the restaurant was an unexpected suprise the food there was excellent
Asa always - very pleasant staff and lovely hotel. In the weekends - they need more staff to help at the busy breakfast time, but he did his best.
The river location was excellent We were aksed to check out at 10 am (1 hour earlier than normal) as a "football team were checking in that day". Should that have made our stay shorter ??
Very good standard of food in the brasserie. This was busy with locals using it for dinner. Hotel not busy, given an upgrade in room. Quiet location yet easy access from motorway. Friendly staff and English spoken.
The hotel is in a lovely setting and has a very nice ambiance. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything that your neighbours do in their room or on the hallway.
The location is superb. Rooms are nbot too big - at least ours - but furnished with taste. The noise was a serious problem. Doors and walls are not well insulated and a lot of noise coming from people returning or leaving their rooms. We could almost understand the conversation of the neighbours from our room. Whilst the location and set-up is very pleasant and recommendable, I would hesitate to send anyone because of the noise in the rooms.
Very nice surrounding, quiet, charming hotel. Better place to stay compare to city hotels and it is not far.
Good atmosphere, cultivated lokation and enviroment, breakfast exellent
Old country style building nicely located along the river. Gourmet restaurant is the main force of this hotel. For those traveling without car will have difficulty to get to this hotel by public transport. Taxi from Gent could be quite expensive.
Breakfast buffet was excellent, location ideal for city visit with kids. Very courteous staff. Hotel restaurant was also very accommodating to our little ones at dinnertime. Our bed was comprised of two singles put together. Oddly, the beds had wheels and there was no way to attach them together or stop the wheels from rolling. Consequently, with a small child between us, it was difficult to keep him from slipping between the two without keeping on one mattress or the other, largely defeating the purpose of the "larger" bed!
Location excellent, beds good, smart lobby. This place was dissapointing, huge spacious wide corridors led to average sized rooms, why? Rooms were designed in rather cold unwelcoming style, showers poor, really bad and really expensive cocktails, overpriced breakfast. My advice? Go stay at the Marriot, its cheaper and much nicer overall!
Staff were attentive, friendly and professional.
The rooms are quiet and spacious The Reception staff where always dour, never cheerfull and no houmour
Comfort of room very good
Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke flawless English, without exception. Hotel decor in corridors was a bit gloomy - all grey walls.
hotel is excellent located to visit Gent. -shower needs badly a thermostatic regulated valve. -touristic info on Gent available at the hotel is poor
mooi hotel, goede locatie midden in het centrum!! Mooie schone kamers en vriendelijk personeel.
as good as always has beengood location, good rooms, good staff
large rooms big soft bed easy to find 5minutes on tram 1 from railway station
Spacious and comfortable rooms, pleasanr staff who gave map and information about seeing Ghent. Close to Railway Station which made travelling to other places in Belgium convenient.
late check out on Sunday. very clean. close to train station. a little far from the city center.
Comfortable room and friendly service Restaurant was closed
Nh hotels typically have a certain style which I prefer over other hotels which have often the "american" touch or following the 'french/accor" formula. So does the one in Gent.
Excellent Design on rooms and breakfast area
Staff were helpful, accommodation and food were of a good standard, close enough to city center to walk to easily, without noise of being right in the centre
The room was not very clean. Under the bed was dust balls and it was obvious that it was not vacumed in about 4 weeks. The 3 level really did not smell very well. The front office staff was very friendly and helpfull. But I think the cleaning staff is very lazy.
The location of the hotel is in the city center. The size of the superior room is quiet big. There is no parking inform of the hotel, you need to walk to next street were hotel uses its parking space. The bars dose not offer any snacks or dishes at the evening, so no food. The bathroom facilities can be better for 4 star hotel.
Hotel convenient for the station and on tram route into city centre. Pleasant staff, excellent room and great breakfast. We could find no fault with this hotel
mini bar was not well equipped, area was terrible, in the suite are not even 2 chairs
Location, Helpfull staff No Air-Con
Hospitality of the owners -
The beautiful medieval architechture of Ghent & some good places to eat in the city too. The number of trains passing by the front of the hotel
the bed, the bathroom was extremely clean perhaps their knowledge of English. They asked us to pay 1 euro to use the internet. The money was not the issue, it just was a little strange
It is very close to Gent Sint Pieters train station and bathroom is ok, I guess. You get this key, and it's a regular key, and it opens both front door of the hotel and your room, which I don't think amounts to great security. I stayed there for 2 nights and I couldn't really sleep in the morning, on the first day due to constant staff door-smashing after 9 on my floor while cleaning. The second day they were actually testing the fire alarms in the whole hotel from 8 to 10 am, I kinda freaked out because I went to bed at 5 and wanted to sleep a bit before I left. No such luck. I think it's overly pricey in terms of not properly providing for basic logging, but it is probably the cheapest place in Gent, so it's a no brainer... As it is far away from the center, and the trams stop at 11, night cab will cost you extra 10e.
It was convenient to the train station and the tram to the main part of the city, but the directions we got from the hotel staff were not accurate. The front desk was behind bullet-proof glass, which was very impersonal (and unnecessary, I hope). The staff was not friendly or welcoming. The breakfast did not have the selections we found in other hotels.
The warm, friendly reception at the hotel was very much appreciated. Information was dispensed generously. The room (# 15) can be a reference on its own and enabled comfortable relaxation. Quietness suffered a little bit from the proximity of the railways, but this was not a fundamental issue.
Closeness to train station
The only positive aspect about this hotel is its location very close to the main train station in Ghent. The hotel is overpriced and the big room was too dark (one small window, poor lighting) and right opposite the train track with ensuing noise level.
for non car drivers the hotel is adjacent to the main railway station and only 100 metres from a tram stop for journeys into the city centre. The room was small but the bed was comfortable. The shower was not fixed and therefore you needed to hold it to rinse yourself
Enthusiastic helpful owner. Lovely old house with great charm. a wonderful evening meal. Plumbing was eccentric.
The hosts were marvellous. In an emergency they were very helpful and kind.
The staff was wonderful! They really belong in the hospitality business. The owners have many plans for future improvements so facilities may change over time, but I doubt their outlook will. The hotel has substantial grounds that are beautiful and peaceful. This is a 25 minute tram ride from the old city center and you will want the first of two Evergem stops on the tram. The stairs are narrow and steep. They are not unsafe but if you have difficulty with stairs be aware.
Beautiful old property in lovely grounds. Very comfortable room. We were made very welcome by Yann & his wife. Delicious meal.
no handrail, cold water tap stuck
The hotel booking specified that an extra bed for a child would be provided free of charge. In the actual event the hotel charge an additional 25 Euros for an extra bed.
The large garden, the calmness and the friendliness of the owner and his wife. The staircase to the first floor is beautiful but doesn't have a handrail or cord on the open side. You have to be careful coming down, choosing the wallside.
we had a lovely time, the owners were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were beautiful and the food was excellent.
The hotel is in a beautiful setting. The owner has decorated the spaces with an eye for elegant detail. The meals were carefully planned and served. The weather was rainy and dreary for our stay. No fault of the hotel!
It is really convenient to the staion, but not so much to the old town. But it's easy to get a tram there. Very friendly, nice bar and restaurant downstairs
Maybe is just me but our room looked like a 3 star.Very clean, big bathroom. You might hear the trains, you might not.I didnt.Breakfast was good, didn't lack variety, the staff was great.I would go there again. It is not close to the center, but a 20 minutes walk in this nice town is nothing but a good thing.
It was close to the station. We were able to check in earlier than the check-in time and could also leave our luggage after we had checked out, so we could see the city before we went with the train. The owners were very friendly. The tram did make a lot of noice from 5-6 in the morning and at the time we visited there was also some noisy construction work going on on the station square outside the window.
Availability, kindness and sense for service shown by the team, including provision of extra phone contact in case of very late arrival. There was a light inconvenience because of general smoke smell in the buidling, but considering my priorities in this trip, this was a minor item.
Excellent location near the station.
Location and friendly staff. Room at back of hotel with lots of mosquitoes coming in all night
Friendliness of staff, good breakfast.
clean and comfortable room and nice restaurant needs an elevator for luggeges.
Staff were very friendly, location was perfect for us, and although close to the railway station, it was very quiet.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel is well situated for public transport for gent and beyond. Comprehensive buffet breakfast.
It is a lovely hotel. Perfect for visiting Ghent. Our room was cheerful and pleasant, the view spectacular, the staff friendly and helpful Lovely breakfast in a charming breakfast room. Quiet. We were delighted. Thanks. No complaints at all (except is there a way to avoid rain in November?). Our thanks. We would recommend this hotel and hope to stay again (with better weather).
Location. Quiet. Heating is low in the bedrooms. Very old furniture. Some cracks on the walls
Staff were really nice and frinedly and helpful, and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. Might have gone for an en-suite room.
The city centre close to the hotel. The breakfast was not very rich.
I dealt with the Receptionist and she arranged the keys to be kept in a key safe allowing me a late check in. She gave directions where to park and the route from the car park to the Hotel. Breakfast was good and buffet was constantly being added to as it was used. The staff were pleasant and polite and the general cleanliness was of a high standard. The rooms could do with a makeover and the modernisation of the whole hotel will help. In room facilities like coffee and tea would be a great advantage especially for the late arrivals and having a snack/drinks vending machine on site will be a great success and profitable as well. The Key safe was difficut to operate as the key for the room that I had were a little too large for the Key safe.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The location simply could not be better - right by St Bavo's Cathedral and the Belfry, and just a short walk to the nearest canal and restaurants. Breakfast was better than I've had in hotels with three or four stars, with really strong coffee. The reception area is quirky and appealing with a selection of books in a selection of languages, two sofas on which to sit and read them, and a life-size puppet of an old lady sitting reading (see what I mean when I said quirky). We thought the hotel was excellent value for money. Some people might find the room a bit small (the bed was lovely and large, which made the room look a bit small, in my view). The decor was perhaps a bit old. However, these are really minor "complaints"; the friendliness of the staff, the comfort of the beds, the excellent breakfast and ideal location far, far outweigh these.
The kindness of the staff and the view from my room.
Breakfast The room was very poorly decorated and furnished and was next to the hotel.
The breakfast was very good. The location was awesome. You are in the heart of the historical center.
Good service by staff rather low key hotel for the price
Ideal location, good food, accomodation satisfactory
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is easily found and is accessible at all hours. Very convenient. Food is good quality and plentiful.
unheated room when we arrived with plenty of moisture
very friendly and helpful staff, good food I was given a smoking room, even if I asked for a no-smoking one. What a smell!
It was clean and comfortable. I was offered a smoking option when I booked, in a non-smoking hotel. This is ridiculous, and a miss-selling of the hotel.
Parking No late arrival possible
Very helpfull and friendly staff, particularly Karen she spoke very good english and the service was excellent.
Convenient room on ground floor with plenty of parking. Friendly staff. Full choice at breakfast and good food. Maybe fuller instructions on how many TV channels are available. I found BBC1 on the second day by chance as we originally saw a blank channel after about six and assumed there were no more. TV is not a major requiremement with us so this is just a suggestion.
Very convenient, on the way, close to City. Value for Money
Good hotel in excellent location. Ghent is gorgeous and will be even better when it's finished. Easy stroll to all the main tourist sights and brilliant bars.
the location was perfect the atmosphere in the hotel was not so cosy
Really helpful and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Will definatly be staying at this hotel again. Quite difficult to find hotel parking due to one way systems and pedestrian streets but hotel staff were brilliant with directions.
The location was excellent, it was in the old part of the town & was in a beautiful location with the Christmas market just at the side of it. the tourist infomation is 100m (away) and the main tram stop is 200m (approx) away. the breakfast was first class with a selection of a continental or more fimiliar english style breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausages) this hotel is in a perfect location for seeing all the attractions of the city.it was clean and comfortable. they also offer free use of a sauna and steamroom.
the bed was really big and room too.
Good location and comfortable. Difficult to find due to road closures, parking under the hotel not easy.
Central location. Bog-standard, somewhat dirty hotel with unhelpful staff. Impossible to get to by car!!! Don't even try... I parked 100m from the hotel but it took me 1/2 hour to get to the parking, by which time the receptionist had let the car park fill up- despite knowing I was on my way.
The location is great. The hotel is right in the center of the city and almost everything you will want to see is within walking distance. The hotel is clean and well kept. It's an international chain and lacks charm.
The hotel is convenient for the centre and is in easy walking distance of the main sites of Ghent Check in time is advertised as being 14.00 however, we arrived at 15.45 and our room was not ready,
Central location The bathroom floor and shower base needed a real scrub with bleach, they were dirty and moldy. The breakfast cost 18 euros each which we didnt want to spend so went to the nearby Pain Quotidien for a delicious fresh and much cheaper breakfast. Parking was also impossible as the streets are blocked with roadworks and pedestrian zones, so our GPS took a long time to help us locate the hotel. I think the hotel owners/website should include a map of how to best navigate the city. Too expensive for an ordinary and basic room.
Location. Very helpful stuff. Good restaurant and breakfest. Nice size of room. Spacious parking area. Bathroom can be mordenized.
Free parking, easy access and clean The No Smoking room had a strong smell of smoke.....
It was very comfortable to have an apartment with the extra room rather than just a hotel room.
We stayed as a party of 8 and everyone of us enjoyed our stay with your help in booking us a taxi to the velodrome which was very much appreciated. nice to have a television with english speaking programmes. Lack of of coffee or tea in the room although all facilities were provided to make same
the staff is very helpful, and the room is very spacious. We also have a complete kitchen when we could make a cup of tea or coffee, which is very relaxing after a day trip. The breakfast is good.
The size of rooms. I didn't realize there was a living room and a bedroom until after we checked in. I was reassured that the complimentary breakfast ended at 10 am by the front desk staff at least twice. Breakfast actually ends at 9 and we missed it by 15 minutes. I was pretty disappointed since we factored the breakfast into our budget. The woman in the restaurant was nice and gave us coffee and croissants, but everything else had already been consumed.
the hotel appartment concept the cleaning
Very friendly staff
The Hotel staff were very nice and the apartment was spacious, comfortable and clean and was conveniently located for the city centre with onsite parking if required.
The room is very clean, easily accessible, the arrangement of the room is very good. No!
Close to the old town Nearly everything
the breakfast, the hospitality, the location are really good. there is no lift.
The very friendly staff, and the quality and quantity of the breakfasts available. The noise from outside in the road was quite disturbing. on a warm night the windows needed to be open, but there was too much traffic noise etc and it was difficult to get to sleep. We had upgraded to the "Blue room" which was very nice with original features, but because it fronts the building it is very noisy and therefore should not have cost the extra 50 euros charged. The staff were extremely helpful and very informative and cannot be faulted! The breakfasts are excellent, the whole hotel is very clean and totally original in its features and only a very short walk from the city centre and all activities. Only the noise from outside spoiled what was otherwise a very plesant stay.
The great monumental atmosphere Traces of moisture on the wall of bathroom
Characterful historic building, good breakfast and clean. On the wall to the right of the bed there were some squashed dead flies. A little run down for the price.
Atmospheric, beautifully restored building with antique furnishings. Very quiet and peaceful. Friendly management and staff. Excellent location for historic part of town, bars and restaurants. Mattress a bit uncomfortable.
Spirit of old ages. It is very unusual for me. Maybe for somebody it would be even too old, but I liked it.
old charm, garden, breakfast drink-making facilities and fridge were a bonus would have liked more milk to have more than one drink each
This hotel is very central and easy to find. It is a bit dated but it seems to have that old rustic charm to it. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was enough to get you by. The internet is actually done throught a card that you purchase. The cheapest option is a card for 2 hours for €5 but you can only use that card once. There is a cafe just down the road that has free wi fi.
helpful owners convenientley situated. lovely house and bedroom , excellent breakfast.will go again
The location in the center of Gent was very nice. The room was small but was kept clean. Breakfast buffet had a nice selection of food. The front rooms are very noisy because of tram amd car traffic.
it was a good location and not far from train station in a taxi and tram close by
5 mins by walk from the central square, nice and clean, tram stop infront of the hotel - the tram goes to the central railway station.
Good breakfast & central location. Noise from the main road (Nederkouter) - I was in an even-numbered room. But on Level 4, it wasn't too bad.
Very good location, only one minute to the Flemish Opera and several cafés and bars nearby. Calm room. A Belgian bank card was not accepted at the reception, only cash or credit card.
Good value, nice bar. Good buffet breakfast.
the location very basic hotel - you get what you pay for so no surprises
TV with 30 channels in different languages No desk lamp and halflight when main light on (best - when I can switch off-halflight-light).
was a very good choice, very close to the centre, Gante it's beautiful¡¡¡ nothing
nothing the hygiene was very poor
The location was excellent. Right in the heart of the City. The room was warm and comfortable and had a nice view of the Cathedral. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a gd size with an excellent shower. B/fast choice was excellent. Luckily we had a small car that fitted into the underground garage with little fuss. It cost E15 for a night but compared with prices outside was reasonable and we could keep the car safe after check-out the following day. B/fast was E14 pp but again reasonable compared with prices outside. A Receptionist had a bit of attitude whan we wanted to pay by cash because the Hotel had already debited our Credit Card. She quoted "we should of the read the small print". I was not amused!
The location near where I was having meetings
The location was excellent and the room was clean. It was very central to the city.
The room was very comfortable and well-furnished. The view from the room overlooking the square was spectacular.
As will all Ibis hotels, they play awful american pop music on their loudpeakers. It is especially annoying at breakfast.
The staff, specifically the front desk staff, was extremely helpful!
The location is excellent. Staff was welcomng and helpful. Housekeeping was good. Doors banging early in the morning could be heard too easily.
Relaxed atmosphere and wide selection at breakfast
Close to station and trams
staff was very helpfull, good selection at breakfast, very clean the rooms and everything i will certainly recomend u and the hotel to other people
Close to trams; well situated; helpful staff; clean
Good location, I was staying on business and needed to be near the town centre. Efficient and friendly staff, check in and check out was very quick This hotel did not match my experiences of other Best Western hotels. Everything was "ok" (wireless internet, on site parking etc), but the hotel looks like it could do with a makeover
good location, great breakfast
Ideally situated for railway station and trams to city centre. Good selection at buffet breakfast. Staff always pleasant and helpful. Nice to have BBC1 AND BBC2 available on TV as opposed to standard BBC World News and/or CNN as English speaking channels!
Excellent value for money, clean and comfortable room, friendly staff, and a very good breakfast. The underground car park should be avoided. It is very cramped, has concrete pillars everywhere, and is entered and exited via a narrow and very steep ramp with awkward kerbs. It took me nearly an hour to park my car (which is a medium-sized hatchback) and, once parked, I certainly didn't want to use it again until we left. Without a doubt, in over 40 years of owning a car, this was the most stressful experience ever! Also, there are extensive tram works at the front of the hotel - making it very difficult to leave by car and even on foot!
It is very easy to access the hotel from the highway. the center is a bit far if you decide to walk, however, there is public transport nearby. The parking in the neighbourhood is free from 7pm till 9am
big, clean room, free wi-fi internet, breakfast shower, noise from roadwork
I must say that householder was very pleasant !!! We had a romantic breakfast, comfortable room, beautifull garden. When I will have a trip to Belgium , exectly I choose this hotel one more.
the owners make you feel very at home very relaxed nothing too much trouble was a little worried that they might not speak english from previos reviews but thomas spoke english perfectly breakfast very well presented really enjoyed our stay and very central for all local sights
