We like the location of the hotel, on both our stays we had sea view rooms and our next stay will also be in a sea view room to make the most of the location. We think that Southend had been improved by the redevelopment of the Hotel. Our first stay was one night and the second two nights, our only complaint is the cost of parking and leaving our car in the car park opposite. The first stay cost us approximately £15.00 and the second £24.00. I completely understand that the car park is not the hotels juresdiction but the discount the hotel gets for its guests is a paltry one.
Good Security with swipe cards. Very clean and well appointed rooms. Hotel very tidy all round and in good location. N/A
Good size room, not too hot The desk clerk on my arrival was slow and unfriendly (All the rest o fteh staff were lovely)
Central situation! Your clerical provisions need improvment! The opening line of this enquiry has opened with 'Dear Ferris' Perhaps a prefix of 'Mr.' would have been wise!! Soft drinks were ridiculously expensive!
Good location, nice room, nice bar, 12pm checkout £20 premium for sea view is a bit high. No hotel car park
the hotel staff, the location and the food were abolutely fantastic.you cannot get any better than dat. well done everything was absolutely perfect for me
We were upgraded to a beautiful sea-view room on the fifth floor. The room was spacious, clean and the air conditioning ensured a comfortable sleep No bad points
Extremely clean room, lovely flat screen on well, very comfy bed. This hotel has a lovely residents bar and is right at the end of the high street. You could not get a better location. Nothing we got to check in v. early, got our room slightly upgraded, staff were lovely, tea & coffee in our room - no negatives.
Clean spacious hotel. Comfy room, nice bathrom and good size bath towels! Love the art work everywhere. Hairdrier a bit hard to use and a bit weak but worked .
Proximity to airport - London Southend. NA
Nice pleasant clean hotel. Very close to Southend airport! No problems with noise. Car park fairly cramped and you might end up a fair walk away from the hotel. Staff were very friendly. The room was fairly small but as I expected. I'd be very upset if I'd paid the full room rate! always look around for a discounted price!
room was warm, clean, quiet. Bathroom excellant, even had a proper hairdryer. Staff helpfeul, efficient and smart. Could have been more tea bags and milk in hospitality tray, but on mentioning at reception were told they would have been happy to deliver more. As it was past one am didn't think it worth it.
The staff was very welcoming. The hotel is very clean and the food was excellent.Very pleased with everything.
Enjoyed every moment we were there.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent food and very good choice. General cleanliness throughout. Our only complaint was that whereas we were booked in for 5 nights,Monday to Saturday - we were very disturbed to have our bill pushed under the door early on Friday morning which informed us that we were expected to check out that day. The young lady on the Reception Desk was extremely helpful and did get it sorted out, but we feel that it was something that should not have occurred.
Staff were extremely helpful and made the stay... None
The position is excellent. It was a short walk from Thorpe Bay station. Every one was very friendly. The sun shone! The hotel is quite shabby in places. Could do with a lift
Great location, right on the seafront, lovely views from the restaurant area out across the bay. Comfortable, modern, clean, friendly, good parking facilities. Breakfast was first class. Bathroom was very cold even with the towel radiator on. I stayed in one of the junior suites on the top floor, with no central heating. Heating was via the air conditioning unit, central heating would have been much preferable.
Lovely atmosphere in restaurant & terrace Room very hot. No hot water for shower/wash. Light over mirror in bathroom flashing on & off all night.
pleasent and friendly staff good food
It is a very well run hotel with friendly helpfull staff and when I did have a slight problem in the early hours it was resolved without any fuss. keep up the good work.
Lovely hotel and great food My room was a shoebox, but I guess you get what you pay for. Also, I was told at reception that breakfast was not served until 8.30 on weekends. I needed to leave for my work by 8.30. I discovered that breakfast started at 8.00 when I went a few minute early to see if I could grab something. I trust this will be corrected as I passed the info onto the hotel.
The hotel was very warm and welcoming on a particularly bleak and bitterly cold day. Only stayed one night after attending a function at the hotel, but it was a very pleasant visit. Delicious breakfast before departing.
Pleasant surroundings and courteous staff have recommended to colleagues
The restaurant service was relaxed and unhurried and food was very good with generous servings huge bathroom small bath, wasted space
The room was comfortable and spacious. The hotel was pleasant to stay in. The dining and bar staff obviously had some personal differences which unfortunatley was aired infront of guests.
Nice room with good view over the countryside. Staff very friendly and helpful Room over the wedding venue so music loud when we arrived however finished promptly at 12 midnight and did not affect our stay
Friendly, helpful staff, good breakfast. The plumbing in the bath/shower in room 105 needs attention.
Clean, pleasant atmosphere, good food, and value for money Not a big issue but the walk to and from the car park when its raining would not be nice.
Very good facilities overall Drinks prices are a lttle on the high side
A very nice welcoming hotel, friendly bed comfortable & a quiet room evening meal in restaurant was lovely None! Wish there were more hotel like this!
At 1:45 am the radiator in the room woke us up making such a loud drilling noise for about 20 minutes. The morning breakfast was not very nice the beacon and sausages were over cooked and bland and we had to serch for someone to top our coffee up
The hotel staff. We were impressed by the check-in staff on reception, the evening duty manager & service staff at breakfast. All were welcoming, helpful, charming and very well trained. Proximity to the event we were attending at Layer Marney Tower.
Have stayed several times, it is a suitable location for my requirements Could do with a fridge in the room
Sky sports in the room Well kept room Well kept hotel Nice surroundings They could have been a bar menu
Food in resturant Busy with corporate event all weekend
The facility and the faculties were awesome . Nothing
Excellent facilities, well laid out room Had to ask for a remote for TV, but was supplied very promptly
very relaxing and enjoyable not enough time to do a lot more in the time we spemt there
Quick service Bathroom decor is a little dated and te location isnt highlighted too well in the surrounding area
very polite and coutious staff. Room cleanliness bar food cold be improved.
Relaxing, good facilities and standard of hotel.
slept as i was working localy
The historic significance and the hotel's representation of all that is good and traditional about English "superior guest-house" hospitality. I seriously cannot think of any.
friendly staff. was made welcome. nothing
The room was a sea view room and very large, bedroom and bathroom very clean, very very close to southend pier and amusements and to the town centre itself bed was hard but that is a personal prefernce and not one that should be held accountable towards the hotel, the noise from the floorboards from the room above was rather loud both in the night and in the morning so not one for the light sleeper
Nothing The central heating didn't work. I was welcomed by a confused say 15 year old boy. there was a birthday party of the 13 year old daughter in the residents lounge. I didn;t get the seaview room I boooked. they didn;t eeven have my on line booking. In fact there was not on redeeming facot.
I did not like the size of the room it was far to small is my knees were touching the shower when sat on the loo. The drains needed sorted as this caused my room to smell and it was far to cold.
The room was comfy, spacious and lovely decor, view of sea was lovely to wake up to Nothing at all
friendly helpful, clean and tidy value for money
Polite staff and good breakfast.
it was nice & quiet for the whole time we were there
Very atmospheric with genuine Tudor interior features
Had a superb six course dinner with the menu chosen by the chef along with 6 matching wines. Lovely evening. It did not have a swimming pool.
Evening staff very attentive to needs and accomodating. Good room layout. We stayed as part of a group and booked seperately. Room prices did vary by £40 and the cheaper booking included breakfast. I asked if breakfast could be included in our booking as a 'good will' gesture as we were paying additional £40, receptionist not at all sympathetic, quite patronising and would not make any consession.
Ambience On the expensive side
Everything was quite pleasant.
old styling of hotel and bathrooms. the rudeness of the staff, over priced, mice in our room, not pleased with how we were treated when we had house keeping walk in on the morning and tell us that they were told that the room was meant to be enmpty!
Restaurant was brilliant
Rooms a little dated
the large queen bed i booked a excutive room .with smoking preference,i got a jnr room and no smoking .menu could have had more choice on it for the money i paid .
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The friendly and helpful staff
Comfortable room and substantial breakfast Bedroom furniture a little dated
The hotel is in a quiet location, close to the beach with parking, staff were polite and the room was clean and comfortable I expected a greater variety of food but what was available was good
The nice proprietors
The staff attitudes towards visitor Yes our pravcy was invaded twice by the domestic and this really upset me.
The hotel was clean, warm and the staff friendly. The breakfast was outstanding. The location was ideal and we really enjoyed our stay 100% No not at all
Staff helpful and welcoming Parking arrangements a disappointment, low shower pressure, slightly shabby decor, noise of heating system from early hours. This would be ok as a 2 star but is a poor 4 star and I cant see how this is comparable to other 3 star hotels in the area.
Awesome, fantastic, welcoming staff. This extended through from reception to managers who were hard working and extremely helpful. I may well need to stay in Southend again, and would return to this hotel without hesitation. My wife booked this hotel based on feedback from previous guests, and I was not disappointed. It's probably a bit pricey - but in view of the value, I would be prepared to ignore that in the future. You always get what you pay for, and this place is seriously good.
The breakfast was really good (a lot of choise), and staff was nice and friendly and the location is very good. was noisy. In front of the hotel were few tables and chairs. Other guests were noisy, and we couldnt sleep.
Warm welcome, friendly atmosphere made me feel very at ease.
Very friendly owners
Lovely styled room, nice suprise. loved the sofa. loads of tea, sugar and milk always an asset Heating didnt work. toilet was heavily stained and smelt, holes in the sheets blinds didnt close at the bottom, had to stand on sofa to draw the curtain. fire alarm sounds 'fire in zone 1. there wasnt any members of staff on site so I dealt with it, muting the alarm and calling a number. My guess is a smoker but if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble
The room was clean and well stocked with tea and coffee, the staff were friendly.
Good clean family run hotel. Pleasant staff, good facilities and close to attractions. a great bar/bistro with a seaside outlook was situated on the beach a few yards away. None
Very friendly owner and freshly decorated.
Location. Breakfast. Owners. Almost booked a nearby place at half the price, but was swung by the prospect of an 'Executive Room'. The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed
Large, comfy room with good facilities and a nice pool and fitness area.
It was convenient for our weekend We had to change rooms as the shower didn't work in the first room; and breakfast was very expensive for what it was!!!
Bed Comfort , Quiet Breakfast started late, No snacks available on evening arrival other than minibar - bring back the coffee bar!
Excellent room, very clean. Mini bar massively overpriced, staff a little clueless at reception
It's a really relaxing hotel, just like home None
Very clean and a nice comfotable double bed Nothing
Location Lack of cleanliness, chaotic management and lack of staff control.
It was an ideal location for the purposes of our stay. The bathroom light turned itself off at random intervals which was a shock when you were in the midde of a shower to be left in the dark. Also considering it was November the bed linen wasn't particularly very thick or plentiful.
Comfortable room Hotel building has no charm at all and is very worn and frayed at the edges.
Very relaxing good value for money Bathroom needs a revamp
They are clearly renovating the hotel - lovely restaurant, wonderful bar area The top sheet on the bed had rips and tears in it and it proved difficult to sleep in the morning as the walls are so thin you can hear the other guests opening and shutting doors whilst making their way around the hotel
Very good food at the restaurant! Comfortable beds and clean toilet.
Premium rooms large comfortable bed. Bathroom had bath and seperate shower, clean and well presented. Room service good, full menu available.
Power shower was fab!! Nice and quiet as well so got a good nights sleep.
Good breakfast included
Delightful dining room and good breakfast. Only the access. The junction at the end of the road is a nightmare, even though I have done it several times in the past.
Well heated.Good breakfast. Hum of heating/kitchen ventilation, or similar, constant all night. Shower was just a trickle.
Close to station and concierge on duty all night Decor in need of modernisation
convenience to town centre. room was small and lacked proper ventilation
Our room had all the facilities we could possibly require for our stay. It was warm, the shower was great and the bed comfortable. We even had biscuits with our courtesy tea/coffee tray. Nothing springs to mind although the winding walk to our room and no lift could, I imagine, present a problem for less mobile guests. However, the staff were so pleasant and I therefore imagine they would help in such cases.
the road next to our room was noisy .
The hotel was in a lovely location. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The cooked breakfast the following morning was a welcome surprise as we thought we were only having continental! I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Ambience Shower not powerful enough
Very nice room, large double bed and the food the fitness centre was very small only three pieces of equipment to use.
Staff very helpful. Some of the moans in the reviews have been rectified. Very good value for money. The widest bed I have ever slept in, in an hotel. Being alongside a main road, the room suffered from from the passing traffic.
We had a executive room, The bed was very comfortable No air con in bedroom night temp was about 26 degrees, Extractor fan in bathroom not working, No tea/coffee facilities in room these were in the corridor so if you wanted a drink you had to get dressed to get it. Restaurant not open on saturday night,
The bedding was in two parts and so soft....i was travelling with my female (just friend) sharing the costs so the two part bedding was superb! Spider in the bath, the paint work by the headboard could be touched up....the window latches were a bit loose.
Efficiency, and free wireless connection No
The room - very nicely styled, lovely sized & comfortable bed The wait in the restaurant - very slow to serve food (waited 20minutes for apple pie!) and there was only five other diners, so being too busy was not an excuse
The peace, the surprise cooked breakfast and it being just across the road to the beer festival.. No soft door closers
The fact that we were given complimentary breakfast, a bottle of wine sent to our room and charged half price because the booking had been messed up. Although I had requested a non smoking room, they said that because my confirmation slip only said 'non smoking preference', it wasn't guaranteed. I had requested a standard room, thinking it was a double, and they said it was a twin. I was also told that because others had paid deposits rather than just given payment details, they were given priority, even though I booked the room through this website before the majority of guests. As I was in tears at reception, because I was made to feel as if I had done something wrong, another receptionist took pity on me and tried to help with the goodwill gesture. The Duty Managers said that I had to put up with a smoking twin as that was all that was left. Not at all impressed with website or hotel
Common areas were ok, room was large and bright Decor needed refreshing
Friendliness of staff in the bar Interior (carpets, panels etc.) is worn and need replacement, fresh paint etc.
Good for Business a little bit pricey
it was close to some nice resturants and clubs. the room was spotless but got very hot with heating on all night. staff very friendly and helpfull drinks at bar very expensive in hotel so went to harvester for driks which was alot cheaper
Convenietly located for what we had to do. Room was quiet despite a wedding party taking place
Quick and easy book in /out
very comfortable room, clean, all facilities nothing, was very happy with room and service provided
location and comfort Could do with a refresh in decor.
room was nice. front desk staff very helpful. Good choice at breakfast cold lobby area and entrance, and breakfast room was rather cold but it was a very cold and windy day
The staff were excellent. The man on reception I would single out when we booked in. He went far beyond what would expect and is a credit. Nothing. It was a good stay.
Everything, was lovely, just as we expected. The shower gel dispenser didn't work in our room, but always has in the other Premier Inn's we've stayed at so it isn't too much of a problem.
Nice large clean room Only warm bath water, small toilet tissue difficult to use, beds hard and uncumfortable
Friendly staff, nice clean place, staff keen to put things right Traffic noise, slow dinner service, lukewarm breakfast buffet items, eggs very overcooked, bath overflow pipe went onto floor rather than down drain. no kettle in room just the base.
Pleasant dining room, staff very helpful, food very good, room excellent, even though we did request a first floor room.access not a problem despite disibility. None.
Auto check in was not explained and something we weren't used to and after spending some time being assisted by a staff member, he then changed our room allocation for a higher floor, which he did manually and took ages to action - would have been quicker if he'd done it manually in the first place or asked us where we'd like to have a room if there were so many available. Poor lighting, insufficient area and poor lighting for hair drying - kettle etc in the way, horrible soap, bedside table area too small, window opening not wide enough, disturbed by doors slamming to other rooms in the night and early morning, bed too firm, room rather small - what size was Lenny Henry staying in?
Location to the station The car park was a bit of a state
staff were very friendly and accomodating would come back
New, nice, comfortable, clean, good staff. English hotels are always very bad, but this was extra good.
Hotel is maintained to a high standard, staff very friendly rooms are small
The staff were pleasant and the breakfast good. The room was good too and the bed comfortable. We were located opposite the hotel in the annexe across a small alley leading to the car park, which we didn't know about beforehand. Very open, but on a rainy windy night, not pleasant getting to the other side. No faults otherwise except for lack of hairdrier in room maybe?
Very nice hotel. 1 mile from the pier so encouraged walking. Large carpark at the back which was great.
Peace and quite
The room was smart and clean. The bathroom was particulary new and fresh. No TV remote control in the room. Feint smell of cigarette smoke. Breakfast ok but serve yourself.
It's location was ideal for my purposes My wife is not good on stairs
The view from the suite window. Cook, turned up for breakfast after we did when we were there waiting at 8am. The waitress was also distraught waiting for him to turn up as she could not get into the hotel. We wanted an early start for a 6 hour drive to Cornwall but had to wait for breakfast as we had already decided to have breakfast before we left, but had to wait for a young cook (not chef) to turn up for work because he was probably pissed from the night before and didn't care about any of the guests. Not very professional and I would certainly dismiss him on this occasion. Gives young people who really want to work a bad name. He doesn't deserve a job.
We had a most comfortable stay and enjoyed dinner on the night we arrived. The staff were excellent and helpful. We had trouble finding the hotel mainly because of the road works in town and it was dark when we arrived but it would have hleped had the hotel's name been more prominently displayed. Parking was not a problem. There was nothing we did not like. As stated, we had a very comfortable stay.
The room was fantastic, it was a suite. the views were beautiful in the daylight and at night. The food was really good, and reasonably priced as was the bar. I liked the separate apartments block with their own entrance. The breakfast was very good and fresh.
Staff, service, sleep quality, excellent en-suite, cleanliness, location. Wifi cost too high but free wifi availabile in Halfway House pub just outside.
Ver near to location required, friendly helpful staff. Was a bit surprised to be asked for id when I requested to pay by cash.
it was very clean and the staff were helpful. Good location too.
Friendly and chatty staff who were always approachable. Extremely comfy beds.
Very convenient for my business visit, Parking available, decent accomodation, security precautions.in place Breakfast next door a disappointment. Not value for money, Too much like a supermarket style
Staff were very friendly Breakfast was extremely poor and in my view unacceptable after having paid over £90 for two of us
I liked the way the hotel was on the sea front and not to far away from the main southend. eg pier, town and amusements I did'nt like the shower. It was'nt very powerfull and the water flow was rubbish.
Very comfortable beds None
very helpfuk staff on reception and the night porter was excellent The total breakfast was a farce , the service was appaling , slow service and a didnt give a dm attitude .The buffet was poorly replenished and there were not any beakers for coffee only cups , no saucers
we found the accomodation clean and fairly comfortable, the room sizes were generous and the breakfast was excellent value for money I found the checking in process very slow
