It was very good value for money for us and 2 children, childrens meals were inexpensive and breakfast for them free. It also felt family orientated so we didn't mind them going between the room and the pub on their own. They also thought the shopping centre was great and amused themselves in there for half an hour or so in the morning whilst we got ourselves together. The children would have liked a pool table in the pub.
The location was particularly convenient as we were flying from Newquay the next day. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the receptionist when we arrived. Nothing
Staff were all pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.Restaurent staff were great, food breakfast and dinner were excellent. Too near the A30, traffic noise incessant but did not disturb our sleep. Ear plugs are wonderful things.
Excellent facilities, a cut above the average 'motorway' accommodation. A1 attention to detail in the very comfortable and well thought out rooms. Slightly on the hot side and floor in our room and that above was very creaky - to the point that when those upstairs (or indeed my own husband) got up to use the bathroom, I was woken.
Location Not enough lights, breakfast was very poor
indoor pool and jacuzzi
Views, breakfast and plenty of cofortable seating make this a lovely hotel at good price. All rooms kept warm, a bonus in November, Well within reach of Eden project and Lost Gardens.
Location was ideal and room was pleasant Not much buffet choice for breakfast
the hotel was very comfotable the staff frendly and wellcoming nothing was to much trouble for them ,the room was lovely and clean, cleaning staff frendly and helpful food brillient really enjoyed are stay and will be staying there again thank you all. nothing
Good service, good staff, very nice surroundings. No mini bar in hotel room, however the staff had an exelent and quick room service
comfortable room [ upgraded to a double], spacious bathroom, friendly staff and a smoking room - what a treat !! Would use this hotel again.
Comfort, and staff were very good, food always hot and presented nicely, could not fault it in anyway
very helpful staff, good food, nice indoor pool.
Swimming pool, friendly staff The hotel is very tired and needs money spending on it, a lick of paint for a start. The roof terrace was terrible although it could be a feature withy some investment
informality and natural unaffected attitude of staff. nothing constructive
Excellent bathrooms. Great olde world charm. Fantastic views. Front doors could be automatic - hard with luggage.
It was good value for money, friendly staff, clean hotel room, very accommodating, easy access for places to visit.
The friendliness of staff. Large rooms. The hotel itself and position. My room smelt a little of damp.
Homely welcoming warm(very cold outside) excellent food loved christmas decorations although nov but realise Padstow christmas fest soon! Old fashioned charm and character. It would have been good to have single occupancy discount for double rooms!LUXURY? Duvets instead of blankets.
Location of Hotel Parking could be a problem if the hotel was full.
Service and friendliness of staff Shabby and in need of a make over. Common areas not cleanen
Location and the breakfast was amazing which came with a stunning view over the harbour and the room was spacious. The rooms & furniture is very old, beds where very lumpy and draft coming in from window, which the heater was next to, so the room stayed cold.
Friendly staff Hotel very dated and shabby.Far to expensive.
New rooms, just refurbished spotless.
The Great Western is in the right in the centre of 'Clubbing' Newquay, but is a 10 minute walk away from the town centre so perfect for if you are a fan of Berties and Barracudas! It was gopod value for money and the beds are very comfortable! It has recently been refurbished, so seems very grand when you enter at reception. It needs to have more parking. That was ridiculous how there was only about 10 parking spots! There is no places to park in the centre of Newquay unless you pay in the 'pay and display' car-parks, which as you can guess, are rather pricey in the centre of newquay!
Staff very helpful and cheerful Decor a bit tired; restaurant area needs to be split up
The hotel has its own identity and does not have the typical "premier inn" "travelodge" feel of many hotels in this price range. Some might find the rooms a bit dated but we prefer the cosy individual style more appealing. It's very clean and the food in the bar is excellent. Have stayed before and will do so again. Although we were happy with our un-refurbished room, I agree with those reviewers that say that the photos on the site are misleading and can see why people expecting rooms such as those shown would be disappointed.
the location of the hotel is good. the staff are friendly loads of space and the food is good. service is good and quite quick
The Great Western in Newquay had lots of indoor and outdoor seating available with stunning views and centrally located Having booked on line with no reference to the availability of some parking spaces - we arrived with our car for a week only to be told only telephone reservations get a chance to book a space. Why couldn't the website ask you to ring to book a space. We spent the week feeding parking metersin the evening and again by 9am. Not very restful !!!
It is very clean and does not have smell of damp :) Included is the shower gel that helps with dry skin in this dry weather.
Staff very friendlt and pleasant. Street noise - being next to night club, can't be helped.
Convience to beach and shops When we first checked into the hotel we were put in a room right above where the trash bids were locared and the smell was awful. The new room we were moved into the shower did not work properly, no water pressure.
The room was spacious, with hot café and tea provided, nice in the cold winter! well located close to the beach and to all the facilities. Restaurant and bar services with a good menu. The room was cold, the heating was switch-off when we arrived in the room (and outside was snowing!). Really really noising during all night, we woke up several time due to the other guest running and chatting in the corridor (didn't understand why the reception don't do something in this case see that they are open 24h)
Excellent location, good value for money for a budget holiday!! Nice room and great views
Hotel was fab, thought it was great that they allowed dogs as we have a toy poodle and he goes most places with us. Food in restaurant excellent.staff very friendly .
Great facilities every thing we required would reccomend to all Continuty of staff at the spa regarding communication
There was nothing to fault about The Cornwall. From the moment we arrived we were treated so well. Ross, the porter, gave us a great tour of the hotel and the facilities. We were made to feel welcome and cared for throughout our stay
Professional and helpful staff, especially in restaurant
Very comfortable hotel, completely re-built renovated to high standards, good chef, very friendly attentive staff. Very nice SPA and Fitness. Comfortable spacious rooms with great beds. Tastefully decorated.Quiet landscaped surroundings. Clean. Computer voice in elevator warning for closing and opening of doors is over the top. The voice sounds harsh and unfriendly and is way too loud. Does not belong in a Spa hotel, much rather in the elevator of an airport parking garage. I would change that to a softer calmer version or get rid of it alltogether. Calls for the emotion of people running around in HiVi jackets.
friendly helpful staff; beautiful room with lovely view of countryside, excellent breakfast we had to wait to be seated for breakfast as they could not accomodate for the numbers of guests even though it was not high season.
outstanding staff and excellent food combined with fantastic spa facilities, keep exclusive not mainstream
Premises, room, facilities, food, receptionist was polite and helpful. Poor attention to detail at breakfast. Not offered menu, no-one took our order - had to go and find staff. No butter or teaspoons on table. Actually, I filled in the questionairre in the room.
Room facilities Dinner was booked up at breakfast time
The staff were particularly attentive. The Acorn bistro served excellent food at reasonable prices. We really liked the spa pool and other facilities, but the hotel was quiet ahead of the Easter rush. We stayed in a two bedroom woodland home which was really good for two of us, would have been fine for four, but might be a bit tight for six people. Well located for the Eden project and getting to places in mid Cornwall. The grounds are still in the process of being landscaped, so we could not use them, but we are sure from the work completed so far they will be to a high standard.
Excellent food, staff were always very helpful, view of the sea, every where very clean Spa and swimming pool - not very impressed with, needs updating.
Staff were very considerate and kind. Views were amazing from majority of the hotels windows. Room was clean and comfortable. Food to order at breakfast was very good and buffet selection was varied. The Terrace provided a good choice of meals with a lovely view of the beach. Dinner menu was a little limited. Room and the food and drink on offer were a little pricey. Didnt receive hotel information and room service menu till last day of stay which was unfortunate as we felt we missed out a little on what the hotel had to offer.
The relaxed atmosphere, great breakfasts and the attentiveness of the catering and reception staff.
The staff were helpful and courteous, the food was fantastic and the hotel itself was very welcoming and luxurious.
Everything about this hotel was excellent from the very first welcom, the food, staff and the location. Couldn't fault it.
Welcoming and efficient Food was fabulous N / A
comfortable, clean and well fitted out rooms.friendly and helpfull staff parking very limited although car park being extended at present
The location was excellent for visiting other areas of Cornwall, providing city shopping, culture and coastal access. The hotel provided very modern, excellent decor & comfortable fbed & furniture. We were very impressed with the overall design. Eating facilities within the hotel complex provided an excellent choice at reasonable prices - we ate in the restaurant both evenings of our stay. The shower/bathroom was nicely designed but we did have a problem when we used the rubber safety mat in the shower. The fitting of the mat for the shower tray was the correct size but it did cover the outlet & if the shower was used on full power water flooded out of the shower tray. A smaller rubber mat would solve this problem.
Awesome views. Luxurious hotel with amazing history and fabulous location. Nice compromise between modern requirements and traditional features. Very well kept decor. Price is good. Food is good. Breakfast lovely - with amazing views too. They are working on the place regularly to improve it, but you don't really notice it happening. Never tried the pools, but they look very inviting. Rooms are always incredibly hot even with heating off and not all rooms have sufficient windows that open or aircon. Showers vary in power. Room descriptions are generic and don't always describe the room accurately.
the beautiful sea views and decore and design of a beautiful hotel. parking is awlful and our car was hit in car park, think we werent the only ones! no room to move and too small spaces.noone stopped and hit and run!!!!
Glad we up graded room, hotel heated very well during this time of year. to use the sauna facilities you had to purchase a card in order to use the it......not on for this type of hotel very petty.
Elegant, well appointed hotel exuding charm and comfort. Spacious dining and common areas with very appealing decor. Large, very comfortable room with walk-in closet and very comfortable bed. Excellent food. Outstanding location on a hill over-looking the sea with beautiful views. Parking space was limited. Sea view room over-looked the roof of the dining room below.
Courteous, polite staff. Room mix up on arrival which was sorted out and we were given an upgrade with no fuss and all went smoothly. Would definitely stay again.
Location, views, parking and knowledge of some members of staff re the history of the hotel, also staff serving breakfast on the Sunday very polite and efficent. View out to sea good but on looking down lots of building material, ladders and scaffolding poles on first floor roof. Would have liked information re swimming pool on arrival, but this did seem to be restricted due to building work.
Room standard was much higher than expected Heating was turned up too high and there was no way to control it in the room. Also just having a standard double bed was disappointing - in a 'deluxe' room I was expecting a King.
Great facilities and food and hotel spacious. Staff were friendly and helpful.
the view poor breakfast for level of hotel - middle of summer and no fresh fruit
Everything was excellent
Friendly atmosphere, swimming in the evening in the outdoor pool Unfortunately my room 201, was directly above the area on the terrace outside that had been designated for smokers, so in the evening smoke would drift up into my room. Smokers were also quite noisy - I think the situation could be improved if there was a polite notice asking smokers to be aware that people are sleeping in the rooms above!
The friendly atmosphere and the helpful but not over-intrusive staff. The food was excellent.
Warm atmosphere Bed was too short for 6ft person.
The golf and location Having to formally dress for dinner plus rooms unavailable for use because not formally dressed in the evening
Old world service and standards combined with modern facilities - a winning formula as good as it gets
The facilities The fact that we were given a room directly over a noisey evening entertainment hall where they were singing karaoke very badly long after we had gone to bed.
The rooms were of good size and the views over the river/harbour were spectacular. It was also in avery quiet location.
Excellent Food and service staff, wonderful views. Parking, Only that we were not able to have a space, but unloading and loading was fine.
good attention to detail, nice staff, good food. Very good value.
the view noise from rooms above and parking problems
the sea view the price
Dinner menu expensive and not to our taste
did not appreciate the request to leave a gratuity when paying final bill as a result left nothing
good location, friendly and helpful staff, excellant room
Good food, comfortable bedroom and comfortable lounge Lack of car parking spaces and the Dartmoor Bitter running out on Sunday evening.
Excellent chef. Good all round restaurant service Reception staff were not all helpful. We were disturbed by unecessary calls from reception.
The bed and bedding and bathroom were excellent
This is the most beautifully located hotel for a relaxing treat. The food, rooms and staff are fantastic. Definitely 10/10
The whole atmosphere of the place, very welcoming and friendly. Staff were very good - very efficient. Lovely surroundings, rooms very comfortable. No
Was delayed on train journey & when I arrived all paper work ready for me & they were happy to do room service or open bar! None
Very comfortable room, friendly staff, excellent meals
The superb position of the hotel with sea views from the restaurant. Well equipped room and comfortable bed. I did not like the poor state of the decoration and the dirty and damaged tiling in the bathroom.
dinner was lovely as was the waitress. Unbeatable position Breakfast was v v poor using cheap products inc bread, fruit juices, jams etc. Waitress in am was appaling and breakfast was stone cold
The location. The bedroom was very small and there was nowhere to store our cases .It felt very claustrophobic with shutters at the window and running condensation in the morning. We could only open the window by climbing on the dressing table.
Friendliness of staff and accommodation, although the room was quite warm I thought it was petty that the "classic" rooms do not get bath robes. I called to ask if we did get them as there were hooks in the bathroom for them, but was told that "classic" rooms don't get them, but the guy I spoke to said he would see if he had any spare ones. I said it didn't matter for that evening he could look the following day, but the robes were not forthcoming.
\\Friendly and helpful staff. runnng out of what was on the menue when main chef was off.
The hotel was easy reach for Newquay and was able to do some lovely walks from there, The 3 course meal was very good value, and the service was good and everyone was very friendly. The hotel was very basic, it was our Ruby wedding felt it would of been nice if there was some music.
Film show provided on Saturday evening! Nice pool. Rooms comfortable, airy and spacious. Table tennis and pool table great for the kids. Quite a long walk into Newquay and limited to choice of places to eat within a short walking distance.
Excellent help from staff especially the gentleman on the late night shift who gave me wake up call, toasted me some breakfrast and arranged taxi to airport. No phone in room
Swimming pool, recreational activities, location Not all the rooms have been upgraded yet, drinks service in the restaurant sporadic, lots of 'turkey and tinsel' pensioners
nice hotel good location and good room having to order evening meal at breakfast time
Warm welcome, good breakfast None
Wonderful place, bedroom and sitting rooms particularly outstanding Nothing of note
Happy. The shower could be better.
Lovely house and very spacious room. Excellent breakfasts. My husband liked the honesty bar! Easy to find. Owners both very friendly. Can't think of any.
house and surroundings bar prices a little expensive
Helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. Very clean
The whole experience. We were made to feel welcome straight away and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nothing at all
Nice building, breakfast good No tv in room,no heating available, didn't accept credit cards, breakfast room was really claustrophobic
Hospitality and excellent food None
The rooms were beautifully decorated and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and nothing was too much trouble.
The staff and managers and the food Small room
We especially like the staff who went out of their way to help and please the only downsie which I don't think can be changed is the creaky floors in the bedrooms this was our second stay and would certianly stay again in the future See answer above
Very friendly staff, excellent food - very good range and quality, relaxing bar with excellent beers Bed was rather uncomfortable - could do with a new mattress - could feel some of the springs!
Due to a faint smell in our room noticed by the cleaner, we were upgraded as soon as we got there free of charge, for a room with a sea view. The food was fantastic, the staff were welcoming, and the whole place relaxing. I can find nothing about the Rashleigh Arms to dislike.
A very friendly atmosphere, staff very helpful. Obviously very popular judging from residents visiting again having enjoyed previously visits There was nothing I did not like
well situated,good food,
charecter and friendly service in a great area
Friendly staff, reasonable restaurant
informal atmosphere, friendly and easy going. when dining/drinking inhouse,as we did,not being able to sign for anything you charge to your room on each occassion.Long list presented at checking out day for you to remember what you had had!
Friendly, relaxed and welcoming. None
It was great, friendly staff and excellent gardens. The manager couldn't have been more helpful regarding BOOKING.COM's complete mess up of the booking (see below) Never book through booking.com. When we arrived, they had no record of our booking. Fortunately they had a spare room for us that night (the love shack - result!) however the manager had to spend the next hour looking for another hotel for us for the Saturday as they were fully booked for a wedding. How could you lose the booking????? !!!!!
The friendliness and location
Beautiful location and views, very quiet and relaxing. Great restaurant, lovely food, especially fish, and stunning terrace for dining. Breakfast was good, cooked to order.
A very freindly and relaxing hotel would definitly return and recomend.
Position was very good for local coastal attractions, food was excellent staff very helpful and pleasant, gardens very well looked after a quiet and restful hotel.
Everything you need here, from coffee in the morning on. Any problems quickly dealt with, and if not, explanation why not. Wonderful position on clifftop. Quiet. None
The location to the coast and countryside was superb.the gardens were lovely. The hotel did not keep up with the information given in the guide.
The bed was very comfortable. Limited selection on menu not unless you want fish. The hotel was a little bit over priced i thought.
Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Excellent Italian cuisine.Lovely mansion house.
An excellent central position in Cornwall close to most of the interesting sites. The house and the countryside around are fantastic. A dream. The inside is very elegant and the rooms are comfortable and beautiful. Every detail is perfect. And the owners are charming and welcoming. Really a great place to spend three/four days or more.
A comfortable stay in a beautiful setting. This is more like very comfortable bed & breakfast accommodation as there are presently no lunch or evening meal facilities. The swimming pool is out of use.
We liked the atmosphere, the Italian food and the Hotel itself that had clearly a great deal of history attached to it. We particularly liked the informal conversatioons with staff.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful to us. The room was large, comfortable and quiet. Of particular note were the toys for our kids. My daughter said "this is the best hotel we've ever stayed". It was tough to find, but worth the effort!
The bedroom and en-suite were very spacious and comfortable. The ability to walk thriugh the grounds was worth the effort. The restaurant waqs non functional due to staff problems and some effort should have been made to advance warn patrons of this situatiuon.
First class period hotel ( 1868) all period features I un spolit countryside N/A
The family suite we stayed in was well laid out and spacious. Thoughtful little touches such as the toys and Peter Rabbit mugs provided for the children's use were much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Marco made us feel most welcome.
Yes, we very much enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The food was delicious, the staff polite and friendly, the room was clean and location convenient. I would very much recommend if you like luxury and excellent food.
