We checked in and were somehow upgraded from a double room to a suite - a pleasant surprise! When I called to confirm we were in the right room, they were very pleasant and more than willing for us to take the suite, so we did. Everything was very clean and neat, and though we were only there for a night, we were quite satisfied. One caveat: the hotel is on top of a hill, but the driveway from the highway is a little hard to see in the dark. Just be aware that it will come up shortly after a light, then necessitate climbing a gravel road uphill for quite a ways before you reach the actual hotel. That said, the view the next morning was fabulous!
Visited during off-season, needed quiet place to get away and recharge. Architecture of building obviously 70'sh, but one-room suite was recently remodeled: fresh, clean, comfortable. Central location close to downtown and also to ski area. Very friendly and professional front desk staff. Pool and hot tub lighting a bit harsh, but all in all not a deal-breaker. Will definitely return.
If you liked the 1970's then you will like this place. It appears there have been some updates but it still felt like we walked into a time warp upon entry. Clean decor and the suite was well equipped. This would make a good one week base camp for a skiing family or people who will be outdoors most of the time.
Recently remodeled. Undergoing some further upgrades/construction in May 2012. Central location, easy to get to. 2-bedroom suite was actually a single room with a kitchenette adjoined to a 1-bedroom suite with its own full kitchen and living room area. The combined result was a bedroom with 2 double beds, a kitchenette and full bath, a kitchen and living room with its own half bath and a sleeper sofa, and a master bedroom with king size bed and its own private full bath. The kitchen area had a full-size fridge, sink, a small cooktop and oven, toaster, blender, coffee maker, pots/pans/tableware. It had a 3-stool bar counter for eating. No other seating for meals in the suite, however. The rooms were clean and appointed with what you'd expect for a mid-range hotel. Two of the window-unit heater/AC units were new, but the one in the master bedroom was older (and unfortunately louder.) We had an unfortunate problem with allergy symptoms (it was early spring) that seemed to be worse inside the suite. This may have been a delayed reaction to pollens and dust outside, but it didn't seem to be. I suspected there may have been either dust or mold coming in via the window surround of the old fan unit.
The hilltop was a great place to stay for a ski vacation. Our suite had everything needed to make a meal + was in close proximity to Steamboat Springs + the ski area. Shuttles were convenient so we were able to get ready at the hotel + start right off skiing when we got to Steamboat
There may not be a lot of bells and whistles to this hotel, but for the money, location, and views it can't be beat! They're currently working on lots of updating; should be great once it's all done. On the downside, there is no breakfast or restaurant on site, and the wi-fi is only available in the lobby, not guest rooms (it is still free though.)
The hotel needs updating. The rooms are clean and the location is good.
The swimming pool and game-room, and the very convenient and free shuttle service made for a wonderful Steamboat experience. The staff at the Hilltop were wondful, excited, and very proud of their town. We will go back for sure. The rooms were very comfortable, clean and efficient.
The room was great for the price that I paid traveling during the summer. The hotel was practically empty and served our needs to a tee.
