Pros: The hostess Anelia was exceptionally helpful, friendly and welcoming. We travel often abroad, but this breakfast was excellent, especially her homemade porridge.
Cons: Being an old and historic dwelling, there was only a bath.
Pros: Food was great. The neatness etc.
Cons: Nothing at all the place is lovely well looked after and the owners are excellent
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our over night stay. Our hostess was welcoming and most helpful with local places to visit and contact details. Breakfast was outstanding - especially the chop and ‘skilpad’
Pros: Breakfast and site was great
Pros: The hostess was friendly and very helpfull and informativee. She booked our stargazing for us. Breakfast was excellent
Pros: Room was very neat and clean, despite being over a 100 years old! Our host made us feel extremely welcome, and primarily for that reason, I'd recommend staying here while in Sutherland! Truly one of the most charming homes I've ever spent a night in!
Cons: There was a slight issue with the water supply on that night - However, it was rectified by the time we woke up the next morning.

Pros: There was also a lovely lounge that we could use. Room was warm and bed included an electric blanket as sutherland is very cold. owner Juanita was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: we liked everything
Pros: We were very pleased that our hostess waited for our arrival although we were nearly 4 hours late due to mechanical problems with our bus. A special thank you to Anza for making sure we were welcomed in style and giving us a quick rundown of the facilities. Juanita was superb in answering all emails and calls leading up to our stay.
Cons: Cannot think of anything we disliked. Pity it was only one night.

Featured amenities include express check-in, express check-out, and multilingual staff. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
Pros: Clean and tidy rooms, comfortable bed and friendly staff.
Pros: Everything was so clean. Lovely breakfast and dinner. Great home- cooked food. Room large with kettle etc was much appreciated Hosts were very helpful and friendly.
Pros: Nice, comfortable.
Cons: Would like TV in room
Pros: Outside looks lovely, inside needs a lot of work - lounge has too much heavy furniture where you can hardly sit.
Pros: - Very good value - Small restaurant opened all day in the house ( the only reliable one in this forlorn village) - Coziness and privacy of the suite (only room with private bath) - Friendliness of owner
Cons: Very cold and drafty JAIME suite. (Karoo and Sutherland are very windy and cold). Other rooms have less openings, hence are less drafty, but they share a bath, and you have to cross the living room in order to get to the 2 shared baths. Lots of paraphernalia everywhere, a bit overcrowding
Cons: All were very good
Pros: Breakfast was standard and well prepared. Good serivce. Friendly and attentive staff.
Cons: A bathroom ensuite would have been nice, but the shared bathrooms were very clean and always available.
Pros: Lovely characterful Karoo house with veranda etc. The room was super comfy and clean. Great beds (with electric warmer as it gets v. cold here at night). Stylish. Wooden floors etc. Cosy warm shared living area. Nice dining room. Good homely food. Lovely Karoo town, and it's very small - so the guesthouse is central!
Cons: Well, the bathrooms are shared but I knew that when I booked - not a problem. Minor mistake in the bill was addressed quickly and painlessly.
Pros: Really would have liked a private bathroom
Cons: That it wasnt made clear that the bathroom situation was comunal
Pros: town was very nice. location convenient
Cons: no on suite facilities. got relocated to a self catering cottage which was very average
Located in Sutherland in the Northern Cape region with NG Kerk Sutherland nearby, Middelfontein Farm provides accommodation with free private parking. There is a seating and a dining area in all units. Cycling can be enjoyed nearby.
Pros: The rest tranquility and the stars.
Cons: Check the availability of the gas
Pros: Perfect location. Outside of town that cab actually beer noisy. It catered for our needs. Beds were heated.
Cons: Bed size was a bit small. My wife and I landed up sleeping in separate beds.
Pros: Just outside of town but felt like it was in the middle of nowhere. Near enough to SALT and other Stargazing opportunities to make those visits really easy, and what a beautiful place to wake up in. I loved everything about Sutherland.
Cons: Getting the temperature right in the shower was a bit finicky, but you know, there are worse problems to have.
Pros: Such a beautiful place to stay, it was quiet and the Karoo nights never disappoint. The cottage had everything we need and was so original and quaint. An absolute treat
Cons: Nothing it was perfect
Pros: The quaintness of the cottage & the fact that it had no electricity so it could be more personal
Cons: Bed was a letdown - too small and a little hard
With a stay at The Whitehouse Inn in Karoo Hoogland, you'll be a 4-minute walk from Sutherland Church and within a 5-minute drive of Sutherland Golf Course. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Very close to everything. People were friendly and welcomed us.
Pros: Very friendly and helpfull staff, especially Ricardo. Full DSTV bouquet. Food was good.
Cons: No basin in kitchenette. Parking on the street.
Pros: Great atmosphere
Cons: All good
Pros: Room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and the breakfast was very nice.
Pros: Location excellent. People excellent. Ricardo the barman...top man. Food excellent. Breakfast amazing. We had a great stay. Spent 1 night in the 2 bedroom flat and it was huge and spacious.
Cons: Nothing not to love
Pros: The pictures don't do this place justice at all. Food was amazing. The hosts Cathy and Ian didn't hesitate to help. My daughter is vegetarian and they made sure to remind the kitchen staff and made sure that she was OK. I would most definitely recommend The Whitehouse Inn.
Pros: We had a two night stay as part of a spring flower and Tankwa Karoo tour. The venue is centrally located and our room was very comfortable. The on-site restaurant was very convenient and good which simplified our arrangements a great deal. Hosts Cathy and Ian provide an excellent service and were a great help in advising about sightseeing in the area and also about off the beaten track gravel roads we could use for the rest of our trip. We will recommend the venue to others.
With a stay at Die Heks se Huis in Karoo Hoogland, you'll be a 2-minute walk from Sutherland Church and within a 5-minute drive of Sutherland Golf Course. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The property is spacious and rural inside and out: you feel a sense of peace inspite of the grey and purple paint on the building's outside. The inside is conceptualised as "olde worlde boere kombuis" which is witty and fun, with a gorgeous rietdak ceiling and lovely shutters on the windows that can keep out the sun/light but don't stop the airflow. Everything you need is there - and we had our braai on the open fireplace indoors because of the wind chill outside. Having horses and lovely dogs just across the fence was a delight to my partner who loves animals. Die Heks se Huis encourages you to relax and have a laugh. We loved it.
Cons: Nowhere to stack the numerous bed cushions except on the floor or they filled up your chair space. The stoep and sitting room chairs were characterful but not massively comfortable. It is a place to linger and just enjoy the evening or morning but you need slightly more comfy seating perhaps.
Pros: This little cottage had everything we needed and was stylishly decorated. We enjoyed the very comfortable beds with electric blankets, an indoor fireplace, and a very rare item in a self-catering unit - a good sharp knife! It's in an urban farmyard of sorts, with chickens, 2 chatty sheep, a couple of waggy-tailed dogs and 2 carrot-appreciating horses. It is slap bang in the middle of town making it very convenient and walkable to get supplies. The neighbouring church bells let you know the time on the hour, so don't bother wearing your watch. Our host Marne's communication was also excellent.
Cons: This seems to be a newly developed unit so the area out front is not yet landscaped. Its just bare soil and stones which don't make for great views. It would also have been useful to have a stand to put the braai grid on over the fire, but this is nitpicking as everything else was super organised.
Pros: The beds were very comfy and the layout very practical. We could walk over to the shops and a stargazing film, but never felt we were not private.
Cons: We just missed braai gloves and a driehoek or somethig to place grid on.
Pros: The property is very centrally located and offers good value for money. The beds are very comfortable and has warm bedding for the cold evenings. There is a nice little fire place in the room and also a fire pit outside. The water pressure is good, and the shower nice. The small kitchenette also is well equipped. Overall we found the place very nice, with just a few minor improvements needed.
Cons: The property has dogs and horses, so there are a lot of flies. We missed a hand towel and soap in the bathroom. The east window does not really have a curtain or blind. Late nights of stargazing are followed with crack of the morning sun and roosters. Not ideal, unless you are a morning person. We also missed something to put our luggage on to unpack, and ended up using the dining table for this purpose.
