Pros: Amazing home like atmosphere, amazing food.
Pros: Exquisite location, near the Šumava NP. The guesthouse is located in a nice valley. It has its own restaurant with winter garden, terrace and a small pond. The owners are just lovely, the rooms with facilities are clean, new. You can take a nice walk around, there are lot of farm animals.
Cons: Wi-fi not very reliable.
Pros: Amazing nature & stuff, loved the home made kitchen. Love the animals!
Cons: The rooms could be better equipped
The newly reconstructed 4* hotel is located on the south slope of Pancir, at the altitude of 1,100 m in the Sumava protected natural zone. The spa-like atmosphere of the surrounding mountainous countryside makes the hotel an ideal destination for relaxation and rehabilitation, conference tourism and tourism all year round. Accommodation: 117 newly reconstructed rooms. Each room has its own toilet, shower, satellite TV, WIFI Internet and telephone. Hotel has barrier-free entrance. Hotel services: swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, billiards and a unique, huge children's playroom. During summer and winter you can enjyou free animation programs. Free WiFi and parking. Credit cards are accepted.
Pros: Fresh renovation, interior design
Cons: Water drain in the bathroom is VERY slow. Buffet dinner is less then ordinary (macaroni/knedliky/overfried chicken), quality of ceska jidelna, not a restaurant. Spa is overcrowded - lots of unaccompanied minors in the pool. 3 stars is a max for this hotel, not 4 stars. Overpriced, especially in low season.
Pros: Good breakfast and dinner.
With a stay at Orea Hotel Špičák in Zelezna Ruda, you'll be in the mountains, just steps from Sumava. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and an elevator. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: the room was extremely spacious like a living room haha. and it was clean and the air was really fresh becuz it's located in mountainous area . Definitely worth it.
Cons: Only one towel. but it was cheaper than the others in germany so it was okay. and there's no restaurant so we needed to drive away.
Pros: The price, parking, view
Cons: food - only breakfast was available, and that was a hit-and-miss experience. some of the offerings were clearly old. For dinner you have to go to a much nicer sister hotel about 800m away. wellness - there is no wellness, once again, you have to go to the same hotel 800m away. The wellness is nice there, but as a guest from Spicak hotel, you have limited hours when you can go there. The hotel is ancient, run-down, terribly in need of ground-up renovations. The beds are of horrible quality, so are the pillows. there is a lot of noise in the room from the adjacent rooms Although the hotel boasts an award in pet friendliness, a fellow couple of guests was scolded for bringing their small dog to the restaurant. I didn't find that nice at all.
Pros: The staff was very friendly and very helpful with all our requests. We had a room with a big balcony and really beautiful view. The hotel itself has a special atmosphere as it is a little bit retro but we really liked it. You cannot look for a luxury but it has all you need and it is clean. The dinners exceeded our expectations and were really delicious. We could also use the services in the luxurious hotel nearby like wellness, really great kids corner and especially the kids club with a program every afternoon.
Cons: Only the beds would need new matrasses. They were not the most comfortable. There was no yoghurt for breakfast.
Pros: The breakfasts and dinners were ok, rather a choice. I am coffee lover so coffee did not pass for me :/ but contrary the linked hotel Horizont has an excellent coffee and great kids. there is also pool and spa. Rooms rather spacious very simple nothing modern but ok. in general you get all you need. there was also a small kids corner.
Cons: I wanted to give a pass mark only because my son got terribly sick there. that influenced of course everything. to give to the hotel credits the staff tried to be helpful and investigated into the issue but it is unclear what was the course. we were with friends and other kids did not get sick. they also give us a voucher as a compensation to use for the next time, as we at the end passed 3 nights in hospital with the LO. breakfasts: no yogurts. baken was not well done. Dinners were nice and rich but I found everything too greasy. I missed hairdryer in the room.
Pros: The hotel staff are professional and helpful, breakfast awesome different choices and also restaurant staff are great. The location was ideal for relaxation as it was away from the hustle. It was really pleasant to stay there.
Pros: Good for one night sleep, we were about to start hiking trip from Spicacke Sedlo. For the price it's quite a good offer, OK room with all necessary basic facilities. Breakfast good, with nice view. Location is really good, but distant (so good by car)
Cons: The furniture in our room looked a bit worn out, but still everything was in working condition.
Turistická ubytovna Zámeček offers accommodation in Hojsova Stráž. The accommodation features ski storage space, as well as a shared lounge and a garden. There is a terrace and guests can make use of free WiFi and free private parking. The rooms at the guest house are fitted with a seating area. At Turistická ubytovna Zámeček rooms include a wardrobe and a shared bathroom. Guests at the accommodation will be able to enjoy activities in and around Hojsova Stráž, like hiking, skiing and cycling. Bodenmais is 36 km from Turistická ubytovna Zámeček, while Zwiesel is 30 km from the property.
Pros: This is a great place. You really can feel like it was a long time ago in the country. It has this feeling of the East. The hotel is far from the street so it is really quiet. There is a kitchen and you can sit outside as well. Free parking and a nice view from our room into the valley. We loved it to come back after the hike and sit in the sun in front of the hotel and read.
Pros: Although it could surely use some renovation, Zámeček is exactly what it says it is: a cheap, mountain hut type accommodation allowing access to hiking trails in the surrounding mountains.
Cons: The object could surely use some renovation. Considering the price, however, it is great that such place exists.
Pros: I was not impressed.
Cons: I booked based on the comments on the booking.com page. The one where the guy said he was not impressed and then that everything turned out ok. Glad it did for him. The place looks like something out of a horror flick but that can be the case with these older properties. I had booked the quad room with a double bed and two twins and like everywhere else I have stayed, whatever beds are indicated, all beds are always made up. There was a young guy who met me and took me up to where an older man was which I am assuming was his Father. From there the young guy took me to the room which was a room with two twin beds. I mentioned I had booked a quad room. The young guy then showed me the quad room and then said I would have to make up my own bed and eventhough there was a double bed in the room I would only get linen for the one side of the bed. Despite my efforts I did not get the room I booked and ended up in the twin bed room. The Father kept on arguing with me saying I booked for one person which is correct but I still booked the quad room. The shared bathrooms were clean but when I went to take a shower I could not close the door to the shower area and the showers were not separated. There was one large cubicle with two shower heads which I found very odd. Thankfully the only other guests that night were female. I think I would have been better off sleeping that night in my car.
Pros: The owner greeted us with open arms even if he did not speak any English. They were cleaning when we arrived so they are taking care of the place. The rooms are basic but they have what you need and you can use a kitchen. You can start hiking immediately from the hotel so all together it is great value for money!
Cons: We had nothing we did not like but just do not expect too much and something luxurious for that kind of money.
Pros: Area is very beautiful. Owner very friendly. Great value for the money you pay. Decent stay.
Cons: I would love to pay with card.
When you stay at Wellness Hotel Centrál in Klatovy, you'll be 10 minutes by foot from White Unicorn Baroque Apothecary. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
Pros: A lock up garage was provided for our motorbikes.
Pros: Medium breakfast not too many options.
Cons: Reception staff don't speak English at all.
Pros: Could have been more variety for hot food. Tomotoes, Mushrooms, potatoes
Cons: Breakfast too basic
Pros: Perfect location - 10 min. walk from city centre. Room comfortable and very quiet. Staff nice and helpful. Breakfast and coffee great. Will definitely come back in summer.
Cons: Elevator is dangerous (there is no protection door between wall and moving elevator). Children must not use it alone in any case.
Cons: Everything is too old.
Pros: Personal was great. We also got our breakfast in a box even if we were leaving early and we are vegetarians. Inside the hotel was clean and nice.
Cons: From outside the hotel looks very scruffy.

Pros: good breakfast value and great choice
Pros: Very friendly staff. Close to the main road, and easy to find. Easy to park.
Cons: I could have wished for air condition.
Pros: Nice friendly willing staff, clean place, brilliant big breakfast!:)
Pros: Everyone at the hotel was very pleasant and couldn't do enough for us, especially the staff behind the bar. Food in the a la carte restaurant was all homemade and delicious!
Cons: The bed was a bit too hard but that’s a personal choice as some people in our group liked it.
Pros: It had a lot of offers to spend time
Cons: A lot of people, but all good
When you stay at Hotel Grádl in Zelezna Ruda, you'll be in a national park, within a 15-minute drive of Sumava and Grosser Arber Ski Resort. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Cons: Breakfast was minimal. Shower in the room was not good. could not pay with card in bar, but could in hotel.
Pros: All was amazing - the staff, the restaurant, excellent food and great beer. Even more to underline is the flexibility of the staff - Mrs. Boss prepared everything for our stay, even though we booked 30 minutes before from the last hill in Germany (we were traveling with bikes). :) "Bike friendly" hotel.... kitchen was closed but they didn't let us dying of hunger and the pancake at the end - A DREAM!!!!!!:))) can only recommend!!!!
Pros: Good breakfast, enough parking space, quiet surroundings. Value for money.
Cons: Beds were a bit too firm for our taste.
Pros: I stayed in Hotel Gradl with my mother. We booked just one hour before arriving and everything went smooth. The room was decent and clean for the money you pay. The breakfast was enough too. As I saw, there was a small pool in the garden that one can use. It looked pretty. And adjacent they have also sport field and playground for kids that look nice. What we like the most is the picturesque setting of the hotel. It is just 15 min walk from the centre on a hill in the woods, surrounded by high trees. You can relax totally and go jogging/hiking/mointainbiking around. There are many trails for that! The staff was very helpful with giving us directions. It seems that it is a family owned place with motivated people who really care about their guests
Pros: Better than your usual mountain lodgings. Squeeky clean, good food, friendly staff. Lies off the main road directly on a trail. Suitable best for groups and families.
Pros: Good location near forest
Cons: Walk up Bit far
Pros: Very beautiful in the forest. Walk directly into nature.
With a stay at Penzion DIANA in Zelezna Ruda, you'll be near ski lifts, just steps from Sumava. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: It's a very basic accommodation. If you don't mind - it's right next to the slope (important during winter). Up the hill from the center of Zelezna Ruda - important during winter, need chains to drive up the slope. Greenery, tranquility, you can just disappear into the woods
Cons: Would prefer a thicker pillow
Pros: Breakfast was poor, the cheapest product using for breakfast, only cheese and cheap salami, cold eggs.. Price was to big for this type of breakfast...
Cons: Hotel was not clean at all. Dust everywhere. Really poor communication by e-mail. The personal stuff being rude..
Pros: You can’t expect more for this kind of money. Decent meal, good breakfast.
Cons: The staff’s knowledge of foreign languages is very limited.
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast. Wi-fi available. Very cheap, which is why I didn’t mind shortcomings of room.
Cons: The room was dark and appeared neglected. Beds very low.
Pros: Very nice view from the rooms and the price is very friendly.
Cons: The wifi signal was very weak on the top floor, it could be better.
Pros: Double bed to myself! There was a kettle and little electric cooker. Clean and just comfortable enough. Basic accommodation but really really good price. The owner was so lovely and drove me to the ski slope in Spicak one day because she was going there too. Would like to come back for another trip.
Cons: Basic. No tea or coffee but there was sugar.
Pros: It was located a fantastic place, and the staff were really kind. Check in and check out was quick and seamless.
Cons: The bed was a bit junk and in the bathroom the water was very slow. The other guests were very loud.
Pros: It was a perfect stay!! Nice located and very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.
When you stay at PENZION DRAGOUN in Klatovy, you'll be 4 minutes by foot from White Unicorn Baroque Apothecary. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: basic but clean, good location.
Cons: the pictures are misleading, didn't see the spa or waterpark. looks like centreparcs on the pictures but just a basic room and no other facilities. reasonable value for money but the pictures are misleading
Pros: Walking distance to most sights
Pros: Simple but clean and very reasonably priced place to stay.
Pros: Everything was fine including the breakfast!
Pros: location and shower was good
Cons: basic, curtains like tissue paper, walls paper thin so you could hear adjacent rooms on toilet and shower, not enough bedding so cold at night, pillows like big bean bags and not of use, no resupply of toilet paper/ towels, on the booking it showed sauna and pool available but ever located and never pointed out, staff difficult to find.
Pros: Very good location
Cons: Old fashion furniture
Pros: location is good
Cons: not clean, needs renovation

The German border is 3 km away. The ski bus departs directly from the hotel and the Großer Arber Mountain can be found 11 km for Zelezna Ruda.
Pros: The food was delicious and cheap :D
Pros: Nice central location, very nice friendly staff & very good food & beer served in the restaurant.
Cons: No daily room cleaning services - we used all towels & toilet paper late at night & had to get fresh supplies from reception the next morning. Also there were ‘dubious’ look stains on single bed mattress l slept on. Also, for the entire 4 night stay we had no TV as we told the satellite was not working!!! Not good when you have a little girl to entertain. Finally, we were not given the room with the balcony & mountain views as per my booking confirmation. I believe that we should have been given a reduced rate given these factors. Paul B (UK)
Pros: Staff English speak fluent
Pros: Very helpful staff, cozy and nice rooms, great kitchen.
Cons: We had a great stay, everything was perfect.
Surrounded by a romantic landscaped garden, Zamek Hradek is housed in a 17th-century chateau. Its restaurant serves classic Czech dishes and in the summer, guests can enjoy the summer terrace. Rooms here have high ceilings and large windows. They are decorated in English Chippendale, Tudor Renaissance and Louis XIV styles. Zamek Hradek offers an indoor pool as well as sauna and massages for a surcharge. Located in the village of Hrádek, the Zamek is about 22 km away from Klatovy and 70 km from Plzen. Guests can also visit Rabí Castle, located about 9 km away.
Pros: The room is warm (heating works perfectly fine and you could adjust it as you need) Breakfast is excellent (fruits, hot sausages/eggs/potato cakes and many other things, including yogurt toppings) Dinner is exceptional (portions are huge and it's relatively cheap) Wellness center is in the courtyard so you can visit it in just a bathrobe from your room (it includes several new saunas) Friendly stuff
Cons: Location is not so attractive though (not much to visit around, but there are many places like in 10+ km)
Pros: The place is magnificent and the manager at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. The room was perfect and the location was breathtaking. This is the perfect jumping-off point for anyone exploring the Šumava region.
Cons: The wait staff at supper/breakfast were not especially friendly. Breakfast could also have more variety.
Pros: ,Very impressing building, beautiful garden, very good restaurant, great indoor pool large bath
Cons: When taking a shower the floor gets wet and very very slippery
Pros: The property over all is a very nice unique place. It was refurbished by the owner in 2010 in a really good ways.
Cons: CAMERA IN THE SAUNA AREA This is a big no-go. There are cameras in the sauna area (not in the sauna cabin itself), constantly recording. The staff is okay about that. This is a big no go. Breakfast does not reach the level of expecations you could have of 4star hotel. Only little things could be done to improve the quality. Juices are just a very sweet flavoured water. Coffee and other beverages are a bit bellow average. The staff is also not really in the mood in the morning :)
Pros: The historic charm
Pros: Quiet, courteous. efficient...good food
Cons: Difficult to find
Located in Klatovy, 200 metres from the Cerna Vez Tower, Penzion Poprda offers an on-site restaurant. Free Wi-Fi is provided in the entire building and free public parking is possible on site. The accommodation units of the Poprda Penzion include a private bathroom and a seating area with a TV. Some have a kitchen and a balcony. Tennis courts are 1 km away and the Čínov Golf Course is 3 km from the property. The Klatovy Bus Stop is 50 metres from the house, while the Klatovy Train Station is 2 km away.
Pros: close to the centre. pleasant staff
Cons: Carpet felt not clean, unpleasant. Too much smell of fried food in the corridor and room. Bo possibility to pay with card
Pros: The pension is well situated in Klatovy with free parking in the nearby streets. Nice traditional feeling. The owners were nice, a bit in hurry in the morning. For the price nothing to add, it was good.
Cons: When you pay something at a cheap price do not expect to have the same standards as a 120€ hotel ! Here the only things to improve : curtains (to avoid getting annoyed by the sun at 5:00 am) & beds.
Pros: Amazing staff. Sooo helpful. Nothing was too much bother. Great restaurant. Great food. RIGHT there next to the city. Free parking across the road. Excellent value for money.
Cons: It was all brilliant.
Pros: Great price. Great quality. Friendly.
Pros: Great location, just off the main square. Decent accommodation is not easy to find in Klatovy, so our choice was a balance between location and quality. The room was very spacious, beds comfortable. We didn't find that the noise from the street below disturbed us, despite having both windows open. Excellent breakfast cooked to order from a choice of four or five options.
Cons: We stayed for four nights and clean towels and a clean at least once of the bathroom would have been appreciated (admittedly we could have tried asking for them).
Pros: Nice and helpful staff. Really delicious breakfast, unbelievable ratio between what you get & price. Great location, just less than 3minutes to main square and park. Easy for parking.
Pros: Breakfast was tasty and good value for money
When you stay at Penzion Bobešova bouda in Zelezna Ruda, you'll be 1 minutes by foot from Sumava. Featured amenities include a computer station, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and a 24-hour front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Im like location
Cons: easy equipment
Pros: Quite ok rooms if all amenities would function.
Cons: We had cold water 1 night and when telling to the owner the next day we only encountered very arrogant and cold approach. Finally he came with an apology that there was a technical failure and gave us different room. But still being very arrogant. Reading other reviews, we were not the the only ones having this negative experience. Try to avoid this property. Seemingly low price is not worthy your ruined holidays. There is no wifi in rooms either.
Pros: The breakfast was good, broad offer and refilled during time. However, coffee could be way better. Location for the hiking trips is great especially close to the train station. Available parking and lot of facilities of hotel (sauna, table fotball, biliard, gym, tennis court...and so). Recommendation for the hikes around from hotel brochure.
Cons: I didn't like the attitude of the stuff at all. We were welcome by "if you wanna have dinner, go out somewhere we close in 1 hour" following day was bar/restaurant closed because "the don't have any incoming guests following week" (but I don't care). We were forced to do the payment during breakfast time (which is just one hour) so we couldn't spent it peacefully. They should also maintain the shower and equipment more. The shower hose was leaking water everywhere, but not from the head. Just one AC plug (only in bathroom). Poor internet connection
Pros: Delicious breakfast Clean room and helpful staff
Pros: Nice place to stay in zelezna ruda by the station. They take payment in euros or csk. Very good price for a few days away in the mountains. Can walk into Germany (bayerisch eisenstein) in under an hour. Lots of cheap goods around. Nice cafes. Ski resort.
Cons: All good, although a long way from any airport!
Pros: Location, dry comfortable, plenty of lounge space, storage room for our bicycles - and excellent food

Pros: perfect in the country
Cons: do not change a thing
Pros: Great restaurant and staff and very nice comfortable rooms, the owner really looked after our group. Very clean and interesting place .
Pros: A/C in bedroom and restaurant
Pros: Great steaks and decor in the restaurant. Nice shower. Comfy bed.
Cons: Too close to the road - a bit noisy.
Pros: Room cleaning was fine
Cons: First of all there was no information about construction in the property. It started early in the morning and also its a very noisy location. Its next to a very busy road. Also the staff wasn't friendly at all and breakfast was beyond bad.
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful
Cons: Long walk from railway station
Pros: Arrived late but staff kept the restaurant open. Also provided an early breakfast & took us back to the railway station free of charge.
Cons: The animal skins adorning the walls were not to my taste
Pros: The staff couldn't have been more helpful. They collected us from the station and dropped us back the next morning. They set up breakfast early for us due to our early departure
Enjoying a quiet location 200 metres from the Železná Ruda Train Station, the Penzion U Kaplicky is a 5-minute walk away from the Samoty Ski Area. It offers free parking. All rooms and apartments have a private bathroom and a satellite TV. Shared facilities include a lounge, a ski storage room and a garden with a barbecue area. Various restaurants can be reached within a 3-minute walk and a tennis court is just a 5-minute walk away. Železná Ruda is a convenient base for trips in the Šumava Mountains.
Pros: The Penzion was very well equipped with parking in front of the building, a well equipped kitchen, a good size fridge, and recycling. Unfortunately there was no snow in December, but the locals did their very best to create artificial snow for the nearby beginners' ski slopes. The host was also very helpful in recommending various walks and local 'must-see' points. I would recommend you come by car. This gives you the flexibility to also explore the German side and the Arber mountain which had more snow and more open ski slopes.
Pros: Location (close to the center, yet super quite). Stuff approx. Kitchen.
Cons: Wifi was disconnecting quite often.
The family-run Pension Böhmerwald is situated in the centre of Železná Ruda, just 3 km from the border to Germany. It features a non-smoking restaurant, a fitness centre and a sauna. Wi-Fi and parking are available free of charge. All rooms at the Böhmerwald guesthouse have a private bathroom with a hairdryer, a minibar and a safety deposit box. Breakfast is served every morning and the restaurant offers typical Czech specialities, international cuisine and delicious cakes. There is a large summer terrace and children can have fun on the playground. The Samoty Ski Slope is 300 metres and within a 5-minute drive you can reach the Špičák Ski Area. The Velký Javor Ski Area is 10 km away. The Železná Ruda Train Station is 300 metres away.
Pros: Friendly staff is the only benefit of this pension. Otherwise not worth to spend the money.
Cons: The advertising shows 4 star **** Hotel with quite nice pictures, but in fact it is like 2 star ** one with poor equipment. It’s a clean, but rather simple hostel. Location is strange in a neighborhood of block of flats. Breakfast was poor, with too less choice and rather low quality.
Pros: Good location, large restaurant and good beer, near to downtown and nature. Breakfast was tasty and nice view. The stuff war friendly and give you all information you need.
Pros: Good location, friendly staff
Cons: Restaurant closes at 22:00
Pros: Perfect !!

The bathroom is fitted with a shower. Studios also feature a kitchenette. Various restaurants and café bars can be found in the vicinity of Penzion U Hejtmana Other facilities offered at the property include luggage storage. An array of activities can be enjoyed in the surroundings, including cycling and hiking.
Pros: It was right in the city center, from there you could walk to all the main sights within minutes.
Cons: The apartment had a strange smell to it, they only gave us very small towels, and the central heating was turned on so high that we had to open windows. They promised a TV with working channels, which wasn't the case and the kitchen was very poorly equipped. Due to the good location you can hear the church bells every hour.
Cons: Poor wi-fi
Pros: Location, 20m from the town square.
Cons: No one on reception and no one to answer the phone.
Pros: It is in the center of the town and very clean.
With a stay at JEZ&SPI in Plánice, you'll be 8.8 mi (14.2 km) from White Unicorn Baroque Apothecary and 9.2 mi (14.7 km) from Catacombs. Featured amenities include a business center, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Nice, new and clean. Good food in the restaurant.
Cons: It was all good.
Pros: Very friendly service, nice jacuzzi, good food, room was fine.
Cons: The bed sheets were too short for a man of 1m90. It was noisy during the night (a dog barking and noisy tourists in the hotel).
Pros: This place was a bit of a surprise. It had a nice ambient, the food was really good. The breakfast was great! The room was comfortable and it had the biggest bathroom of our trip :). The bed was a bit too firm for my taste (it was the kind of bed that has an irremovable mattress, they are one), but that's different for everybody, depending on what suits you. The staff was nice. We drove to the town form the direction of Klatovy and at first we were a bit surprised what this place is even doing in such a small village. We then discovered there was quite a bit more of it than we first thought :).
Cons: The mini fridge in the room kind of doubled as a night stand. It was clever but it was also a bit too loud to be standing this close to the bed. Of course it could be unplugged and that solved the problem.
Pros: Food was delicious and the stafgf very friendly
Cons: We got a room near the entrance and there was noise during the night
Pros: The location of the Hotel is Very far and located in small village. I arrived night and the area was very dark. The Hotel is noisy at night. No soap, shampoo in the bath room.....

Pros: Breakfast choice of bread and cereals could be better also the warm choice of eggs. Staff very nice and friendly. Fresh fruit available and also good coffee. Very comfortable beds, and the pillow was a dream!
Cons: No hairdryer, I was missing this.
Pros: restaurant food very good.
Cons: Early morning noise grass cutting and striming 6.30 am
