The whole experience was very enjoyable
Excellent, friendly, and courteous staff.
The shower, big and hot. Lovely,. Nothing I didn't like really
Everything was absolutely ok,very satisfied.
Staff were very nice Not sure if it's common but breakfast was expensive and for the price of a room breakfast should be included. Should also invest in better non feathered pillows. Pool table also had a big tear in it and was unusable.
Clean modern rooms with large comfortable beds. Large flat screen tv and good size power shower. Staff very friendly and bar a popular meeting place. Breakfast quite expensive, only downside
Staff were very helpful and attentive Pool area is looking "tired" and could do with a make over.
Just the ticket for a city break. Some really nice touches that set this hotel apart from others. Will use again.
the cleanliness, the spa, the atmosphere was very quiet. the location was perfect. the rooms were big
All the staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel room was amazing. No complaints at all.
Very clean and very keenly priced for a city centre hotel. Good location near to shops, restaurants and bars. Car parking expensive (ncp car park one street away).
Great shower No complaints
Best beds in town!
quiet, clean and comfortable car parking very expensive at £13 for an overnight stay in a rather rundown area at the rear of the hotel - this extra payment doesnt make the room seem such good value.
Hairdryer needed in the room
Close to the train station for ease of arrival/departure the carpet in the room was a little bit tired and only one tea bag was provided but several sachets of coffee and i prefer tea and would have been nice to include a small biscuit or two
Clean, modern furnishings, great shiwer Soundproffing not great
My stay was as I was expecting Arrived at the hotel to find that my room had been cancelled. They were able to sort the room out but it did take a long time
A very warm, tidy ,clean hotel in a great location. Very polite and helpful staff, all basic facilities for a christmas shopping trip. I have enjoyed my stay very much. everything was excellent!
Clean and tidy. Reasonable room with modern bathroom suite. Comfortable beds. Poor attitude of staff. Only want to do minimal for you. Poor decor in room. Noisy location
The swimming pool, the steam room and sauna was great. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The location of the hotel was ideal for our shopping trip. We only walked a few minutes from the train station and could walk straight out of the hotel to the shops. The room was excellent, it was spacious and immaculately clean.
relaxed , friendly staff , always helpful and polite. late checkouts a big bonus. none.
convenience and cleanliness sofa bed wasn't made up and only had one pillow
Location and price!
Well located for shops pubs eateries and clubs. Hotel is very modern and the breakfast is the best I have every experienced in this type of hotel. You are only 30mins by train from London the station is 5 mins walk.
The friendliness and service give my all the staff - The all over cleanliness was exceptional. Only point of irritation was the the loud spring noises from the bed (only a minor point). I would like to suggest that a lower cost breakfast option was avialble in the Dinning Roon for visitors that only require a basic 'continental' breakfast. Eg cerials / toast / fruit.
Good location, facilities, rooms and staff
More electrical outlets for charging stuff would be nice
Friendly staff. Very professional and accommodating. Room was done to high standards. Good value for money
Close location to football stadium, very good service from the staff. Food was excellent. I received a letter to inform me £3.95 had been charged to my credit card for mineral water I had consumed in my room, which I never had and will ring Reading Hilton to let them know.
For the first time in a very long time, this hotel ticked all the boxes, clean, modern, helpful staff offering an individual service. Nothing, all good.
Good pool area Expensive drinks in the bar
everything was pretty much perfect! comfort, service, cleanliness and informtion....all faultless. food was a little too expensive and delivery charge for room service is totally unnecessary!
The staff were very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble especially the chef in the morning when we were having trouble with the pancake machine. The rooms were clean and large and the Housekeeping staff did a good job. The fact that you are charged so much for everything!! The food was really pricey although very nice. The internet charge is high. The bar prices were high. It was just so reasonable to stay but because of the expensive additions it made the price not so attractive in the end!! I would recommend the hotel but only for a one off treat!!
Very good room & good, albeit expensive, food. The 'Active' listing says parking is free. It is not; it is an expensive underground car park. Fortunately parking is free on the streets adjacent. Hopefully the local council won't, in future, shove double yellow lines everywhere?
Lovely environment, great breakfast None really
I loved this hotel and would like to return in the near future.
The service and the swimming pool facilities i.e. sauna and steam room. Also the included parking was a bonus and the breakfast was lovely. Extremely good value for money
The Hotel and grounds were beautifully kept and the staff very polite and helpful. We really enjoyed the leisure centre and swimming pool. We had no hot water in our room due to a boiler fault but the staff made sure we could shower elsewhere it was inconvenient though. I was also dissappointed that for a four star hotel there were no table cloths on the dining tables for dinner it made it feel more like a pub.
We only stayed for one night as we were going to a local wedding. Good transport to location provided by minicabs to church and home that evening. I did not like the fact that the curtains did not keep out the light in the morning as they were not wide enough. Other friends mentioned this also.
Not what we expected. Barcelo name suggests an upmaket place but it was just average, breakfast was good though. Cramped room, black mould in the tiling in bathroom.
Swimming pool, sauna, HB inclusive, room facilities. No free internet access
We booked room only at a very reasonable price - only marginally more than a Travelodge. Hotel was very good for the money. The facilities were very good and staff helpful. We did not take breakfast as this was rather expensive at £25 for two people. Wifi was not free.
Front of House Staff are professional and friendly. The bathroom was not to my standard. There was a used shower gel container remaining on the shower fitment indicating that the shower and bath are not regularly included in the routine cleaning. This is poor practise and I consider unacceptable. I was disappointed that this was the case.
the staff were very helpfull and as i was late for dinner they fitted me in and with no complaint thank them very much
The bar felt welcoming, more personal than usual hotel bars.
Reasonable cost and good service
Tthe setting right on the Thames. I liked the idea of it not been easy to get to the rooms without a valid key card and made the hotel feel secure especially if you are a lone traveller.
very comfortable hotel very relaxing none
Was within walking distance to most places, not having to get cabs all the time.
Plenty of room to relax, Had a geat evening, with very good meal which we all enjoyed, plenty to chose from, the staff in the restaurant & bar were very helpful excellent, In all a very good stay. would come again Was realey looking forward to the gym and swimming, but they were both closed, both disapointed about it
The breakfast was great, and the spa Well the air conditioning in the room i think was bad, we asked several times for the staff to come and look at it they came once but they didnt come back again, The room wasnt cleaned on time, asked them twice to clean but no one came.
The hotel was CLASSY with a capital C, great design, layout 7 level of clenliness. Have travelled the world a great deal & this would rate as in my top five!
Having spent time here on previously occasions we new the standard and were pleased to say that they are as good as we expected. The reception staff are very welcoming and this time we had the time to stay for b'fast which was again a stress free experience. I do think that the b'fast at the full value is overpriced and that the offer price would be more in enticing if it was the norm rather than offer
The hotel is on the bank ot the river Thames with great swans. I liked it very much It was a little queue on breakfast. And there was only pork from meet (I don't eat it and haven't any choice)
Modern well kept hotel and staff very attentive The price was a bit excessive considering the size of room
The Sevice offered by reception staff and helpfullness was excellent
location and rooms were excellent also pool and leasure facilities were good. Mix up wilth payment. Payment was made in full when booked for all 8 rooms but my guests were then asked to pay again, very embarrassing and spoilt the weekend. The evening meal wasnot up to a good standard and very slow, our 2 course meal took 21/2 hours, not time for coffee. They were better at cooking breakfast.
We had a fantastic stay. The staff were very helpful and polite. The room was huge and easily accommodated the five of us. We had extras such as the Club Lounge which was a lovely addition to our stay. We also used the leisure centre which was clean and another luxury during our stay. Nothing!
The cleanliness of the room and the comfort of the bed
hotel very comfortable staff friendly excellent breakfast someone had clearly been smoking in the room we were originally given but as soon as we reported this there was no problem in changing to another room
The staff were friendly, helpful and customer focussed, I received a phone call prior to my arrival to check on my arrival time for the purpose of placing a bottle of champagne in my room, very good service.
It was relaxed but luxurious!
When i arrived i was given a Mini Suite at the price of a standard room
Hotel staff were very good and helped out by being flexible with our check in time .as we were attending a wedding ,they had the room ready early for us .
The general aresa were very good and so were the staff As the Hotel is 4 Star I consider hat the bedromms and the bathroom in particular were very poor. In fact probably no better than a Premier Travel Inn. I have stayed in a lot of Hotels of all shapes and sizes
Excellent service and comfortable room Extractor fan did not work efficiently in the bathroom. Noisy pipework carrying noise through early in the morning
staff very friendly bar was very exspensive and no atmosphere at all and the 'superior' room did nothing to warrant its name
'Quiet and friendly' really meant what it said. We were there for a difficult hospital appointment, and nothing in our stay made the occasion more difficult. We felt cared for. We only had one pillow each, though extras were delivered speedily when requested.
The room The food - The dinner buffet looked like it had been there for hours and the meat of the day - lamb roast looked evn worse. I eat from the menu but not 100%
Very good breakfast. Even including Black pudding! Plus even though check in was supposed to be 3pm, was able to check in at 12:45pm - good job as the wedding I was going to was at 2pm!
The room itself was good and spacious, the bed was large and comfortable, and the location of the hotel was only 2 minutes from the relatives we came to visit. Minor points: Room was for two people but hospitality tray items were barely sufficient for one. We both like a bedtime chocolate - one sachet isn't good enough. I know one can ask for more but one shouldn't have to! Also toilet roll holder should be easily reachable from toilet and not where it will get dripped on from handbasin.
Room, staff and services
Food available late - well I was late and therefore it was limited but to 11pm and then a few things after - sandwiches mainly. As the Anvil Concert Hall, where I was going is next to the shopping arcade I feel they think you have food but not so because the concerts do not begin until 745 and this was ended at 1030pm. By the time I reached the hotel some miles out, it was after 11pm. I was lucky in that I got a double room on booking because I was a late booker, also this was at a much lower rate that normal. Some of the things on the room service menu could have been offered all the time, I think this as what was available was. as far as cooking, heating, etc. just as simple to prepare. From the map it appears closed to town than it is. Had I stayed normally, the price would have been rather high, considering I did not need to use any of their spa, swimming pool facilities and the fact that, as I came by train and not car, it became more costly due to taxi fares (dearer here than London!). Not the hotel's fault but roadwork meant that it was an even longer journey round and about.
Everything was the way it's described. Ideal for my stay Maybe a mini fridge to keep cool drinks/Air conditioning
Good hotel staff and service
The room itself. The people are service / customer oriented and have excellent responses to customer queries.
The rooms were comfortable and clean. We had a reservation for a family room, we had very young children with us and arrived at the hotel late night, we also had an additional two adults, our hotel policy stated that in familiy rooms additonal adults could stay at 35 GBP per person, the hotel staff refused to give us this price and instead they charge us for an another room for a total of 199 GBP, our children were
The hotel still had a "new" feeling. The roads around the hotel were a bit confusing. GPS recommended.
i did not like any ! reception, house keeping , room seveses
Very comfortable room and first-rate pool/gym facilities. I was surprised to have to pay extra for a cup of hot chocolate when I was already paying 15 pounds for breakfast. Also paying for internet connection is surprising in a hotel like this (it's free at the Pentahotel). Given the location allow plenty of time to drive to/from the centre given the traffic in Reading!
the new environment and the nice bath, shower door tickets which don't work and are confusing
decoration and helpful staff very slow room service
the location and comfort staff did not have much idea of local facillities
Air conditioning in public areas which were airy and spacious. Hot bedroom. Reservation staff did not allocate room as per booking ie requested quiet twin bedded room and originally were given double but even the twin bedded room was over an evening wedding party.
staff very helfpul and polite very soft pillows
The weather The appalling staff
room size room needed decorating
The location was close to Newbury Races and polite and friendly staff. We requested the deluxe package but this was not in our room when we arrived and we had to request it. It also said mens magazines and a newspapers would be provided but we only got female magazines and we did not get the white company products it states we would receive either so not overly impressed! The room was also extremely hot.
The quiet area in which the hotel is situated. Also local to the function we were attending.
rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Hotel was immaculate. exceptional value for money
Spacious and immaculate room. The staff could've been a little more forthcoming.
The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, the room was quite spacious and luxurious. Heating was not working however we were given a mobile heating and also it would be helpful to inform or label how to gt hot water in the bathroom
Cocktails in Cerise, dinner at Forbury restaurant, enjoy the great rooms.
Friendly, helpful staff. Room design and useful features, particularly liked the CD/Video setup. Excellent breakfast. View from the room was uninspiring.
The friendliness of the staff was second to none as was the cocktail bar and restaurant. Unfortunately the fire in our room was not working which would have added to the already romantic atmosphere.
The hotel looks great, the suite looked fantastic! The design worked for us, it creates a relaxing, luxuriant feel. Dinner and breakfast at Cerise was wonderful, the staff in the restaurant superb! Even the music that came on automatically when you opened the door was excellent, I discovered a new sound to listen to. The suite with the copper bath in front of the fireplace is incredibly draughty. My wife thought the windows had been left open. In addition to that the fireplace was out of order and the staff didn't think it pertinent to tell us beforehand. A bit chilly for a bath really.
Peace and privacy No inhouse movie'S. Just a few selected D.V.D.s
Our stay at The Forbury was magical, a wonderful hotel, wonderful staff, beautiful rooms, I couldn't have wished for anything more!
free internet access, good food and staying in a place where staff take pride in where they work
I loved the style and theme of the hotel - Luxury throughtout It would have been nice to have a later check out and to have water availabe in the room - not part of the mini bar and a few more toiletries& extras such as dressing gown. Paid extra for the Superior Double Room but couldnt really see what I was paying for as we ended up staying in one of the rooms with disability asscess. This meant the room was bigger by deafult because of its purpose
The rooms was excellent as were the facilities in the hotel. The only disappointment was the dinner (see below). The main courses were not as good as we expected. The starters were terrific, a little large if anything, which led us to believe that the main course would be similar. Very disappointed with the main course. My partner expected more than one small potato.
Great service from staff Expensive bar
The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room was lovely and beautifully comfortable. Very relaxing decor throughout. The difficulty and time we had getting there and finding the hotel would prevent me from returning. We rang the hotel all morning for directions and parking availability but the phone was not answered. The hotel was very very warm and felt the mini bar facility of having to go down to reception seemed rather tacky. Disappointed if comparing with a stay at any Hotel du Vin.
The room was fantastic. Very nice bathroom too. The lighting in the brasserie was too low. Even at breakfast it was very dark.
professional staffs, design and tone of the hotel is unique. the whole hotel was quite dark. not enough light even in the room.
Friendly professional and relaxed atmosphere Breakfast charging top heavy for a colleague who only joined me for coffee. Should have been told he had to pay full buffet rate
I really like the decor of each hotel. The bedrooms are lovely & luxurious. The hotel location is also great for the town centre.
I thought the room was up to a high standard, very clean.
location, fitness center is ok old rooms, need refurbishing, balance quality versus price was not ok, to expensive for what you get
The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable. The hotel was quiet even though we were on the first floor i expected some noise. It was nice and relaxing. The Receptionist needs to be re trained. The girl we had i could almost understand her english, therefore delaying my checking in process. I found her to be quite ignorant and she rarely answered the phone when ringing from my room. The price of drinks and food in the hotel is very expensive.
Everything about the hotel was good. The only thing I would say is that the heating seems to be turned up quite high! Nothing.
no fridge/minibar in room and bed was uncomfortable and cot was unclean
A spacious room; good beds; nice bathroom We could have done with a fridge in the room. Breakfast was not included in the room rate and was very expensive to pay for in addition - more than £10 for continental.
very comfortable room at a very reasonable price. Fast checkout very convenient. our room was upstairs, there was no lift so we had to carry our luggage up 2 flights of stairs
Very quiet - peaceful bar a few noisy guests at a party. Nothing - all was OK
Convienient The room was dated and smelt musty. The lady receptionist when we left (checked out) was very rude, continued on the phone to room service although we were stood there for 5 minutes, didn't even acknowledge us!
It is conveniently situated in walking distance from the town and near the business park There was an appreciable gap between the door to the room and the floor. This meant that noise from the corridor was disturbing
Excellent staff, fast check-in. Mistakes during check-out.
all of the staff were absolutely delightful to deal with. The location on the banks of the river is superb General decoration 'tired' - needs renovation. Gave in a list of 5 'niggles' about the room we stayed in (cistern handle came loose in your hand, water stains on bathroom ceiling, sink taps did not function properly. Floor boards creaked badly in bathroom
The guy on reception was very friendly and helpful Noise from the traffic in the early hours
Have stayed here before, quiet hotel even though in the centre of Reading. Room was large with confortable bed. plenty of hot water, excellent shower. Not a 4*. Only basic TV channels. Buffet breakfast was only warm you had to ask for a fried egg which took a while to arrive. We went to the bar for a drink only to find it full of locals watching football. so we took our drinks to our room. A residents only bar is needed
Convenience as we were attending a local wedding Breakfast was very poor - white bread, poor marmalade, stewed coffee etc
The location was brilliant for the centre of Reading and it was a very attractive hotel, staff were helpful The breakfast was rubbish. It was self service. A lot of food had almost run out and it was cold and it was before 9 am
ideally located! great place to stay in.
Quaint and historic, yet the room was up to date and the internet connection was reliable. Be ready to carry your bags up and down a maze of stairs and halls.
I wasn't very impressed with the cooked breakfast
Location and friendly staff Nothing of note
Customer service was very good. The television in the courtyard was blarring out about the football; it was turned off when I asked for it to be. Being an old building the floor sloped badly in my room and there was no heating in the bathroom. My single room was small and for £89 a night it wasn't good value. On top of that I had to pay £7+ for broadband connection. No wifi in the room.
Friendly staff, clean comfortable room, wonderful huge bath! No lift, but staff helped with luggage
The staff were attentive but unobtrusive
The whole experience of staying in this hotel was fantastic. In particular the restaurant was well worth the visit and a great experience for food lovers!
Room service food was great, their kitchen is first class.
Ambiance and quality of this hotel
The staff were very friendly and it was a definate 5* hotel
High thread-count bedsheets, great food and service. Plenty of art & sculpture about the place. Superb wine list. More attention should be paid to the quality of espresso coffee. Room decor could perhaps be more adventurous.
We stayed in one of the Suites. It was very comfortable, spacious and well appointed. However this is exactly what one expects for the price and was well up to our expectations.
A top class hotel with very good facilities
The hotel and its facilities were excellent, yes dining was expensive but for a special occasion it would be difficult to beat. Thought the cooked breakfast was very overpriced
I stayed during a business trip having got a £99 rate from Booking.com (versus the usual £309 rack rate). The hotel isn't really a business hotel - WiFi is extra and cellphone reception on at least O2 and Orange vitually non-existent. Breakfast is £15 extra (or £20 if you want a hot dish). Dinner is not within a low business budget - however ... Its a great hotel! The spa is especially relaxing (though the pool is not designed for laps - being circular). Food is fantastic. Rooms are very large and comfortable.
Any issues was resolved straight away I had to request dressing gowns and table goods which was in the package
grounds were beautiful staff hardly spoke english, air cond not cool enough.
The surrounding were nice, the facilities were good too. I was very upset by the fact that when I turned up to the hotel I was highly embarrassed when they told me they never had a reservation for me even when I gave them a reference number and they contacted you, I had to pay for another room. This was infront of a friend of mine and was highly embarrasing for me. The pillor on the bed had some sort of stain on it as though it had been used previously
I only stayed overnight on business, so used only a few of the hotel facilities. The leisure facility looked good
Nice Hotel friendly staff
Good clean premises. Efficient and courteous service. Recommended.
We specifically asked for a non smoking room but there was evidence of smoking smells in the rooms, probably in the furnishings and this was very unpleasant.
The surroundings were beautiful and very peaceful. An observation - the shower over the bath was functional but a bit dated and not in keeping with the other marvellous room facilities. I also felt that there could have been more information about amenities - laundry service (if any), surrounding churches, doctors, pharmacies.
Location, comfort, amenities Toilet did not work efficiently - but quickly rectified.
flexibility and helpfulness of staff
convenient to all amenities in the town, reception staff friendly we stayed for 3 nights and the room was only cleaned once
The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for me as I was visiting a sick friend in Basingstoke and they 'lifted my spirits' the atmosphere in general was good. The hotel was exceptionally handy to the railway station and the bus station and of course the shopping centre. The double glazed window was not sealed and the noise from people outside was a bit irritating, my room was over the front entrance. Traffic noise was also noticeable. The room was therefore a bit on the chilly side due to the window not closing properly and the heating did not appear to work. In general the hotel would need to be re-decorated, a lick of paint, just to take that 'worn' look off it. Though the rooms I must say were spotless.
Staff very friendly. very convenient for shops and theatre The breakfast. not enough food coming out only appeared in dribs & drabs so had to keep getting up. The scrambled egg was not only cold it tasted like powdered egg.
The attitude of the staff
All the staff we met, on reception, bar/restaurant and cleaning staff were all friendly and polite. Also, we came for the weekend to do all our Christmas shopping, so the location, right opposite the Festival Centre, was excellent for our purposes. If there was any criticism it would only be that the bathroom was a bit dated and the grout and fittings etc looked a bit shabby and old. It was very clean though.
The location was excellent as was the breakfast. Reception staff and bar staff very friendly Having upgraded the room, I was dissapointed that it was a lower standard than I would have expected, fairly basic, nothing special.
Convenience to Basingstoke town centre
bedding old fashioned
Nothing good to say about this Hotel it was not a memorable experience. I am going to write a letter of complaint. Hotel staff rude, and not welcoming apart from hotel manager. B/f service was poor and tables dirty. Room had no coffee or tea making facilites forcing you to order a drink from the bar. Room was shabby, ie bedroom curtains and shower curtains were falling down. Shower head was full of limescale and had not been maintained for sometime. Bed spreads and blankets were stained.......yuk!. Hair dryer broken. Meals available were poor and standard of food was poor for a resturant of three stars. Room service availability was poor ie phone was not answered. The Hotel was of a shabby standard all round and was extremely difficult to find in terms of Car Parking. Difficult to get answer from Hotel for directions as postcode on Website wrong.
Staff responses to problems.
bed good, shower good room like a bedsit
Large comfortable room
There was nothing to like. On arrival, there was total chaos at reception for some considerable time, mainly due to double bookings and rooms not being ready. The receptionist who was on at approx 1800 was absolutely fantastic under the circumstances Room was poor, facilities poor, hotel very dowdy. The hotel was purely chosen for its location and I will not be staying there again. It was very expensive for the offer provided.
In fact the hotel was disappointing expectations, I have changed my room twice, first room the problem was the emergency door of hotel was inside my room and it was broken, second room the problem was heaters, doesn't worke.
Comfortable beds. Very good value for money. Fairly central to where we needed to go for wedding venue. Quite a lot of slamming of doors, but on the whole no problems
Room was comfortable and of a reasonable size. Decor clean and tidy; staff friendly and polite. T.V was a little bit dodgey, colour kept going from time to time. not made aware of room suppliment.
The staff at the Comfort Inn were all very good, room was an ok size and clean
good sized rooms, clean, and the windows opened!! Wireless was very flaky, and they put me in a room without it at firts, even though I asked specifically.
Good parking facilities, friendly staff, near to shops/restaurants No - all satisfactory
Free Internet access in lounge/bar area Easy parking
