Nice friendly hotel with good food. Very clean and spacious. Would stay again. Beautiful countryside views. no
Excellent location, friendly staff, good food.
The friendliness of the staff and comfortable atmosphere
Very central for waking in Wales
It was obvious on arrival that we had made an excellent choice of Hotel our room was as described the views where fantastic. Both the Owners who are involved heavilly in the running and managing the hotel could not do to much for you. The food was also excellent with a sustantial Menu and Daily Specials board to choose from. Both my Wife and i feel that the Hotel is Excellent value for money and would recommend to anyone reading this review 10/10 this being our opinion others may differ keep it up Only that the stay wasn't for long enough
Beutiful, quiet location.
Owners very friendly and couldn't do enough for you
Suited our requirements very well. Hotel staff very accomodating and friendly
Sight seeing, and concert
Very friendly and helpful staff with good food supplied even when not included on the menu small amount of traffic noise and the low flying jets although this was made apparent when booking lack of electric power point in bathroom for shavers etc
The location was great - overlooking a lake Room was too small, bed was too small and uncomfortable. bathroom was long overdue for a refurbishment. Restaurant was not very pleasant, breakfast was unimpressive. Glad we didn't book in foir an evening meal there
We have stayed at this hotel a number of times. Fabulous location with stunning lake and mountain views. Excellent food. Service collapsed when resteraunt was two thirds full. We were seated for dinner at 9.15 having booked for 8. Next day it took an hour to get through breakfast. Hopefully a one off glitch and wouldn't stop us returning
The location is absolutely fantastic! The view is breath taking wherever you look. Perfect if you want to get away from busy life and charge your batteries. The additional bed which was requested when booking didn't arrive till late in the evening when kids were tired and wanted to go to sleep.
Beautiful location. Public rooms very light and airy. Delicious freshly cooked breakfast. We were greeted with Welsh scones and fresh milk on arrival - a nice touch. The room was a very small double and in order to make some room to place the overnight bag (yes it was that small) I had to move a chair and it was obvious that funiture hadn't been moved, to clean behind, for a long time. Ditto areas in the bathroom. Our main gripe was that there was a large velux skylight, in the sloping roof, with no blinds fitted, hence we were greeted by the dawn at 4.30am!!!
good room with view of the lake in front of the hotel. very quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
Excellentl location, pleasant efficient staff, wonderful food with wide choice of menu.
Excellent food very helpful friendly staff None noted
Beatiful room with beautiful view None
Position by lake friendliness of staff Cost of evening meal with no choice but three courses. No maps of area or walks available No information on local road closure which meant vey long detour
Lovely welcome, friendly staff. Very helpful man in the fishery - thankyou
Room & view Very cramped bathroom. Proprietor having a heated argument with a another guest in public, this should have happened behind closed doors.
The decor was lovely and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. the bed was extremely hard and the gap between the bed and the chest of drawers was tight and I bumped my hip.
Location. It is right on the seafront and walking distancve to the centre Definitely not value for money. I found the room very small. Specially the room I was in. Very low celing. Definitly not a 3 star hotel.
New Accomodation The ensuite was a bit small
location Overpriced, rooms dirty, no person on desk at night.
Excellent staff. Good location. The room was very small even though the bathroom was big. The view was a disappointment: backyard.
We visited our daughter who is at the university and our accommodation was very close to her flat in Alexandra Halls. Our room was very comfortable and we enjoyed having our morning tea facing the sea.
An excellent breakfast. web site states fluffy white towels and robes - towels were white but hard and no robes a bit disappointing. I'm afraid I do tend to believe what is stated on web sites.
I arrived very late (0.45 am) and appropriate arrangements were made for my arrival. Member of staff who looked after me was excellent - friendly and welcoming. Room very good - I had everything that I needed. I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a good quality and comfortable weekend or holidya.
Very Comfortable and warm on a very cold night -6c on seafront
Hearing the waves crashing near by
Smart Guest Lounge and breakfast area, and very pleasant friendly staff.
Great breakfast, helpful staff, nice rooms. Noisy at night if in front room
Everything was good. The staff, the room and breakfast were all great.
Ample breakfast good toiletries and towels, handy for town centre and also beach half mile from University
Close to town center good breakfast Wi-fi did not work I chose this hotel because it said that it had wi-fi
A nice room with ensuite and in the city centre Small car park at back of Hotel
Well maintained room, and very nice breakfast. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Nice people. Nice room. And a radio! Limited tv channels (3) and no remote control
Very peaceful and comfortable, well situated with a free car park Internet died soon after arrival and was not restored although I suspect this was not the hotel's fault
An old-fashoined family hotel in a beautiful location so much better than the usual corporate image
One hour to have dinner, and it was not good...
The friendliness of the staff and the sound of the waterfall in the background. The walk to the waterfalls was well worth the time, effort and money. TV stations were lacking, but you don't necessarily go there for the TV.
Attractive hotel in beautiful setting. Main restaurant was a bit "over the top" but the bar/tearoom menu was adequate in its place.
We had a great time. Nice location, nice bar and food. Very good value.
Hotel roomm Poor meal at lunchtime
Location & Price Dining facilities and uncontolled heating
Staff were very friendly .
Very Old world. Just my style. The room was great. Food was great. The beer was great. and the welsh Malt whiskey was a real find. Just a little over priced, £127 for the Duke of Newcastle suite. The bathroom needs Sprucing up a bit.
Very large, comfortable, clean room. Friendly and efficient staff. Real ale in the bar. Great breakfast. The corridors look a little worn around the edges. No mobile phone reeption
The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpfull. The surroundings were outstanding
Great Location and a Hearty Breakfast
The accommodation was comfortable clean and airy with a view over the mountains. It was a brilliant weekend and I would reccommend it to anyone. The proprietors were very helpful and friendly as were the staff who waited on us in the dining room. The food was very tasty and nicely cooked and was served to us by a very friendly lady. We had a very enjoyable weekend.
convenient location no proper coffee, limited breakfast menu - only tinned grapefruit & no fresh fruit, breakfast not possible before 8 am
The manager was friendly and helpful. The ensuite shower was very good. Lovely setting. The hotel was very damp. The bed was small and uncomfortable and the rooms were dated. The bedroom was also damp. The ensuite was small and the toilet was possibly 90cm from the bed (although it was possible to shut the ensuite door) which wasn't ideal.
Loved my room over looking the river & countryside, great to hear the birds tweet and the sheep barrrr in a morning. Had a nice evening meal and a few beers in the bar! Great for families and couples or like me on your own :-)
Location. Owner friendly. Generally good facilities. Room needs upgrading - bathroom a bit small. Old style tv in room [and remote faulty] - not modern flat screen. Unable to access room until after 3pm. Room rate possibly a bit high. Not sure why notice states to return room key if you go out.
Friendly informal service. Wonderful location. Excellent room
Room was very nice and bath and shower was lovely. Food excellent
Breakfast; friendliness Not clean enough: poor quality of fitments/room.
Proprietor was friendly and ameniable and very helpful when we complained. The breakfasts were good. Free Broadband. Centrally located. Good parking. We stayed in the annexed portion - Musty Smell in House -In Room Mismatched dated decor - No cupboard for clothes and no small fridge supplied - no bedside lamps - television remote dodgy - television minute and set very high on the wall- Bathrooms (not en suite) - Shared but Not cleaned on a daily basis.. only marginal improvement after complaints
Really lovely owners, good breakfast, good location. Could do with a bit of a facelift, quite expensive (even for non-en- suite, off-season).
The hosts were sweet and helpful The information about parking was not correct.
Very friendly owners, excellent breakfast, very close to all that Aber has to offer. Parking! If you are lucky you may get within 100 yards (maybe even outside at weekends) - if you're unlucky you may not be able to park anywhere near close!
Extremely friendly and helpful family run hotel, well placed for town and seafront.
They were happy to put up an extra guest with only a small charge for breakfast. Shared toilet facility
Nothing too much trouble for the guests, both by facilities and information. Very pleasant attitude and attention. Breakfasts extremely enjoyable.
Cheap and cheerful but clean and efficient with friendly and helpful staff. None.
Very nice. Friendly and helpful.
The friendliness of the family who run it. The atmosphere in the bar at night. My room was officially a double, it would have been very cramped for two people, the ensuite was extremely minimal.
The staff as owners were excellent, nothing appeared to be too much trouble for them. The relaxed atmosphere in the lounge bar with good food, and a lovely log fire was very welcome indeed on the cold night of our arrival. The breakfast served in the morning was well prepared and freshly cooked with superb views from the dining room. Would recommend this Hotel and would certainly stay there again..
Staff very friendly
Good value for the money & freindly staff.
Fantastic view of mountains from our room and the dining room, and a view of the waterfall from the garden. Good, wholesome, home-cooked food and friendly staff. There was a faint smell of stale cooking in the bar area.
proprietor very friendly Our room very pokey with only shower facilities, a bit of a disappointment after a long drive. The bed was a small double and felt like straw and decor was outdated.
Nice family run hotel where the owners and staff couldn't do enough for you. Highly recommend the steak and chips on the menu - it's excellent! Great little hotel if you need to visit Aber University.
A very friendly welcome beautiful waterfall at end of garden and Red Kites
Wonderful location on the seafront and the staff, particularly the receptionists and the barman were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the hotel is very dated and pretty tatty (most of the decor circa 1980 I would imagine) and is badly in need of a major facelift. Food was okish (just about), but the kitchen/service did not seem well organised (wrong food delivered and it took an very long time to come)- shame as the hotel has great potential and has obviously seen better days.
The view of the sea from our bedroom window. Room was tired and in need of redecoration
my sea view room no lift we were on the 3rd floor no offer of help with luggage
An excellent breakfast and very helpful staff throughout our stay, No complaints at all.
nice warm atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent breakfast
Helpful, polite, happy staff and excellent food
Breakfast Beds uncomfortable; no lift ; room given was a single not twin and had to switch; room overpriced;drinks in bar overpriced
Location, room and pleasant staff Not very good parking facilities
The welcome and overall the way all staff treated us, sevice food all excellent, if in the area would book at this hotel
Pleasant helpful staff.
Food ,Room Facilities
We had large, comfortable, clean rooms and a very good, prompt breakfast
I liked the spacious rooms, especially as I am severely disabled. I was upset at the reception that I was told that I had not paid my bill, & held up by 15 mins as he ignored us by continuing with another phone call. Very poor service in the bar,
The room was well equipped as it had a microwave, fridge and tv with full freeview channels. The rooms were clean and fully serviced for our arrival but one was not touched thereafter. As we were we only staying 2 nights, it was not a major problem.
Large clean and well equipped rooms. thoughtful and helpful staff Use of leisure facilities Decent food , very reasonable price.
many things, very quite location, staff very good , i also have booked to go back to this hotel next month pool and gym should have been inc in costings
Room was warm, large, clean & comfortable. Great power shower.Pool was warm too Restaurant was not open so had to eat in the bar. Not great! Bar staff were helpful but vague & had little idea of how to treat guests. Food was adequate - plenty of it but bland. Breakfast was a quiet affair. Ok for cooked breakfast eaters.Coissants were warm tho & lovely. Fresh fruit & cereal - again, just looked plain and rather boring. Room was in a block - the pool, bar, reception was across the car park. ok if not raining or worse! Asked for a newspaper but was told there were none, not even at Reception. Found some magazines- some dated 2003!.a golfing place then. a place for those looking for walking in the valleys. Not a great place to stay if one has to look reasonable the next morning for work. Oh & no mob signal... at all!
Staff were pleasant and helpful and the food was good Hotel not one i would normally chose because all other hotels in main town were booked up. However, if i was looking for a golfing trip this would be ideal. Would also be ideal for family base if wanting to have days out.
Quiet and peaceful, nice big room with sofa and some kitchen facilities - would be ideal for a long stay. Cheap and cheerful pub style food which was good value. Reasonable bar prices. Good cooked breakfast. It is a caravan holiday village, with hotel chalets, set up with golf in mind. I am a business traveller. There is no phone in the rooms, no mobile phone signal at all, nowhere to plug in a laptop, breakfast isn't until 8.30(!) and the pool isn't available until 10am for a morning swim. Great for golfers and holiday makers but not the right place for a working person staying one night.
That it was central Paying for a de-lux room, which I didn't really feel was on par with a de-luxe room.
very friendly, lovely bistro good budget accomodation. rooms basic but clean and comfortable quite noisy at night as over bar. glare from hotel front sign was too bright at night!
friendly staff, excellent restaurant+ breakfast, great location, large room no lift, rooms could be cleaned better
the cooked breakfast could of been of better quality
The friendliness of staff, location of hotel, excellent breakfast, comfortable room
I felt like there was a party in my room - people(students I believe) loud until the early hours stood outside the hotel socialising/smoking etc meant I did not get a godo night's sleep and would put me off booking to stay here again.
The staff were very pleasant to deal with and the room itself was very comfortable.
The room was fine and ckean. The bed was really terrible.
I chose it because I had stayed there before. It is conveniently situated to all amenities, modern in style, comfortable rooms, good food and service and not ostentatious. On the one night it was students night. Lots of young noisy students enjoying themselves. however, they paid scant regard to those who were not young and relaxing and enjoying a bar meal.
Overall good aaa
Good location, room with sea view, good breakfast, comfortable room, very friendly staff. No lift available for people with disability.
Clean well presented room, good temperature, well laid out. None
We really enjoyed our stay the room was well furnished very clean and comfortable and we had a superb breakfast .I would recommend it to my friends & family nothing everything was excellent
The sea views Nothing
Great location and host. Fabulous breakfast. Large comfortable bed. Large shower. Poor choice of carpet in hall, stairway and room. Shows dirt too easily. Our room (room 2) did not have a window which we could open for ventilation. We had a fire escape door which could be opened, but I would not feel secure leaving it open while we slept.
Excellent rooms, clean and fresh, very spacious. Lovely clean and modern bathroom with powerful shower.Fantastic breakfast ,cooked to order and served to the table. No bad points
Excellent in all aspects. Was far above my expectation. Stayed there with my daughter and her opinion was the same as mine. Everything in the bedroom was a+ Breakfast was excellent. Car parking very handy Not one bad point
Even though we had booked the last room and knew it would be small, it was especially clean and comfortable...good night sleep and the bathroom was simple but functional and bright. The breakfast was excellent. The parking was easy. The dinner....superb. Fresh fish simply cooked and an excellent host in Ian and his wait staff. Would love to stay again. Aberdovey is a perfect weekend escape to mountain and sea and not too far to drive from the Midlands and to return home refreshed.
The room was very cute, and they had a nice selection of tea. The staff were very helpful. I had hoped for a shower, but they only had a bath, so wasking my hair was tricky.
Quiet and lovely breakfast. Not having en-suit.
A very warm welcome from owner on arrival and a willingness to ensure that my stay was enjoyable.
Welcoming upon arrival. Facilities were basic but clean. Good breakfast in pleasant breakfast room. Minimal privacy as rooms had thin walls and no carpets.
We had a most comfortable bed and, apart from the sounds of animals and birds, noise was at an absolute minimum. The outside appearance was unwelcoming and parking is a great problem. Breakfast left a lot to be desired.
The view of the sea from the bar.Relaxed atmosphere at the hotel.Good service with friendly staff. Could do with a little refiurbishment.
good location definately in need of a refit
The staff were most helpful The bathroom was adequate
Hotel staff made an effort to find a vegetarian breakfast option. Breakfast was excellent. Bedding was spotlessly clean and beds comfortable. Spectacular view. Good sized rom. Room was shabby with unmatching furniture. Carpet in bathroom with stains around toilet. Room was boiling hot and we couldn't open the window or turn the radiator down. The spotless bedding to replace ours was left on the grubby carpet outside our room. Whole room needed some tlc. I was disappointed that after reading students receive 10% discount on a stay, (my daughter also stayed and is a student) when I enquired no-one was available to give me the discount.
Proximity to Aberystwyth's shops, pubs and restaurants. Recently recarpeted throughout - rooms, staircases and corridors. Fantastic panoramic views of Cardigan Bay from front rooms. Breakfasts. Friendly, approachable staff. As mentioned, it has been recarpeted throughout, but a lick of paint here and there wouldn't go amiss.
The room was clean and was big enough not to get under each others feet. The views whilst sat in the window were very pleaseant. looking out over the bay The breakfast was very nice but was a bit early for a relaxing weekend away, latest time was 08.45
The view from the bedrooms was superb and the bedding was spotless. The carpets were dirty and it is not appropriate to have carpeting in a bathroom. Needs to be ripped out. There was also nowhere to hang up towels
the view of the sea from the bedroom breakfast in the bar was basic I expected better as the bar meals were excellent
Close to the sea/town and surprisingly quiet given that there is a busy pub on the ground floor. Room allocated was pleasantly large with decent light and a very comfortable bed. Linen/towels perfectly clean, breakfast was freshly cooked and lovely. Staff encountered were all very friendly. Room, whilst clean, was a little tatty but still perfectly functional. To be fair I didn't pay for luxury and what I got was well worth the money.
The location Peope hanging around the entrance smoking. The reception being part of the pub counter, this would be better seperate.
Good location and a helpful staff Parking was a pain
Lovely room and very friendly staff. My only compaint was that I was only allowed to use the iron in the dinind room. Other than that eveything was excellent.
Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
Right near to the beach and sea view from the bed. Private car park. Dated decor.
Large comfortable room with an excellent view. Friendly accomadating staff
Very comfortable beds, attentive staff, good cooked breakfast
Beautiful view. Very comfortable room. Excellent breakfast with very efficient and friendly service.
Very friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, very nice breakfast. Definitely recommended.
although basic very clean and tidy
Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and the breakfast was superb!
Warm and comfortable; friendly staff. Too much noise during the night on Saturday (20th November).
I liked the fact there was a late check-in facility, the cleanliness, and the breakfast was perfect. A very pleasant owner. The only down-sde was the poor mobile network availability. However it added to the serenity of the location.
Very friendly bed and breakfast in a lovely location. Handy for the University, town and the lovely beaches along this part of the Welsh coast.
The staff were excellent and the food was very good. Despite the fact there was a lot of redecorating and structural work going on during our visit we really had a pleasant stay.
Great breakfast and room clean and comfortable Room was in annex and couldn't get internet connection, annoying as had lots of work to do and had to use lounge in hotel instead. Couldn't control heating
Beautiful location and enjoyed being in the cottage room away from main hotel. Room was well presented and loved the Teddy (although did not bring him home!). Breakfast was excellent, beautfual views and good food. Ample parking. Absence of staff - getting served in the bar was a lengthy process. TV in our room did not work continually, would suggest investing in some good satellite dishes or taking TV out of room as frustrating. Did not dine as quite limited menu. Pricey.
room and location wedding party took over bar and restaurant on one night
A comfortable stay in a countryside hotel with excellent dining facilities and very attentive and friendly staff Some minor refurbishment was underway to upgrade the hotel but this did not spoil our stay
The hotel had nice views There was no tv ariel only an indoor one and was poor reception, shower was hard to operate, and shower room in need of redecorating, and there was very few people there at that time, expensive
Wonderful Staff...excellent food...tranquil setting in the countryside..a real pleasuer.
It was clean, comfortable and the staff were fantastic! Food was also excellent. Nothing.
the room, the view and the food
food was consistently good. Waitresses very efficient The two lounges did not seem to work.
great service in the resturant free internet was not working throughout stay despite numerous reminders
Sea view, relaxed and friendly staff, good amenities and breakfast. Initially didn't have a sea view but staff provided a different room with no difficulty.
By far the finest hotel we stayed in on our trip to Wales. The location and view were excellent. Probably the Grandest hotel 50 years ago and still that way today.
Location close to town centre and on the sea front.
Restaurant Food and Service excellent. Good portions and happy waitress. Lavatory not cleaned properly. Entrance to shower cubicle a little small for my stature.
Very clean and looked like the decor had been recently updated. Fantasitc view of the prom and beach from the room. Staff were courteous and efficient, the check in was simple and straight forward. The breakfast provided in the price was well cooked and plentyful. Nothing serious to mention.
The seaside location and the friendly staff who went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful at all times. Bi-lingual staff to reflect the Welsh Culture.
Lovevely welcoming hotel friendly staff good food you could not ask for more None
Hotel was well situated though room could have done with some tlc it was clean though Dined in restaurant one night food was good but service a bit chaotic as not enough staff on wouldn't go there again but just didn't like Aberystwyth
Friendly and welcoming staff Clean and comfortable stay Brilliant seaview from room Private parking
Freshly cooked, quality food. Friendly staff who looked after us. Comfy, relaxing atmosphere.Would recommend this guesthouse and would go again. Shower temparature varied wildly.
The room was clean and spacious. It was well located close to town, which is what we wanted as dropping our daughter off to Uni. We could take our dog, which was great. Breakfast was very good.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean and well maintained.
The overall level of accommodation and equipment of the room was excellent. The restaurant facilities and the quality and choice of food both in the evening and for breakfast could not be faulted. There were no bad points
unable to comment positively. it wasn't really ready for guests, a work in progress of improvements i think. The man who dealt with us at reception and at breakfast had very poor communication skills.
Clean and friendly. First class breakfast None
Friendly welcome Excellent breakfast Very peaceful
Very friendly and clean, we will deffinately stay again. Fabulous breakfast!
Food was amazing, and fairly well priced! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy, the setting and location were great, the access was easy, ample parking, the room was well equipped too. The view from our room over looked a messy storage area at the back of hotel. The receptionist wasn't particularly as tidy as you'd expect in a 4-star hotel. Some aspects of the hotel were in disrepair (sign)etc.
The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful, and it was good value for money. The outside of the hotel was a bit of a mess in some areas (the areas just off the car park, and towards to side and rear of the hotel, so the external visual impact didn't do justice to an otherwise really nice place). I couldn't get the TV to work, and there weren't any instructions for it - and although the nights at this time of year are getting cold, I had to find the room heater switch and turn it on myself.
