Pros: great hospitality!!! great breakfast!!! great everything :)!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Make it worth your while to travel to this hard to get to town. You will not be disappointed.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast, renovated spacious rooms. Nice roof terasse and well located in the village.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Marvellous place to stay. Everything is so wonderful, from welcoming, room, breakfast, support during the stay and the 'say goodbye'. You can also easily park your car at a place at 2' walking, and with a superb view :-).
Cons: You better talk a bit of Italian, but actually it's part of the charm of this location. Use google-translater at your mobile device, they also do that by the way :-). And we stayed for 3 nights, don't make the error of booking only one night, you will really regret it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly staff, fantastic location, great breakfast. There is a free parking not far from the hotel. Clean and comfortable bedroom. Fantastic bed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were very warmly welcomed by the owner, ROBERTO. He gave us a lot of precious information about what to visit in the small town. The hotel is situated in the heart of the old town, in a historic building beautifully renovated until the last detail. Everything is made with heart and passion. You can take a apero on the small roof terrace with a great view. The hotel is perfectly clean and offers a excellent breakfast. The stay in this gorgeous place was an unforgettable experience for us.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location, breakfast and helpful staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We have been traveling by bicycle in southern Italy for the past six weeks, staying in hotels, B&B’s and apartments. Many have been excellent, but Albergo Merua is our favorite. It’s a very nice facility - clean, modern, serving an excellent breakfast - but what really sets it apart is its staff. Our host Roberto, although he speaks almost no English and I almost no Italian, was exceptionally good natured, informative and helpful Oh, and by the way: Morano Calabro itself is amazing.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation at La Sentinella was absolutely wonderful. I have stayed in many B and Bs in Europe and this was undoubtedly one of the best. The rooms were clean and well presented and the breakfast was second to none. I really mean that! Marina is the best hostess one could ever wish for. Her cooking and breakfasts are ‘to die for’. In addition, Civita is a lovely village nestled in the mountains and adjacent to a spectacular gorge. We learned so much historically and culturally, and this proved to be an added bonus. Coupled to which there are some good restaurants close to La Sentinella. If I could, I would award 11 out of 10. Marina, thank you so much for making our visit so wonderful.
Cons: Nothing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast!!!

9.3 Excellent
Pros: New and fresh. Clean and comfortable. The hosts are very nice and pleasant to deal with. Positive experience of our one-night stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very Nice room.
Cons: Streets to reach hôtel very thin in village.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What warm and friendly people
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful and the bathroom was too. Large room with Juliet style balcony. The pillows were a little flat if I was being picky but the host was fabulous and the situation very pleasant, easy accessibility to other villages, stunning views and people in the village very friendly. The roads around the villages are pretty but narrow and although the local zip around them easily they were challenging for us. Well worth the effort though. GPS navigation is not necessarily accurate on telling which exit to take. The highway goes right into the town so be careful to check the route if you don’t like tight corners that are at high elevation. Either route will get you there eventually.
Cons: There was very little to moan about here. It was perfect for us. There was a lovely restaurant in the village recommended by the host. Simple but good. The second night we had a fabulous pizza just around the corner from the first.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly host, very nice room, exellent bathroom...
Cons: poore english or other foreign language
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was spotless. Beautifully finished, the hosts were fantastic... Really really friendly and helpful! The free breakfast was amazing. This place is one of the nicest places I've been to. It's a minute from the motorway, it's next to a beautiful national park. You should all visit!
Cons: Everything was perfect. There's not alot of room for cars, but it's in an old old village and my car was parked outside perfectly all night!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Two big and brand new rooms booked, very very clean and spacious, even the toilet was big. Very kind staff (we arrived a bit late, after midnight, but were welcomed without problems). Homemade sweeties (with homemade jam) were great :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The hosts took time out to show us the town and took us to a museum. Then she offered to drive us to restaurant and pick us up even though we had a car. Amazing hosts
Cons: Nothing. Everything was superb
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Angelo and Raffael who run the business were very helpful and they were able to be contacted if need be. Beautiful apartment with amenities being 1st class. Good position. As in most Italian towns the streets are narrow but you can drive to and find the apartment quite easily. There is a small supermarket near the Greek Orthodox Church and a couple of restaurants within walking distance.
Cons: Leaving

The hosts can provide information about guided tours in the surrounding mountains, including rafting, horse riding, and cross-country skiing activities. Le Chalet del Pollino is 35 km from Lauria and 40 minutes’ drive from Castrovillari.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The host was charming and very helpful. He offered us coffee when we arrived and pointed out a trattoria down the street for dinner which was great. The layout of the B&B is very comfortable, with 4 rooms, a kitchen and communal area with fireplace. It was of course very quiet because it is up high on the hillside. This is the only time I have rated a property as exceeding my expectations. It was great.
Cons: I do not have any complaints. We had a little trouble finding it, but that may have been our mistake in navigation. The people in Rotonda were helpful getting us there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a lovely location with friendly hosts who made our stay very comfortable. Convenient for walking in the national park of Pollino.
Cons: Not enough information about the area available. Language was a bit of an issue a bit both ways as we don't speak Italian.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a lovely host and a lovely stay.
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Il Borgo Ospitale - Albergo Diffuso in Rotonda, you'll be 1 minutes by foot from Pollino National Park. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location near the town square & restaurants. Very quiet & modern. Staff were very helpful with information about the area & things to do.
Cons: Bed was comfortable, however better pillows would help with sleeping.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location.
Cons: Room was very hot. No air conditioning in the rooms.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Spa facilities superb with nice extra treatments available. Staff all very friendly and helpfull. Breakfast excellent. Wifi acceptable. Great value for money
Cons: The only niggle was that the heating was excessive and the room had been pre-heated to a high temp so despite turning right off and opening everything it remained hot all night long.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful stay in Rotonda, very good position for Pollino National Park. The staff was very helpful, our room was comfortable.
Cons: Restaurant not on the same level as the hotel, but excellent other food options nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I think it is the best hotel in rotonda hands down. Perfect location in front of the piazza, new, clean and friendly staff. You can also get tours to the Polino National Park. Pino is a true expert who can take you there and tell you about all of those details only a local can know.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel in restored building. Extremely helpful staff. Good breakfast
Cons: Wifi was weak
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good starting point for hiking and rafting and nice restaurants near by in particular Da Peppe.
Cons: Just for information for families travelling with children. The Spa shown in the pictures from the hotel is for adults only.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was really well done, quite swish, and had a fab shower. The breakfast was lovely, with a proper pot of tea available (a rarity in Italy!). We ate a couple of nights at the restaurant linked to the hotel and the food was excellent. You have to have your wits about you as there wasn't a written menu so you need to be able to decipher rapid Italian! The staff were very helpful though. We also booked the spa, which is in a separate location but close to the hotel. The spa was €20 each for 2 hours and was utterly gorgeous. It's worth doing if only for the slightly hairy minivan ride up the hill to get you there...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The perfect staff, amazing place and the best restaurant

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous property Lovely family run B and B with amazing food and wine Great pool and grounds with spectacular views
7.5 Good
Pros: Claudia and her daughter were very welcoming indeed. We arrived late but were treated to a lovely home dinner with farm produce and wine. A great start on our journey back up to Naples. Big grounds in this traditional family owned farm, with great views, which is undergoing ongoing renovation.
Cons: The only downside was a surprise charge - we felt excessive - for room-cleaning after our dogs. Having asked beforehand, we were not told until the bill arrived that a charge would apply for disinfectant cleaning. If we had known before hand we would have decided otherwise. After all the room was very small. On balance however, if you don't have pets then this is a very welcoming place to stay and Claudia is very nice indeed.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is the real deal - a country town of 3-400 inhabitants who speak beautiful Italian and interact as if they are one family, one team, helping each other out. We arrived from San Costantino Albanese on a mountain road that makes even the locals hold their breath and cross fingers they won’t have to turn around at some point because the road has fallen away. (There is a more sane approach but we weren’t buying it). Our host Antonio couldn’t meet us but his colleague MariaGrazia did, and her friend Giulia. They made us very comfortable with appetizers and wine. Antonio arranged for Giovanni and Maria to drive us to their ostello for dinner, where Angela was waiting also. Giovanni is the owner and chef. He prepared wonderful antipasti typical for the region, cured meats, peperone crusche in several preparations, bruschetta, ecc. and pasta with funghi. Fabulous. Our host Antonio will come in the morning and after breakfast we’ll meet more people in this wonderful mountain town at the wifi hotspot where everyone gathers. Can’t wait. Yes, you want to speak Italian here! Yes, this is for adventurous tourists who like to rough it - weather can impact one’s experience. Next morning: Antonio made a beautiful breakfast for us. The scenery descending to the coast was amazing. Next few days: the memories are amazing of the uniqueness of place.
Cons: The place is cold in cold, wet weather, though the heaters were working all through the night. This is true in in the country in Calabria generally.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. It was low season when we stayed here, but our host arranged diner for us at 2 places that specially opened for us. Our contact person also recommended an easy hiking route that was a 10 minute ride by far.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My stay at Sant’Elia was excellent! The location is central and the rooms are cozy, with true Italian flavor! Breakfast was amazing and everything was freshly made from local farmers; you can really taste the tradition in every bite. Antonio the owner was helpful with everything; checking in was a breeze, and he even showed some of the local places to visit while staying there. Would highly recommend this b&b as it made my experience in south Italy unforgettable.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. Jacuzzi bath was a bonus. Sitting area outside, overlooking a pretty courtyard, was very pleasant. Breakfast was excellent. Home cooked pastries were varied and delicious. My omelette was very good. The onsite restaurant alone was worth the trip - typical Calabrian food, very well prepared from quality local produce.
Cons: A few miles from the motorway on windy roads, but well worth the detour.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were warmly greeted on arrival and the hospitality was first class for the duration of our stay. Our accommodation was clean, comfortable and loaded with amenities. Our Calabrian breakfast was excellent. The affiliated restaurant is fantastic - the best meal we had during our three weeks in Italy
Cons: No complaints. Everything was perfect.
6.3 Good
Cons: It was extremely difficult to get wifi
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and welcoming people. A wonderful garden. The central lawn with sunshades and deck chairs is accessible from the back door of every room. Beautiful artistic paintings on walls inside and outside the buildings. The rooms are stylish, well lit and perfectly clean. With the mosquito nets on the windows it is possible to keep the windows open at night. A highlight is the wonderful breakfast prepared by Antonella. Delicious fresh homemade cakes and homemade jams of different kinds of citrus fruit (some you might not even have heard of yet) and other fruits and berries. Very good cappucino. A place to call again!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly atmosphere
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The welcome and hospitality of Biagio and Antonella were superb, as was her breakfast. We were disappointed that neither the restaurant nor swimming pool were open, especially as I had booked it because of the good recommendations for the restaurant but Biagio recommended an excellent restaurant and escorted us there, so that made up for it. He was a super helpful host.
Cons: Restaurant and pool being shut
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A great place for a stopover in a quiet rural setting. Our hosts Gaetano and Antonella were charming. Antonella’s breakfast using local fresh figs, cheese and honey was a special treat The adjoining restaurant La Locanda was a real bonus. Great food and value.

Pros: Exceptional accommodation, really fascinating layout providing maximum privacy with a distinct quirkiness which was very endearing. Very aesthetically pleasing apartments with an artistic flair that is very relaxing.
Cons: I really cannot find anything to dislike apart from the concrete parking blocks which could be a problem...
6.3 Good
Pros: Biagio! Really great host
Cons: The place looks OK from the outside. Soon as we entered the room our opinion changed. Old furniture and bed. The old windows consist of a thin pane of glass with old shutters to darken the room. Really can't understand how it gets it's rating!! Small TV Absolutely way overpriced for what you got.

Pros: The view is fabulous. And the staff is very pleasant (even if they don’t speak English). For a couple it is a possibility to stay in romantic place
Cons: There’s nothing to do around and it’s difficult to find out something as none speaks English
4.5 Okay
Pros: We’ve travelled for many years but have never stayed in a restored castle before.
Cons: We feel the Castle did NOT provide the customary services of a four star establishment because the website showed dinners (but none were provided during weekdays), carried our own bags, only toiletry was a bar of soap, no hot breakfast (no eggs), very uncomfortable mattress and pillow, no maps or suggestions what to do in area, high cost room for the area, no pool, small shower stall was plugged up, the only chair in the room would fit a child and no English spoken for visitors. Lovely family but not ready to be running a 4 star hotel. We’ve been world travelers for many years but we cut our stay shorter than planned due to our disappointment.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It's a castle! At the top of a hill overlooking the village. Spectacular building with a beautiful terrace at the top of the tower. Rooms are impressive too with original furnishings from... a long time ago! Antonio was also very helpful
Cons: No restaurants were open in town although Antonio did offer to cook something for me. I had however found one small shop to make me a sandwich so wasn't necessary.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: Shame the restaurant was closed
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Hill-top location, historical heritage, sympathetic restoration, nothing-is-too-much-trouble attitude from the staff.
Cons: Having a small car is a necessity to navigate the very narrow access road.

Pros: The room was large with 2 lounge setees and nicely decorated with lovely embroidered sheets.. In the centre of town within walking distance to 1 or 2 eateries. The town is set high on a hill with stunning views of the countryside. Very quiet.
Cons: Firstly, the street number was not the correct one. We had difficulties finding the place and asked a young child who directed us to the right location. When the owner arrived and we discussed the amenities, he did not mention the breakfast even though it was supposed to be included. When we asked he suggested we have breakfast at a local place. We asked if he could bring the breakfast at 8.00am which he did. But we felt that we shouldn't have had to ask. Also the hot water ran out when we were having a shower.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The room was clean. The host helped us with the luggage.
Cons: The room was in the basement, and we had to walk down very dangerous steps with no railing. Therefore, we stayed in the basement and had to have dinner delivered. The host asked if we wanted breakfast or would we be going to a cafe for breakfast. I wonder why this is called a Bed and Breakfast!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation had lot of space. Owners had thought of small details, like candles, stocking kitchen with some products (included) like: beer, coffee, drinking water, e.t.c Very welcoming host, although he had very low English skills. Price per value- SUPERB. Also thumbs up for quick reaction. We booked around 20:00 and arrived at 21.00. As its low season there I were really worried, if they have seen booking, but everything went smooth and soon owner contacted me on whatsup! :)
Cons: The address! The location they gave us was some point of interest in village and we had to wait until someone comes and takes us to the place. Had a feeling, that I could have found it also on my own. Breakfast was served in cafe not far away. That place I didn`t like.

Cons: In no case do not have to go on the old road - a very steep climb for a car with a small motor

Pros: Franco has to be the friendliest proprietor I have ever stayed with; he wants to ensure his guests have a very positive experience. He is willing to accommodate guest food preferences for breakfast (more than ample choices) and has an excellent knowledge of the area so he can make great recommendations of things to do.
