Pros: Comfy rooms Excellent breakfast and dinner Spa treatments Pathways for long walks
Cons: Shower was bit small Sometimes staff were not as attentive as expected
Cons: The only thing I was disappointed in was the dinner set menu. At R410 per person I expected better quality food!
Pros: Only criticism was the dinner menu, I felt it could have been a bit more exciting.
Pros: Rooms, reception and public areas were well kept. Presentation of food was excellent. Location is serene and beautiful.
Cons: Rooms could do with a ceiling fan as there is no air conditioning. Swimming pool is in a shoddy condition with uneaven surface, leaves floating in the water and algae on the walls. Treadmill in the gym didn't work. A few signs indicating where to hike would be helpful.
Pros: - nice property near Dullstroom - possible to make a little hike in the evening and see the whole property (we even saw a zebra crossing our way) - good choice of breakfast - we recommend doing a horseriding tour - very nice guide
Pros: The most spectacular setting filled with beauty and serenity. The staff - from the friendly Colley at reception to the efficient Bongani and Jafta in the dining room we couldn’t have asked for better service. Then to top it all Natasha, Daphne and Jackpot that head up the kitchen, outdone themselves at every meal. thank you for making our breakaway spectacular!!!
Cons: Absolutely nothing!!
Set on a 270 hectare farm with 2 trout dams, Woolly Bugger Farm is located in the idyllic Tonteldoos Valley. It offers self-catering accommodation in a tranquil environment, just 7 km from Tonteldoos. The accommodation will provide you with a patio, a living area and kitchen facilities. Each unit has a fireplace and barbecue facilities. You can enjoy views of the dam and the mountains. At Woolly Bugger Farm, an array of activities can be enjoyed on site or in the surroundings, including cycling, trout fishing and hiking. The property offers free parking. Dullstroom is about 30 km away from the farm.
Pros: Great host. Great accommodations. Lovely walks and out door area. Great for dogs.
Pros: Amazing sunset views and great little paths from the houses to the dams.
Cons: Unfortunately the water level in the dams was extremely low.
Pros: The farm is really beautiful and the nature trails were easy to follow with lots of places to sit, picnic and enjoy the spectacular views. The cottage was well-stocked with tea, coffe and all the essentials including towels and soap. The braai was cleaned daily and extra wood provided. The owners were very helpful and we were even able to hire fishing rods to fish in the dams.
Pros: Loved the walks with our dogs, very quiet and we even saw a Fish Eagle catching fish on two separate occasions within 15 minutes.Enough fire wood supplied
Cons: The road
With a stay at Stonecutters Lodge in Lydenburg, you'll be 13.9 mi (22.4 km) from Lydenburg Museum and 14.1 mi (22.7 km) from Lydenburg Golf Club. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Planning an event in Lydenburg? This lodge has facilities measuring 538 square feet (50 square meters), including a conference center. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Dams, pine trees, underfloor heating, patio, food
Cons: The ambient light from outside and the noise from the proximity of being close to the road
Pros: We were upgraded from the studios to Stone Cottage which was a great start to the weekend, although the studio apartments also looked comfortable. Accommodation was clean & tidy & the bed was super comfortable. Lots of little details included - eg fireplace & braai set up each day with kindling & firelighters. Full DSTV suite also included. I spent most of the weekend fishing on the main dam. The quality of the angling was simply sublime. The dam had been recently stocked so there were plenty of stockies in the 600 to 800g range for the wooly bugger brigade. But the really exciting sport was provided by much larger 2nd & 3rd generation fish which also inhabit the main dam. I had to change tactics a few times to crack the code for these guy's, finally opting to fish a team of tiny nymphs suspended about 7 feet under a yarn indicator with a #16 black or red epoxy buzzer on point. I cast these out into holes in the weed-beds & simply left them static. The action was unrelenting - I stopped counting after the 20th rainbow, most. of them between 1.5 & 2kg's. These fish are beautifully conditioned & fight like demons & I lost a whole bunch, including a real bus, after getting stitched up in the weeds.
Cons: Can't think of much.
Pros: Enjoyed the fishing. Fully stocked dams.
Pros: Great lodge in the mountains with excellent dinner and breakfast! We enjoyed our one night stay but it is definitely worth to spend some more days.
With a stay at Valley Of The Rainbow in Dullstroom, you'll be 14.7 mi (23.7 km) from Wild About Whiskey and 15.9 mi (25.5 km) from Dullstroom Bird of Prey & Rehabilitation Centre. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Valley Of The Rainbow Estate is such a beautiful and peaceful place. The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was superb. We really had a good and relaxed time and would recommend Valley Of The Rainbow Estate to anybody. Hope to return soon for another relaxing weekend.
Pros: Peaceful with beautiful pond. Lovely to listen to frogs and ducks early evening and waking up to sounds of cattle and birds in the morning The tent was well equipped and comfortable. Enjoyed the privacy
Cons: It would be preferable to have a higher table to eat at. The water pressure was not very good - hot and cold shower. The trees has grown so high that it obscures the view to the pond
Pros: No service, no complaints!! We were cut off from buzzing phones that weren't on silent, we went fishing and hiking and laughed ourselves to sleep with the crickets and frogs echoing from the dam, making up stories of what they're communicating. This place is gorgeous, maybe have something bigger than a car for the dirt road, but overall it is worth every moment building up to it!
Pros: Jeremy and Jill Brown are absolutely wonderful hosts. They made my stay at Valley of the Rainbow a genuinely special experience. Jill is a master in the kitchen, and her dinners were an absolute joy. Jeremy is a gracious and supportive host. The problem for me in writing this review is that they are, to my understanding, no longer with the estate. That makes a review of the estate rather tricky. The grounds are truly beautiful, and my new room in the Old Mill was comforting, stylish and had a warming wood burning stove that made all the difference.
Cons: This is by no stretch of the imagination a Dullstroom property. Although technically only 23km from Dullstroom, the only way to get there is through a ravine that requires a 4x4 vehicle. Otherwise you have to drive for 80km via Belfast. Cell phone reception on most of the property is weak to non-existent, and there is no wifi. If you need to stay connected or have the option to pop into Dullstroom for lunch, this is not the place for you. If you really want to be out of reach and love fishing, you’ll like this setting.
Pros: My stay was absolutely incredible. The property was out of this world set in the mill house . The fishing was perfect . Couldn’t have asked for anything better. Would definitely recommend this place !
Pros: The grounds are beautiful, food was delicious and the hosts were awesome. We stayed at one of the luxury tents, had a double bed and 2 single beds for the kids. Hot showers, clean beds and a view of the lake.
Pros: What a wonderful experience! Valley of the Rainbow Estate is definitely worth all your coins. It is such a beautiful and serene place. It is the PERFECT hideaway spot. Everything about that place is GORGEOUS. The cabin we stayed in was also a good value for our money. If you're someone that enjoys privacy, then the cabin is an ideal home to choose. The staff is EXTREMELY friendly. At first I thought it is maybe because I'm well-known, but its truly just in their nature. The lady at reception was also very helpful with anything that we needed (My partner got sick during dinner on one of the nights we were there and she was extremely hands-on, making sure that we were okay). Overall, it was beautiful and amazing. It was great to be out of the city for an entire week with no network or anyone bothering us. Haha.
Cons: THE GRAVEL ROAD! It is a good 20mins drive on gravel to reception. At first it felt like we were taking forever to get there. But I promise you, its really worth the drive. Another thing I didn't like were the Dormice that basically lived with us and ate our snacks in the kitchen (they'd wake us up every morning). However, they're friendly and aren't dangerous towards the human species AND, you don't really see them. There is a box though that you can put all your snacks in, and the Dormice can't get to it.
Pros: Wish we could have stayed longer
Cons: The road to the property could do with some work.
Pros: Lovely secluded location with view of the (artificial) lake. Tent was very clean and comfortable. Great shower. Breakfast was very good (not included in price)
Cons: The location is 17 km outside Dullstroom but it takes you 45 minutes to drive there becausr the road (dirtroad) is really bad. Fortunately we have a large 4 wheel drive, I dont think you would be happy driving that road with a small family car. The restaurant is only open when booked in advance, so bring your own food! No other restaurants or supermarkets within 40 minutes drive..
With a stay at Forest Creek Lodge & Spa in Lydenburg, you'll be 20.5 mi (33 km) from Lydenburg Museum and 20.8 mi (33.4 km) from Lydenburg Golf Club. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The service was impeccable and staff very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious! The environment was very peaceful with stunning views. Our room was very spacious and luxurious and the bed very comfortable. Anita was a very gracious host :) We will definitely be back!
Pros: The dinner was amazing! The food is simply incredible. The place is so secluded, and that is s a total win! I would happily go back again, despite the price that they charge. The staff in way keep to themselves and that can at times lead to poor service.
Cons: To get there is a serious mission, you NEED a high clearance vehicle, That road is simply no good for a normal city car. They say they do warn you but I was told too late.
Pros: The terrace for breakfast and drinks, outside the main dining area, is surrounded by woods, grassland and cliffs where Black Eagles and Cape Griffons roost and nest. The small hotel team provides a standard of service that matches that of an old-time 5-star hotel, with smiles throughout. The individual cabins are the height of luxury (ours had both a bath and an outside shower) and the food is superb. After a tiring drive on the pot-holed R36, it was a relief to leave our hire-car near the entrance and be driven the 4 km to the lodge; ridges for water run-off on the approach track mean you need a high-clearance vehicle to drive the whole way. We loved chilling at tables and chairs round the grounds, surrounded by bird-song, after a challenging hike to the waterfall in the cloud forest, without needing to respond to emails or social media for which the stunning setting also provides limited reception.
Pros: We had stunning views from the veranda The hike to the waterfall was awesome The picnic at the honeymoon pool was priceless
Cons: The owner's dog was a bit of a nuisance No air conditioner in the room
Pros: The Lodge is off the beaten track amongst the mountains. Ideal to unwind and rejuvenate the soul. Our suite was totally secluded amongst the trees and was comfortably furnished. The staff were amazing and friendly and very professional. The food was delicious and the table was set up in our suite where we could dine in privacy. The hike along the stream and the mountain views were breathtaking. Will definitely go back in the summer.
Pros: Lovely location with beautiful surroundings. Good meals with every consideration being made for dietary requirements. Loved the walks! Very accommodating staff.
Cons: Uncomfortable bed - wooden base with a thin mattress. Room could have been cleaner. Unpleasant odour in the room emanating from the toilet area. Lots of dust, grit and cobwebs. The shower cap had been used and had a broken elastic.
Pros: It is the most beautiful place to relax, to 'stop and smell the roses' The people are so friendly and caring. So clean and classy
Cons: There is nothing I would change.

Pros: Location was great to explore Dullstroom. The room was delightful and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful.
Cons: Not keen on the bath being in the bedroom.
Pros: The cottage was absolutely lovely. It was clean, we felt very welcomed and communication from the owner before arriving was very useful. The location is Excellent, in terms of being able to walk to the top end of town very easily.
Cons: We found the pillows a bit firm, it would have been nice to have been able to choose between one more firm and one softer - understanding that different people like different things. We would have liked a screen up, so that we could have showered over the bath.

Pros: Quint, Quiet and relaxing.
Pros: Friendly host. Clean. Convenient access to dullstroom
Cons: Rooms quite small. No real place to sit in bad weather conditions. Place overlooks local township
Pros: Jen is such a sweetheart. If you are looking for quiet peacefull farmstyle related getaway, this is the spot.
Cons: Gravel road but not inaccessible with a normal car
Pros: It was self catering so no breakfast. Very small and cramped. The beds were comfortable enough but the facilities were minimal. A strip of cut off bathmat was not acceptable..the mirror in the bathroom fit for a handbag. No fridge, no ice although Jen did make us some in half an hour which melted the minute we added our drink. Jen was a charming hostess and I feel bad giving her accommodation less than a perfect review but I learnt once again that in life, you get what you pay for. You asked for a review so I have given it.
Cons: a bit more room to move but she cant change that. A small fridge to keep my traveling food fresh and some ice made in advance. (That does not cost anything.) The 2 chairs in the entrance are so small, we were afraid to sit in them. A bigger bathmat. My husbands feet are bigger! If the there is no room to put in a little bar fridge, then at least put it in your website so the guests can be prepared and make their decision on that. If I had known, I would not have booked there.
Pros: Jen was so accommodating, as we booked very late due to bad weather conditions while traveling and she made us feel so welcome.
Cons: there was nothing we did not like.
Pros: The place is nice and the bed was comfy
Cons: Nothing everything was in order

Pros: Lovely area and breakfast was great.
Cons: The accomodation is remote from the actual cottage restaurant which is a challenge when arriving late.
Pros: Breakfast was fresh and value for money
Cons: The cottage I had booked was double booked so the first night I stayed at alternate arrangement which was equally nice but I wanted my original cottage with 2 rooms as it was a family holiday.
Pros: Breakfast was great and the staff was excellent.Venue setting was perfect.
Cons: Felt a little uneasy with the low perimeter fence and gate even though you have security guards on call.
Pros: Extra comfy bed. Rusks & coffee great
Cons: Add gps coordinates to website
Pros: breakfast very good and the location to the high street was very close
Cons: The microwave oven on the floor
Pros: Beautifully decorated, with great furniture Very comfortable
Cons: Internet did not work Lady bugs everywhere
Pros: Very quiet location. Easy to get checked in. Lovely having breakfast included at the restaurant. Very clean, lovely decor and many ways to stay warm if it would have been cooler.
Cons: We didn't get the room we chose due to internet problems. But what we did get had everything we needed except the air conditioning. Probably should include a fan if there is no air conditioning, we had our own.
Pros: Cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Beds were super comfy and bathrooms a nice size. Location is also just off the town center so it’s within walking distance of everything.
Cons: Although it was great that it included breakfast at the Rose Cottage restaurant, it was weird that some of the breakfasts the restaurant offered on their full menu, weren’t included in the breakfasts allowed by guests, even though there were more expensive breakfasts available on the guest menu.
