From start to finish Jewel Dunn's River Beach & Spa is one of the best inclusive resorts that I have been to, everyone is so friendly like we were all family. I would recommend this resort to all my friends and family.
We had a super time. Friendly and accomodating staff, beautiful and clean facility and excellent food. Superb value and would definitely go again.
The People are the best asset, The pool and beach are great. Lots of activities. We loved it.
Great service, food was surprisingly delicious and plentiful is an understatement. Several of the reservation only restaurants that I went to were very good as well. Easy to get to, lots of excursions. Very helpful and friendly staff. I would stay again. it's a tough one. I probably would've enjoyed more musical variety but i'm kind of grasping at straws to be honest.
Access to drinks in room was very convienientt
Beautiful property; great entertainment, good food, even better liquor... that's it! If your room is in block 3, eg: room # 3xxx,... RUN!!! (unless you thoroughly enjoy the smell of sewage). Once you traverse past the main dining hall & approach the elevator for block 3, a noxious odour of sewage hits you! And it doesn't leave you... it permeates through the corridors and remains noticeably present even when you're isolated in your room. We arrived on Friday evening to a room which was cleaned before 3pm the same day, but which still wreaked of that god-forsaken sewage odour. It was so bad that we checked out on Saturday afternoon, instead of Sunday as scheduled (without being refunded). Your only hope for escape, aside from checking out, is to confine yourself to the many other beautiful areas of this property... the beach, pool, nightclub, dining areas. Just stay as far away from block 3 as possible and dare not venture into your magnificently appointed room! What about sleeping soundly in a comfortable bed to the sounds of breaking waves you may ask... overrated! (unless your vision included the porous smell of sewage constantly tickling at your nose & churning your stomach.) Did we complain you may ask? Yes we did, but was still left to suffer in sewage city (aka Block 3)! I guess I can understand it being difficult to relocate guests when your hotel is close to capacity & an entire block of rooms is under siege! Aside from that little nagging smell :( the property is beautiful & the entertainment is great, despite the service being less than stellar
I like the staff they were very helpful and nice the place was clean I also in joy the food
The stay was great! 2nd trip...much nicer than the 1st time will definitely go back...food was ok , good mixture of culture. The ackee and salt fish was superb - tasted home cooked. I was annoyed that the entertainer performed the Jamaica's National anthem with their hands behind their back - they should know better, they are Jamaican and should show the world the correct thing. As a Jamaican Teacher I was seriously annoyed.
Visited mid-December 2010 and had a great time. The food was plentiful and delicious and the amenities were great. The staff was very helpful, prompt, and courteous. We got a great suite, but knowing there was a better one, we requested a move. They obliged and we were tickled pink happy. My only (minor) beef was that the new room didn't have a complete set of remotes, towels, drinks, etc, so we had to be calling room service to get the basic stuff. But their service was prompt and we didn't let that bother us. Only left the resort for Dunns Falls, which I do not recommend. It was just a tourist trap. We were handed to a couple of 'guides' who basically pushed our group up the falls. But if you do decide to go, do get the rental rubber shoes (they make you get them anyway). Back to the resort, highly recommended. Even the room service food was great (get the gazpacho and the Mediterranean appetizer!). The resort is very green and with lots of places to just hang out, just the two of you. If you are looking for a tranquil time with your significant other, this is the place to go. Would go back again, no problem.
This was our 4th stay at CSS and w've never been disappointed. The grounds are gorgeous; the people are welcoming; this place is paradise. Complaints about dated rooms must be from people who aren't looking at the sunsets, the foliage, the skies... The rooms are immaculate. What more could you want from a room. You go to Jamaica for the beach, the food, the people, the sun. We'll be back next year and can't wait.
I can't say enough good things about this resort, the staff are amazing, the food is out of this world, the location is perfect, I love this place!! I would go back in an instant.... where's my passport?
Rooms are in need of updating and repair, our sliding glass door was very hard to open, fixtures are dated, etc. Lost power to most of our lights one day due to some burnt wiring and it took a full day for electricians to repair. I understand that these things can happen but it meant that we were unable to usee our room all day as repairmen were in there. The resort itself is very nice and while the service is not quite as good as it is in the DR it is still good.
Everything here was amazing! We came for our honeymoon and stayed 7 days, we walked around the first day to see everything, but spent the rest of the days on the beach. There are tons of 'out of the way' places if you want to be alone, and tons of pathways through the woods connecting all the buildings. The food was really good, we wish we would have known that they change the menus on Sundays; there are 3 restaurants for dinner so if you're going for a week or more, make it go over a weekend so you can get a menu change. It was a long ride from the airport, but the driver will tell you about the island so it goes by quickly. If you're going to go snorkeling, which we definitely recommend, go on the glass bottomed boat tour first since they tell you what each part of the reef is. There is wifi in the rooms which we were able to pick up on our smartphones, but sometimes it could be slow. The beach bar stays open until 10 pmish, so if you don't want to go all the way up the hill to the main bar, there are plenty of places to hang out later into the evening, but things get pretty quiet after 8ish on most nights.
My husband and I stayed here on our honey moon in 1998 and it was beautiful and wonderful so we thought we would go back. 11 years later this hotel is showing its age! I would never go here again. The rooms were dingy, the furniture was the same furniture from 11 years ago with ding marks all over it. The bars close way too early now (most at 5pm), the service was not as good and the restraunt quality has gone way down. Definetly not worth the money. The spa wervices are also way too expensive now. We had to get more towels and wash clothes becuase there was only one set when we got there. We ended up called 3 times to get them. The minifridge is limited on the quantity of items you are allowed per day and they would only allow you to have 1 3oz cranberry juice per room??? So we had to split it. Even if you ask for more they will not give it to you. The main bar that stays open with the later hours is way up the mountain side so good luck catching your breath and finding your way back at night. The restaurants don't open until 7pm or later so we were always hungry by the time we were allowed to eat. Very disappointing.
couldn't have asked for a better hotel. great food, super friendly staff, and although the hotel was completely booked, it never once felt crowded. The grounds were always quiet and relaxing.
Is this the newest property in Jamaica? No. Is the fully renovated and looks like it's never had a guest stay there? No. But is it the most relaxing, romantic place you may ever stay? Yes. So much to see and experience here that getting to the beach almost is an afterthought.
We have been to Jamaica 4 other times. We had very high hopes in regards to this stay. We had seen other reviews about this resort and were very excited about our stay. Arrival at the airport and being escorted into their waiting room was very nice and very painless. Drinks were provided as were restroom facilities. We only had to wait not even a 1/2 hour. The drive to the resort was very nice since they have finally finished with the road work. Upon arrival at the property we were greeted with the customary glass of champagne and checked in. At the same time we booked our restaurant reservations. A gentleman took us to our room in a little taxi like vehicle because we would have had to walk a bit of a distance with our luggage. We had to wait a bit more then we would have liked, but they did finally come and showed us our room which was right on the beach overlooking a small yard. Upon first entering the room you are greeted with a mini-fridge, mini-bar and coffee maker, etc... I immediately noticed that the furniture was nicked and had pot marks in it. The door to the cabinet that housed the mini bar did not even close all the way. Further inspection of the room was nice, but showed some shabby furniture that really needs to be replaced about 5 years ago. The bed was VERY comfortable though and they get 5 stars on that respect. The bathroom was nice and the shower and jetted tub are separate. We never used the jetted tub. Later on in the week though the bathroom seemed to be over run with these little ants all over the place. There were little ants all over the counter tops and in the floor. Also in the shower you could see mildew in the shower grout. We unloaded and relaxed for a minute, took in the view and off we went on our grand adventure. The beach is quite nice, but small and we are okay with that. just be reminded that this report's beach is located in a cove and the water is MUCH COLDER then out in the actual ocean. If you want warm water in the oce...
Everyone working at San Souci made us feel welcome and pampered. Very friendly, fun, relaxed, carefree environment. From the activity coordinators to the bartenders to the housekeepers. Very clean and well kept resort. Food and drinks were excellent! We are looking forward to going back.
First time at an all inclusive and it was great. This resort was so clean and the staff so friendly... The grounds were beautiful... I loved the secret spots you could find while walking around... a hammock here, a giant sized chess board there... hidden jacuzzi's nestled amongst the palm trees... it was a treasure! I would definitely want to go back there again!
Incredible staff, fabulous property, wonderful accomodations, terrific tours....the most perfect vacation I have ever experienced. I highly recommend Couples Sans Souci
The vibe at this place is just lovely. We had never been to an all inclusive before (we like to experience the culture of a place and not just stay on a gated off property), but we booked because it was close to downtown ocho rios and a great price for including the round-trip montego bay airport transfer and free drinks/food/activities. We ended up loving the layout and vibe of this place. It's a luxury resort but it's kind of fraying at the edges, in a charming kind of way - apparently one of the first resorts built on the island. Everything is extremely clean and well designed. We loved the beautiful trees and plantings overgrowing the beach and pools. The naked island is also beautifully landscaped, with a luxurious isolated feel. We often felt like we were in one of those vacation posters from the 60s. The naked island. We were nervous about this but decided we had to do it before we left. It was actually really awesome and there was no reason to be nervous. The vibe was much more social out there, probably because being naked breaks down a lot of barriers you might normally feel with strangers. One woman commented that "this place is the opposite of sexy, it's more like becoming a baby again" and that was true. Teneil was running trivia at the pool bar out there and she was hilarious, and the bartender Abigail out there was great too. There's a full bar on the island and there's food out there around lunch too. You take a ferry out, find your beach chair, and then undress. You may not be out there with clothes on, except staff. Our cab driver Nash was the absolute man. He took us to the blue hole and then we booked him again to take us to the farmers market in ocho rios. He then took us to his favorite bar where we played dominoes with the locals - the most fun we had on the trip. Finally he brought us to a local Jamaican restaurant where much food was eaten. Book him, he's the man. The blue hole was incredible. Don't leave ocho rios without going there - natural waterfalls and turquoise pools with cliff jumping and rope swings. Our guide was Dave, who was also the man. The guides carry your cameras/iPhones over their heads as they swim across the pools and they never get wet. We loved the activity lady chevalle as well, who we tried to convince to walk with us to Ocho Rios which she thought was a fully hilarious request. Good people. Be aware that if you want to do scuba, the beginners class is at 8:30 AM and you may not scuba the day before your departure. The food was better than we expected for an all inclusive, but I was sick of it after 3 days. The Asian restaurant has a cool location out over the water, but the food was really bad except the thom kla soup (you're in Jamaica, why are you ordering Asian food anyway. This is an every-Asian-cuisine-on-one-menu place, which was the first sign). The drinks are free flowing and pretty yummy, but definitely watered down (even the gin ordered to our room was clearly half the alcohol of regular gin - I've made a gin and tonic many times and never put 3 shots in it). However, if these drinks were full alcohol, the resort would have a problem with guests being way too drunk so I understand why they do it. We also found more name-brand stuff that seemed to not be watered down on the naked island. The snorkeling trip was sad because the reefs around Jamaica are pretty much dead, and the "couples reef" is no exception. You'll see some little fish and a squid if you're lucky, but the coral is largely dried up. However, it's nice so swim out in the ocean and the trip is only an hour so why not. Cabs are very expensive, because the drivers stay with you wherever you go. My last criticism is that there's definitely a "hush hush" rule among employees that they are not allowed to tell you about fun local things to do (truly local).
The location. There was no hot water. The air conditioning wasn't adequate. The beds were very small. I felt like the towels were rationed.
Excellent location, easy access to town and area attractions. Nice complimentary breakfast that keeps full until dinner. Over all a positive experience! ! Wait staff a bit slow, but pretty pleasant
This guest did not leave comments about this hotel.
I can't believe a resort in Jamaica would only serve instant coffee. For this reason alone I most likely will not return.
The staff was very friendly. I especially like that there was no pressure for anything. Some resorts always want to sell you something. The breakfast was awesome and the staff friendly and courteous. We felt safe the entire stay. The pool and its surroundings need a bit of a facelift otherwise everything was great for the price
I lovee the privacy we had to ourselves.. Hotel employee who worked in the buffet and the rasta house keeper as well as the entire front desk was so nice. Great Wish we had access to get drinks and snacks around the clock. But that's the least.
The bartender and the restaurant owner was nice Didn't get the room I paid for, we were placed in the back by near the woods, the room was filthy, no hot water, dirty linen, nasty attitude if you complained. One room flooded. Hotel should be taken off this site and every other search engine.
The view from the room Very long hill to walk up and down.
The room was big, and the location was close to lots of activites. Some being within walkin distance or they offered a taxi free of charges. Additionally, free wi-fi and breakfast was a perk. however there was absolutely no water pressure and the hot water only lasted 3-5 minutes. taking a cold shower after being on a sandy beach was not ideal.
If you're looking for a place to relax this is it. Very quiet out of the way of traffic and crowds. Beautiful swimming pool and peaceful grounds. On site restaurant where the food is good. They have a pool bar which doesn't open til about 12 noon where they play music. We enjoyed kareoke night but not many people came. Only other activity is a tennis court. Plenty of cats roaming the grounds. The workers are very friendly, if we needed something they got it right away. Walking up and down the hill is exercise but there are cabs available. Margaritaville is in walking distance and turtle park is right across the street. I would definitely stay there again.
This was my second time there, the first time was great; My most recent stay was on 8/7/09 to 8/10/09 and on my first day there after checking in and going down to the beach, my room was burglarized! The Manager was not cooporative and did not alert the police when notified and even threathened to have me and my party arrested if we did not keep our voices down. Management did nothing to minimize our loss and due to the fact that we were there for only two days my impression was that she was happy to see us go without having to make any restitution or accomodations for our loss. It was obvious that it had to be a staff member as the room was locked when we returned from the beach and our room was tossed and locks on our luggage broken... as a returning national I was most dissapointed and offended by management's lack of concern or consideration. I will never return to this resort and advise others to stay away. The police when they were finally notified were very considerate that was the only plus.
It's centrally located in Ocho Rios. Basically like a downtown area. The hotel needs maintenance. Fresh paint, landscaping, and pest control
We travel all over the Caribbean, We were here June of 2008. The hotel was ok, but my son who is 13 was at the waterpark, and was harassed by people who yelled at him through the fence wanting money. The fence is maybe 20 feet from the slides. There are peoples shacks on the other side and they attempt to talk to you through the fence. There is security at night, would not suggest going on the beach at night. The resort is narrow, and long. If you have asthma, or a heart condition, this hotel is not for you. It is by-level and you have to walk tons of stairs or wait over 10 minutes on the slowest elevator in the world. If you enjoy a good beach this beach is nice, but not much of it. Very narrow resort. Slides are shut down at 5pm, so if you have teens, sesame street is not much for entertainment. Did not feel safe letting them leave to go on there own. From one to ten, I give our vacation a 4. I would stay at another Beaches maybe in Negril.
My two teenage boys (ages 15 and 13), my husband, and I have just returned from Beaches Boscobel resort. This resort is everything their website says it is. The staff are courteous, helpful, & friendly. The room (Beachfront Honeymoon Suite) was spacious enough for the pullout sofa & a roll away bed with dancing room to spare! The maid service was first rate daily & our fridge was stocked at all times including the requested bottle of champagne for on the beach mimosas. Our porch was big enough for us to have our morning coffee or an afternoon snack while watching the world go by. We were indeed just steps from the beach. As for watersports, there were plenty of kayaks & hobie cat sail boats to go around. If you don't know how to sail, one of the water sport staff were eager to take anyone out for a sail. We told them we knew how & were able to go out a few times on our own, no problem. What a gorgeous place to sail!!!! We brought our own goggles so getting masks & such was not an issue & I'm not sure if they had them to use at the beach but we did use their equipment for our 2 snorkeling trips. Our room came with concierge service & we used this to get into various excursions like the concierge only snorkeling & glass bottom boat ride. All of this is included & you are not expected to tip anyone. Once you get to the resort, tip the driver of the shuttle then put your cash away unless you're buying souveniers. The breakfast buffet, the bbq shacks jerk chicken, the arizona, the the venetian were all quite good but our fav was the Arizona. This resort is well worth it!
Look, no one should be fooled that this is a four star resort because it is not, but the price isn't either. The beach is very small but clean and well maintained. The beds aren't exactly pillow top mattresses but they were comfortable enough to sleep in and the rooms were very clean. Hot water was sparse but with temps in the 90's, we didn't mind. The food in the main buffet was not bad but nothing to cheer about, however; the food in the other restaurants was surprisingly excellent especially the Italian restaurant and even the steaks at the Arizona were great. The pool was nice and not too over crowded and the pool bar was great. Red stripes flow freely all day. Our kids are a little older but still had fun on the slides and took full advantage of the water sports. They rode the banana boats over and over, we used the catamarans and water bikes. We even went out on the snorkeling trip. It was a very short trip but I was more than pleasantly surprised with the sea life that we saw. I played golf and the course was great and they provided a very helpful and friendly caddy. The service made the trip worth it and everyone there is remarkably friendly. They say no tipping but a few extra ones in your pocket is still greatly appreciated. It is true that outside the resort you will get a lot of pushy people trying to sell you just about anything so if that bothers you then go to Florida and skip Jamaica but you'll never get to meet * or * and that would be a shame. Lighten up and have some fun Mon!
Just got back & I will never go back - the resort is nothing like the pictures they have on their web site. There's no beach whatsoever & if you like swimming goodluck bc they have it roped off at waist high. Out of the 4 restaurants they offered 2 were ok, 2 were absolutely disgusting - the food wasn't bad but the pigeon & chickens everywhere along with their droppings can turn any stomach. We were supposed to have an oceanfront view but what we got instead was 6' piece of plywood to our left and a huge palm tree right in front. Couldn't see the ocean at all. If you are single and looking for something to do good luck bc there's no night life at the resort & if you wanted ot go outside the resort it has to be at their set times & they don't recommend taking a cab bc your safety isn't guarenteed - NICE!!! This is a nice place for children but not for anyone over 18. I will say though the staf was incredible very pleasnat.
I went with my 3 kids (4, 7 and 10) late February 2009. First off the brochures show the resort in perfect form. No surprise I suppose. Initial reaction was not good. The Bad: Worn furniture, painting needed, outside lights broken, rusty external stairs, outside canopies rusting away, old fixtures falling off walls in public bathrooms, broken elevators, etc. Most of the gym equipment was either broken or falling apart. Ok food. Tiny beach 3-4 flights down from main hotel. No snorkel gear available unless on snorkel trip-kids bummed. The Good: The kids LOVED the water slides along with the unlimited slush drinks, popcorn, snowcones, etc. Terrific shows throughout the day and at night. Staff are absolutely terrific. Friendly, warm and a great representation of Jamaican hospitality. Summary: We had a good time despite some bad weather, however, we would never go back. The Resort is very ''tired'' and needs a major overhaul IMO to justify the cost. Or, charge much less and deal with the lack of maintenance. Your kids will have a blast.
The golf is 25 minutes from the resort. The 'suites' are just guest rooms The food is mediocre The beach is tiny
We just returned home and it was my sons first trip out of the country, it was a long drive there but well worth it. It was nice to not have to figure out how much to tip all the time. They have a tone of activities for children and families, I don't think it is much of an (adult) resort, they are more family oriented which was great for us. Whoopie, Dice and the rest of the entertainment staff do a great job. My son is 14 and met a ton of new friends from all over, the staff was wonderful, Dwight and Arron at the swim up bar are the best bartenders, friendly with everyone and great with the children. The beach is a little smaller than pictured but it is very clean, we had our own snorkeling gear so did a lot of water sightseeing. If you go off the resort or to the edges you are confronted by alot of pushy people trying to sell things, but that is their livelihood, and you get it most everywhere you go touristy. Food was good, not alot of choices, but they were good. Rooms were clean. Would recommend the Dune buggy, Dunns River Falls and Bob Marley tours, worth every penny. Overall had a great time and would go back tomorrow.
i was a little secptical about the pictures over the internet because what you see advertised is never what you pay for. To my surprise it was heaven. We arrived in Montego Bay to be greeted by friendly staff with a reception party drinks, snacks and cocktails. We were lead to our transportation. shuttles.. When we arrived in Ocho Rios. Dunns River Resort we were given fresh cool towels and champagne cocktails. My suite(Honeymoon Penthouse) had a balcony every day breakfast over looking the blue waters. The water sports were great. I never snorkled but my husband did. Glass bottom Boats. The restaurants are awesome. We even met and remained friends with some employees. I never saw anything out of place. Room service 5 thumbs up. When I say all night room service believe me. April 3 2008 my children will travel with us to boscobel beaches in Jamaica Sandals Resort. Will update. 5 STAR RESORT
Food was good and the rooms were clean. When it rained the hallways flooded. The bars swarmed with bees during day light hours and the staff did nothing about them. It is a family resort so children were running all over the resort. We went out on the glass bottom boat but saw no fish. If you wanted a decent wine with dinner, there was an extra charge. It is an older resort and shows its age.
My husband and I along with our daughter and some other family members stayed here for 2 weeks. While we were there we renewed our vows on the beach barefoot. The beach is a little small but I liked the calm waters for swimming! The staff was busy but helpful when we needed them. We stayed in a regular room and that was fine for us. They supplied a crib so we didn?t have to sleep with our daughter. The nanny service was great. It was a little to hot for her to be outside all day and they took great car of her in the nice cool a/c room. Wish there was more choices for restaurants. Food was good though. If you?re going to get married or anything of that nature outside I recommend wearing a ton of deodorant! We were all sweating like crazy and we did our ceremony and 9am. Oh and if your going during hurricane season buy the extra hurricane protection. Hurricane Gustav came and cut our vacation short. All we had to do was write an email and the Sandals/Beaches family covered our days we missed. Turned out to be a week so my husband and I will be using it March 09 and will be visiting Sandals Grand Antigua! All we had to pay for was airfare. The rest was taken care of. Over all?..Loved it!! Drinks were great!! Pool Bar great except you sometimes have to share with kids. Do the Dunn?s River Falls! Amazing excursion and a lot of fun. Oh and snorkeling was fun to swim in the ocean but we only saw 3 fish and a ton of grass. Oh and water park is fun too.
From the moment we arived we were made to feel at ease. The bell man met the van and told us to relax we were guests. He sorted the luggage by room and gave us every confidence that all bags would arive at the proper room. At the reservation desk we were greated by an over accomidating recieptionist who assured us she would escort each of us to our rooms. The bell man then returned with fruit punch or rum punch for everyone. We were walked to our rooms and given an explanation of the various amenities mini frig, air conditioning control fan control. The grounds are lovely and well maintained. Plenty of accomidating dinning options, and a variety of pools including a water park with slides and rope ladders. The hotel had our return flight information and we were givin the time to be in the lobby for pick-up, never a worry.
I WENT THERE WITH MY FAMILY,BUT MY FAMILY ARE ORIGINALLY FROM JAMAICA . WE HAD A GREAT TIME. MY SON NEVER BEEN TO THE BEACH BEFORE AND HE ENJOYED HIMSELF. THE STAFF WAS VERY VERY FRIENDLY THEY MADE SURE EVERY THING WAS OKAY. THEY LET OUR FAMILY COME IN THE RESORT TO SPEND A DAY WITH US AND WE ONLY PAID A SMALL FEE BUT THEY WERE INCLUDED IN THE ALL INCLUSIVE ,SO THEY GOT EVERY THING WE GOT. FOR ALL THE FAMILIES THAT WANT TO GO AND PARTY THEY HAVE NANNY'S THAT YOU CAN PAY ON THE HOUR WHILE YOU GO PARTY. FOR ALL TEENAGERS THEY WILL NEVER GET BORED BACAUSE THEY HAVE A XBOX GAME ROOM WITH SEVERAL XBOXES W/ DIFFERENT GAMES. ITS ALWAYS SOMTHING TO DO. HEY I EVEN WON A REGGEA DANCE CONTEST THE HOTEL HAD ON FRIDAYS. IT WAS AN EXCELLENT HOTEL ILL RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE.
My wife and I were impressed with the boutique feel of the Plantation though it is part of the Sandals chain. Never felt crowded and the facilities felt authentic. The best food we've ever had at an all inclusive. A few earlier reviews claimed the rooms were worn but we felt our room and all the public spaces were clean and not dated at all. We are beach bums and loved the west beach. The butler service was ok though certainly not as good as butler services at other resorts. Some of the food staff could use more hospitality training.
