Hotel Barth - Kaiserslautern - Building
1
8.9 Excellent (592 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Barth in Kaiserslautern, you'll be a 3-minute walk from Hohenecken Castle and 6 minutes by foot from Japanischer Garten. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Secure parking staff and location
Cons: Small bathroom/shower no AC.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rm and location
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Barth was perfect for my needs. The breakfast was good and they had on site parking (for a fee). The hotel also had a small bar with some good options. The junior suite, which I stayed in, was good for long term stay. It had a microwave and refrigerator along with dishes and silverware. The shower was very large and the bathroom not at all cramped. Location was great with easy access to many shops and restaurants in the middle of downtown Kaiserslautern, to include the K in Lautern mall. My room also included an Ethernet port along with wireless. Wired Ethernet very fast and more secure.
Cons: Because of its location, driving in the immediate vicinity of the hotel could be difficult. The room I had was not air conditioned - not usually a problem in Germany, but I was there in June and there was a heatwave going on. Some of the rooms are air-conditioned, but the junior suite I was in was not. I do not believe the hotel had laundry service either, so if you plan on a long stay, plan accordingly for laundry arrangements.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Always clean, pleasant staff, calm. My escape away from home to clear my head. My happy place.
Cons: No air con.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice small hotel, modern and comfortable.
Cons: Parking in street needed payment on meter.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was possible to get the room earlier than declared Check-in time. The staff is extremely nice and friendly, and always ready to help. It's actually quite rare, when the staff smiles really sincerely and not just because of the job. And here people are really love their job and to communicate with others! :-) The bed and the pillow were comfortable as always. Tea and coffee sets were filled every day, the room was always clean and it was actually pleasant to find one day after a walk that all charger cables I left on the table in a mess were neatly folded. It's not an obligation, but thank you, it was so kind! Regardless of minor problems, this is still the only one hotel in Kaiserslautern, to which I always want to return. Whether it‘s a business trip or vacation.
Cons: I don't know why, but there were some odd problems with Wi-Fi connection again, like I had in the previous summer: the connection was interrupted from time to time, and it wasn't possible to open some apps (not only some game apps, but also my bank account app etc.) I told about the problem when it was Saturday, and til Tuesday when I was checking-out the problem was still here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is centrally located about 1 min from the K Lautern. Friendly staff and nice clean rooms
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Almost like a home away from home during my weekend trips and weekend escapes
Cons: Proposing to have their hotel sign lit up outside. Trying to find my way back to the hotel in the night, it’s difficult to see from far where the hotel entrance is because the sign has no light.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The staff was amazing!
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, English speaking was a great help, the son even reprogrammed the GPS in my car to work for English, awesome people.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners are one of the nicest people we ever met! They made our stay perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Very clean. Strong Wifi. Friendly staff.
Cons: Wished I had asked for a fan before I came.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very quiet and is cosy. In each room there is a green apple for the guest and I find the attention delicate (I love apples). The breakfast is nice with bread, coffee cheese and ham. The personnel is friendly. The beds are also very good.
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel was convenient and centralized, stores and markets are all within walking distances.
Cons: I expected to see the front desk reception when I first checked in the hotel on Sunday but only spoke with the owner through a doorbell camera. I did not see or interact with the owners until I checked out 7 days later. The hallway was quiet, automatic lights and hardly saw anyone during my stay. The room and garage key was already located inside my room. There’s no elevator, no microwave, and no iron or board. They had a TV, small refrigerator with snacks/drinks and my room overlook a small street portion of the area. I did not eat breakfast so I am unable to provide feedback on that portion. The parking garage with very tight and unique on how it operated. You have to turn the key to open the wooden garage, space available to park between 5-6 vehicles depending on type/size. The turning radius was tight and small so you have to be cautious while driving into the alley and parking. The mall is a minute walking distance, the kebab and Asia restaurant across the streets and you have bars, salons, moms and pop stores all around. Depending on your room location, you are able to hear people talking loudly or drinking early in the morning. It’s a 3 star hotel so you pay for the location but not so much for the customer service care or amenities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were so helpful and friendly. My room was perfect. Everything was simple and worked perfectly
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners are wonderful. They know their guests by name. It feels like staying with family and friends whenever I stay here. The hotel is very clean and well decorated. The breakfast is wonderful. It is an easy walk to local shopping.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Close proximity to shopping, restaurants and the freeway
Cons: Pillows are super flimsy. There is little to no support. I think that’s common in German hotels though. I usually bring my own neck pillow to remedy this.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Room was super clean and very comfortable.
Cons: Difficult with all of the stairs. Breakfast was good but the same every day. Beautiful presentation but got boring.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly service. Very clean and safe. Close walking proximity to shopping and restaurants.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a wonderful local small hotel, clean rooms large by European standards, Sky cable with hundreds of channels, great service, and most of all an incredibly good restaurant. I ate there every night during the week.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This was my second visit to this property and it delivered a solid performance for the second time! The location and on-site parking suit my needs very well, and whilst the breakfast is not a "big hotel" style full buffet of hot and cold options, the variety of choices offered are fresh and plenty more then enough. The hotel staff successfully do their best to attend to one's needs - what more could one ask?
Cons: Nothing!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast friendly staff.
Cons: Quite small room, also the street was very loud as well as the other guests walking the halls. A bus stop right by the window did not help. Also it was HOT.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, comfortable place with an amazing restaurant. The location is perfect for getting to the surrounding area. The staff makes you feel like family.

7.0 Good
Pros: The look of the facility is charming. Staff is friendly.
Cons: Walking alone at night to the hotel was a little scary. The streets are quite dark. As a lone female traveler, safety is important to me. The twin bed room reminded me of a college dorm. Comfortable but lacking in charm.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was very clean and appealing. The air conditioning was very nice, quiet and effective. The desk personnel were friendly, efficient and helpful
Cons: Unfortunatel it is on the far side of Kaiserslautern for where we must go. The parking was a little difficult but okay. The breakfast was okay but did not seem as fresh as we have had at other hotels we have stayed at recently.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Characterful auberge type hotel blending the best of old and new.. Good, clean rooms, good friendly restaurant, both inside and out, including a seasonal local section on the menu. we were looking for a handy overnight stop with the hotel providing all we needed. We were even able to take a country walk along a lane right by the hotel.
Cons: Lots of steps to negotiate, especially in the annexe. No lift.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly Staff, great room, great food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was incredible. Loved the A/C. The hotel thinks of everything - if you look around your room you will notice things that other hotels don't think of. This is my second time and my other reviews covers what I saw,
Cons: I don't know... free dinner... LOL... seriously all was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location easy access
Cons: Sometimes night time can get a bit crowded
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: I don’t recommend the hotel. We were cheated with our booking. We booked a family room and we were given a totally different accommodation without any information before. The hotel has different buildings. A ‘refreshed’ one - with nice rooms which you can see on the hotel’s website and a several-room building across the street which was not renovated. We got a different room with much lower standard than on pictures. I was not offered any compensation. The hotel offer was to pay more and take 2 double rooms in the renovated part. This was not what we felt a customer service (they wanted us to pay more). I did not want to pay any single euro after being cheated. It only shows that the hotel is open to sacrifice its opinion for less than Eur50. Shame! WiFi hardly works in the older building. We usually book 3*-4* objects with opionion >8. That one proved to be not reliable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The size of the room was exceeding my expectation as we were traveling with 3 persons. The breakfast was excellent, very large assortment of bread, cereals, sweets, juices. Hotel is very quiet.
Cons: There was nothing not to like
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Size of the rooms and the AC
Cons: Hardly any parking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Neat and clean.
Cons: N/A

7.5 Good
Pros: Great location and very friendly staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Coffee!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel Altstadt is a little jewel at the upper end of the historic district in Kaiserslautern. It is a traditional gasthaus that has been modernized in to a very nice, comfortable facility in the heart of the town. It is close to sightseeing, convenient to great hiking trails and walking distance to the bahnhof. The staff was warm and friendly. The facility was kept in a high state of cleanliness.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful customer service! After I accidentally left a sweater in the room, Altstadt Hotel contacted me immediately.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff - good value - good location
Residenz Am See Kaiserslautern - Kaiserslautern - Building

In addition, the apartments all come equipped with a DVD player, a bathroom with a hairdryer, and a kitchenette with a refrigerator and a dishwasher. The nearest supermarket is 2.5 km from Residenz am See. A selection of restaurants can be found within a 5-minute walking distance of the accommodation. Popular activities in the surrounding area include hiking and cycling. The Palatinate Gallery of Art with work from the 19th and 20th centuries, is situated a 15-minute drive from the aparthotel. Vogelweh Train Station is 10 km from Residenz am See, and there is free private parking available at the property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Residenze am See is a nicely restored older building located next to a decent size lake. My studio was provided with a sleeping area, a kichennete, spacious bathroom, a work desk, a sofa and dining area with a dining table and chairs with the of view of the lake. I was blessed that internet did not work, so instead of websurfing or working late at night I got good sleep. I will definitely return to explore local bike trails.
Cons: I did not know where to return the room key, so I left it inside the studio. A simple one page laminated guide with rules, internet access code, information where to leave keys, maybe suggestions for local restaurants, services and activities would do wonders,.
6.8 Good
Pros: Very pretty and very nice staff
Cons: The bed felt like it was so old it would break. It creaked and bowed so much I was terrified it would break under me any second throughout the night. I would have slept on the floor if it had been carpet.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful view!!
Cons: In the studio there is no kettle, an old stove with a damaged knob.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love the location as it was quite easily accessible. The view is absolutely stunning. I will definitely come back if I'm ever in Kaiserslautern again!
Cons: The wifi in room 3 is quite poor for connection. However that didn't bother me much!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We had a lovely studio apartment with a view over the lake. There is a Lidl supermarket 11 minutes' drive away but if you don't want to self-cater the "Italian" restaurant in the big Hotel next door is excellent value for money and the staff are very friendly, we had their delicious, homemade, spinach parmesan ravioli for 11euros each. We could also have had breakfast at the hotel next door for 12 euros each but instead we went to Lidl and bought some breakfast for the next morning (best croissants we had all holiday). Lovely situation on the lakeside but not all the apartments face the lake, we were lucky! Very friendly lady that runs the rentals, not much English but with our little bit of German we got by with no problem. Checkout is easy, pay on arrival and next morning leave the keys on the table and slam the door behind you. There are walks around the lake and you can get drinks/snacks at the café in the Hotel next door which has a lovely lakeside terrace in nice weather.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful Italian restraint 50ms away with terrace dining on the lake.
Cons: Provide coffee.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Perfect quiet location just 5 min from the busy aspects of the area. Rustic location right beside a beautiful pond. We didn't use the restaurant, but it appears very nice. This apartment isn't "glamorous"...but very clean, quaint, and has just enough to make your stay relaxing. We will definitely book again!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Very clean and comfortable. Second time at this place and I love the location and the lakes, the serenity.
Cons: My last review a year ago specifically addressed the WiFi. As and IT guys, the WiFi is located somewhere other than the apartment. The strength of it is weak. It needs to be replaced. Every room should have its own radio. It is so weak, you are lucky to have it at all. It diminishes the booking app’s feature if “it has WiFi” because it doesn’t.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: The management was not contactable all weekend . As we thought the self catering flats were part of a hotel we did not realise we had to contact them to arrange arrival. Host made no contact by text , phone or e-mail at all although there was a problem.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The apartment was fantastic. Great space and comfortable rooms. The location was peaceful.
Cons: The internet was slow to occasionally non functioning.
Burgschänke - Kaiserslautern - Building
11
8.4 Excellent (600 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Kaiserslautern, Burgschänke is within a 10-minute drive of Gartenschau Kaiserslautern and Hohenecken Castle. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. This hotel has 3 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good range of breakfast choices, out-of-town location of the property is still close enough for easy access to KSL, and as I tend to travel in a high vehicle, the ample availability of roadside parking in the immediate vicinity was a definite plus. Staff very friendly and helpful, I can heartily recommend the "comfort food" Pfälzer Leibgericht!
Cons: All good!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Simple, beautiful, personal.
Cons: Parking was limited, but lot nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Always good food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Anytime I am in the Kaiserslautern area, this is my GO TO hotel. I have been staying here for vacation and work for at least 15 years and the service and whole experience has always been TOP. The staff is very very friendly and the breakfast is the best German breakfast I have ever seen. You will not be disappointed! Don't forget to try the restaurant, it is amazing too.
Cons: Honestly, nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful staff, restaurant and garden.
Cons: We were put in a smoking room that was bad news. We powered through with wide open windows and Febreeze.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very cute place, located in suburban area. Staff was fantastic - helpful and friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, good food and great staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice room, awesome breakfast, the friendliest staff, beautiful location. What more can you ask for?
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff was friendly and welcoming, the beds were very comfortable, the shower was great and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was quite good as was dinner in the restaurant. Very peaceful, quiet, and the light fragrance of wisteria wafts in on the breeze if you open the windows. Lovely. It was less than 10 minutes drive to Pulaski Barracks from the hotel.
Cons: Stayed here 3 nights (1 night one week, 2 nights the following week) On Friday there was pumping dance music blaring from the bar/club across the street which continued into the wee hours of the morning. Lighter sleepers would definitely take issue. However, out of the 3 nights, that only happened one time. Parking is hit or miss and on the street.
6.8 Good
Pros: Location and friendly but very hurried staff. Proprietor super friendly. Beds comfortable. Missing linnen promptly provided. Parking nearby.
Cons: The room may have been an aberration. For the price I would expect a cleaner and more modern (or quainter) room. The spare bed sounded like it could fall apart at any moment, and one needed slippers to not get dirty feet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was great!

Pros: It was excellent idea to convert it into a hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I found this hotel on a list of unusual places to stay in Germany - and it certainly was a unique experience. The single person cell was surprisingly comfortable and spacious. The staff was very friendly and the hotel is centrally located. Recommended if you're looking for something different.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Unique “cell” room was a cool experience. Community shower (not co-ed) was actually great and super clean and private. Location good for seeing gardens and main town square.
Cons: Doors that lock from inside would be nice for solo female travelers. Restaurant chose to not open the night I was there. That was inconvenient.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. Fantastic buffet breakfast. Japanese restaurant food was delicious, ample, prepared by very nice people.
Cons: The bed pillow was skimpy. Besdies the Japanese Garden, there wasn't much nearby.

Pros: The location was good. The idea and concept. The look of it being an old jail. The shower and soaps. (If you bring shower shoes) communal shower!
Cons: Everything else. Customer service. The nicest person was the cleaning girl. NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! THAT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL! window was too high. The door window barely closes. It took a lot of strength. Nothing to do .no gym .no.pool. lobby has nothing but an unhappy host. No fridge. Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Irish was amazing, professional, and courteous!! She helped make my stay an amazing experience!! The rooms are beautiful and clean. And the location is perfect for a night on the town! And don't get me started on the sauna and relaxation area! 5 stars!!
Cons: N/A
7.0 Good
Pros: The suite is spacious and tastefully decorated. We really enjoyed the large bed, very large rain shower and bathtub (with pretty cool lighting...if you can get it to turn on/off). And located in the heart of the Kaiserslautern, it is a short walk to Pfalz Theater and dozens of restaurants, bars, etc.
Cons: When we arrived, we were a little concerned that the young crowd (many military) in the lobby bar would be loud into the evening. Luckily the room was extremely quite! However at 2 am, someone pulled a fire alarm and we had to get up, get dressed, walk down the stairs (from the top floor) and stand outside for over an hour with all the other guests (many very drunk and obnoxious). Not the hotel's fault...we understand that. However, we couldn't get back to sleep for several hours and when we did, we only slept for a few hours before we had to get up to check out. In an attempt to be happy with our stay I proposed to the desk that we pay a reasonable price for another night (I offered 100€) so that we could get some rest. The clerk contacted her supervisor and told us we could get a 20€ discount (off of 169€/night) or stay until 3pm. We countered with accepting the less than satisfying discount, if they comped us breakfast the following morning. She flatly refused. Honestly, the fire drill wasn't the hotel's fault (although when you attract and cater to a rowdy crowd...), but we didn't sleep well at all and left with an overall unsatisfied experience. And honestly, I doubt they will sell all their suites tonight, so they lost income AND the chance of having satisfied a customer. Too bad...we were very disappointed that they were not even willing to work a solution to not only benefit the customer, but also the housekeeping staff to not have to clean the room, guarantee of another night in the hotel for revenue, and for such a nice hotel-the management should have done more!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is right in the pedestrian zone beside the K in Lautern. Nighlife is just a 2 minute walk from room to clubs/bars, but quite enough so you dont hear it in the rooms!
Cons: There is really not anything to say about not liking. The staff was multilingual, friendly and accommodating. There is a bar and restaurant onsite. Whats not to like!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Rooms are very spacious, clean, and nicely decorated. Location is perfect, close to many cafes and restaurants, Japanese garden, although the street next to the hotel is quite busy, even at night, so it can get a little bit noisy.
Cons: Breakfast buffet isn't really worth 15 Eur, though it's not bad as such. Bathroom could use a towel hook or a more comfortable rack.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was good only had it once during our stay. Some American food was a plus.
Cons: Tried to move one day off an had to pay a bigger cancelation fee than i felt was necessary with more than 36 hrs. notice.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It is central, all shops are nearby and easy to reach
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great central location in downtown Kaiserlautern, convenient to dining, shopping, and sightseeing. A short drive to US facilities in the area. Room was fairly spacious and well-maintained. Bathroom fixtures were modern and good quality. Bathroom floor was heated -- a nice touch! Breakfast was very nice, and the bar was a pleasant space to meet and converse in the evenings. Parking garage beneath the hotel was convenient.
Cons: Shag carpeting seemed a little dated and is probably hard to maintain. There was a control for air conditioning (surprising in a European hotel), but it didn't actually cool the room. My room had an odd shower configuration -- while the dual shower heads and heated floor were nice, the entire shower was surrounded by clear glass and exposed to the rest of the room, and the sheer curtain provided no real privacy. The situation was manageable but a little awkward/inconvenient.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff went out of there way in every area. Reception. Housekeeping bar breakfast
Cons: Website did not make it clear how to get a bathtub
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location was amazing. The outside dinning was nice and the bar area had a great feel. Underground parking was easy to leave.
Cons: Th cost of parking over night was expensive. No face towels in hotel. The hotel has a lot of American visitors and we typically like face towels to bathe ourselves. If you are going for luxury add a onetime use deoderant with soaps and lotions.

Cons: Room on stairway outside hallway of rooms. Closet sized
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a perfect distance away from Kaiserslautern, placing it a little bit in the woods. Making it a nice little getaway. I was in the double rooms, and my room had a balcony view of the river. It was quite nice, and I plan on returning soon.
Cons: The only issue I had with the hotel was that the showers were fairly small.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unfortunately, the bacon ("Would you like bacon and eggs?") arrived after I'd finished the scrambled eggs! I assumed that the salami that arrived with the eggs was " the bacon". So, I ate the eggs. Had they arrived together then the rating above would have been a big smile
Cons: The coffee was dreadful. (But everything else was great)

6.3 Good
Cons: The pillows were bad, the lights were not bright enough, one light bulb was not working. When we arrived there was nobody on the reception with no contact beforehand - just a note with a number on the door. Overall the whole organisation and communication was unprofessional. For a night it's not too bad, but for the price I found it to be not good enough.

Cons: Only small criticism was no air con.

Pros: Location was good next to K-Town High school for the track event.
Cons: The price for breakfast was too much for what was offered. Suggest expanding the options for include in the cost of the room.
