The 2 night package was good value but if I had been staying only one night the hotel was not good value for money The rooms were not luxurious - although it had a sitting room the space was cramped and dark - perhaps redecoration in a more vibrant colour might do the trick. The ventilation was poor (in an attic room) and the bathroom was average -
Upon arrival our room was upgraded and the hospitality was very good, had our diner in the restaurant which was also very good. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel. The bedlinnen was too hot for the season and no real summertime bedlinnen was available in the room.
The staff was always very helpfull and willing to go the extra mile The couch and bed was a uncomfortable as it seem to be worn out
Large, quiet room and very good food; centrally located in a very attractive samll town with interesting historical sites and countryside around. One way system made it hard to find; I struggled with Dutch website entry when trying to find directions to it.
The hotel is located in the heart of Dokkum, which is a very picturesque and cute village. The staff was very helpful and the facilities clean and nice. Just 15 minutes drive from Howlred, where we caught the ferry to Ameland. The room was a bit outdated in terms of furniture and decor.
appearance and comfort of the room choice on the menu
Very pleasant staff; nice comfortable room; good ambience; good position in the town; very good restaurant
Room was very clean and the staff were friendly The new mattresses in our room were of the soft type, we prefer hard mattresses
To be in the centre of the city
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We loved the history of the whole town and also the proximity to superb countryside, cycling, walking. The hotel itself had a friendly atmosphere, the room was beautiful, staff very friendly and the central location allowed us to discover the town in the evening.
You can bring your own food. Lovely surrounds. Kind, gentle, (and quite absent) family run business. From the B&B, it is more a Bed only. For the breakfast, it was more a "do it yourself" policy... with no coffee (in the 1 euro sanseo machine). Probably ok for young people looking for a rather cheap way to travel in the area.
The B&B Farmhouse was nicely located and there was a big lobby/rest area. They advertised a sauna we were not allowed to use because it was inside the only shower room we had to share with all the other guests! We had to prepare the breakfast by ourself. It was possible to hear every word of the other guests inside our room! I guess it´s okay for a big group.
Lovely area Beds in the room weren't very comfortable
the staff is very nice and competent, the breakfast was very good, the restaurant looks very nice, the terrace at the waterfront is also lovely, food is good. the rooms smelled, I believe it came from the bathroom, the windows cannot be opened only a small one on top
very friendly staff
The hotel is near the National Park of Lauwersmeer,Dokkum is a beatifull town, the breakfast was abundant and delightful The shower without curtain,My room was very dark at night,i think that need's another lamp.
The staff were unfailingly helpful, kind, and responsive. The location, in the center of the old city, was ideal. And the hotel arranges for free parking two short blocks away from the hotel. And the breakfast served each morning was substantial, fresh, and very attractively presented. It was Spartan, but that's what I was expecting.
The friendliness of the staff and the quality of service.
Staff was helpful and location was good. The accomodations were suitable for our family but fairly dated and utilitarian. We hoped for something more characteristic of the area.
Location and the view from our room...overlooking the canal unit for hanging clothes was difficult to get to.
comfortable room and helpful pleasant staff no
Very friendley staff and clean No
Central position Paid premium rate for "Bridal Suite" expecting a better room. We were under the eaves with badly stained carpet, probably from a careless decorator many years ago right where the stain could not be ignored. Mansard roof with sloping windows so that we could not see the ground. We forgive the near-vertical staircase often found in Netherlands hotels, but not good for elderly. Poor value cooking.
Breakfast was included and it was good. Nice location in town. Nice rather old hotel but parking is not that good. The beds are single beds pushed togther to make a twin which we did not like.
friendliness of staff
The location is excellent, a perfect spot for a "get-away" holiday. See above.
As staying in a suite we found it very good. I found it pleasant to have eye contact while bathing with my wife staying in the large bed. There was no door between the batroom and the bedroom.
The clean and spacy room, the free parking The breakfast was poor and not royal as you expect from Van der Valk hotels, the rooms a bit noisy (showers of the neighbours), no elevator available, the suite we booked didn't had a jacuzzi as promissed but with a one person bubble bath, there is an open shower so you have to clean the whole bathroom afterwards
This was a good clean hotel, with very friendly staff. The rooms are basic, but well cleaned. The breakfast, included in the price, was a high standard. The Restaurant is of a very high standard and it was necessary to book in advance to secure a table since it seems that they have customers from far and wide.
Large comfortable well equipped rooms, pleasant staff and good food. Free car parking on site!
The room (large!), the friendly staff, the breakfast.
It was very comfortable and clean. We had a meal in the restaurant and we enquired if they served smaller portions because 2 of our party couldn't eat a full meal. The hotel staff agreed that they would serve a smaller portion, but they still charged the full price.
The room was comfortable and provided space. We also enjoyed the two casino machines. Breakfast was great and had a variety of food. In the bathroom there is an opening above the window, which can be opened or closed. However you have to stand on the bath in order to do that, if even possible. As a result at night when the ligt was on in the bathroom musquitos and other flying animals were able to come in. My suggestion is to install a screen in the window opening for protection.
Good restaurant, also the breakfast was good.
nicely arranged and comfortable rooms, convenient and quiet location, excellent staff, very good brekfest served at flexible hours at guests' convenience (!), everything clean and fresh if there were hairdryer and mini bar in a room it would be just perfect
Good location. Easy to find. Large room. Good selction for the breakfast. The entrance door to the room is quite thin and should be better sound isolated. If there is noise in the corridor it is heard directly inside the room.
De Parel is located on. One of the many waterways in Holland. Fascinating scenery! Quite nice little in-house restaurant with very reasonable prices. Breakfast ok. We knew this in advance, but it was quite difficult to find.
hotel staff is very attentive. the meal in the hotel restaurant is very tasty. Small, quiet place. We left the hotel early in the morning, so the hotel guy prepared the breakfast and left it for us in the fridge (omelette, juice, etc) - it was very nice!
The hotel staff were fantastic could not do enough for us. The food was super
Friendly staff, Free WiFi & parking. Good value for money. Quiet location in a sleepy little town. Good chef specials in the gastro-pub-cum-bar downstairs. Fit for purpose rooms.
Good price, wireless internet conection, nice man working in reception, nice enviroment. Seven days a week the same food at breakfast... During the whole stay the rooms weren't cleaned.
Location was great, pretty village and town is surrounded by lovely waters. The walk through to the hotel room past the back of the kitchen, fridges and stock was not nice. Then walking through the kitchen door into the hallway where you are met with an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke from the smoking room and toilets for the restuarant. Entrance and exit to hotel was also jammed full of tables, chairs and other stuff making exit difficult.
Small friendly place in queit but nice village in the countryside. Resturant there was excellent if a little pricey, but the standard was very good.
