10.0 Excellent
Pros: I honestly cannot rate this guesthouse highly enough. Yoshimi our host ensured that our stay was perfect, she was kind and always on hand when we had a question no matter how big or small. She guided us on the local area and even took us to her favourite local bar where she helped to translate and introduced us to others. Our children were greeted every morning a with a small snack and we were made to feel like family within her beautiful home. A truly authentic Japanese experience, in a wonderful Japanese home. Thank you Yoshimi.
Cons: We would have liked to stay longer!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room (with table and couch) is really spacious, warm and cozy. The large windows let in the daylight and give a wonderful view to the river (thats soothing sounds calm you down) and the island on the other side of the river with a temple and a lot of different birds, catching fishes and building nests. The owner is lovely and the japanese style breakfast awesome! :) On top, the little, cute dog with its soft fur made us smile in the morning.
Cons: Unfortunately the house is badly soundproofed. There was a family with 2 little kids in the room above us, we heard every of their steps, especially the kid's ones. :( In addition it isn't very clean, especially bathroom and kitchen could need a little renovation. The kitchen isn't equipped for cooking, more for heating up stuff, so don't count on it. :)
9.5 Excellent

For those who require internet access, the property features Wi-Fi in designated areas. This hotel makes a great place to kick back and relax after a long day of sightseeing. 9.5 Excellent
Pros: Akizuki Spa Ryokan Seiryuan was a surprise to us, located in a small village and was very surprise with its beautiful garden. All the staff very welcoming and helpful, the service was beyond expectation. Will definitely visit the place again.
Cons: For first timer, to get to the place was not easy, maybe because we came from Yufuin. However if any visitor were to get there, advice to go from Hakata Station, take the high way bus to Amagi then go to the ryokan via taxi.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at the Fuji room and loved the private onsen tubs (it had two! shallow and deep) and the ganbanyoku that came with the room. Staff service and the food were impeccable. The koi pond and the landscape of the premises were majestic. My mom loved it and she's not an easy person to please.
Cons: early check out time (10:30 am) and it's a hassle to get there but i think most, if not all, luxury onsen ryokans are somewhat hard to get to from the airport/train station.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic view and kindly staffs. Highly recommend
9.3 Excellent
Pros: all the staff was very attentive, gentle and served us at their best. the surrounding is magnificent and serene. the meals were delicious and had so many details that pleased us in every course. amenity is excellent. it is truly japanese experience.
Cons: how to get there is quite tricky. the info from google direction was wrong. i sent the 1st message thru booking.com to the hotel about the direction but didn't get a reply. (my 2nd attempt was replied 2 days after i checked out.) fortunately, the tourist info at the fukuoka airport gave me the correct info so we could finally make it there. anyway, i didn't mind this point much after the wonderful stay and the staff could pull up the info for going to our next destination very quickly.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: service, food, location, onsen baths, all perfect
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant
Cons: The bath room outside the room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: World-class with private onsen bath in each room. The toilet lids sprang to attention when approached. The drive down thru narrow mountain road made it all the more unique. Horse oil body soap was worth buying and Tachibana Pottery master rifht by the entrance was exquisite if you are into that sort of thing.
Cons: The temperature of the private room baths could have been hotter.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Every thing is good. We have good experiences. Our 2 year-old kid is so happy.
Cons: None

Pros: Almost everything! Even about the staff not being able to communicate in English. They were very sincere, and that’s the most important!
Cons: We couldn’t have meals there, because they didn’t have vegetarian option. Too bad, we really wanted to have a taste of authentic Japanese food.

Pros: Swanky, new ryokan resort located away from town in a scenic valley. Facilities and onsen are excellent. Service is great and staff tries hard even when not fluent in English. Meals were elaborate and good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location and amazing staff
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Better drive yourself as it is located up the mountain. Nice mountain view, excellent room with high standard facility, very comfortable and high service standard. Can choose our own pillow from pillow gallery. High level beautiful and delicious Kaiseki cuisine but young kids may not like as much as adults. Onsen pools are very nice, not crowded and feel private, facing green mountains and can smell the flower for outdoor pools... So relaxing .... They care about every little detail for the guests. The best stay in our Northern Kyushu trip. Must visit again as it’s worth the value.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything, onsen is excellent
7.5 Good
Pros: When checking in, the receptionist was not helpful at all. He was very rigid on our breakfast time the next morning, given no choice. The next morning, we ask another staff and without any questions asked, we were able to choose another time slot to take our breakfast at time we would like.
Cons: That particular stuff need some basic client service education. Otherwise, the facility was excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Facilities, cleanliness and location of the hotel.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: We booked the room that had out own private bath. It had a tub right outside the bathroom door and another that was further out that looked like a mini outdoor soaking pool. The water was genuine onsen water. The property itself is over 100 years old. The buildings are all packed with very interesting antiques. The staff speak Japanese, English and Korean. Free shuttle was also very convenient. Otherwise it would have been $13.00 from the hotel to the train station.
Cons: The wooden walls in the inner tub area had mildew. They don't let you bring alcohol to the dinner--you have to buy from the menu or pay a corkage fee of 1,000 yen.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent food, welcoming staff, very good hot springs
Cons: Smell in the room

Cons: This ryokan as you know is very old and antique place. There are some cold atmosphere during night time.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A traditional-style onsen ryoukan, with seperate houses to stay and amazing meals. Since Japanese bathing temperatures are usually way too hot for me, it was perfect to have my private onsen, where I could moderate the temperature. And the staff is super friendly!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is rustic and quaint and has a feel of “old” Jspsn. Staff is excellent.
Cons: No elevator. Had to carry our luggage up a shops ladder to our 2nd floor room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It is first time to me stay in ryokan. But onsen was so good ,they have outdoor onsen place we ve enjoyed. Staffs were so kind , polite. If we have any chance to stay ryokan in Hita . We will have same choice.

Pros: Excellent stay at Hotel Kazahaya. Mao is a super host who picked up my 2 friends from hita highway station and also personally picked me up at hita bus station too, which they normally do not provide. He has a very good english so there's no problem in communication at all. He's been to kind to us, send us information about the eel restrurant and we did enjoy the meal at 千屋. Delicious! We met Mao's father too during breakfast time, his service was excellent, we felt respectful! Room was nice, neat and clean, private toilet and bathroom. There were 2 massage chairs at public bath which giving us a great pleasure and relaxing time. we loved this little old town because of Mao and Hotel Kazahaya! Thank you for your professional service! Highly recommended!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All the staff were really meticulous and extremely helpful. They took their time to give us lots of recommendations, and helped us lots when we asked about transport from Hita to Yufuin. We also booked for dinner at Tokikoso on the day itself and I had forgotten to inform the staff about my mom's dietary restrictions (i.e. no beef) but they were able to come up with something on the spot. The dinner was so good! We left the restaurant with happy bellies! Additionally, at breakfast they remembered that my mom could not eat beef and altered the dish for breakfast for her. We were all so impressed by their hospitality!! Thank you so much!!

Pros: Meals are perfect both dinner and breakfast

Pros: Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Great staff.
Cons: Didn't like that the onset was open to the public. Sharing the reception area with a young group keen to use the baths isn't my idea of a good hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Foods was good and staffs are very friendly and nice!!
Cons: They gave us only one bath towel each. So we had to bring our own towel when we go to bath..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I really loved everything! : Nice and helpful staffs, Locations(It is far from the town but there is a pick-up service), Food(dinner&breakfast both are amazing), Onsen(Public onsens are big&nice, Private onsens are need to be reserved and also amazing). and they upgraded our room, so me and my sisters stayed in the big room near the waterfall. It costs almost 250 dollars per person to stay here(including the meals), but it worth it.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building is breathtaking and we could see the waterfall from the outdoor onsen and also from our private outdoor onsen (attached to our room). The staff were extremely nice and took care of everything for us and took the time to give us a tour of the property when we checked in. The dinner was an amazing banquet that left everyone full and happy.
Cons: Towels aren’t supplied on the upstairs outdoor onsen and it can be a bit cold showering outside (in some rooms and the upstairs onsen).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staffs! Especially the man who served dinner and the woman who served lunch after checking out. I didn’t know their names but I’d like to say ‘Thank you soooo much’. And they remembered my birthday and gave me a small gift. I felt so warm and happy :)
Cons: There’re some hair pieces in the room and there was a bit of a smell inside our toilet :(
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a delightful time in Sanso Tensui. The place is beautiful nested near a mountain river which you can see and hear. The garden is beautiful, even in winter with its beautiful paths and green moss covering trees and rocks. The staff is warm, welcoming and very attemptive. The rooms are beautiful with views on the nature. The onsen both public (try the one with the view on the fall) and private (all with views on the river) are so restful. And the food is absolutely exquisite with 10-course meals, both for breakfast and dinner. I really highly recommend this Ryokan to experience the best of what Japan can offer, all in kindness.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was perfect.

There is a cute cafe/bar next door, also owned by the owner, as well as a river across the street, great for walks. The property itself is clean, with modern amenities including washer/dryer, kitchen/dining space that is very spacious for Japanese standards, with nice Japanese woodwork/carpentry touch throughout. Cons: Would have enjoyed a coffee maker!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was great experience and I felt Hita so much. I had one day business trip to Ohita pref. and chose the place to stay the night. The location is great. It is very convenient to go to Hakata, Aso Kumamoto, down-town in Ohita, and other places. It is kind of middle of the area, so I am very happy to find there. In the room, there is a kitchen, so I want to cook by myself ( I did not use this time) and would like to stay longer next time. I saw a lot of Hita Cedar in room, floor and pillar. I am very comfortable with traditional Japanese room with the wood and Tatami floor. It’s very cool. I went down stair to drink little bit before I went to bed. The bar had several customers who are from the area and were very friendly for me. We had drinks together and they taught me lot things of Hita City like good lunch/dinner restaurants and viewpoints. It was great time with them! Thank you, I met there!! I am sure that I am going back there with my family next time!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was kind and helpful and the river views outside the hotel are really stunning! Hita is such a good place for staying, quiet and comfortable.
6.3 Good
Pros: The onsen was wonderful and so was the salt sauna. The breakfast booth was great too. The staff did their best including one hopping in my car to take me to another car park as theirs was full.
Cons: The room which I nicknamed the disco room - black and silver floor to ceiling wallpaper on one side. Just because I am a foreigner doesn't mean I want to sleep in a bed. I book a Ryokan to sleep in a futon. The room was VERY noisy with machinery from the surrounding ryokans. Plus I left early one day and they couldn't prepare a Bento breakfast which many other places do and they didn't offer any refund. A very old traditional Ryokan but for the price I've stayed in way better places. Oh and other non-Anglo foreigners let their long wet hair flow everywhere in the onsen, didn't use towels nor clean up but that's not the ryokan's fault.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was great! Loved the location.
Cons: They had the same breakfast every day.

Even though only her daughter can speak moderate English, they are very helpful and trying to help us on any matter, for example, having her head chef to help us carry our 3 big luggage to the 3rd floor. Dinner and breakfast are great considering price. Parking is free and right in front of the main door. Room is quite small but very comfy. Since there is no bed, my 1 year old daughter can safely staying in the room on the futon floor.
Cons: This hotel has no elevator, only stairs. The room has no private shower room, but they have quite big washing tub and toilet in the room. The onsen temperature in the public shower room is not right (not hot enough).

7.0 Good
Pros: A very Japanese historical house in a very Japanese neighbourhood.
Cons: Security seems an issue with only a glass door although Japan is a safe country. Do not know why my nose keep running when I'm on the ground floor of the house. Check in and check out time must be agreed with the host beforehand. A bit lack of flexibility.
