Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotell - Myrdal - Lounge
1
8.8 Excellent (661 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotell in Aurland, you'll be 10.8 mi (17.4 km) from Flam Marina and 29.1 mi (46.9 km) from Naeroyfjord. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Bed too soft
7.7 Good
Pros: Very clean. Food was fantastic. Staff were helpful. Also, could not beat the view. If you enjoy small towns and great views, this is the place for you.
Cons: The price was pretty high considering we had to share a bathroom and shower with others on the floor. Since the town is so small, they definitely have you trapped for their $35 dinner, but the food was great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such nice stay! Extra friendly and nice staff (specially light haired lady!), many gorgeous corners in the house to explore and be cozy in the evenings. Food was FANTASTIC especially dinner and waffles. Was kind of them to let us leave our bags after check out so we could explore the snow. Will definitely come again!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a lounge area separate to the bedroom. I liked the individuality of the decor
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room, location (few steps from Flam railroad), stafff, breakfast - everything was prefect
Cons: Room was little bit cold (November) - some time required for heating
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel did exceed my expectations! I was arriving late in the evening, so they met me at Myrdal station and drove all the way up to the door. The room was warm, same as the floor in the bathroom. Coffee was very nice, and I had the hottest bread for breakfast. But the best thing was the property's neighborhood. I greatly enjoyed walking around in the morning and taking pictures of all the mountains. Highly recommended to visit. Now I want to see the place in green colors and try the rope way.
Cons: It's not so easy to reach the hotel in winter evening. If there is a lot of snow, the car wouldn't be able to pass. So it's better to be at Myrdal station before the last train to Vatnahalsen departs (around 18:00).
7.9 Good
Pros: Comfort in the wild—easy to go hiking, biking, zip lining in a vast natural setting, while retreating to a comfortable room with excellent food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was all buffet and was unbelievable. Areas and lounges to relax were wonderful and so relaxing. Staff were excellent. Owner/manager was always there and willing to help organize trips whether it was biking, hiking or ziplining. Location was beautiful and right on one of the worlds best tourist train platforms.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: We really enjoyed the setting of the hotel, nestled in on the hill. Looking out to the fjord and over the city was like looking at a postcard. The town is quite picturesque!
Cons: The bed was not the most comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in Eidfjord after hiking Trolltunga, and it was the perfect place to relax and refuel after the hike. The property is beautiful, room was clean, staff was very friendly, and dinner was delicious! Be sure you stop at the fruit stands set up on the road on your way into Eidfjord... and don't miss the authentic gelato stand down near the water (2-minute walk from the hotel).
Cons: Nothing - it was great!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: nice view, cozy atmosphere
Cons: bathroom is not very modern
8.0 Excellent
Cons: The hotel could have shown sport on a TV in the lounge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautiful views and lovely food, friendly staff, perfect stay!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The view of the fiord from the restaurant was great! We arrived after 9 pm and the kitchen was closed but Marcus(?) went out of his way to solve our problem and we finally got to eat a delicious lasagna! Breakfast was plentiful and they even put out wax paper and platic bags so you could fix your own sandwich for the hike! Great idea than you so much! Another great idea for the guests is a self service laundry facilty!
Cons: It was all great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: nothing
Utne Hotel - Utne - Building
3
8.7 Excellent (273 reviews)
Overview Reviews

It houses an 18th century dining room, and offers unique, historical-style accommodation. Rooms at Hotel Utne are located in the main building. They include private bathrooms with a shower. Rooms are without TVs and radios to preserve the old-fashioned atmosphere. Breakfast and meals based on fresh, local ingredients are served in the historical dining room. The Hardanger Folk Museum is located within 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel. The city of Bergen is a 122 km drive away.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Site view and staff
Cons: No air con Opposite noisy ferry so with the windows open for air it was industrial strength noisy early each morning
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel with special atmosphere. We had a great dinner and wonderful breakfast.
7.5 Good
Pros: Dinner, cider tasting and breakfast were excellent. Common areas were very nice with drink service and a great view of the fjord and ferries coming and going.
Cons: We had a large bed which was great, but my side was saggy. I tend to prefer a softer mattress so for those who prefer it firm it would likely be even more noticeable. The roller shade was broken so I couldn’t raise the shade in the mornings. The entire hotel had a very charming historic feel (est. in 1722!) except our room itself which just felt modern-day dated, rather than historically charming.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The building is an old Norwegian house and it’s very well maintained. Cosy, clean and very confortable. Dinner is amazing, a must if you go there. Location is great if you want to spend a quiet time along the fjords or just a nice stop on uour way up to Odda.
Cons: I wisehd it was a bit cheaper.
6.7 Good
Pros: Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Evening meal was extremely disappointing and very expensive, even for Norway. Hotel is directly opposite the ferry port, which is fine if you're interested in a view of boats and cars.
7.9 Good
Pros: Historic hotel with loads of unique charm. Excellent staff. Excellent gourmet dinners but expensive.
Cons: Tiny bathroom with clumsy shower that flooded bathroom. Difficult to carry bags up 2 spiral staircases. No other options to eat in the tiny village. Expensive.
Jaunsen Gjestgjevarstad - Granvin - Building
4
8.6 Excellent (389 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Just a few minutes’ walk from Granvin Station and Harbour, Jaunsen Gjestgjevarstad offers home-cooked Norwegian cuisine, free Wi-Fi and free private parking. Voss is 25 minutes’ drive away. All guest rooms feature traditional décor and a private bathroom with shower. The in-house restaurant serves lunch and dinner. On weekends, guests can relax and play darts in the hotel pub. The surrounding Hardanger region is famous for its varied, dramatic nature. The Gjestgjevarstad’s staff can help arrange hiking, fishing and other activities.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The inn is such a special place. Its like going back in time, the furniture, the lights all the decoration gives you a great idea of how people have lived in this house! And the staff was so friendly and helpful. Thank you Eli for your hiking tip! We made it to the top of Mt Olken and enjoyed the fanastic view!!
Cons: There could be more pegs to hang towels in the bathroom.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff was super friendly. Breakfast was included and was great
Cons: WiFi was slow
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Dinner and the helpfulness of the staff, especially in helping to carry our suitcases up the narrow stairs to our room. Because of the level of service, the quality of the dinner and breakfast, we asked whether the hotel was family run and they said that while it was not family owned they all thought of themselves as a family.
Cons: The hotel is very close to the main road, but is not really a dislike since given the industry by the lake the location of the hotel is able to provide an idyllic lake-view which blocks this out. (We didn’t even see the factory until we took a walk before dinner.)
6.3 Good
Pros: It was a good opportunity to experience an old Norwegian house. Homemade foods in the restaurant but that's not my cup of tea.
Cons: Breakfast was poor. The food looked like the leftover of the other day. The bathroom was uncomfortable. And the bed was too soft for me.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful hosts. Clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Beautifully decorated, stylish old (established 1674) restaurant with plenty of books, a piano, and a charming glass patio. Lovely old wooden rustic breakfast room. Very good breakfast with a wide range of options to choose from.
Cons: Staying in an upper floor room of a building from 1674 has also the disadvantage of having a sloping floor, low ceilings, and too small windows to make it possible to read without artificial light. No kettle or refrigerator in the room (but if you ask for hot water, you'll get it quickly, so that's not a great problem after all). Internet in the rooms broke down, it was reliable only in the restaurant (but maybe that's fixed already).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: So cute house!!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: An excellent guesthouse. a very nice and pleasant service. Very good meals: breakfast and dinner. An old place with very pleasant atmosphere. We felt at home. Highly recommended.
Cons: A lot of stairs.
Fossli Hotel - Eidfjord - Bedroom
5
8.5 Excellent (576 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Situated in a late 19th century Art Noveau-style building overlooking the Måbø Valley, Fossli Hotel offers free Wi-Fi and rooms with private bathrooms. Vøringsfossen Waterfall is next to the hotel. Guests at Hotel Fossli can enjoy their meals at the on-site restaurant. Drinks and light meals are available in the bar and cafeteria. A buffet breakfast is served daily. The hotel’s mountain-top location provides guests with stunning views of Vøringsfossen. A souvenir shop is available on-site. Guests can also relax with a book from the hotel library. A 9-hole golf course is situated 3 km away. Hardangervidda National Park is a 25-minute drive from the hotel.
7.9 Good
Pros: Service and restaurant. The view of course.
Cons: Perhaps a bit too run down. Rooms are very basic, and the tap water in general needs to be filtered from the brown material in it. Tastes ok though.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Norway’s answer to the Grand Budapest Hotel
Cons: Breakfast could have had more alternatives for eggs (fried, omlet)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location, cleanliness, interior. Fresh fish for dinner. Everything you need after a long day drive.
Cons: No omletes or porridge for breakfast, only snacks and yogurts
10.0 Excellent
Pros: just a few steps away from one of the most gorgeous waterfall in Norway period. I was there during late summer, and would definitely visit back different time of the year to see the contrast from surrounding area. The hotel should be a museums with antique items everywhere from silver wear to dining halls.
Cons: Nothing but outstanding.
7.1 Good
Pros: The view was amazing and breakfast was good. The staff were lovely and it had a lot of really interesting history and artefacts.
Cons: The room was cold due to it being an old building. The water temperature was difficult to get right. The local water was probably lovely but it was brown which was a bit off putting.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location was beautiful, staff was always accommodating but never intrusive. The hotel is rustic and quiet, which is just what we wanted. We wished we could have stayed much longer. The dinner and breakfast were both delicious and generous. Though there is no fridge in the room, the restaurant staff graciously held our dinner leftovers in their fridge for us to take-away the next day.
Cons: From what we could tell, there was no easy way to roll heavy luggage into the hotel; there is no ramp, but only a flight of 10 or so steps to drag or lift your luggage. Also due to its perfect location over the falls, your quiet moments in the cozy cafe or salon will occasionally be inundated by the next bus-load of tourists stopping by to take photos and grab a snack by the warm fireplace.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The very best location to view and enjoy the marvelous waterfalls at Vøringfossen. Nice hotel with an atmosphere reminding of a bygone times. We had a spacious room with a balcony overlooking Vøringfossen, and it is special to stand on the balcony watching the mist from waterfalls drifting away. Both dinner and breakfast were of a high quality.
Cons: The room could do with a fresh layer of paint. We had problems to find the hotel. Not the hotel's fault of course, but a Google maps inaccuracy! If you depend on Google Maps to find your way in a foreign country (as we do), I suggest to enter Fossli Kryss, from here the road to the hotel is well sign posted.

7.9 Good
Pros: Location Location Location, plenty of cosy and stylish reception areas, free tea and coffee all day, good amenities
Cons: Buffet as well as a la carte- vegetarian options very limited!
7.1 Good
Pros: Outside sauna on the deck made the whole trip worth it!
Cons: The food. The buffer for FORHUNDRETEIGHTY NOK was way below all reasonable standard. Road side-quality. For that price I expect better.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: View amazing from balcony and big room
Cons: Had to pay extra for outdoor sauna facilities, and steam room not working
6.7 Good
Pros: The view from our room was great.
Cons: I was incredibly disappointed that there were no laundry facilities. Part of our travel plans was to wash all of our clothing here. There is no reason that a hotel this size does not have a washer and dryer available. It also appeared that most of the focus was on large tour groups.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location was nice.
Cons: The whole operation seems geared for the tour-bus crowd, leaving me as a solo traveler to the side. Dinner price was exorbitant. Breakfast options minimal. The touted sauna was locked up early in the evening. Not operated to my taste.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The wonderful location and stunning scenery is what this hotel is all about. The public areas in the hotel were all comfortable. The food was good (not exceptional but good). We booked a fjord view room and it was worth paying extra. Ulvik is a really good place to stay.
Cons: The beds are not comfortable even though they are new and have a mattress lining. Such a pity as otherwise the rooms were decent. The bathrooms are a little small. As many others have mentioned, this hotel caters to tour buses so it can get a little chaotic around reception as they arrive. Otherwise they didn’t bother us. Smaller groups can eat dinner in the lobby with its wonderful view rather than being in the dining room with the big tour crowds.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel
Cons: Breakfast is very limited
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location and the view
Cons: Mattress too soft

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are friendly and very helpful and run a small kitchen for dinner and breakfast: it was delicious (grilled catch of the day). The location is superb and only a short walk into Ulvik centre which has great views of the fjord.
Cons: The room was clean and presentable, but slightly dated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice and tasty breakfast, good coffe, tea and coffe also available all day. Room which we have got, was towards river, very quiet. Simple, but everything we needed with nice veranda and floor heating in bathroom and electrical heating in bedroom. Also nice veranda to sit outside
Cons: Nothing, all good!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A little bit old fashioned hotel, with very good breakfast. What I missed was kettle in the room but we can have a tea and coffee at the dining room for all day. Staff were very kind, friendly, helpful, open for additional request (I asked for a fridge and it was delivered to the room). Beds were comfortable, rooms - clean. The price could be lower:)
Cons: would be good to make a refresh of rooms equipment
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location and nice cabins with a lake nearby that you can take a swim in. Staff was wonderful too.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location, by the lake. Excellent breakfast, helpfull staff. There's a camping place across the road, and there's a possibillity to use shared kitchen.
Cons: Breakfast should start maybe at 7:00 or at least 07:30, because travelers sometimes needs to leave earlier.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Check-in and checkout was very simple, all given information by mail was easy and clear - located directly on Fjord with own beach - beds comfortable - Wi-Fi stable - kitchen well equipped
Cons: We had a cottage for 5 persons. Was ok for us two, but for 5 people too small - For 1000 NOK per night shower must be included. Instead 100 NOK are to be paid! This is the main reason our rating is rather low - Just two sinks/toilets/showers for the whole camping site is much too less. - in the cottage we had a kitchen sink, which however was not connected. So no use at all - Ulvik seemed a quite dead village. All restaurants were closed (on Monday and Tuesday mid August - off season?)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed a good time with twins Mihai and Cosmin whose gave us a great stay at Hardanger Gjestehus. The environment it self is beautiful and quiet. We recommend to visitors to try burgers for a dinner.
Cons: Nothing.
