Central situation! Your clerical provisions need improvment! The opening line of this enquiry has opened with 'Dear Ferris' Perhaps a prefix of 'Mr.' would have been wise!! Soft drinks were ridiculously expensive!
We like the location of the hotel, on both our stays we had sea view rooms and our next stay will also be in a sea view room to make the most of the location. We think that Southend had been improved by the redevelopment of the Hotel. Our first stay was one night and the second two nights, our only complaint is the cost of parking and leaving our car in the car park opposite. The first stay cost us approximately £15.00 and the second £24.00. I completely understand that the car park is not the hotels juresdiction but the discount the hotel gets for its guests is a paltry one.
Good Security with swipe cards. Very clean and well appointed rooms. Hotel very tidy all round and in good location. N/A
Good location, nice room, nice bar, 12pm checkout £20 premium for sea view is a bit high. No hotel car park
the hotel staff, the location and the food were abolutely fantastic.you cannot get any better than dat. well done everything was absolutely perfect for me
We were upgraded to a beautiful sea-view room on the fifth floor. The room was spacious, clean and the air conditioning ensured a comfortable sleep No bad points
Good size room, not too hot The desk clerk on my arrival was slow and unfriendly (All the rest o fteh staff were lovely)
Clean spacious hotel. Comfy room, nice bathrom and good size bath towels! Love the art work everywhere. Hairdrier a bit hard to use and a bit weak but worked .
Extremely clean room, lovely flat screen on well, very comfy bed. This hotel has a lovely residents bar and is right at the end of the high street. You could not get a better location. Nothing we got to check in v. early, got our room slightly upgraded, staff were lovely, tea & coffee in our room - no negatives.
Nice hotel, good facilities No improvement on breakfast, often cold or without hot drinks
Staff were helpful and friendly The rooms lacked maintenance, with some basic faults not fixed. e.g Shower head loose and needing holding to use.
The restaurant The bathroom was pathetic, thetoilet didn't flush we had to use the waste bin. After reporting it it only worked once after the repair.A tile fell of the side of the sink unit & parts of the formica was missing.
Very nice girl staff
location next to sports center where my daughter was competing breakfat cold
Good value for money. Food (Breakfast) was lovely. Decor was dated, but kept very clean.
I have stayed there before and the staff are always welcoming. When I asked to be moved to a quieter room away from traffic, this was dealt with quickly and without fuss.
convenient to location shower could have been better
Good value hotel. Decent breakfast and good evening meals. Bargain prices and a good choice overall. Would happily stay there again.
It is a very well run hotel with friendly helpfull staff and when I did have a slight problem in the early hours it was resolved without any fuss. keep up the good work.
Enjoyed every moment we were there.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent food and very good choice. General cleanliness throughout. Our only complaint was that whereas we were booked in for 5 nights,Monday to Saturday - we were very disturbed to have our bill pushed under the door early on Friday morning which informed us that we were expected to check out that day. The young lady on the Reception Desk was extremely helpful and did get it sorted out, but we feel that it was something that should not have occurred.
Staff were extremely helpful and made the stay... None
The staff was very welcoming. The hotel is very clean and the food was excellent.Very pleased with everything.
Great location, right on the seafront, lovely views from the restaurant area out across the bay. Comfortable, modern, clean, friendly, good parking facilities. Breakfast was first class. Bathroom was very cold even with the towel radiator on. I stayed in one of the junior suites on the top floor, with no central heating. Heating was via the air conditioning unit, central heating would have been much preferable.
pleasent and friendly staff good food
Lovely hotel and great food My room was a shoebox, but I guess you get what you pay for. Also, I was told at reception that breakfast was not served until 8.30 on weekends. I needed to leave for my work by 8.30. I discovered that breakfast started at 8.00 when I went a few minute early to see if I could grab something. I trust this will be corrected as I passed the info onto the hotel.
The position is excellent. It was a short walk from Thorpe Bay station. Every one was very friendly. The sun shone! The hotel is quite shabby in places. Could do with a lift
Lovely atmosphere in restaurant & terrace Room very hot. No hot water for shower/wash. Light over mirror in bathroom flashing on & off all night.
Proximity to airport - London Southend. NA
Nice pleasant clean hotel. Very close to Southend airport! No problems with noise. Car park fairly cramped and you might end up a fair walk away from the hotel. Staff were very friendly. The room was fairly small but as I expected. I'd be very upset if I'd paid the full room rate! always look around for a discounted price!
room was warm, clean, quiet. Bathroom excellant, even had a proper hairdryer. Staff helpfeul, efficient and smart. Could have been more tea bags and milk in hospitality tray, but on mentioning at reception were told they would have been happy to deliver more. As it was past one am didn't think it worth it.
The quiet. The helpfulness of the waitress at breakfast. No answer to phone calls. No night porter.
The location, friendly staff, being above the pub, the breakfast, design of room, view from room and restaurant, ease of booking online, checking in and out.
Overall stay was very good and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had no blind up in the bathroom and mentioned it to one of the staff in the bar in the evening and it was dealt with the following day. Very good location for visiting family in Chatham and local amenities.
The bedrooms were comfortable and the decor had an interesting nautical theme. Don't be put off by the look of the exterior; it's much nicer inside. The lighting in the bedroom was very dim and the room was cold. Breakfast service was slow on the Sunday morning.
It was very close to local amenities and staff and hotel were very good As it was New Year Weekend both fish dishes on menu were not available on both nights we dined there. As a non meat eater this left me with limited choice
Situation good. It was a very busy pub not a hotel. Restaurant quality and selection fair. Reception desk was anyone one could get hold of behind the bar which was heaving!!!
Friendly, helpful staff. Offered smoking room but now have none.
location , location , location
Location Could not get a drink 10.15pm 30th Dec? (Towels up)? No food New Years day (Breakfast) although guests were staying at the Hotel! No-one told. Limited food bar area. Very noisy rooms. Pets allowed to stay in rooms although told Pets not allowed. Carpets very dirty. Guests rooms wall very thin. Could hear everything through walls? Next doors toilet backed onto our Bedhead? The lady may as well have been in the same room, very embarressing. Hotel very tired and needs a total revamp. Given its location (on marina) Sheperd & Neame needs to splash the cash!! and soon.
friendly staff, good food at reasonable prices, real ales. rooms were very hot, so, some better form of air conditioning would be good, secure parking as we were on motorbikes.
The historic significance and the hotel's representation of all that is good and traditional about English "superior guest-house" hospitality. I seriously cannot think of any.
Polite staff and good breakfast.
The room was comfy, spacious and lovely decor, view of sea was lovely to wake up to Nothing at all
Nothing The central heating didn't work. I was welcomed by a confused say 15 year old boy. there was a birthday party of the 13 year old daughter in the residents lounge. I didn;t get the seaview room I boooked. they didn;t eeven have my on line booking. In fact there was not on redeeming facot.
slept as i was working localy
The room was a sea view room and very large, bedroom and bathroom very clean, very very close to southend pier and amusements and to the town centre itself bed was hard but that is a personal prefernce and not one that should be held accountable towards the hotel, the noise from the floorboards from the room above was rather loud both in the night and in the morning so not one for the light sleeper
I did not like the size of the room it was far to small is my knees were touching the shower when sat on the loo. The drains needed sorted as this caused my room to smell and it was far to cold.
friendly staff. was made welcome. nothing
friendly helpful, clean and tidy value for money
The nice proprietors
The hotel is in a quiet location, close to the beach with parking, staff were polite and the room was clean and comfortable I expected a greater variety of food but what was available was good
The hotel was clean, warm and the staff friendly. The breakfast was outstanding. The location was ideal and we really enjoyed our stay 100% No not at all
The staff attitudes towards visitor Yes our pravcy was invaded twice by the domestic and this really upset me.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Staff helpful and welcoming Parking arrangements a disappointment, low shower pressure, slightly shabby decor, noise of heating system from early hours. This would be ok as a 2 star but is a poor 4 star and I cant see how this is comparable to other 3 star hotels in the area.
Comfortable room and substantial breakfast Bedroom furniture a little dated
Awesome, fantastic, welcoming staff. This extended through from reception to managers who were hard working and extremely helpful. I may well need to stay in Southend again, and would return to this hotel without hesitation. My wife booked this hotel based on feedback from previous guests, and I was not disappointed. It's probably a bit pricey - but in view of the value, I would be prepared to ignore that in the future. You always get what you pay for, and this place is seriously good.
The friendly and helpful staff
The breakfast was really good (a lot of choise), and staff was nice and friendly and the location is very good. was noisy. In front of the hotel were few tables and chairs. Other guests were noisy, and we couldnt sleep.
It was comfortable and included a good breakfast. It happened to be in the town where I needed to stay. The separate toilet was a minor nuisance.
Their breakfast was good as well as the good choice of TV channels The seperate toilet and the uncomfortable mattress
The added touches. soap, dressing gown, clean cup & kettle. tissues in room, fan. variety/extra tea bags, coffee ect, biscuit. Good working shower. Not applicable
Lovely breakfast, with fresh tomatoes and mushrooms. I arrived just before 7am and they were ready to serve. I was abke to get bbc radio 3 and 4 easily.
Made to feel welcome, very comfortable room and delicious breakfast.
The proximity to where I needed to be and the free wifi The lack of pressure in shower
could come and go as you please
Freindly, although we have stayed there last year and ten years ago.
Friendly staff, cleanliness, breakfast, architectural design of building Toilet was cold, decor could be better
Good clean family run hotel. Pleasant staff, good facilities and close to attractions. a great bar/bistro with a seaside outlook was situated on the beach a few yards away. None
Very friendly owners
Lovely styled room, nice suprise. loved the sofa. loads of tea, sugar and milk always an asset Heating didnt work. toilet was heavily stained and smelt, holes in the sheets blinds didnt close at the bottom, had to stand on sofa to draw the curtain. fire alarm sounds 'fire in zone 1. there wasnt any members of staff on site so I dealt with it, muting the alarm and calling a number. My guess is a smoker but if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble
Warm welcome, friendly atmosphere made me feel very at ease.
Location. Breakfast. Owners. Almost booked a nearby place at half the price, but was swung by the prospect of an 'Executive Room'. The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed
Very friendly owner and freshly decorated.
The room was clean and well stocked with tea and coffee, the staff were friendly.
the room service was amazing, food presented better tuen in restaurant massages not very good as just seemed to be rubing in the oils! long service wait in restaurant
Staff were well trained and keen to oblige. They willingly moved me to another room when I mentioned to them that the corridor outside the non smoking room room smelled strongly of smoke. This was meant to be a non smiking hotel. Breakasts were good. Parking was plentiful. Corridors occasionally smelled of smoke although this was a non smoking hotel. More reinforcement needed to ensure no-one smokes in the hotel at all.
Staff were excellent food good and happy to prepare food not on menu All room sground floor, impossible to switch heater off not possible to leave room open all night
The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and polite. The picture quality on the television was appalling on virtually all channels, otherwise my stay was very pleasant and most enjoyable.
Lovely hotel radiator in room did not work
Good service & excellent breakfast Food was a bit strange in the evening - (cucumber jelly??)
Dining was good and we were well served by the staff who were very attentive. Breakfast was very good also The hotel was cold and my room was very cold being on the top floor. `it was near the lifts which was helpful.
Sheets and blankets! Duvets would be much more comfortable
The whole experience - the room was very comfortable; the staff were really helpful and friendly; the breakfast was excellent. We also had the Sunday lunch carvery which was really good, and excellent value. My parents complained that they were disturbed by loud music from a wedding party, but since this finished at 11pm they were able to get to sleep reasonably early.
Hotel is maintained to a high standard, staff very friendly rooms are small
Peace and quite
The staff were pleasant and the breakfast good. The room was good too and the bed comfortable. We were located opposite the hotel in the annexe across a small alley leading to the car park, which we didn't know about beforehand. Very open, but on a rainy windy night, not pleasant getting to the other side. No faults otherwise except for lack of hairdrier in room maybe?
The room was fantastic, it was a suite. the views were beautiful in the daylight and at night. The food was really good, and reasonably priced as was the bar. I liked the separate apartments block with their own entrance. The breakfast was very good and fresh.
It's location was ideal for my purposes My wife is not good on stairs
Very nice hotel. 1 mile from the pier so encouraged walking. Large carpark at the back which was great.
The room was smart and clean. The bathroom was particulary new and fresh. No TV remote control in the room. Feint smell of cigarette smoke. Breakfast ok but serve yourself.
The view from the suite window. Cook, turned up for breakfast after we did when we were there waiting at 8am. The waitress was also distraught waiting for him to turn up as she could not get into the hotel. We wanted an early start for a 6 hour drive to Cornwall but had to wait for breakfast as we had already decided to have breakfast before we left, but had to wait for a young cook (not chef) to turn up for work because he was probably pissed from the night before and didn't care about any of the guests. Not very professional and I would certainly dismiss him on this occasion. Gives young people who really want to work a bad name. He doesn't deserve a job.
We had a most comfortable stay and enjoyed dinner on the night we arrived. The staff were excellent and helpful. We had trouble finding the hotel mainly because of the road works in town and it was dark when we arrived but it would have hleped had the hotel's name been more prominently displayed. Parking was not a problem. There was nothing we did not like. As stated, we had a very comfortable stay.
it was very clean and the staff were helpful. Good location too.
Staff were very friendly Breakfast was extremely poor and in my view unacceptable after having paid over £90 for two of us
we found the accomodation clean and fairly comfortable, the room sizes were generous and the breakfast was excellent value for money I found the checking in process very slow
Very convenient for my business visit, Parking available, decent accomodation, security precautions.in place Breakfast next door a disappointment. Not value for money, Too much like a supermarket style
Staff, service, sleep quality, excellent en-suite, cleanliness, location. Wifi cost too high but free wifi availabile in Halfway House pub just outside.
I liked the way the hotel was on the sea front and not to far away from the main southend. eg pier, town and amusements I did'nt like the shower. It was'nt very powerfull and the water flow was rubbish.
very helpfuk staff on reception and the night porter was excellent The total breakfast was a farce , the service was appaling , slow service and a didnt give a dm attitude .The buffet was poorly replenished and there were not any beakers for coffee only cups , no saucers
Ver near to location required, friendly helpful staff. Was a bit surprised to be asked for id when I requested to pay by cash.
Friendly and chatty staff who were always approachable. Extremely comfy beds.
Very comfortable beds None
the breakfast. the room was noisy, and although its a non smoking hotel, smoke was coming into the room from people standing outside. the room was next to the railway line and main road and even with the window closed it was very noisy.
As my wife and myself are in found it a bit confusing finding you as I booked on line but didn't see any details about the name of the hotel that I expected to find by the the roadside instead of the Bobbing Apple, with the Hotel tucked cosily away behind it but after 3 tries I eventually found you. I have written this summary in the good points summary box as the the wife reckons I'm a silly old fool and put it down to my age, therefore I could'nt very well put in the bad points box. Seriously though we Both agreed it was a most pleasantly comfortable friendly Hotel with First Class Staff which all went to towards making a stay a Great One. Thank You All, sincerely Brian and Jean Pout See above
Very friendly staff and very clean and comfortable room
We liked the big bed and the uncluttered room. Plenty of hot water and the facilities were all clean and well ordered-just what you hope to get. Staff exceptionally helpful location-but it was as I expected-nowhere to have a gentle stroll after supper
Very helpful and friendly staff. Good value, unpretentious food (we had dinner and breakfast) We feel that at £80 for the room, there should be toiletries provided as part of the cost.
the situation as it allowed us to visit our children without any problems, and the convenience of being able to come and go as we pleased. Yes New Years Day after booking in the morning for an evening meal for 3 for 8.30. We received a letter under the door to say would we like to go earlier as they were closing at 8. We went at 7.45 and were twice told they were not cooking. We saw many people turned away.
it was all i expected it wasn't there fault but they had no record of my booking
We were using premier inn as a bed for the night whilst visiting friends in the area. for this purpose it was adequate, clean and well located. we paid £55/night so considered this to be reasonable value for somewhere we really only wanted to rest our heads.
Excellent at reception on arrival, the room was just right for an overnight stop. Nothing
The bedding was in two parts and so soft....i was travelling with my female (just friend) sharing the costs so the two part bedding was superb! Spider in the bath, the paint work by the headboard could be touched up....the window latches were a bit loose.
Very nice room, large double bed and the food the fitness centre was very small only three pieces of equipment to use.
the road next to our room was noisy .
The room - very nicely styled, lovely sized & comfortable bed The wait in the restaurant - very slow to serve food (waited 20minutes for apple pie!) and there was only five other diners, so being too busy was not an excuse
The hotel was in a lovely location. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The cooked breakfast the following morning was a welcome surprise as we thought we were only having continental! I would definitely recommend this hotel.
We had a executive room, The bed was very comfortable No air con in bedroom night temp was about 26 degrees, Extractor fan in bathroom not working, No tea/coffee facilities in room these were in the corridor so if you wanted a drink you had to get dressed to get it. Restaurant not open on saturday night,
Staff very helpful. Some of the moans in the reviews have been rectified. Very good value for money. The widest bed I have ever slept in, in an hotel. Being alongside a main road, the room suffered from from the passing traffic.
The peace, the surprise cooked breakfast and it being just across the road to the beer festival.. No soft door closers
Ambience Shower not powerful enough
Efficiency, and free wireless connection No
At time of reservation I asked for cot as I said I was travelling with my young son. On arrival the cot wasn't in the room and my room was on the second floor. Not ideal when I arrived with my son in his pram as there is no lift! Someone helped carry the front of the pram up the spindle staircase while I followed behind with the heavier part of the pram and bag hanging on the pram and a rucksack on my back. Not ideal at all. When I was checking out I rang reception 3 times for help, they didn't even bother to answer the phone. I started to try and get down the stairs myself with my bags and son. Some helpful work staff on the first floor came to my rescue. The receptionist would have realised this and didn't even bother to apologise.
Nice environment and a very good restaurant My colleague and I booked early morning alarm calls for 8.30 am (just as a backstop in case we slept through our own alarms). It was annoying that, for both of us, we got these calls at 6.00 am and no calls at 8.30 am. I could not get back to sleep again after the 6.00 am call!
Immaculately clean room, excellent breakfast and evening meal. Friendly and helpful staff. Nothing
Lovely room (no 14), huge bed, excellent customer service and delicious breakfast even though very busy with a wedding party. Nothing to complain about
Decor and colour scheme were restful. Atmosphere was comfortable but relaxed. Good location for Leeds castle and various nature reserves. The meat in the main course of both myself and my companion was tough on the first night, is that a complaint? The meal on the next night was superb.
Great to find this hotel after having to stay in some other pretty awful places in the area
The location was convenient to our requirements No access to lift after 10pm
Easy to find, clean, friendly. Breakfast excellent.
Brasserie very nice and good food, pool area excellent First room had water runnimg noise all night so we changed rooms the following night, fan in loo was dirty and not working or very low flow & also when the second room was cleaned before we used it there was a vase on the floor behind the dressing table this was missed.
