10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was large with both a bath and a shower. For such a small guest house the breakfast was unusually varied: many kinds of bread, jams, cheeses and cold meats. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and so much more delicious than packet juice. All in all an excellent breakfast. Choosing a place to stay can be a bit of a lottery. In this case we felt it was a lottery that we had won and were delighted with our choice. We would stay there again.
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This place was immaculate and exceptionally quiet despite being a small house. It was so quite that most of the the time we only knew there were other guests when we went down for breakfast. Plenty of options were available for breakfast and our hostess made fresh squeezed orange juice too. Cakes, tea and fruit were left out each afternoon. There was an espresso machine to serve yourself with. The location was perfect for hiking the many trails in Serra de Estrella. We are English speakers with only a tiny bit of Portguese. Our hostess doesn't speak English, but she excels at using translate on her iPhone. She provided us with maps and information about the park system app, and she was just overall kind and generous. We live in Portugal and plan to return throughout the seasons to enjoy this beautiful place and we would absolutely stay at Casa d'Avenida again.
Cons: The bed was very firm which I've found to be typical in Portugal even in hotels such as the Pestana Group facilities. For me, the bed was uncomfortable after long days of walking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the very beginning the owner and her daughter were extremely welcoming, and eager to ensure our comfort. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The breakfast was delicious, with a large selection of foods, including freshly squeezed orange juice. The staff were happy to help us with anything we asked.
10.0 Excellent

Casa Das Obras - Manteigas - Building
3
9.6 Excellent (673 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located near Serra da Estrela, this 250-year old manor house has historic furnishings and artistic accessories. Each themed room is a reminder of older way of life. The sunny rooms of Casa Das Obras also have modern comforts such as a TV and central heating. Guests can relax and unwind at the Casa Das Obras’s outdoor swimming pool. A wholesome breakfast consisting of local cuisine is also offered here. Casa Das Obras is within driving distance of the natural springs of Caldas de Manteigas. The beautiful Poço do Inferno Waterfall is also a short drive away.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Casa das obras oozes history. That's why we felt "back in time". However, although it is an ancient house, the rooms were very comfortable and adapted to the needs of today's travelers. The breakfast was very extensive and tastefull and the accomodation provides everything you need, especially when travelling with two teens like we did : pool biliard , swimming pool, walking tours and last but not least... wifi (although this could be better in the rooms).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing historical house in the center of Manteigas, surrounded by the mountains. The pool was perfect to relax after our trek
Cons: Nothing at all
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The charm of a Portuguese house from the 18th century; amazing breakfast, distinctive attention from staff; the view; the excellent area close to the swimming pool. It is a gem in the Serra da Estrela. A special place, full of history.
Cons: Maybe the washroom toiletries n products (soap and shampoo and towels).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building was truly stunning. Full of history. It was obviously an old family home, that if it wasn't a bed and breakfast could have been opened to the public as somewhere of historical interest. Absolutely beautiful. We were welcomed and given an introduction to the facilities, and made to feel completely at home; really made to feel that if thee was anything we needed we just had to ask. Facilities for guests were above and beyond anything that you would normally expect. Tea and coffee, cakes and biscuits in a public area at all times. Reading room with books and games (chess, draughts, etc) available. A pool table. The room was large and very comfortable, with a well stocked mini-bar at reasonable prices (beer, red and white wine, port, and water) Garden with outdoor swimming pool. The breakfast was out of this world, with a variety of fruits, breads, cold meats and cheeses, etc. Several of the breads and cakes available were clearly homemade, and in our one-month tour of France, Spain and Portugal this was without doubt the best quality and most varied breakfast of any of the places we stayed. We are already planning our return visit next year, for a longer stay as we want to explore the area a lot more. Casa das Obras does not have a restaurant, bit there are several nearby. We chose Bar/restaurant Serradalto, (only five minutes walk away) which looks unexceptional from outside, but the food was excellent. I ordered trout in the house style, and got two whole trout. My wife ordered steak, and got two where one might have been expected. Including one starter, one desert, and a carafe of wine, the total bill was €32. Good value for money and good food.
Cons: The booking.com website refers to on-site parking. In fact it is only on-road parking. We were travelling by motorbike, and we were offered the option of parking the bike in the garden, behind a locked gate, but in the end didn't feel the need to move it off the road. Access is via a steep, narrow, cobbled street, but in the end t wasn't as difficult as it looked!
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Beautiful place and very welcoming people A1
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Simply stunning grand old family house, cared for and greatly loved by owner. Beautiful garden and pool with stunning views. Wished we could have lingered over the wonderful breakfast spread but oir schedule didn't allow.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All good reviews are true - everything was perfect. It's endeed very old family house. Very atmospheric place, feels like a real family nest. Our room was very big, bed was huge and looked awesome, bathroom was comfortable. Vintage furniture still looked very good and was very functional and comfortable. Everything was fulfilled with a lot of lovely and beautiful details. Breakfasts were one of the best! The house itself is more like museum. It has a lot of interesting things to look at. And not to mention the location - Manteigas and surroundings are so good I can't really describe in words. Beautiful mountains, excellent routes with a lot of wild cherries as a surprising bonus. It's special, we really like it a lot (perhaps it is our the most beloved impression from Portugal). For all of this the price was more than fair.
Cons: It was a little bit cold inside the room because of the cool weather. But big warm blankets saved the situation. It was a pitty that weather was not warm enough to enjoy a lovely pool. But all of this were little nothings compared to all the available benefits.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The lady who welcomed us and was the owner /manager was such a nice person so friendly and helpful, suggesting a daily itinerary and restaurants.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A large, comfortable room in an amazing old building. Very friendly host, great breakfast and with walking distance of several restaurants (Santa Luzia very good). An ideal base to explore the impressive Serra de Estrela. Recommended.

Pros: They catered to our every need including special gluten free meals all of which were exceptional. The staff are all also exceptional, helpful and caring. One of our top 3 places ever!
Cons: We are big cyclists so my only comment would be a bit better bikes (ie. in better shape mechanically).
7.0 Good
Pros: Location and rooms are excellent.
Cons: Staff too formal which makes for an odd atmosphere. Food is average but the price is high. Pool area is a bit sad and could do with sprucing up
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views
Cons: No nice seating in the dining area for groups larger than 2. If your a group of 3 or more you have to dine at one large table next to the buffet station. Nice for one meal but becomes restrictive with such nice other areas open to couples only.

The restaurant has a very good cooks that prepare a amazing local dishes. The hotel has a nice indoor (and outdoor) pool but also the hotel is very close to a lake for swimming, in a landscape that is magnificent. And also there are many tracks for hiking in the vicinity! One of the best place I have ever been in Portugal.
Cons: Nothing to say, it was excellent
9.5 Excellent

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Simple late checkin. Daniela was a great hostess! Good breakfast. Parking at the front door. Room and bathroom clean.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is a bit out of the way, so you'll need a car to go anywhere, but this is also part of the attraction of the property because you get great views over the village and the valley, and it's in a very quiet area. The breakfast is good, and tea and coffee is available all day in a communal sitting area. Daniela and her husband are very welcoming and were happy to give advice on where to eat and where to go hiking.
Cons: The room was fairly small, so if you have 2 adults with big suitcases it may be a bit cramped, but other than that evrything was fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel, with a panoramic view across the valley and the village. The rooms are clean and tidy. The breakfast was great! Pros: Daniela and Paulo are super friendly and helpful! The house is quite cosy and we felt awesome staying there. It was the perfect winter couple escape place.

Pros: We loved everything. Beautiful hikes, pleasant city, very friendly hosts.
7.5 Good
Pros: The best is the serra de Estrella itself. It's just incredible! Come to Manteigas to see it! The breakfast is good for Portugal (but nothing hot). The host is very polite and happy person :) and his wife is responsible for the breakfast. Very clean - it's important.
Cons: In our journey it was the most expensive place, but you have to pay for the place. The check-in after 4PM - really? :)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location! Rooms were great, nice restaurants nearby. Staff were so lovely and we were very well taken care of.
Cons: Wish there were screens in the windows, lots of flys in the room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great value for money. Cleaniness of the place. Sympathy of the people who are running the place, they try their utmost to help in any situation that comes which is not as good as it could be. Overall a pleasant stay, which needs to be carefully thought of.
Cons: Breakfast could be improved, but it's ok. Sound Isolation could improve (some rooms are next to the entrance of the building. Definitely should improve the door sounds by making them more silent, very heavy old style doors, the locks and open closing echo through the building. Try not to stay in lower floor rooms.
10.0 Excellent

9.5 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is amazing like explained in other reviews but we really want to focus on how amazingly friendly the staff is. They are kind, helping. Without them the experience would be only good and they make it very good. Thanks for everything we had very nice 2 days: location, design, the products used in the hotel, the wool, the fireplace, amazing breakfast and diner. Everything was nice.
Cons: The only thing I can say is that the shower is small.

The design and the atmosphere are wonderful and the service impeccable. Would definitely recommend it. Pros: Amazing staff and service at the hotel was amazing. The staff gave us amazing 5 star service, especially at dinner and breakfast, check-out and luggage handler.
Cons: It is not a 4 star hotel. At most, 3 stars. The rooms were small and uncomfortable. The bathroom was ridiculously small. The shower was so small, I could not bend up or down.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Everyone at the hotel was really nice and the whole environment was very relaxing. It was the perfect place to get away for a long weekend and to enjoy the fresh air in the hills. It was our birthday weekend and the hotel surprised us with a yummy chocolate lava cake desert and sparkling wine. Overall everyone was very attentive and accomadating. We certianly hope to come back again.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff was excellent, they were so friendly and kind especially to our daughter. We stayed in 4 hotels during our trip to Portugal and this one was the best at all, we would change our plans to stay here in the near future. We loved our suite and the amenities were great. Not felt as if we were in a hotel, the 2 living rooms with fireplace made us feel like we were in our own home. The indoor pool and spa was excellent but the best part was the dinner, their set menu for 2 nights was divine paired with really good wines.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Your attention makes the difference! From the email guiding us to the hotel, small treats to please us, kindness of the entire staff made us feel our priority was to relax. And indeed, the surroundings were breathtaking! The hotel is decorated with very good taste, a tribute to local and Portuguese manufacture that we particularly cherish. Congratulations and we count the days until we return!

Pros: Everything else was good , lovely breakfast, nice people, tranquil surroundings.
Cons: Hard to find
7.7 Good
Pros: The friendly owners, the breakfast (home made, with different and delicious things everyday, as fresh natural juices, cake and regional items), the overall house, very cozy, the pool (very clean and a very nice spot to relax). The wi-fi internet was recently added and was free. It's very near to Belmonte, a traditional little village and with excellent access to main roads and to Serra da Estrela itself. We enjoyed very much our 3 nights stay.
Cons: Just the lack of air conditioning in some rooms.

Pros: Location was perfect for walking in the hills around manteigas.

Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms nicely decorated in simple modern style. Pool area nice bonus. Fantastic view from room and restaurant.
Cons: Liked everything
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was good The breakfast was also very good
Cons: All hotels that we stayed in throughout Portugal and Spain, provided maps of the local area to all customers. The hotel is on the side of the mountain, but was difficult to get to - streets going up and streets going down were very strenuous. We never did find the centre of town When we went looking for the "centre of town", we were not informed that we had to use our car. Walking was quite strenuous. We also failed to find a restaurant in the mythical "centre of town".
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location in beautiful surroundings.
Cons: Hotel restaurant was closed on Sundays - ho hum! Not really a complaint, but the food was rated as good and we missed out. Excellent restaurant right next door though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rafael and his brother are fabulous hosts who make your stay very comfortable. They entertain you with humor while providing a copious dinner. We recommend fully to have dinner in the hotel as well. Although the hotel is way over 20 years old, it is maintained at top level, the facilities are all in good order and the rooms and bathrooms are very hygienic. The environment is worth discovering with it’s beautiful scenery and hiking possibilities in the mountains! Very priceworthy. We’ll be back!
Cons: The only thing I didn’t like is that we hadn’t have more time to stay!
9.5 Excellent
Cons: Friendly staff. Great food. Nice pool

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old house, with an inviting fireplace in the common living room; our group ended the day drinking wine by the fire - perfect! Very cosy and warm rooms and good selection in the breakfast (including the marvelous Serra da Estrela cheese - called here "requeijão").
Cons: I would recommend giving a call to the property to inform your arrival time, because there is no front desk (we had to wait a bit till the manager arrived). Extra pillows could be provided (there were only 2 in our room). You have to drive to Manteigas center (walking there is a bit far).
4.5 Okay
Pros: Clean, comfortable beds, good breakfast.
Cons: No hot water in the evening (the staff apologised for it and it worked in the morning); The rooms in the guest house don't have a nice window view.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super service and attention to details. And the homemade wine
Cons: Absolutely fantastic place
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in an old stone building - it is from another time. The staf were excellent and helpful. Breakfast very good and the view beautiful!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This is a pretty house converted into a hotel in the beautiful little mountain town of Manteigas. It's a perfect place to explore the Parque Natural Serra da Estrela from, with stunning mountain views in a very quiet location surrounded by nature. The near-by wool factory is a pretty cool to walk-through (no charge).
Cons: The room is a bit compact, although cozy. Guests who are used to larger beds might find the full matress a bit small. The A/C in the room was a little tempermental, my wife and I woke in the middle of the night drenched in sweat because it wasn't working for a bit. The property is owned by the adjacent hotel, and it wasn't clear that we were to check in there, but everything was fine once we figured it out.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location was great. Desk clerk was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was good. I made last minute reservations and they accommodated our nine kilo non-shedding dog. We stayed in the original B&B but will definitely book in the new building next time.
Cons: Large dog with a barking problem was chained outside. He was put in by 2200 each night so doesn’t disrupt sleep just not pleasant to walk by.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location and the staff perfect
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We were practically alone in the hotel (weather? season?) and the staff still made an effort to make us feel welcome
Cons: The emergency light in the room was *very* bright: The night we stayed was a tad windy and rainy and the power repeatedly failed. Every time the power went out , the emergency light shone strong enough to literally wake us up
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Very clean, comfortable and spacious room. Friendly staff.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location especially for the spa. Room was very comfortable. Great shower. Staff helpful.
Cons: The decor in the common areas, particularly the restaurant is very clinical and the lighting is terrible, like a hospital canteen. The food was very disappointing for the evening meal and breakfast was uninspiring. No fresh coffee even! Only from a Nescafe machine!.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Located in a peaceful landscape it's a nice place to stay and rest. The staff is nice and the thermals and spa make it ideal for relax

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great Location
Cons: Noise in the room from the ventilation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, cleanliness, nice staff.
Cons: Breakfast was a bit plastic. So many good local products ignored. I understand the room rate was reasonable but a little more effort could have been made with breakfast ingredients beyond plastic ham and cheese and the usual cereal. Where was the local bread, cheese, sausages etc.?

Cons: As we were travelling for 2 weeks I had a citronella candle in the car and we used it in the evening as we sat by the pool so bring one along!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location in the mountains! Beautiful views. Clean swimming pool. Fun donkeys on property. Grounds were lovely, fruit trees, flowers. Old farm but rooms and interior were very nice. Our hostess spoke only Portuguese, but we managed to understand one another! Clean room and bathroom. Nice breakfast served. Glad we found this place instead of just driving through the national park.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: We chose this property for easy access to walking routes. The room was simply decorated and very spacious. Host provided an excellent breakfast.
Cons: The parking at the rear of accommodation had a steep slope so warning to those with low vehicles, it would be easy to catch/damage the underneath of your car coming down on to the road.

Pros: Everything - comfortable beds, GREAT shower, clean rooms, authentic Portuguese nobility house. Loved every moment. Might be challenging if you don't speak Portuguese, but friendliness of staff and use of body language helps the communication. Fantastic stay!!!
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A very special place: Beautiful old house with lots of antique furniture. Very friendly host who made us feel very welcome (communication works fine though she doesn't speak any English). Especially the breakfast room is a delight, where we were served a really good breakfast with lots of different homemade jams. You feel like the comendador himself :-) And the centre of Manteigas is just a short walk away …
Cons: Rooms on the ground floor on the back of the house are a bit dark.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very warm and welcoming. Extremely helpful with great recommendations and advice on things to see and do.
Cons: Not a criticism but I think it would be helpful to have clearer instructions on how to get to the property and where to park. It wasn't clear on the sat nav using the address and it's difficult to see the sign by road If driving past.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Patricia, the hostess, was extremely helpful and friendly. She made us a lovely breakfast in the morning with home-made jam and cake, bread, cheese etc. We stayed in the Blue Room, and the whole house is beautiful and historic. If you are after somewhere with very modern facilities, it is possibly not for you, but we enjoyed it, and the surrounding mountains are very good for hiking. It's a slight walk into town where there are a handful of restaurants.
Cons: Minor point - sometimes not enough hot water for shower
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent, had more food that you could eat.
Cons: decoration
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place, decent breakfast, though vegetables were missing, very friendly and helpful stuff

Cons: Shared bathroom is not very convenient but that the consequence of preserving the unique character of the house
7.0 Good
Pros: Beautiful old house, well preserved inside and outside, nice garden, breakfast ok
Cons: swiming pool present but unusable, town center not quite in walking distance. some trouble finding it, "next to petrol station" would have been a good hint.
