Location and the deck was very nice.
The room was dirty, you could tell that they did not thoroughly clean. We let the front desk know we had a dog and rented bikes for the day. Here is where service went down. We did leave the dog for 10 hrs (typical day of work for us) and he is not kenneled so he just sleeps on his pillow. The bike rental was given to us with no questions asked. We got back at 11pm that night and he went nuts and was drunk. He said he was going to call the cops and that the bikes needed returned by 7pm. He was unprofessional and actually put his hand on me and got in my face. Luckily the daughter spoke better english and apologized for his behavior. I will never go back. This is my first booking.com review but this behavior should not go un-noticed.
Perfect location, friendly staff
We stayed one night in order to attend a wine festival in neighboring Cochem. This hotel was close enough to walk, for us. About 30 minute walk. Free parking, pet friendly, comfortable.
My German isn't so good and they don't speak English. When we arrived I had to call a number that was left on the door to check in. It was just a little confusing at first, but I made it through and we checked in eventually.
The owner was exceptionally kind to accomodate an unexpected delay in our road journey and let us check in after midnight
One of the beds in the family room was in fact a sofa with a rather poor mattress, the lights were not working, and that room proved to be extremely hot. We were negatively surprised to learn that the hotel does not accept electronic payments. Although this seems to be a widespread practice in this corner of Germany, it doesn't take away the fact that it is extremely inconvenient to tourists that dislike travelling with cash (ATM machines are several km away from the hotel).
Located in Valwig, Zum Valwiger-Herrenberg is within a 5-minute drive of Cochem Historic Mustard Mill and Hieronimi Winery. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
