The surroundings, the room was very spacious and its overall location. The decor was quite outdated in both dining rooms. Dolls everywhere! The breakfast was very poor and imposed upon us i.e. one croissant one piece of brioche and a piece of bread. We were not informed by the staff there was a buffet although not very appetising and limited in variety. The staff were very sombre and cold. Given the now known history of the Chateau its decor and furnishings did not do it any justice whatsoever. (This Chateau was occupied by Gl Rommel between 1942 and 1944 along with his Panzer division) We also, whilst still in bed, did not appreciate our bedroom door being opened at 9am when we weren't required to leave until 12:00 hrs.
nice building we were very disapointed with the hotel, for the price we expected more. very small bathroom with saniflo loo, hand held shower, small bed, very expensive fool poor quality, after first night we eat out.
Superb location, wonderful building and obviously a work in progress from the new work done. Main rooms and bedroom elegant and as one would expect from a Chateau. It just missed out on details that could make it one to return to...the waitress had a nylon "hospital" type white coat which was out of keeping with the surroundings. Dolls! in one restaurant room did not fit with the rest of contents and very cluttered reception area right next to the grand staircase......the place has the space and grace to avoid this juxtaposition of contrasts.
Beautiful building, very attractive breakfast room and hallways. Good parking, extensive grounds to wander in. Quiet.
Poor quality towels in the room. SHAMPOO etc. insufficient quantity to wash hair even once.
The Chateau is stunning and has been sympathetically restored to make a unique Hotel.Madame and her staff were attentive in the hotel and restaurant - and ever ready to help. We were welcomed with coffee in the salon after a long journey - a nice touch. We did not have children with us but the staff in the restaurant made all the children we saw - some very small - very welcome. From our experience when our children were small this was not always the case in hotels we visited. Nothing at all
good comfort in outbuildings good sized room superb waiting staff at restaurant would have like option of staying in chateau itself
very pleasant surroundings and so peaceful
Externally beautiful building and gardens. Staff were fine somewhat over efficient in that a four course meal was completed in 45 minutes! Hotel unaware of our booking on arrival but did have room. Pigeon walking around in the reception! Corridor smelt of body odour. Room very dated and very pink. Bathroom outdated and mouldy. Did not wish to spend anymore time than had to in the room. Dinner 33euros per person served in outdated dining room surrounded by plastic flowers and ceramic dolls. Poor quality food main course of tarragon chicken was dreadful and presented with limp oven chips and a single piece of lettuce with visible mud on it.
Lovely location & meal choice No English spoken at all
The whole place was a surprise from arrival till departure. A beautifull place in a very nice and private setting. Couple who run it are most pleasent.
Lovely room and grounds, friendly owner Not within walking distance of restaurant
Everything about this hotel was just perfect ... down an alley of trees, lost in the forest and fields outside the town of Valognes, in the Contentin peninsula, you come up to a beautiful mansion of the 16th century. The garden is well tended, plants have small signs naming them, a small pond lies in one corner, the owner welcomes you with a large smile and warm words. The rooms have each a theme.
The gardens and farming ambience were pleasant. The countryside was pretty and the Manoir tranquil. It was rather too isolated to be easy to find. The room was large and comfortable but in such an isolated location it would have been an improvement to have had some tea or coffee available. Luckily we had brought food with us as we realized access to restaurants was not easily found.
Excellent room, very peaceful and quiet location.
Perfect location for visiting D-Day memorials. Lovely room excellent pressure on shower, well decorated and cared for. Once we discovered how close to the main roads it really was, it was all the better. It is quiet and about quarter mile from main road. This time of year, not a lot of restaurants open in Valognes but easy travel to Cherbourg and all along coastal towns. Not particular to Manoir but all over Europe, pillows are not the kind we use in US. A poor review just prior to our trip was unnecessary. All the traveler needed to do was ask Eric for help. He and his wife put a lot of time and care into the property. We definitely would go again and recommend.
The lack of information regarding the location of the hotel on Booking.COM
The beautiful Manor House itself, lovely room, the tranquil setting, ease of access, friendliness of the host. Bed was not as comfortable as it should have been.
This was an unxpectedly absolutely charming place to stay, a small manor house that feels buried in the countryside but is highly accessible for the main road between Cherbourg and Caen, Bayeux and the D-Day beaches. The owner speaks perfect English and could not have been more helpful, without being at all intrusive. It is purely bed and breakfast, not a full service hotel,(eg no TV in the room) but the house is in its own grounds, up a poplar lined drive, and you are free to wander the immaculate grounds, including the apple orchard. I stayed for one night as a stop over, but would have no hesitation in returning for a longer period. My double room was large and immaculate, the stone walls and stairs mean there is very little noise from the other rooms, despite the house being full when I stayed. The breakfast was laid out in the dining room and was perfectly adequate, with cereals and rolls etc. No
Quiet, Clean, Historic, Well-managed, Beautiful Gardens, country-side, and apple orchard. Spacious & 500-year old building like new. We couldn't stay longer due to the usual life intrusive events.
