D Day Aviators - Arromanches-les-bains - Building
1
9.5 Excellent (230 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at D Day Aviators, you'll be centrally located in Arromanches-les-Bains, within a 15-minute drive of Cathedrale Notre-Dame Bayeux and Museum of the Battle of Normandy.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The welcome, the room, the attention to detail i. e. Historical information about WW2 Aviators.
Cons: Not vegan friendly although we had said we were vegan when we booked and were told that was no problem.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Florence the owner was fabulous. Helpful hints and she made you feel like you were home. Very comfortable place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great for the Normandy area. The manager was very friendly and helped with suggestions. She even whipped up a great breakfast with no advance notice (don't recommend you do that), because our breakfast plans fell apart.
Cons: Thought I had reserved the bottom floor, not the first floor, due to physical disabilities. This was uncomfortable and put a damper on the stay. There was a bottom floor room available so not sure what happened.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great, the room was amazing, the amenities were lovely, the shower was incredible. Very spacious and neat, clean and comfortable. The owner was so welcoming, she made us feel right at home, she even cooked us breakfast with homemade croissants and other lovely pastries and breakfast items. I highly recommend this place, you will be treated exceptionally and you’ll wish you’d spent more time there.
Cons: Nothing, it was fantastic and wish I booked longer. Hats off to the owner, she is incredible!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Delicious breakfast, friendly host, comfortable bed, excellent bathroom, central to the town, beautiful interior!
Cons: Everything was great!
7.5 Good
Cons: Check with owner about parking before arrival.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We did not require breakfast on this occasion as we had to make an early start for our return trip home - the cake given to us by Florence for our journey was a lovely touch. The enthusiasm shown by Florence to all things to do with aviation was infectious. Attention to detail with all the memorabilia, backed up with stories and the relevant history was first class. A delight for any aviation enthusiast!
Cons: We should have stayed longer! Otherwise perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was superb, the rooms especially the bathroom outstanding .
Cons: Not much really, because of the location one had to park the distance away but accepted that because of the town it’s in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ambience, authenticity, wonderful host, delicious breakfast, comfortable bed/ room
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hostess was very welcoming. Stayed late on a Saturday to get me checked in to my room. Only a one night stay, would have liked to stay longer and explore the town.
Cons: Hard to find, off a pedestrian street and cell phone lost signal in the area.

Pros: The hotel was conveniently located with parking nearby. The rooms were large. The hotel was put together by dividing up a larger house. Street noise was minimal as the hotel was did not face the street. The service was excellent. The breakfast was well done with lots of choices.
Cons: Nothing worth comment.

Pros: Nice petit debunker. Virginia (manager) very helpful.

Cons: Everything was more than fine!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully French. Gated small but very lovely. Spacious room. Green room had huge closet with steamer. Charming.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The lady was very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was very good. My husband wanted fried eggs and I said we would pay, but the young lady gave this to us for free. She even helped us with our suitcase up the stairs. The room was super spacious. We booked a family suite but of course we didn’t use the other big room with two single beds. Everything was clean and tidy. Perhaps the only drawback was that there wasn’t a lift. We stayed on the first floor and there was no problem at all. Notre sejour etait tres agreable!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic room: a great location - close to the centre, restaurants, shops. Spacious rooms and the bathroom, comfortable beds, quiet area. All facilities that were needed were there: fridge, tv, wi-fi, coffee, tea... Very friendly sraff, good breakfast with self-made, delicious yoghurt. This was a very comfortable stay.
Cons: The first night we did not have any Internet access, but the problem was solved later. The shower drain did not work very efficiently. For the rest - there was nothing wrong.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Attractive original features combined with tasteful refurbished fit out.
Cons: Unfortunately, the people next door had a garden party that night.

Pros: Pretty room, view of ocean, very clean.
Cons: Wi fi in lobby, not in room and no air conditioning.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A lovely peaceful spot, with cheerful, friendly and helpful staff. I especially liked the fact that although the receptionist spoke excellent English, because I spoke to her in my very average French we conversed in French.
Cons: Breakfast was perhaps a little too "do it yourself" although most of the ingredients were first rate, it was all designed with an eye to absolute minimum staffing. To be perfect I would not serve weakish coffee in thermos jugs, nor little pots of Danone yoghurt
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast. Stylish rooms and lovely white linens. Nice bar
Cons: Nothing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Room was very clean with everything you need. The breakfast was a typical continental breakfast with selection of meats, cheeses, yoghurts, cereals/mueslis, eggs, bread, pastries and jams. A very clean dining room with a pleasant outlook over the orchard. Staff were very welcoming. Excellent location - quiet street but just an easy short walk into Arromanches.
Cons: Coffee at breakfast was served in thermal jugs with jugs of hot water and milk too. I didn't ask but we weren't offered a choice of an espresso or other types of coffee.
7.1 Good
Pros: Wonderful breakfast, beautiful gardens and good location, walking distance to the beach. The staff were very helpful.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location, gardens, setting and general atmosphere. It's been beautifully converted. Plenty of car parking on site

Pros: Loved the rooms. The bar and the wonderful fireplace was so welcoming after touring around all day.
7.9 Good
Pros: The venue was beautifully done; an old farm estate turned into a fantastic hotel. The restaurant was brilliant with delicious food. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful couple of nights.
Cons: The location was in the middle of nowhere with very little else to do; you either ate at the venue or you didn't eat at all. If you want to get away from it all then this is the perfect place. But if you want to enjoy the surrounding area then you need to travel.

Pros: Breakfast was lovely. Owner coped well and left a message and note with our late arrival( 10.30) from ferry.
Cons: Parking limited and unlit if arrive in dark. Some basic french will help. Probably better to stay several nights as we found it a bit difficult to find in the dark for a one night stay.

Cons: The ONLY complaint was the inability to make tea or coffee after 10pm or before 7am .. had expected tea / coffee making facilities in the room .. hadn’t read the specifications in great detail but was my expectation so no real criticism.. made up for in any case by the hosts accomodating attitude

Pros: Friendly and welcoming host, typical french estate.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely charming host and setting. Old country manor with stone steps and the feel of a stately home. Pictures don't do it justice. Breakfast set out like a banquet with a log fire burning in the massive fireplace. Wifi reception perfect, Only booked to break our journey on to Brest but made a lovely start to our holiday. Angora goats in the adjoining field were really friendly and added to the feel of the place. We missed out on seeing the mohair products as only opens Saturdays and Wednesdays.
Cons: We knew not to expect tea and coffee making facility but would have been nice to have.
10.0 Excellent

Chez Elena&arnaud - Caen - Building
9
8.9 Excellent (243 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Chez Elena&Arnaud in Caen (Saint-Ouen), you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Festyland and Caen Memorial. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Elena is a very nice host, breakfast was awesome, and there's a fantastic cat named Casper. Cats at hotels always get an extra plus from me.
Cons: My booking.com info said check-in was from 4pm which was when I arrived, but it seems check-in was from 5pm so a little confusion there, but no big deal. I never read reviews before making a booking, and the hotel was more of an Airbnb experience than Bed & Breakfast, ie like staying in someone's home. I wouldn't have chosen this option if I'd have known in advance (just personal preference), but everything was great anyway.
6.0 Good
Pros: very friendly owner great cooking facilities
Cons: the pictures on the main site page are of a much bigger apartment .i got a very small room that is advertised as a "family room" u cant swing a cat in there. would not advise it for a couple. soft mattress no kettle smell coming from the drain never the less i stayed there for 4 nights and survived - u get what u pay for
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was really good - coffee was fabulous! Our bikes had a safe place for the night. The location was great as it is very close to bike paths, and an easy ride from the train station.
Cons: The toilet wasn't working well, and we could hear the other guest snoring.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Elena made a nice breakfast (fresh crossaints, pain du chocolat, yoghurt, fruit), welcomed us very nicely and the place was cosy - the double rooms are in the house where the hosts also live, we stayed in a small separate house which contains two family rooms (on the left in the dinner photo). There was everything - double bed + upper bed of the bunk, nice bathroom, table and kitchen with all supplies. We made dinner and enjoyed it in the garden. The value for money is superb.
Cons: The room is quite tight, but it wasn’t a problem for us.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Good breakfast
Cons: Need to wait to long at the gate Very small room
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful hostess.

Pros: Very nice and pleasant owners and Elena makes great brekfast! Nice and quiet area. Beautiful cat!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Clean, well-located property with welcoming hostess and host. All worked as hoped and breakfast was typically continental- surprising, eh?
Cons: The sofa was tricky. Sit on it and it could flip out from underneath you. Though perhaps that was part of the fun.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were really nice and Elena gave us some tips on what to see around Caen. Breakfast was good - this place is a real good value for money. The room was clean and quite comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in Caen just one night on our "Landing beaches" trip. The place at Elena was very nice in close proximity to the city centre.

Pros: Clean, fresh, close to motorway & restaurants
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: It was clean and functional. Convenient location for us. Near to a supermarket.
Cons: We drove all night, check in was from 4pm, we arrived at 4.30pm and had to wait 45 minutes for our room to be ready. Lady on reception offered no apology, just shrugged and told us to come back. We decided to stay on site and sit in the lounge as didn’t fancy getting back in the car...after 20 minutes we were offered a drink whilst we waited and she did then apologise for the delay. Also we paid cash on arrival. We were then given a receipt. The following day the same amount again was held on my debit card by Ace Hotels and not released back to me for several days. Decided not to stay for breakfast. No tea making facilities, but they did kindly fill our flask with boiling water for our onward journey!

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Manoir de Mathan in Crepon, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Cathedrale Notre-Dame Bayeux and Juno Beach. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.1 Good
Pros: Staff on breakfast were particularly friendly. Beds very comfortable. Room nice and warm despite -7 degrees outside.
Cons: Room 28 has no light near the single bed so the only way to read is with the phone’s torch! and no sight of the tv which is in a corner hidden by the fireplace from the single bed. The table lamp did not work and was not repaired/replaced following requests. No other restaurants nearer than 6kms.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent facilities, good restaurant and very good breakfast.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable/luxurious room - very good breakfast (as was dinner)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent friendly staff ! First class location!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location
Cons: Attic room
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing room - upgraded as they made us an offer of half price as it was free! Got us proper milk for our tea in the room - nothing was too much trouble.
Cons: Did not like plastic spoons on the tea tray!
5.0 Okay
Pros: The bed was wonderfully comfortable.
Cons: There is nobody at the Manoir to welcome visitors. We arrived 2.30 in the afternoon as my husband was feeling unwell and the rain was pouring down. Directions to the restaurant where reception is based were not clear and we could not find it. We retreated to café in neighbouring town. Tried later, arrived at Manoir and phoned reception - young man arrived by car after 4/5 minutes and showed me the room and departed. Very grand style but impersonal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Did not eat at this location but was very central to the D-Day beaches which is what we came for.
Cons: Noisy kids playing till 10 pm outside our window.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing, the property gorgeous, the fireplace with its roaring fire amazing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff was super. Breakfast could offer more variety but the staff was so nice that it compensates. As from the second morning they had the baby chair ready for our little one before we arrive for breakfast. These small details make a difference.
Cons: The only thing I can point out as negative is Internet. Data network is basically inexistent and even if WiFi is available it basically does not work. Maybe we had a room with poor coverage, but still. If you announce you have it you should be able to provide it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The grounds were beautiful and our room was royally decorated. It felt like we stepped back in time but with everyday conveniences.
7.6 Good
Pros: The accommodation was very attractive. The room was comfortable and attractive too. The staff were also friendly.
Cons: I should have liked a few more tea bags and milk in the room. Also, the directions to the hotel were not very clear. Was there a bar? If there was, this was not clear, and it would have been nice to relax with a glass of wine.
7.2 Good
Pros: The room was lovely, the dinner very good, the staff were very polite and helpful.
Cons: On arrival we went straight to Le Manoir De Mathan and we should have gone to the reception at the other hotel down the road. It would have been helpful if there had been some indication that this is what we had to do at the entrance of the Manoir. There was a bell but nobody responded to that and we were left to ask a hotel guest in our very limited french what we had to do.
4.8 Okay
Pros: General location (close to arromanche) general athmosphere
Cons: Check-in and reception are in an other hotel, so it's not very confortable. And our bedroom (71) was clean and quite big in size but overall a bit "poor" in terms of decor. Poorer than others we've seen while being there and much poorer than those shown on the photos of the website.
6.0 Good
Pros: The location was very good for where we were traveling. The hotel was very beautiful both inside and outside.
Cons: We were three adults, we booked a junior suite so we would have three regulation size beds. There was a king size bed and a rollaway cot not of full length. We were charged sixteen euro extra for the cot each night.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: beautiful buildings, very clean and atmospheric
Cons:
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a beautiful location with rooms beyond expectation
Cons:
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent accommodation with luxury touches. First class service and food. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Many guests have been coming back to this hotel for years and it's easy to see why.
Cons:

Pros: Receptionist really welcoming and helpful. Central location. Clean and tidy eastablishment
Cons: Parking on site would be nice but as It is in the city an understandable situation. Perhaps a concise indication of the parking available nearby would be good. E g. Free on street parking after 1900 until 09-30 the next day.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: No elevator
Cons: Location, staff support and pricing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful help from Laure in reception
7.1 Good
Pros: The owner was very accommodating about check in. She had sent an email with he code to enter the front door, unfortunately we were traveling and did not get it. When we arrived it was after checking time, but she had a phone number posted and when we called she provided the code and then came down to greet us, even though she had already laid out the keys for our room on the desk. A very pleasant experience for us.
Cons: It would have been nice to have a fan in the room as it was a hot summer night, there is no A/C and street noise prevents you from sleeping with the windows open. With the windows closed it is very quiet. Also it would be a nice touch to provide a few extra pillows in the rooms. It would definitely add to the comfort of the room.

5.7 Okay
Pros: Close to train station and restaurants/shopping mall within walking distance. If you are just looking for a place to sleep with no extra fancy amenities then this hotel is fine.
Cons: No parking at hotel so you need to use the public underground parking garage. Parking is validated from 6pm to 9am. No restaurant on site. Breakfast is limited. Cereal, fruit, pastries, cheese, etc but no full breakfast choice. First room I checked into had broken AC. Initial reply from front desk was to open the window. Asked to transfer to a new room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: New and clean Parking free during night (I think it was 1800 - 0900) Friendly reception Good standard breakfast with everything available even with lots of people
Cons: not able to open windows
7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel is in very close walking distance to the train/bus stations as well as to the bus stops for the airport bus. A lovely area on the Orne and close to many restaurants, cinema and a shopping mall. Most staff were helpful in giving directions to needed places as I didn't have a smartphone or if they weren't, they told me when somebody else would be available who could help me. I had an upgraded room which had a bath as well as a shower and a wonderful view towards the river and town with great sunsets. I loved the relaxation corner in reception where you could make yourself a free cup of tea or coffee and help yourself to biscuits or fresh fruit. Breakfast is varied and plentiful although the only cooked options are boiled eggs and toast. Good value for money.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel looks brand-new, stayed at #309 which is very spacy, was clean decent view
Cons: Payed 130 for the night which for an ibis styles is rather on the high side....
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A really comfortable bed in a quiet room. The hotel location is ideal for arrival by train or by bus from the airport at Caen Carpiquet. The new trams now pass in front of the hotel. The river location is relaxing The breakfast is varied and good value for money with lovely fresh bread, fresh fruit salad and good coffee as well as cheeses, ham, boiled eggs, pastries etc. I loved the fact that you can make a tea or coffee when you want at no extra cost in the reception area as well as helping oneself to a biscuit or a piece of fruit. Staff were usually helpful and knowledgeable. There are many good restaurants nearby for lunch or evening meals.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location, easy to find. Room was clean and very comfortable. It was spacious for a family of 4.
Cons: Nothing, with only staying for 1 night we didn't use all the facilities so couldn't really comment.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Despite the problem with the air conditioner, overall it is a good hotel in a good location. at breakfast there are no tomatoes and no cucumbers !
Cons: Although the hotel looked new and renovated, the air conditioner did not work at all - no heating and no cooling, it was impossible to operate at all and the staff could not repair it! ... We were offered another room, luckily there was a nice weather and we slept with an open window.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved this small hotel - great location (we walked from train station) such a friendly welcome, info provided and such a very comfortable bed and room.
Cons: Only tiny thing I could suggest is some milk for tea coffee as 2 tiny sachets provided not enough for one cup in Australia. It was not a problem though because upon request they delivered more.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Central location and helpfulness of staff
Cons: Car parking and access to hotel by car. Instructions to get to the hotel did not apply because of road works - these should have been updated to reflect a situation which had been ongoing for several weeks.
