9.6 Excellent (228 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely stay in the perfect location. Like others have said, a bit difficult finding the location's parking....around the corner. But phone Sharon and voilà, no problem. While I had the room with the balcony (and superb views), wish I had had time to use it! Nice touches included: fridge with cookies, water, and kettle/tea/coffee; large room, sitting room. Sharon even had some breakfast ready and made me a sandwich to take on my trip on the Little Yellow Train as I was getting up before breakfast started. She was very kind and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful and the complimentary wine and beer was such a nice bonus! I didn't have time to take advantage of the pool, but that would have been so nice...and Sharon provided a beach towel.
Cons: I was there for 4 nights and it was only on the last night, when I had the window open that I noticed the fumes from smokers. Really irritating. As others have noted about this room, there can be some street noise, but it really wasn't that bad. The weather was cool enough that I didn't have to always keep the windows open and Sharon did provide me with a fan which was a nice touch.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Sharon and Declan were the perfect hosts. In over 40 years of visiting and holidaying in France, I do not believe I have stayed in a nicer Chambres D'hotes. Anyone thinking of staying in the region of Prades, then this is an ideal place to stay. 10/10 for comfort, facilities, breakfast, I hope to get to visit again soon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect for our needs. Good breakfast. Owners very helpful and went further than many in providing extras
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Declan & Sharon were wonderful hosts always cheery and willing to help. Room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely with lots of choice and Sharon even makes a lovely wheaten bread. Felt very welcomed and was a very relaxed atmosphere. Have to mention Lily the family dog who loved a wee clap and was so friendly . Their was so much to do and see in the area and was a fabulous central point. Sharon recommended a fabulous restaurant called la Senyera in Ville franche - de - Conflent which was the best meal we had during our stay. Their was also the Added benefit of the swimming pool which was much needed as the tempetatures were above 30 degrees. I would recommend this acommodation as you will not be disappointed.
Cons: No air conditioning. Was extremely hot weather but their was a fan in the room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was very fresh plentiful and more if we wanted it, such as scrambled eggs that we accepted with relish.
Cons: there was nothing to be dissatisfied about.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, history, fantastic rooms, very friendly owner, everything really.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building has a lot of historical interest and character, and the proprietors have taken the trouble to furnish it in a style that is appropriate to its age. Our room was very large and comfortable, and so was the bathroom, with both a shower and a spa bath. Everything was sparking clean. The location was also perfect, just inside one of the town gates. But the best thing was the friendliness and helpfulness of the proprietors, who made themselves available for conversation at breakfast, and told the guests many interesting things. We will definitely go back, and I would recommend it to anyone, unreservedly.
Cons: Nothing - it was perfect.

Pros: the greeting by hosts Francois and Anni were very warm . great parking in their vast grounds too .quaint olde worlde room , but oh so comfy with an enormous bathroom, all neccities provided. The breakfast WAS A FEAST in itself- fab! thank so so much F and A- we will return.
Cons: nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: Quirky house filled with colour, great views, friendly and helpful hosts.
Cons: The details that I printed out from Booking.com when I booked this said “Air conditioning, fridge, toaster, coffee machine.....” so I assumed they would be in the room or at least accessible. This was not the case - there was an air conditioning unit in the corridor outside which wasn’t very useful in 40 degree heat. Too hot to sleep :(. We asked for an electric fan and the amused host gave us a very powerful one that sounded like a jet engine and blew away everything that wasn’t bolted down
Château de Riell - Prades - Building
5
9.4 Excellent (133 reviews)
Overview Reviews
In an unspoilt valley in French Catalonia, looking out at the snow-topped mount Canigou, you will find the Château de Riell, perched among parasol pines and oleander trees. Restored in an elegant french style, the lounges and 17 rooms and suites distil a warm, baroque and exotic atmosphere. A large fireplace for winter time and an beautiful terrace for sunny days, set the scene of a gorgeous restaurant and delicious local cuisine. On the foothills of the estate, a beautiful roman spa of 1 500 m² embraces a nurturing philosophy embodied by natural body and facial treatments, and genuine 18 000-year mineral water springs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everithing is perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful woodland location between the Grand Hotel and spa and the quaint little village of Molitg. Our garden room was spacious and quirky, with a small kitchen as well as an outside terrace. The restaurant is excellent though with a fairly limited menu so we chose to go somewhere different the second night. The staff are superb; friendly, helpful and professional. Our dog enjoyed the gardens and walks in the surrounding area.
Cons: Unfortunately there are a lot of cats in the grounds who leave their little offerings everywhere, particularly in the garage and in the terrace area of the garden rooms.
7.5 Good
Pros: Amazing chateau and the town is beautiful. Pool was lovely. Offers a very French experience. Good parking for bike.
Cons: We arrived too late to take full advantage of the hotel and so it made for an expensive night's accommodation. Breakfast at €22 is too expensive, as was a gin and tonic for €17!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything
Cons: the air condition in the room didn't work properly
5.0 Okay
Pros: Room was comfortable. Showers were hot. Setting of the hotel was beautiful- in the heart of the Pyrenees.
Cons: Didn't eat breakfast at the hotel- outrageously priced. Staff was snotty. At the baths, we were treated like cattle. Not very nice spa/thermal bath staff. I am fluent in French and none of the staff were willing to explain what the thermal treatments involved. Hotel staff was lukewarm. Valet was asked to bring our bags up- forgot a whole suitcase. We almost missed out connecting train. disappointing stay and baths. Everything was overly expensive.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location. We paid extra for a view and it was fabulous. The room was big with wonderful period furnishings a very nice pool. We took the train Jaune will there and that was fun
Cons: Dinner was good but not worth the price. Servers were efficient but distant. Have an equally nice dinner at half the cost as the grand hotel. there is one nice restaurant in the town also

Villa Lafabregue - Prades - Building
6
9.3 Excellent (241 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming relaxed guest house where the owner Kate made us feel totally at home. Our room had a "wow" terrace - huge and on two sides with loungers, table and chairs so we could sit and watch the mountains or the pool (with more mountains beyond). Breakfasts are super and if we didn't fancy any of the many restaurants a short walk away, we could also bring food back and have a little evening feast sitting outside our room in the shade. Kate even provides plates etc for everyone to help themselves. The gardens are beautiful and tranquil, the pool refreshing and the house (a replica of an Italian villa) is full of character. Prades itself is peaceful out of season but comes alive on market day. It is perfectly placed to explore the region and just a few minutes drive from the start of the Little Yellow Train. We loved it.
Cons: It was all perfect. The owners work hard to make your stay enjoyable.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The villa and the garden is beutiful. The hosts were really nice and also a veery good breakfast included!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is beautifully decorated and the view from the terrace is amazing. Very good breakfast and friendly owners.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is one of the most comfortable places you will ever stay. The common spaces are stunning and available from morning to night. My wife and I had some tasks to finish for work for part of our trip and we could use the large hall with a window on the beautiful garden to complete our work. You can bring your own grocery items and beverages or buy the very reasonably priced things that the hosts offer. Breakfast is delicious and languorous, which is perfect for a chill holiday. When you sit at the breakfast table (in late May as we did) you have a fabulous view of Mt Canigou with a fresh covering of snow. Don’t miss the dinosaur tribute garden.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: If you want to feel special and relax in paradise garden - Villa Lafabregue is great point to start exploring Catalan France by car or by train. The small number of rooms at the property and the personal touch of the hosts is just adding to the experience.

Cons: Nothing. Even predicted bad weather turned to warm sunshine - in December. Magic place where negatives can't hold sway.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Owners (Rosie and Andy) exceptionally nice people who gave a warm welcome. Their place is set on the edge of Vernet les Bains, a beautiful mountain town with lots of activities nearby. They had loads of information about the area, recommendations of things to do and where to eat. We stayed in the Gîte for two nights, which has a modern kitchen, ample upstairs sitting area and two bedrooms. We made most of our meals in, but Rosie had great recommendations for some local restaurants.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location, the atmosphere and the restaurant was great.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location, secluded amongst the foothills of the Pyrenees in a quaint and well presented village. After a long days travel it was a relief to see this place. Private gated parking and a great welcome by the hostess/manager who was very engaging and remembered our sans gluten request. Room was clean with a good view over the church and working air con. Swimming pool was just perfect, clean clear water with tress for shade, a real oasis. Evening meal was very well presented and we were the only guests so chef was booked just for us. Great food. Overall a great place to stay. I would defiantly return.
Cons: I thought the meal was pricey at 126 Euro with wine/aperitifs etc but no grumbles with paying
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We chose Le Loges because of the restaurant, which ended up being one of the great treats of our entire trip. The hotel facilities are quite clean and spacious, though entirely modest. The location is rather remote, which makes for a wonderful sense of seclusion (and a symphony of birds in the morning). But the reason to go here is the dining -- elegant and inspired dishes, from the freshest local ingredients, prepared with a deft hand. Our hostess, Genevive, made extraordinary efforts to make our stay (and dining) wonderful, and she could not possibly have been more hospitable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely fresh warm bread, croissants & all products, cheese, meats, jam etc locally sourced & some available to buy. Very friendly & small with a charming atmosphere. Small gourmet restaurant in the hotel. Superb!

Pros: Beau Vallon is in a most beautiful setting, high in the mountains with a river tumbling by, whose water has helped create a lush garden with the softest brightest green grass your feet will ever tread. The grass alone is worth staying for. Our room was very comfy, nice hot shower, everything carefully kept and immaculate. Breakfast was self-service with lots of delicious homemade choices. Wonderful relaxing stay.
Cons: Winding roads to reach the village, but well worth it.

Cons: The bed and breakfast rooms were so so small and single beds rather uncomfortable! Property, pool, location and owners were great. Would definitely book again but in one of the gites if available.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Really nice house with top class amenities for that might be expected for rural house. We were very pleased and happy with overall hosting and service. Highly recommended.

Pros: Great pool, superb host, clean, terrific location!
Cons: No luggage stands in rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect if you're looking for quietness, countryside with views and still having visits & hikes around! There are a lot of common spaces if you want to play games, watch a movie, dine, etc so I suppose this is ideal for families. The bedding was really good! Ourselves, we loved that they were no other clients, when we came, the garden, the views and the location.

5.8 Okay
Pros: Food was good
Cons: Pool maintenance did not allow access till 11:00, we had to check out at 12:00. Could have been done day before when it rained! Gym facilities poor. Have to request drinks from reception
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great value for money, good restaurant.
Cons: Thw breakfast buffet was a little disappointing for 14 euros per person The sfaff at the spa counter was extremely rude (OK, in France, but still)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful settling in a park
7.5 Good
Pros: Large room, good bed. Rooms at the frontside have a nice view, backside rooms are quiet but have less view. the hotel is old and somewhat run-down but this gives a special flavor. Most guests are older, come here for the health treatments and the springs. Nice garden for walks along the stream and there is a little path for climbing up one of the lower mountains. Great views from the winding road, road is very quiet.
Cons: Location is far from the village center, no restaurants nearby, you need a car.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful location, good meal in Cafe Casals, outdoor pool and sense of peace. Wonderful view from our room of the pool and the rocky outcrop opposite. Lots of benches for resting and admiring the landscape.
Cons: The only negative was the organisation of breakfast. It needs more staff to replenish food and crockery. Signage required and a smooth flow system.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing Views. Very relaxed hotel. Great walks from the hotel. Perfect swiming pool. The local restuarants in the surrounding area where very good. Everyone´s friendly!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful hotel off the beaten track
Cons: We loved everything!
6.3 Good
Cons: They overcharged me for some coffees I had, then tried to charge me again for the room I had already paid for and were very rude when I politely pointed this out. Some of the probably lower paid staff are really lovely, the ones in more senior positions seemed arrogant and rude. Getting into the spa is a bit tricky and it wasnt obvious I had to book well in advance for treatments.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved my stay at the Grand Hotel. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and the rooms nice and comfortable. i would definitely recommend it for those visiting the Pyrenees.
Cons: It was a bit unclear to us whether breakfast was included so we ended up paying extra (check before you go whether you have already paid or not). The other downside is because the hotel is so quiet there is often not many staff around and if you want a drink from the bar it is unmanned meaning you have to ask reception.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The beautiful location.
Cons: The hotel is very dated and in serious need of an upgrade--dark, gloomy corridors badly needing re-painting. Room was basic in amenity and appearance. Most people were on some sort of a spa/wellness package that included at least dinner, so those guests like us, who wished to dine a la carte were left with a very small choice that did not change during our stay. Breakfast was OK but very basic. The restaurant staff were good, but the reception staff were indifferent and reluctant to help with luggage even though it was raining. Parking is some distance from reception. We were greeted on arrival by a slovenly-looking young woman wearing a well-worn, crumpled uniform that looked as though it was in need of a wash and iron--not a good representative of what is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. Management needs to seriously consider the quality of their staff training. With the exception of the restaurant staff at dinner, there was not a cheerful face among the lot of them. If it were not for its lovely location, there would be no reason to ever stay here.
6.7 Good
Pros: Calm, beautiful,friendly
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The setting of the hotel is beauteful. The surroundings are very impressive
Cons: The room was very small. The hotel is very old. There is no buffet breakfast and everythung seems like an old people house.
7.3 Good
Pros: I liked its location in a beautiful French village, its surroundings (the river beside, green mountains, nature everywhere...)

However the hotel Manager was able to make arrangements for us to have a room and was very helpful with secure parking for our motorbikes and ordering a taxi.
Cons: The Plat de Jour menu was over priced for the food that was then provided.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: very plesant place to spend a vacation, the view is spectacualr and it's well worth the stay
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location and nature around is simply magnificent! The town is nice, but this hotel ("castle") is worth visiting alone. Take your spouse, wife, kids, partner and go there, you won't regret :)
Cons: Nothing. It was great. Maybe just a camera watching our your breakfast is spoiling the feeling of privacy a bit. But that's it, everything else is great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful location and views, and a building full of interest and character. Friendly and helpful owners.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Really beautiful building with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. We were they during winter and the room was warm and cosy. Pros: A comfortable and spacious stay in the beautiful house with extensive grounds and easy parking. The host was a delightful gentleman who kindly advised about my hiking in the nearby mountains.
7.5 Good
Pros: Everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The historic building and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. The view to the mountains across the gardens from the breakfast table and the back patio was glorious. I live in an old house with high ceilings but have never been (not on a tour) in a room with such high ceilings and beautiful glass paned doors as the breakfast room. Two nights of our stay we brought things to eat and sat on the patio and enjoyed the evening view with a small bottle of wine procured from the honor system mini-bar (very handy). The location close to Prades' center was perfect, and so surprising to see grounds of that size right in town! A trampoline, soccer goals, outdoor ping pong table, and pool provide ample activities for children, and the owners were very solicitous and pleasant. They worked with us to enable a VERY late check in (thankfully)! We would definitely recommend Castell Rose!
Cons: Our room was on the third floor so a little bit warm without AC. But the owner provided a great fan for the room which was quiet and effective. We kept the windows shut until we turned the lights out to avoid attracting insects to the light - worked well! If we return we would try to get a room with a view onto the mountains. We didn't use the pool so cannot evaluate it.

Pros: Rural French experience
Cons: It was not in a village but out on its own. Very beautiful though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Picturesque location, walk to the village and visit of the area worthwhile.a working farm with owners willing to discuss their lifestyle.good local home made food
Cons: All good and fair, access road to the village can be a bit challenging, with unexpected amount of traffic. Drive carefully
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a farm where you get the chance to taste some brilliant food; the rooms are very clean and the accomodation is easy to find
6.3 Good
Pros: Nice beer on arrival. Good shower. Clean room.
Cons: The flies at breakfast. Had a piece of bread and some orange juice and left.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very friendly staff at this accommodation next to a family-run farm. The adjacent restaurant with reasonably priced menu have some locally sourced meats and give an option for a night in. Rural surrounding offer great views of Pic du Canigou in the distance.
Cons: We got quite annoyed by the ever-present flies. During dinner in the restaurant the flies were on the food, us, glasses... Once we opened the room window there were tens of flies inside within a minute. In the morning we found out that our French speaking neighbors had been warned by the staff about flies and opening windows but we weren't. Maybe as the personnel were quite brief in English they forgot to warn us. I understand the farm animals stay nearby but just a simple net in the window frame would do the trick.

4.5 Okay
Pros: Location was good
Cons: The accommodation was old and badly needed updating and refreshed ie balcony to be painted and repaired curtain were a disgrace old and ill dressed and torn, bedcovers worn and whole area was very shabby and needed some TLC the only good thing was size of room and location also asking for cash payment and not being able to pay on credit card half way through the week on a weekend was disturbing to say least. It also had broken tiles on balcony and badly chipped paint and cement. The pool area was dirty and unkept I have taken pictures and my family couldnt believe it
5.0 Okay
Pros: Room is big
Cons: Does not appear in google maps, sign in the door showing different hotel name. Only cash payment (but they have a functioning device) Shower broken, window broken. Wifi not working. Brochure in the room about snack bar till 23. At 21, no food and only take away drinks.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This is a quirky place in a town that seems stuck in late 19th century. The old house was beautiful and welcoming, but be prepared for shabby chic and a too-quiet town in the offseason. (The bed was new and fantastic!) Great location, wonderful views, and easy to walk around the city, or for driving to sites in neighboring towns. Staff is kind and helpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: our room was very spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was bigger than some rooms we've stayed in. Our host was amazing, even picked us up from the train station when we were unable to get a taxi.
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: Good location, clean and comfortable. Perfect at the end of a long day cycling.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The host could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We were quite comfortable and it was a peaceful location. Excellent breakfast in the main house.
Cons: Although the rooms are comfortable, they are dated and could do with modernising.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location is good. Service was good. Breakfast was good.
Cons: Needs an upgrade. Coffee at breakfast wasn't great.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Basic but clean - lovely staff.
6.3 Good
Pros: Great location
Cons: Rm not clean - property run down
5.7 Okay
Pros: Big rooms, booked ahead get a good price for them. Would be good to have your own balcony, though, given distance from town.Very peaceful, hotel has games room and good lounge, too.
Cons: Wi-fi not available in rooms, have to go to public areas of hotel. Tiny TV in rooms.
6.7 Good
Pros: We had 2 adjoining rooms which was a perfect configuration for travel with our teenage daughter. Each had a separate area with mini-fridge, bathroom and (small) vestibule, so it almost felt like a small apartment. A small outdoor patio was delightful for an afternoon drink, though we could just as easily have sat at the very nice tables around the lovely pool. The host could not have been more helpful in terms of recommendations, from local restaurants and sights (several times researching places for me online). Cold drinks were available at all hours. The location was great - just below the uber-charming village of Vernet-les-Bains, a terrific base for exploring the Eastern Pyrenees.
Cons: The only problem was that the windows didn't open! Once you lower the heavy gate to keep the morning sun out, it became stuffy. This was only a problem on the second of our two nights (the first night was cool), and because we were leaving, we didn't ask for assistance - so perhaps there's a solution we never learned about. I should also mention that breakfast was 12 euros - a little steep, we thought, for a buffet that was certainly a nice spread.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Warm welcome upon arrival. Quiet spacious rooms with balcony/terrace and relaxing common garden area. Good pool, perfect for unwinding after a strenuous hike in the mountains.
Cons: Dated rooms (furniture, wall paper, etc). Value for money was low given remote location and decor. Breakfasts quite expensive for simple buffet, with no hot cooked options.
5.0 Okay
Pros: There was a lot of space in the room, also a balcony. The garden (pool)was nice although we didn't get the chance to use the facilities. The dining room and breakfast were nice.
Cons: The room was smelly. I think it came from the carpet and no air conditionning. We had to sleep with the windows closed. The decor was outdated. For the price we had better elsewhere, even in more popular areas.
7.7 Good
Pros: The setting itself is comfortable and welcoming. The staff is very warm and helpful. The rooms were commodious, comfortable and clean. It is nicely situated in relation to the rest of Vernet les Bains.
Cons: I think the reception sign needs to be more prominent.
6.8 Good

Cons: None, really
6.4 Good

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location perfect
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff was friendly. We could park easily next to the hotel as we arrived on Saturday evening and we departed on Sunday morning, so we could use the pay-and-display area. We were two people but we stayed in a 4 people room, so we had plenty of space. It was just 7 minutes away from Villefranche de Conflent by car (we were on a road trip), our destination during the stay.
Cons: There was no elevator, so it was a little bit hard to move around with the big luggage and to go up and down stairs.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: If you do not speak French DO NOT even contemplate staying here. When I booked on booking.com 9 months ago I requested a room with few stairs as my husband has had knee surgery. We had no communication from this hotel after booking to let us know about all the stairs we would have to climb. When we arrived we were handed keys to a room on the second floor which required 2 long flights of stairs. We objected to this and asked to speak to the manager as the girl on reception spoke NO English. When the male manager arrived 20mins later he grabbed our bags and threw them out of the door. I have no idea if he spoke English as the only word he spoke was out! Out! Consequently we didn’t stay in this terrible accommodation.
