We used the room as a base for travelling. It was clean, plenty of hot water and in pretty surroundings. Also it was a lot nearer to the old town and restaurants than anticipated. The breakfast was over priced - cheaper to go into town and eat. The room was basic but ok to use as a base. Over-priced for what it was.
The surroundings and buildings are beautiful. The staff was nice and the rooms were clean. We stayed in a family room in the converted carriage house or riding stables. The room was two levels which was unique and we felt like we were in a townhouse vs. a hotel room. We would stay here again. We coudln't get the free wifi to work, even after talking to the staff and getting the correct password. The room we stayed in had two levels, lots of stairs and the bathroom set up was awkward. Downstairs is a toilet and sink. Upstairs a shower and two sinks, but no toilet. It wasn't such a big problem that it would stop us from staying here again.
the setting we had 3 in a room which was a bit cramped and the extra bed was set up incorrectly and very uncomfortable, extra towels for the 3rd person were not supplied.
We loved the romance of the whole hotel, it didn't feel like a hotel. The staff were delightful, there was a little dog there (not sure if he belonged to the owners or another guest) but I miss our dog in Australia, so I appreciated being able to rub his belly. We were here for our honeymoon and had hired a car to see the Tapestry and the landing beaches. Also loads of restaurants and cafes in the town. The Swans and the Ducks swimming in the pond and under the little bridge were devine. The bath tub was deep - there is a shower head, but better off just soaking in the tub. Very clean, and nice facilities. We also booked during off season and got a great deal! After booking I found it was the 'top pick' in my Loney Planet guide to France We did comment to each other that we were pleased to have hired a car to make it easy to pop out for dinner, so would suggest others did the same or investigated alternative transport prior to booking
THe location is amazing! 2 mins from centre of Bayeux and perfect spot to explore the D Day landings. THe deal we got from booking.com was almost half then if you went direct with hotel. The seetiing is divine - very countryfied with a lake and swans and ducs and enclosed with tress and manicured lawns. We really enjoyed our stay here. The nest bit was sitting next to the large firplace on sofa drinking delicious red wine!
It was very enjoyable
Nice and clean room. The nature around the hotel is beautiful with swans in the lake in front of it. Big bathroom. The room was very cold during the night. Not walking distance to Bayeux
The building and grounds. Not too many guests. No resaurant, so we could not find a good excuse to enjoy the building for the evening. The interior of the room was not so good. More like a B&B in the Yorkshire with a tiny television in a huge room and a 30 year old fridge that rattled and splurted all night until I unplugged it.
A delightful and peaceful setting with friendly and helpful staff. You feel like you are deep in the countryside but are in fact in walking distance of all Bayeux's attractions and facilities. The spaceous and modern accommodation for a family of 4 was exactly what we wanted. Parking right outside our room. Breakfast seemed a little expensive. The WiFi was free but a very weak signal, at least in the Annex where we were.
very hard to find, they need to illuminate their signs at night since they are off on a small side road
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Room was very elegant, modern and tastefully furnished. Breakfast selection was great and perfect for our needs. Superb restaurant. Only one English TV channel, BBC World News. No sports channels or Sky News.
Very pleasant, relaxing 3 night stay. Very quiet, as our room was located at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. (There were not may other guests staying while we were there.) The location is good if you have a car, both for the city centre and other places of interest close to Caen. Very comfortable clean room, lovely bathroom, excellent shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was more than adequate and beautifully presented although limited in variety and probably not worth 15 euros - ours was included in the price. We had lunch in the restaurant on one day and it was a indeed a memorable experience! Definitely worth the money. After the second night, soap and toiletries which we had been using were replaced with new ones, which I thought was very wasteful!
Externally the hotel is like a factory unit but inside it's an oasis of charm and refinement. The hotel has a famous restaurant which, alas, is closed on Sunday nights.
The courteus and cooperative attitude staff, quality of the restaurant, good service, parking Slow, almost unusable WiFi internet in the rooms
Superb restaurant. The bedroom was very stylish and comfortable. Good car-parking and with easy access to the ports Needed flannels (face-cloths). Coffee making facilities in the room would have been helpful. These were minor imperfections
The room was lovely and the restaurant was amazing. The location was a bit off the beaten path.
The bedrooms were well designed and the beds were very comfortable....The restaurant was amazing for dinner with high class french cooking
Best food ever! None
Courtesy of staff, comfort of facility, and value of money. The design of the rooms is outstanding. Hotel is one of the best I visited recently The choise available at breakfast.
Location was convenient, in that it was close to the train and bus stations, but the surrounding area was a bit dull (10-15 minute walk to restaurants and old town)
Very spacious, well located. Perfectly fine for an inexpensive place to sleep. Very friendly staff Very, very cheap feeling furniture. (The cabinet panel covering the dishwasher fell on my ankle when I tried to open it.) I'm also not a fan of bathrooms with no shower enclosure.
Very quaint and comfortable. Good location to city sights but not so close as to be busy
Loved the location near the D-day beaches; very comfortable beds Hard pillows gave me a headache.
We arrived a day early and we were able to stay for that night as well in the same room. Very friendly staff and good value for money. Room was huge - reminded me some what of a school dormitory! Bathroom had a strange odour.
The location was central to the attractions of Bayeux -- the Cathedral, the Bayeux Tapestry, the restaurants. Our family room, #1, was adjacent to the lobby and very noisy as guests came and went.
The woman running the hotel was very lovely, but spoke NO english, which made it a bit difficult, but with hand gestures and a lot of nods she made us dinner reservations at a great restaurant. It was very convienient to where we were going. The continental breakfast was fantastic and although it typically starts at 8am, she had it ready for us at 7:30 because we had an early departure; very much appreciated! Our bathtub/shower did not have a shower curtain?!
We visited the Normandy beaches and stayed at Le Bayeux two nights. The staff was very accommodating and the breakfast was wonderful. I would highly recommend people visiting this beautiful town and region, staying at the Le Bayeux.
very friendly staff, spacous, great view
Location was outstanding. Easy walking distance to many great restaurants and beautiful sites. Cerainly extremely appreciative of the D-Day Sacrifices and the hotel staff was incredible. My rooms Shower stall was a little tight for me. I am 6' 2" - 210
Perfectly placed, near the town centre, but also in a quiet location with no disturbance at all during the night. The owners are fantastic and go out of their way to make you feel welcome at all times. Their suggestion for a resturant to enjoy dinner was outstanding and less than a 5 min walk from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and would return again myself if the opportunity arose. Also, car parking was the most secure arrangement I have ever encountered, 100% safe.
Hotel staff were very helpful.
Good location and really helpful staff. Breakfast really good. Showers great. Staff arranged for rooms at front of Hotel for security of our motorcycles, although the area is secure. Area is really quiet, so a good nights rest guaranteed. Short walk in to town, where there are many restaurants, although some are very busy, so don't leave it too late.Ten minute walk to the Battle of Normandy museum, and British cemetery, these are a must see. Bayeux is a pretty town with lots to see, and is central if you are visiting the D-Day sites, as we were.
Warm, clean room with good size bathroom. Easy walk to the city and easy to find. Tea and coffee making in the room. Lovely view from the room to the cathedral.
Price Clean Room size...very small
friendly staff the food!
Reasonably priced and close to the center of town The walls are very thin so you can hear everything next door
The hotel was very clean; the rooms are small, but have everything you need. Sheets are crisp, bed is very comfortable. The front desk people were great - gave us good directions to the tourist sites, and spoke excellent English. This is not a fancy hotel, but if you are looking for a clean place to sleep, easy walking distance to Bayeux, at an excellent price, you can't go wrong.
The rooms were clean and very functional and also surprisingly soundproofed considering they are in blocks. Booking in was fast and efficient. We were very disappointed with the main courses of our dinner and also with the service the staff gave. It felt as though we were in a fast-food restaurant being rushed through everything, not a very common experience in France. The food we felt was not at its best (probably microwaved fast freeze products).
Very close to all venues at Bayeux No need to drive
The convenience to the Normandy Day Landing Sites and the easy access to Normandy in general
the room was very clean and large. It was nice to have hot tea & instant coffee in the room. The staff were very accomodating and helpful. We were given only 1 bath towel (for 2 people!), but of course, did not realize this until the next morning.
I found the hotel to be excellent value for money. Totally functional and spotlessly clean. I thought the use of space was fantastic and it had all mod cons. I think this type of hotel would go very well in England and it should be the way forward in buget design hotels.
The staff were welcoming, professional, very friendly. Rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Microwave food offered outside breakfast was not good.
The hotel was in the perfect central location for exploring D-Day sites and easy to find right off the motorway. You have to drive a couple miles into Bayeux to get to restaurants, but not a big issue. The value for money is fantastic. I thought it was great that there is a bed for children at no extra cost, and my kid loved the bunk bed setup. The rooms are very clean, modern, quiet, and the staff are friendly and speak very good English. The only thing I could find that I didn't like was that the mattress was a bit firm for my taste, but that's just a personal preference.
Cost and handy location
Staff very friendly, good breakfast, very clean, easy to find from main road.
Etap is basic 'motel' accomodation. Staff at Bayeux were friendly and helpful at all times. room is sparce but functional. Comfortable bedding, daily clean towels, and very clean. Breakfast if taken is basic continental fare, but no real limit to quantity available. Hotel seems constantly busy with travellers but quiete at night and in a quiete location, but easily found near a major trunk road junction. 10 min. drive from Bayeux, a little too far to walk. One criticism, only relevant if needing to order food in daytime or evening. The 'menu' is a heat and serve type, very limited and sad to say, not of a particularly good standard. Manageable if no other options, but the most basic cafe or bar would be a better choice.
The beds and cleanliness of the hotel were fantastic! And the fact that the rooms was soundproofed made a huge difference to my night's sleep. Wifi in the room was also great. Really convenient if youre looking for a quality hotel for an overnight stop on a roadtrip. Their breakfast wasn't amazing but still, if you're in a hurry to get back on the road, was decent to keep you full for most of the day.
as above went with my son
The fact that it was between both Arromanches beach, Hill 112 and war cemeteries which we wanted to visit. Staff very helpful and friendly and also helped us find a vet before we arrived so that we could get the dogs wormed and ticked before our return ferry crossing. hotel cleanliness immaculate and still allowed dogs to stay in our room. No problems allowing us to change to a ground floor room which suited the dogs better so that they didn't need to use the lift. the quality of the evening food very basic and crepes very bland but service and cleanliness good.
Cleanliness of hotel was fantastic. Very comfortable with good service. Would definately use ETap in future. No dislikes.
Convenient location with free parking, comfortable bed (important), good restaurant No clock in the room
Comfortable bed mattress. Good restaurant. In room kettle & mini fridge (for fresh milk). Would have used pool, if not a cold wet June. Duvet too thick for summer - even with A/C, not enough oblong pillows. Square pillows are uncomfortable.
good clean and comfortable with good access to local historic interests.Helpful friendly staff. Free parking which is always a bonus and good value for money. What I have come to expect from Novotel and accor in general.
the town mattresses were lumpy. carpets were mangy.
The helpfulness of the hotel staff. My husband is in a wheelchair most ot the time and they could not have done more to assist us. We were disappointed by the quality of the food. The menu was rather restricted and was unchanged during our visit. One does expect more by way of excellence when it comes to food in France!
nice clean room ,comfortable bed, staff helpfull ,sky news bar was a bit of a joke
Reception good. Dinner poor, due to cold food and lack of condiments. Car parking good.
Friendly staff, choice of food
Hotel grounds and Location were Fantastic. Standard of Bathroom varied between rooms
Frieindliness and courtesy of staff.
Hotel easy to find clean and tidy rooms staff very helpful No real bad points
Car Parking was convenient and so was the postion of the hotel. The restuarant was expensive and poor quality by comparison
Room (327) facing courtyard-very quiet despite city centre location.Excellent bed & opaque curtains-slept well. The air-conditioning was turned off.No fridge in room.Hot food not replenished at breakfast.
friendly staff easy parking cost
Very noisy outside late into the night. Duvet too heavy and therefore too hot
location,room,breakfast,room service and staff excelent
Proximity to centre of town terrific. Underground car park very convenient. Easy access to restaurants, shopping and Chateau.
Welcoming environment in the hotel. Comfortable lobby, nice and friendly service.
Happy that the reception staff spoke English and were helpful in booking taxis and advising re local information. I did not like the fact that I was unable to get any food before 7 p.m. in the hotel or in fact in the town. I had been travelling all day and there was nowhere to eat anything. Even the hotel's room service was not available in the afternoon - not until 7 p.m.
The location was good, and on Sunday morning there was a market outside.
Very comfortable and quiet no electric kettle or tea cups only problem
The price of the room The room layout
convenience of a kitchen for small meals no laundry facility
Free parking, large clean room, and comfortable bed.
The price, the location, the kitchen facilities No housekeeping during the stay
The appartment was very clean although furniture outdated. Concept was good Short checking-in hours - 2 hours on a weekend!
The hotel was fine;however, the staff only worked until 1900 and I arrived late the night of check-in ... but the staff left keys to the room out for me. Not daily room cleaning service.... no fresh towels the second day.... no toilet paper, shampoo, etc....
Location - finding it was easy and close to bus, tram & shopping. Parking - enough on site. Friendly hotelier with good English. VERY clean! Not spacious, but comfortable. No English TV channels - some English news channels like Sky, CNN or BBC would have been nice. Tiny espresso cups, can't have a 'normal' cup of coffee.
The ability to cook in if I so desired. The room was clean and relatively spacious, the bed comfortable, the shower superb. The hotel was too far removed from center city, and wanted to charge me 10 euros simply to give me access to the phone line.
I loved that it had a kitchenette. The rooms were very clean. The hotel was close to everything without being downtown. The only thing I did not like was the bed. It was suppose to be a double bed but it was actually a bed under a bed.
Reasonable priced hotel well located with good restaurant Rooms need some refurbishment. Selection of menue could be wider catering for fussy teenagers older children restaurant quite expensive. Breakfast not good value restaurant staff not that freindly
Friendly, clean, excellent location. No complaints, loved it.
Well located. Good menu, well presented dishes. Wines charged at silly prices.
The friendly, helpful staff, the excellent situation and the good food and servioce.
This hotel is always a good choice. The restaurant is an excellent choice when staying in here.
Location and good, clean, spacious room. The plumbing was strange. We never managed to get hot water, which the staff did not investigate. There was no shower curtain, making it very difficult to ue shower, without getting the bathroom very wet.
used as a base for visiting the D Day landing sites and museums
Friendly staff, excellent restaurant, great beach location, clean rooms.
The hotel is beautiful situatet. the service perfect. and of course it is fantastic to be at the beaches, where the D-day was effected I have none
Excellent location - perfect for D day landings. We watched the sunset over Mulberry Harbour - just beautiful. no air con and some very noisy neighbours - but that isnt the hotel's fault
Very nice property and staff Nothing
This very charming, well appointed hotel included not only helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly staff but also a workout room, secure fre parking on site, a spacious comfortable twin room with large bathroom providing plenty of counter space. Comfortable It was a little difficult to find even though it was I a superb village location. Watch for signs for the Hotel Churchill. Villa Lara is right next door.
Outstanding hotel with exceptional service. Our room was beautifully furnished and overlooked the cathedral and a nice park/river. Centrally located within Bayeux, and an easy walk to shops, restaurants, and the Bayeux tapestry. The owner.
room layout was spacious. No
Elegant and conveniently located. Professional staff. Room very luxurious with lovely view. No
staff where excellent
Very conveniently located and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.
very comfortable and the duty manager was extremely polite and very helpful very difficult to find even for residents who very kindly offered to escort us. Much clearer directions with greater information particularly about being able to use vehicle on pedestrian access
Spacious room, very friendly staff and secure parking
Good location Car park is very difficult to use (very tight entrance, exit and little room).
The location, and the reception staff went beyond their duties to help us during the strike action.
Facilities, staff and breakfast buffet all excellent. Initial approach to hotel by vehicle was ackward as it required us to drive down a bus/taxi only lane but once we figured that out, everything else was ease. On-site parking is available in a secure underground garage but it is limited so book ahead.
We were only there to sleep a few hours, but it was a nice hotel. Breakfast was nice too. The young man at the desk was incredible! Very difficult to find even with the car navigator, hotel maps, map24 etc. If you don't know Caen, the minute you get in the city, call them on the phone, they speak English perfectly, and they'll guide you in.
in the city centre noisy if room on the side of the street
the constant helpfulness and charm of all the staff - they were always there to help. in fact we arrived one day early so had 4 nights and they were able to accommodate us - paid extra and had a deluxe room which was great. nothing at all
The behavior of the rep was very good. And they can speak English very well. I wish they serve only boiled egg at the breakfast.
central location, overlooking a square with trees and flowers
The staff were very helpful and the rooms were cleaned with fresh linen everyday. The hotel is very central and there is a short walk to shops, food, restaurants. Breakfast is reasonably priced and car parking opposite is also reasonably priced for 24hrs. It would have been nice for the hotel to have a restaurant for evening meals and a better bar area. The rooms lacked comfortable seating.
Friendly staff,excellent location
excellent location, clean and modern and quiet
Town Centre Location was very good No parking, however public underground opposite
One of the better hotels I have stayed in, it ticked most of the boxes. Clean,Friendly, Helpful, Location etc. The rooms were too hot, the air conditioning unit did not work it continually blew out heat.I switched it off and slept with the window open
The room is in good sizeand internet is perfect no
Proximity to the airport was important, we enjoyed the breakfast at the loby restaurant as well.
Location, modern, clean no
We enjoyed the wonderful experience of the hotel and great food....So close to the battle fields.....
Staff was friendly and accomodating, and the room was clean. Restaurant on site and easy to walk around town without having an auto. The rooms and beds are small.
The evening meal was very expensive and although it was O.k it did not warrant the price No lift this should be pointed out at time of booking, for the elderly it is impossible to get to rooms on the third floor
Beautiful building in a pleasant courtyard setting. The location is excellent for visiting the town with on site parking. Good buffet breakfast. The hotel is faded and desperately requires modernisation. A single, discoloured, plastic, plant in each window box defines the standard. The display of celebrities, who have stayed in the past, demonstrates the fall from grace.
The staff was wonderful. Friendly and helpful. The room was a good size, cleans and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was also a good size.
Sophie at reception was welcoming and personable. During our stay, the bar was unavailable due to private parties. This was disappointing as the bar with its large fireplace and frames photos of past celebrities lends this public area considerable charm and ambiance. Also, the breakfast buffet was really just a continenetal breakfast. The egg boiler did not work. The menu in general needs updating.
Dining room very good No lift and limited baggage assistance
Great hotel with a sense of history. Great service, great location, very clean rooms, great service.
The hotel represented absolutely superb value for money - The staff were pleasant, the rooms were immaculately clean with mini-bars, LCD TVs and the most comfortable bed I've found in a hotel in a long time (and I travel all over the world on business). The bathroom decor was a little dated but more than compensated for by the cleanliness and the quality of the shower. The bar which was bedecked with signed photos of everyone from Prince Charles, Eisenhower, Montgomery and Stirling Moss to Tom Hanks, Lauren Bacall, John Wayne and Spencer Tracey who all stayed at the hotel was excellent and the restaurant was also very, very nice with extremely good, attentive service, akin to a quality London or Parisien restaurant. I cannot fault the hotel at all.
location, history of the hotel for the price, a breakfast should be included. nice bar area but no one at the bar to serve you.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is ideally located for exploring central Normandie by car, and the town of Bayeux on foot. Hotel is tired and not quite up to scratch for the price. "free wi-fi internet", but only in small area by reception desk, does not reach bedrooms. tv is billed as having 15 channels, but only 4 in my room. Very limited supply of hot water. Not enough for a shower. As long as you're used to the quirks of small French hotels it's ok. Not sure what North Americans visiting for the first time would think.
Magnificent building set in beautiful grounds.Excellent for a stop off as close to Cherbourg and for visting Bayeux and the famous beaches.Good service. When we have stayed here before the food has been very good. However see below. On the night we stayed Monday 11th Sept there was a fixed menu at night.I appreciate many gourmet restaurants close on Mondays and sometimes Tuesdays but they are missing a trick during the summer months.Further we arrived at lunch and there was no food at all !!
The restaurant was excellent. The room was very comfortable.
beautiful location, services, facilities, breakfast, dinner menu for late check-in
The Chateau was beautiful. We had a very large room (superior room). It was a welcome respite after a day touring the Normandy region in the rain!Enjoyed cocktails in the lounge and dinner by the fire(be sure to ask to be seated in the room with the fireplace) We felt the location was convenient for touring but quite a distance away from other restaurants. The hotel restaurant was very expensive. We felt at least breakfast should have been included in the rates. Service was included but was not mentioned again when we asked.
The hotel looks great from the outside. It was downhill after that. The hotel is isolated. Finding a batman was a challenge. Poor service. Bad rooms. We rejected the first one offered because it smelled damp and were put in the attic. Bathroom was new but decor of room and most of hotel was in dire need of a makeover. Expensive food was not up to normal standards of a Relais and Chateau property. Would recommend avoid this place. No one even answered room service calls on last day and there was no one at reception for over an hour to make up our bill. a bad experience.
We had stayed there once before and we loved the ambiance and the location. The lack of restaurant dinner service and of the bar on Mondays was a drawback. We had a much better experience when we stayed there last July.
Beautiful castle...friendly staff...outstanding kitchen..
Excellent ambience, excellent food, delightful pool, delightful decor, impeccable service, magnificent gardens
Great location; fabulous restaurant; nice rooms; pleasant staff; wonderful place to stay for visit to Normandy
Beautiful building and setting, with lovely gardens - and the food was very good. Enormous, comfy bed! This is an expensive hotel for food and drinks (for France). It seems quite geared towards the tastes of wealthy international tourists, on a particular circuit - and the atmosphere reflects that.
Came in at 13:00 and would not let us check in,,,very upsetting. Breakfast was ok for the money.
The staff was delightful and helpful.
We liked the location, the staff, the cleanliness and the service. The hotel was located in the center of Normandy and was a great location for touring the area. The staff were very nice and many of them spoke English. The hotel was clean and well kept. The service was excellent. The price was reasonable for a hotel of this size and quality. I would recommend the Hotel d'Argouges as a place to stay. Nothing.
Great hotel wih beautiful garden & surroundings, great central location
Lovely garden and delightful decor in the breakfast rooms. Friendly staff Why no no shower curtain water goes on floor creating a huge puddle of water and making floor very slippery and potentially dangerous also no grab handles for getting in and out of bath
Very central and within easy walking distance of the town. The shower in the bathroom was useless.
A very attractive building with a lovely breakfast area and the staff were very helpful in booking another hotel for the next city on our trip.
we were welcomed warmly & they were accommadating with all of our reguests ie booking taxis , booking resturants ect. It was also very convient to town which meant we didnt need to walk far. nothing bad to say.
The staff was exceptionally helpful! None---just wish there was an elevator
Excellent location , a historic building with interesting internal and extrenal features. Good Buffet breakfast Overpriced, Charging for car park.
Clean with good breakfast Room a little small but comfortable. The hotel was far out of Arromanches.
Staff were very helpful, there was plenty of parking space, the room was clean and comfortable.WiFi was available. There was no restaurant facilities only snacks were available and it is 2.5 km to Arromanches.
Price and location No
Excellent friendly service. Rooms spotless and cleaned and tidied daily. Lovely surroundings. Plenty of space. Good breakfasts. Peaceful and tranquil. None
very good food; great location for the normandy beaches and the cemetery; and the roses were lovely
It was a nice environment to relax at, after a day of visiting the Normandy beaches. Small room for its price
Hotel owner was helpful and welcoming, providing useful information about what was going on in the area and where to visit. Good value for money: simple and non-fussy accomodation but clean and comfortable.
Location for visiting the D Day beaches and Bayeux was excellent. Restaurants 3 miles away many choices. Owners were very pleasant and helpful with information about the sites nearby No
Quiet country location and very central to all the sights and sounds of the area. The owners were very accomodating to all our requests. Highly recommend
Staff were quite pleasant and helpful but the overall experience was negative Very cramped room, poor bed,old fashioned sheets and blankets.
