'Gloria' is the key to the Hostal. It has a fabulous location sitting above the pretty village of Viladrau and views across the valley to the high point of Matagalls. The whole area was so beautiful with birdsong and Spring flowers in abundance. The staff were very welcoming indeed and they never seemed to be not working! We ate lunch in the Hostal - excellent quality and good value for the price. Car parking was in a covered area and free of charge. Overall, this was a delightful place to stay - certainly a get-away-from-it-all location with the twisty roads that take you down to Vic (worth a visit). While we were not planning to swim, Hostal de La Gloria does advertise that it has a pool. This takes a little seeking out on a terrace high above the main building. To find that it was unguarded, bright greenish/brown with plant material on the surface, seemed out of keeping with the rest of the hotel!
Perfectly nice hotel for its price. I would definitely recommend it. Our room was pretty spacious, clean, quiet and had easy parking. 2mins walk from the centre of the village
Stunning location, very clean and comfortable room, friendly staff - would definitely return
Very comfortable, clean and lovely surroundings.Would feel happy to recommend it to friends and family. The selection of beers was very poor as there was only one to choose from.
Great difficulty in getting a taxi - reception at hotel failed to book a taxi even given 3 hours notice to do so. Taxi driver who eventually turned up charged us for his journey to the hotel. Tv in room non- functional, but not really used for this trip.
We only stated here for one night as we were attending a wedding in the next village but we wished we could have stayed longer. The scenery is stunning and the hotel itself was lovely. The rooms were nice and spacious, very clean and well maintained. The staff were pleasant and extremely helpful, especially when trying to track down a taxi which is not the easiest task! Nope, it was lovely.
Nice and friendly hostal! We had a very pleasant stay!
The common bar - TV area. The restaurant, cheap and decent food. Lack of light, the TV in our room didn't work.
Excellent location & easy access; experienced & friendly multilingual staff; secure sheltered parking; free wifi in room. Poor lighting in stairwells; poor ventilation in bathroom; lack of variety between daily menus.
The staff were pleasant. Rooms clean. Location excellent - mountains, quiet, authentic village. Fabulous place. Food - simple authentic local. Plenty of parking on site. Breakfast could include a bigger variety of food.
breakfast This Hotel is overpriced. To use the spa and pool costs an extra 30Euros, most of the equpiment didn't work. . The glass shower door which was heavy fell off the bath onto my leg . Had to call the manager to complain as the rest of the staff unhelpful. Vastly overpriced. Room was the smallest I have ever stayed in. This will be the last time I ever stay there. Was 5 star now 4 star and should really be 3 star. Had stayed many times before but not again after the last time.
I adored being able to wear my bathrobe even while sat at the downstairs bar with my laptop enjoying lunch and wifi. The wifi in my room was terrible. It dropped my connection every few minutes because of a weak signal and there was no LAN cable to connect to.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Package desription on website did not explain very well that many parts of the spa were not included.
comfort and convenience
The village, and the staff are polite. Poor value for money, not just the hotel (which is not a luxury hotel by any stretch) but also the food, which is of average quality but pricey. The atmosphere's not a relaxing one, as the staff don't control the children in the pool (even if you complain), and so it has a Port Aventura/Butlins feel. The building is enormous, monolithic and quite ugly, and the rooms are dark with tiny windows, especially on the ground floor and 2nd floor. The staff also speak no Catalan, even to their catalan clients, in a catalan area, adding to the impression of a chain which drafts in staff from the outside and makes no effort to integrate with the village, steeped in catalan history. Doesn't hold a candle to beautiful Balneari Prats, just down the road.
The service is very fast and practical. The room is simple but clean. The localization is not so special.
The hotel is comfortable and reasonably well located and it suited our group of five people.
Staff made excellent restaurant recommendations.
Very staff, very clean hotel, I`ll enjoy to stay again at this hotel. Was a very good option for my family.
inclusive breakfast, free internet, clean and very good showers, window that opened. no English channels on the TV, bit of a hike to downtown Vic
The breakfast was good and cheep, 6 euros. There where free wi-fi in the room. Free parking on the street outside the hotel. The location wasn't to good. The room was nice but the hotel was quite old and havn't been renovated in years.
Very friendly hotel staff. Able to have a smoking room if preferred and it did not smell. Parking was free and not 7 Euros per day as stated. Wireless Internet worked and was free. Good breakfast. Only a 10 minute walk from town. Raining and hotel staff lent me their own personal umbrella No English TV channels - would be nice it have at least an English speaking news channel! For the tennis and football however, it didn't matter! English people like to be able to make coffee in the room - but few European hotels offer this! Booking.com do not have the location right on the map (but I was aware of this but others may not be - it is near to the hospital and not the town as shown)
It must be more clean,
A good hotel, close enough to the town centre, but far enough away to not be disturbed by it. Very friendly and helpful satff
The room was very nice and clean and it had a big bathroom. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Stunning location. Utterly peaceful and relaxing with lovely grounds and amazing views. Food was good and staff very helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this paradour and hope to return one day.
We had a very large room. The dinner was good value! None whatever. The directions given by Booking.com was very hard to follow. But thanks to a police escort there we found it!
The welcome was good, the room(with balcony) was excellent and the position and views were spectacular. Not over impressed with the choice on the menu for dinner
Magnificent setting, luxurious but relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, and because of its remote position it is a real 'switch off' place, although town of Vic and city of Gerona within easy reach. We would love to go again.
Incredible views of the lake, so quiet up there, loved it! The tennis court was closed, it just needs a few days work to be ok again, don't know why they can't be bothered
The location was nice and the hotel was comfortable. The staff could have been warmer and breakfast could have been better.
Beautiful lake view though you have to book a premium room The dinner was mediocre.
The hotel is beautifully located, very quiet and there is a great swimming pool. The rooms are spacious, the views are great and food was good. Service at check-in was slow, room was not completely clean, info about things to do around hotel is limited. They indicate the activities but do not indicate distances, times etc etc. Prices of drinks and food at hotel are quite high.
Fantastic view on the lake, a bit remore but quite easy reach from Vic. Very nice hotel, modern. The best breakfast I know in 4* hotels, varied and very good quality. Restaurant (evening) not really at "gastronomic" level. Staff not very friendly.
Beautiful location, a real surprise over the dam/lake.The hotel was wonderful, big rooms, view, could have stayed there forever. Sorry it was too cool for a dip, the pool looked so inviting. Thanks for the upgrade of room. We loved it. Good dinner and excellent breakfast!Recommended for families too.
The situation of the hotel I felt the breakfast was poor
Internet was not working.
It was a short strip to go to a wedding. so it was only somewhere to sleep, didn't go anywhere else
Hotel was very clean and very close to city center. Staff was very helpful. I stayed in a single room and it was extremely tiny. Facilities could use a renovation. And the bed too.It was a bit noisy too, you could even hear other guests drying their hair in the next room and the wheels of the carry ons at 6am.Internet was overpriced.Breakfast was not very good and a bit expensive.
Location is great, especially if you plan to tour the city and do some shopping.
Toilet has only a glass door, which does'nt close hermetically.
i like the cleanliness of your room and receiptionists are friendly and polite. if you could provide free wifi internet at your hotel
the peace and quiet finding out that you have to pay for the spa facilities. also the hot food was always luke warm so had to keep using the micro wave.
Location, views and rural position as described. Food excellent buffet/grill, choice of foods excellent. Room large, balcony useful. Room cleaning excellent and unobtrusive. Based on our experience, a mature coulple who left their children at home seeking peace and relaxation as described on the web site, we were disappointed to find the whole place taken over by families with 2 or 3 under fives. The restaurant was nothing short of a school dining hall at all meal times, noisy and unwelcoming to the couple seeking a glass of wine and quiet conversation. We realise it was the Easter holidays but would have appreciated the prior warning that the whole of Spain would be there on a family break. The web site should read "A child friendly resort for the under fives"
wery frendly, nice suranding. calm people. good breakfast. nice building. and the nater of Montseny, with the small viliges. made us hapy.
location excellent for touring in this area. Restaurant was more like a school canteen, lots of children running about around unsupervised. Food average. Not suitable for couples without children. Local restaurants in town not open at this time of year.
Friendly helpful welcome, characterful hotel, rich colours, beautifully situated A bit expensive, food interesting but a little too quick (i.e. warmed up?)
Beautiful and quiet place in nature reserve. Nice rooms, but quite hot during the nights. Very good restaurant. Nice swimming pool area. No airconditioning with outside temperatures up to 35 C during the day
