Hostal Rural Villa Vieja - Olite - Building
1
9.2 Excellent (1,280 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Situated in the Medieval centre, this hotel is located just a 2-minute walk from the fabulous Olite Palace and nestled within the beautiful, rural surroundings of Navarra. Take the short stroll down one of the most attractive streets in Olite to the impressive Palace. Once a castle to the Visigoth kings, it was then converted to a Palacial home by Charles III. You will notice the eclectic mix of architecture that combines Gothic arches with turreted walls and regal gardens. After a busy day of Medieval culture, return back to the simple comforts of Hotel Rural with its clever contrast of the traditional façade and sleek interior design. Breakfast is served in the café. Gluten-free breakfasts are available on prior request.

Pros: The owner was friendly, and sent me a message wishing me well after I had left. The location was just round the corner from the only church in town offering an 8 am mass on Sunday morning.
Cons: Someone had to ring up and summon the owner (but he did arrive very quickly)

Cons: Shared bathroom
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location in center
Cons: Building very noisy, from other rooms and the hallway but also from outside and the bar on the ground floor. Pension doesn't have child beds. Bathroom outside the room despite the fact that we chose a room without mentioning that.

Pros: the host is really nice and helpful. Highly recommended
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owner was the most friendly and accomodating. Muchas Gracias para todo Andre!
6.3 Good
Pros: Out host was very agreeable but the facilities are fairly basic. It's been a long time since I haven't had en-suite facilities! However, it was fairly central and close to the motorway. We only needed an overnight stop on our way to the ferry and it was great for that.
Cons: No plug in the sink.

3

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location was good
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice and cozy place with a reasonable price tag. Big room, decorated with taste with a lot of Spanish/rural details. The shared kitchen was a big plus with everything we needed to make a meal and with a lovely common area. The owner was great and very helpful with all the information she gave us about the Bardenas Reales. The Bardenas entrance is really near and the Cuevas de Arguedas are a walking distance.
Cons: Despite being close to Bardenas Reales and to Cuevas de Arguedas, the town center where the guesthouse stays isn't that pretty and quite confusing if you're driving. But that is a minor issue and not at all the owner's fault.
7.0 Good
Pros: We only stayed one night as we had visited the Bardenas Reales that day and then we were moving on. We didn't stay for breakfast as we left early the next morning. The room we had was fine for our requirements, although we are unlikely to stay again. My husband found the bed too short for him when he layed down as he is quite tall so he had an uncomfortable night's sleep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really Spanish, really interesting, good WiFi and lovely breakfast. The village is delightful, and the area around is breathtaking.
Cons: No secure parking- but in fairness the area appears to be safe. In the ‘apartment’ the two bedrooms are really one split level room, divided with a curtain! No privacy at all!

Cons: Nothing obvious could have been better.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff, room (especially shower) and location.
Cons: With our reservation breakfast wasn't included and I thought Kayak originally said it was.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The central location and character of the Hotel
7.5 Good
Pros: Secure Garage for motorbike and comfortable beds. Lovely meal at Merindad de Olite restaurant. Coffee house around corner great for breakfast.
Cons: Just a sheet on the bed and small blanket. Very quiet in town with little choice of places to eat.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A really nice little hotel, comfortable, well located and very easy to find. Room was spacious with a lovely little enclosed balcony over the street. On site underground parking which is nice, although a little tight if your car is larger. Staff are lovely and very helpful as are the staff in the on-site public restaurant. Our meal there was very good.
Cons: The hotel could do with a lounge or somewhere to sit, even in the lobby would do but access to the public restaurant I guess precludes that. If I had to complain about anything it would be that the bathroom floor could use a scrub. The mini tiles seem to have caught a lot of dirt in the grout but a quick scrub I am sure would work wonders. Everything else was beautifully clean.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location, big room and bathroom. Good food in the restaurant. Air Conditioning .
6.8 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good.
Cons: Unfortunately our friends had to change rooms as there was no air con and no windows to open so the room was like a sauna. The room they were given wasn't much better as the air con dripped and the toilet constantly dripped aswell.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Rooms dark Breakfast poor
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Underground car park for our convertible car. Proximity to the castle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The greeting we received was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is very well appointed. Good quality rooms with excellent showers and very comfortable beds. The air con was switched on before we arrived and the room was cool despite the 40 degree heat. Good location with secure parking. We gave the restaurant a try and the waitress , Christianna was very helpful and encouraged us to try the local food which was excellent. The breakfast provided a good variety and everything was fresh. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel.
Cons: Nothing.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excelent lunch. The restaurant if fenomanal for lunch. Friendly staff.
Cons: The breakfast is ridiculous. Stale orange jiuce, tap water, no eggs etc. worse breakfast ever, and i live on the road
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly helpful staff. Great room. The best shower I have had in years. Good breakfast if you're interested.
Cons: Nothing. There isn't to dislike. Don't take too big a car as the entrance to the garage is tight. Also on leaving you drive the wrong way. It's not far 50metres.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Sparkling clean, nice beds and shower. Everything you need was available. The village was lively as well, we especially recommend restaurant “Venus”, which had some great food and lovely service.
Cons: Check-in felt a bit impersonal, but overall, for just €50 this is great value for money.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Exceptionally clean and better then I expected for a guest house, with both a terrace and a lounge for guests' use.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very friendly and did everything to make our stay enjoyable.

Casa Rural de la Abuela - Cadreita - Bedroom
9
8.7 Excellent (159 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Esperanza (the host) is a welcoming and lovely lady. She made great breakfast and told wonderful and funny stories. Made our day!
Cons: All good!
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The ecological footprint of the bath'room' is a miracle. On 40x40 inches there is a wash-bowl, a toilet and a shower sink (25x25inches). And the plastic curtain sticks snugly to your body whilst the water trickles down on you. And yes, it is really close to the Bardenas, but you should consider going there by camping car.
Cons: In the same house stayed for the night men who were not tourists, they made noise until 23:30 they cooked their meal and all the bad smell was in the whole house and in our room. We arrived in a dark entrance room with the curtains closed in the evening and also in the morning. Strange welcome: first a neighbor from the street showing us a room, then a lady arriving for some minutes and changed to a different room and in the morning was there to cash the money. we asked for a breakfast when arriving but we have not got one as agreed . We did not feel on holidays and it was a really bad experience. We don't understand the ton of superb and great descriptions from other visitors, thus something must have changed in the meantime - but unfortunately for us not for the better.
Parador de Olite - Olite - Building
10
8.6 Excellent (1,347 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Parador de Olite, you'll be centrally located in Olite, steps from Museo del Vino and within a 5-minute walk of Palacio Real de Olite. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful historic castle setting. Well appointed room. Quiet. Good air conditioning. Impressive common areas. One aside room of the main lounge was A prison! Interesting menu at the restaurants.
Cons: Parking was in a public area several blocks away. Wasn’t sure if my car was totally safe. Since spaces were tight, I was concerned that someone could have bumped into my car or scratched it and I would have to pay the rental company. There was no assurance from Parador on how to handle such a situation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a really interesting place to spend a night. Attached to the castle, it had a great location in the old part of town. Finding it via the GPS was a bit tricky. You need to drive down what appears to be a pedestrian walk way to upload and check in, 20 minute parking. Then move the car about a 5 minute walk away. We also enjoyed the Olite escape room, which is about a 15 minutes walking.
Cons: The only issue is that it was hard to find the main entrance.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding property in a beautiful and charming town. The castle next door is beyond magical. Expertly restored and delightful to explore. I would highly recommend this parador to anyone who wants to experience a lovely medieval Spanish town.
Cons: All good.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: End of road trip, tired and grumpy but perfect place to end. No fuss, big room. Easy access.
Cons: We were by far the youngest guests - I’m 60!
8.3 Excellent
Cons: The beds and bedding are poor
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great Location as The hotel sits besides the spectacularly restored medieval Olite Palace
Cons: The parador is a relatively new/53 years old hotel built behind the walls of the old palace. The inside has pleasant spaces but is over-decorated in a medieval style. The abundance of heavy curtains and semi-old and sometimes even dirty looking carpets is simply too much. The building would look better/more monumental without it. On top of it, it triggered an allergy in one of our family members.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room
Cons: none
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The Parador building, the atmosphere and location
Cons: Airco in the room not powerful
6.8 Good
Pros: The bed was harsh & the pillows hard noisy place

Parador de Calahorra - Calahorra - Building
12
8.5 Excellent (1,058 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Calahorra, Parador de Calahorra is within a 15-minute walk of Museo de la Verdura and Cathedral of Santa Maria. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, express check-in, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location is excellent for returning to UK from Santander. Hotel is right in centre of town which is very pleasant. It lived up to our high expectations of a Parador
Cons: The only thing that wasn't up to standard was the waiter in the bar appeared miserable, but the wine and olives were lovely.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Near town and on site parking.
Cons: Nothing
7.0 Good
Cons: The food in the restaurant was poor and not good quality. The English discription of the dishes chosen did not match. The lasting memory is that we would not choose this Parador again.
6.8 Good
Pros: Location was OK. Restaurant was also okay ( a bit pricey) . Free Parking.
Cons: I specifically asked for a top floor quiet room. My request was completely ignored and I was put on the second floor. At 3am there was a lot of noise upstairs. The hotel is built on wooden squeaky floors. I called reception and they called the room upstairs. There was noise until 4 am and....from 7 am! The next day I was told by the receptionist that the noisy guests had checked in.... at 3 am!!! I was given another room on the 3rd floor for my second night. I also have to say that 16 euro for breakfast, at least in Spain, is a total rip off. No matter how good it is. I said this before regarding other hotels and I will keep saying it: In Spain, Portugal, Greece, 90% of people do not eat an English breakfast. Hotel chains simply do not care and 90% of them removed the continental option. Yes, most of us would settle for having good coffee and a toast and for that, in this case, we had to walk out of the hotel in the blistering cold to look for a café and pay 3 euro for a good breakfast. Other and much better Paradores, in much more touristic places of spain, charge 11 or 12 euro for breakfast.
5.8 Okay
Pros: A hotel group that offers a vertaling expected quality. It is also what you get. Most of the time ****. The hotel offers it.
Cons: The diner facility. Even though to be very clear the have course after course it seems the kitchen wants to push as soon as possible the food through the chain. I made it clear at the waitress but after ending the first course I even had my cave Still not ended and the second course came.
7.7 Good
Pros: The hotel is a good facility and feels historic. My room had a nice view of the countryside.
Cons: The internet service at the hotel is terrible. I stayed here 6 years ago as well and it was terrible then. One would think that they would have upgraded since that time, but no. The wi-fi doesn't reach all rooms and even when connected to a strong signal in the central area, the service is extremely slow, particularly at busy times.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Superb position and lovely views over the town and surrounding sierras. Very charming interior. Large room with period furniture.
Cons: Restaurant opened late and we were the only 2 diners initially (it was a Monday evening). Restaurant staff then wanted to rush us through with no politeness. The food was very nice. Our room was overly hot and the sound proofing very poor.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, service
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a beautiful/lovely hotel to stay. Fabulous decor and antiques. Especially loved the roof-top terrace even though it was windy. What a great place to stay and the village is lovely too.
Cons: Nothing.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location was excellent for an overnight stay. We ate in the restaurant which was also nice, if not a bit expensive.
Cons: ‘Add ons’ in the restaurant - a bit petty to add a cover charge. Parking is a bit iffey although this is not the fault of the Hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast, exceptional stay in this lovely quirky hotel, absolutely spotless in brilliant location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great evening meal, fantastic choice of wines from bodega, recommend Ochoa. Delicious breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent restaurant with a wine list at retail prices as they have a shop selling wine. Breakfast was lovely. We preferred staying here to the parador next door where we stayed last year.
Cons: For us there was nothing we did not like it was perfect for what we wanted and extremely good value
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the location was superb - a beautiful town.Well worth a visit. The castle was amazing & some lovely bars. Will be back!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel, very clean, central location. Comfortable room and bed. Excellent restaurant.
Cons: wifi didn't work in the room in the evening
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant offered large selection of wine that could be bought by the glass or by the bottle from the incorporated wine cellar/shop. View from the room.
Cons: Nothing to dislike. Everything met expectations - even the 200m. walk to the parking (after all, we were in old walled town and the parking was free).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff are tremendous, informative, proud of their town. The food in this hotel is wonderful local fresh and delicious. The standard is the same in the bar and resteraunt and very reasonable. The rooms to front of the hotel overlook the narrow romantic streets. Those to the rear the plains. The roof terrace is a great place to sunbathe private and quiet.
Cons: The stairs! It is not the hotels' fault it is a very old city but there are stairs everywhere and because of the age of the building no lift inside.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is a really lovely boutique type hotel. Seemingly family run with a cosy feel in terms of furniture and fittings - mostly antique style. Lovely comfy beds with beautiful linen and towels changed daily. Beautiful setting within short walk of 2 squares for lots of "people watching" over a chilled glass of Rose, surrounded by old, historic buildings and cobbled streets. We stayed on our way from the Ferry at Bilbao to Alicante and liked it so much we had another 2 night stay when we did the return route 4 weeks later. Will definitely go back if we get the opportunity. Try the restaurant attached to the hotel - excellent and noted locally for its food and wine.
Cons: Hard to find fault but it would have been nice if the bar/outside seating area had been open for service outside the restaurant opening hours. But that would have meant employing more staff, which probably wouldn't be cost effective. Car parking is a short walk away but that applies to all hotels in Olite due to the nature of the town, and it does seem to be very "safe".

Pros: The hotel itself and its location
Cons: Breakfast, and although we had not booked breakfasts we were forced to pay for them even if we did not eat them.
6.8 Good
Pros: Hotel was comfortable, but not quite what it said on the tin,i.e. " a superior room" ? It was a nice room, but having stayed in a number of 2,3 star hotels in Spain ( which have been fine) I don't think that this room was superior to the usual high standard.
Cons: The mananagers anti Jewish opinions.

We have booked again to stay on our next visit in August. The staff were so helpful and pleasant.
Cons: There was nothing we didnt like, the hotel is just right for a stopover on our travel through Spain. Not a lot to see as this is a small but nice village.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, staff, room. We had requested a room facing the rear of the property, however this was changed by the staff as the room would have had the sun shining into it and it was 44 degrees in the shade. Obviously thinking of their guests.

7.5 Good
Pros: The building had character. Facilities were adequate. It was only a five minute drive to historical town of Olite.
Cons: As cafes and restaurants were not close access to a refrigerator would have been helpful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: great atmosphere, in an old monastery. Situated in a lovely old village, only 3 km from Olite. Very good breakfast.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Air conditioning, breakfast was plentiful with Iberian ham, toast, bread, butter, jams, fresh fruit, cereals, four different kinds of milk etc. etc. Conveniently situated (if you have a car) for Olite and Petilla (pools in both places). Little to do in Biere but it does have a restaurant and two bars. The shop opens mornings only. Very clean rooms, white sheets & towels, comfortable beds, fascinating, peaceful building, two lounges - both equipped with TV. Very peaceful and I'd stay here again. The pool in Petilla is the agricultural looking building on the left as you enter Petilla - there are NO signposts! There's a barbecue area just across the road from the main entrance so you could buy some nosh from Olite and have a barby if the mood takes you.
Cons: No TV in room (but more than compensated for by the two lounges with TV), dodgy internet connection. Sound and vibration proofing could be better; I awoke to a trembling bed and thought the missus was having a nightmare. I then observed that she was stock still and the vibrations were coming from next door!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stunning setting, stunning building, fantastic meal, lovely people, this is authentic Spain at its finest

7.5 Good
Pros: Just off motorway, plenty of open parking, quite modern facilities. Could not quite understand if it was an hotel, a local hostelry or a gaming salon. It had a gym, sauna, a cafeteria, a gaming room, a shower-room, rows of desks, a bar, two statues of Humphrey Bogart, an open meeting room and nice gardens. It suited us for a comfortable overnight stay en route to Costa Blanca. Breakfast good, plenty of choice from the many laden buffet tables. WiFi good and free.
Cons: We arrived during a big storm with thunder and lightning and torrential rain but that’s not the fault of the hotel rather its location which is quite exposed. There is a Go-cart track alongside which could be an advantage for kids’ entertainment but maybe quite noisy when in use. The hotel was very very hot, the corridors were stifling with no circulation of air but bedrooms had good aircon and you could open doors onto the balconies (except for us as it was pouring with rain coming directly at us!)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Well furnished hotel with good facilities in a good location as a midway point between Bilbao and Alicante.
Cons: As this is a family hotel the restaurant is overrun with children running around unsupervised and very loud. Another thing to be aware of is we noticed in the car park there were a few piles of broken glass around that appeared to be broken side windows so be aware not to leave valuables on display.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The dinner and breakfast was excellent but the bar was very busy difficult to get served
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Have been coming here for years mainly because it is dog friendly ; surrounded by fields you can access.loads of rabbbits , my dog loves it.Hotel has improved over the years with an ongoing programme of room refurbishment etc. We have never used the dinning room ( no dogs ) but find the 24 hour buffet sufficient for our travelling needs
Cons: There is no outside area with tables and chairs where you could site and enjoy a drink .( Dont wish to sit with the smelly smokers and their ash trays )
