Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great host, excellent breakfast! Quiet, very clean, nice garden, close to a small water channel.
Cons: Shared bathroom, but this was really not an issue, there are only 3 rooms. It is a great place for a family with kids. You will feel like at home. And you can enjoy excellent drinks at more than reasonable prices. Local champagne at 13.50...it is a great deal!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was fantastic, the house is amazing and so clean. Breakfast was delivered in the moment. This was just somewhere to put our head for the night as we was on our way to the South of France but it was much, much more. The garden was equipped for children, it had a lovely stream at the back. The owners are friendly. Absolutely amazing, I wish we could have stayed for longer. The house is so comfortable.
Cons: Nothing it was fantastic

Pros: It is a great place, great people running this place, it was a pleasure to spend a night during a long trip, to have a chat with our hostess.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The house was beautiful.
Cons: Breakfast was terrible, 1 slice of ham each and quarter of a baguette and 2 small bread buns. The owner wasn't there at the time and asked a friend to welcome us however she only spoke French unfortunately we don't speak French. Apparently this is why we didn't get a proper Breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything from the host to the house, beds, bread delivered fresh in the morning One of the best places I’ve stayed
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostess is incredible, so warm, nice and generous! Couldn’t get better! Generous and delicious breakfast. Clean and comfortable rooms. Everything is just perfect or even better!
7.5 Good
Pros: The owner is very friendly and means well. The suite was spacy and comfy. Breakfast was nice: bread, croissant, home made jam and honey, corn flakes, grapes, cheese, coffee, tea and juice. Location: in a town without shops or restaurants. You have to drive about 7 kilometers to the nearest town. We received a small bottle of champagne when we left. Free parking space on the property. The rate of 110 euros for a night with breakfast (2 adults and 2 children), without aircon is rather pricy.
Cons: Unfortunately, when we stayed it was exeptionaly very hot. Without airconditioning it takes a while before you fall asleep. We woke up several times during the night. The owner appologized.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic host, couldn't do enough for us even though we could only communicate through a combination of broken French and broken English. Would definitely recommend.
Cons: There was no fan or air con so the room was extremely hot during the heatwave.

Such a great evening. Our room was extremely comfortable, well appointed and immaculately clean. The location in a beautiful quiet village was perfect after our drive from Calais. We can’t wait to return towards the end of July

Pros: We had a fantastic stay, sadly only one night. The hosts are welcoming and sociable and we enjoyed the pre-arranged evening meal very much. Breakfast wasd a relaxed affair in the garden by the pool and excellent. Our room was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a lovely and unique place to stay. Christine and Denis are the most wonderful friendly hosts. Christine also offers a 3 course evening meal (this is extra at 20 euro per person and is fantastic value for money). She cooks all the food herself from home produce grown on their land. Breakfast, which is included, is traditionally French the differnce being it is all home baked and served with home made jams, honey from their own bees, fruits and yoghurts plus more goodies too many to mention! We shall definately stay again on our mid way trip to and from home in England. Highly recommended :)
Cons: It's not easy to find so make sure you get clear dirctions before hand and please don't expect your sat nav to be of any use!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Christine and her husband were the most welcoming, delightful hosts with a terrific sense of humour. Christine served up the most delicious evening meal and the home made aperitif was a lovely addition. Breakfast was equally as lovely. The aperitifs and breakfast were both served outdoors. You could really want for nothing there. Their property is in a very pretty village.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Marie Christine and Denis were so welcoming and, after a long journey, Marie Christine offered she could cook us dinner, which was lovely. Denis even showed us his bee keeping after dinner. The house is beautifully located on the river and the area is wonderfully quiet. We will definitely return when in the area and would like to stay a few days longer to enjoy the tranquility and wonderful hosts.
Cons: Can't think of anything!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brigitte was the most wonderful host, friendly, funny, helpful and generous with her time. The house is homely with great traditionally furnished rooms and clean bathrooms in the hallway. The property is on the outskirts of a small village with few amenities and close to many of the WW1 memorial and battle sites. Brigitte herself is a battlefield guide so contact her before your stay if you’d like your relatives military history researching. I rarely rate the places we stay but we felt so welcome here and the house and garden were so lovely that I felt compelled to do so. Thank you Brigitte.

6.8 Good
Pros: The accomodation was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable, bedding and towels were supplied, staff were friendly.
Cons: The accomodation was tiny, smaller than it looks in the photographs and very stuffy. It is designed to look like a wine vat or beer barrel, and tiny flakes of wood dropped onto the bed and into the shower tray. It is not suitable to travel there with a dog as the space is so small . Our dog doesn’t the night in our bed because of this. The are outside the “barrel” was covered in weeds and undergrowth which also poked through the tiny decked area. The whole campsite had an unkempt and poorly maintained feel to it, in complete contrast to all the other campsites we have stayed on. For the two of us and the dog, it was 89 euros, and poor value for money. We wouldn’t stay there again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very easy to find, with off road parking. Check in was easy and pleasant and was nice to be shown to my room, which was on the ground floor. There is a nice sized swimming pool, which is clean and well maintained. The bedroom was spacious and clean as was the bathroom, and it was very quiet at night. I ate in the restaurant in the evening, and as it was a warm evening, I eat in the garden. The service and food were excellent, with a good menu choice. There was a very good selection at breakfast, with very good coffee. I would certainly stay here again and highly recommend it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely rural setting, full of character and delightful food - perfect overnight stay
Cons: It was hot, a heatwave actually, so a fan in the room would have been appreciated
5.5 Okay
Pros: The room was quiet
Cons: The facilities were extremely basic. There were hundreds of flies in the restaurant getting all over the food - there was no effort made to minimise this. Whilst not the owners fault the smell of manure from neighbouring farms was overwhelming and really not pleasant at all,
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast, wide choice, all fresh, lovely coffee.

7.5 Good
Pros: The amenities and ambience.
Cons: The menu prices were excessive for good quality but not exceptional food. The same for the price of all drinks.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Contrary to a recent review our room was immaculate, spacious with modern facilities and a good standard of decor. The evening meal in the restaurant was excellent and breakfast generous and imaginative. The staff were friendly and offered to assist with our luggage.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice Location with great heritage and a calm surrounding.
Cons: The Restaurant feels a bit clean and there is no lunch or snack opportunity during the day.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The property from the outside gave great expectations, beautiful building, lovely pools and gardens, however the inside was a different story.
Cons: The classic room was very small and in this very small room there were no fewer than 5 doors! One opens to a tiny toilet, not big enough to pull your trousers back up without hitting the wall, another opens to a sink, however you then have to go to the other side of the bed to open another door into a small shower. The room had a small half size window which didn’t let in much light. It was a dreadful room. The property was furnished with what looked like a selection of random items from a flea market with very little care and attention to any particular style. Whilst my selection from the set menu was excellent my husband’s main of duck was not, the duck was tasteless and chewy. This is the first time that I have been so dissatisfied with a stay that I have felt the need to give feedback.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The chef is a genius, a master at his art. The rooms are very spacious, very elegant, the gardens and pool a delight .
Cons: I thought is was superb in every detail.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: There was lots of hot water, air conditioning was great. Good choice at breakfast, fabulous dinner. Grounds and gardens around spa well maintained. Loved the roll top bath.
Cons: Fridge in room too noisy. Espresso machine in room did not work. The white gravel outside was a mistake. The dust got everywhere.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent dinner & wine
Cons: Could have sat outside
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely castle in the middle of nowhere, with pool, spa, one star restaurant and very comfortable rooms.
Cons: The path to the big pool should need a renovation .
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location convenient as stop on longer journey
Cons: No signage to hotel at all. Very difficult to find.
6.3 Good
Pros: Calm and peaceful place, in the middle of nowhere. Felt very relaxed there. The food in the restaurant was lovely.
Cons: The room we were given was not up to the standard expected for the price we paid. It was very tired, in need of a good refurbishment and some repairs. The staff were great when we complained and gave us a free room upgrade which was much appreciated. The whole chateau and grounds were also very tired, and not worthy of the prices charged. We wanted something special and it was not special. The breakfast was ok but not worth the £19 each we paid for it. I would have hoped for more than just a small buffet.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the prestige suite for one night, which includes a master room, a lounge with a large sofa bed and a bathroom - with a spa bath and huge shower. It was beautiful and had everything we needed for a family of 4. Being in an old part of the building, the suite was cool, though did lack air conditioning meaning we struggled to sleep in the heat. We ate in the restaurant that evening. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Proper French food overlooking the waterwheel of the old mill. Our children enjoyed the pool and there is even a little spa area that you can book out during your stay should you desire. A great night following a busy day at Nigloland just next door.

Pros: Lovely room and dinner was perfect
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly service, excellent breakfast, very comfortable room (despite the flies and poor view), good food and service in the restaurant (the Michelin star was why we chose to stay there on our drive back from London to Geneva). Really lovely rolling countryside and a delight to be in Champagne just as the wine harvest began.
Cons: The view from the bedroom was really poor (outlook on to the gravel undercroft beneath the kitchen and the empty wine bottle store); the bathroom looked very nice but the roll-top bath with hand shower and no curtain was not practical. Lots of flies in the room. The tour de champignons menu was not the tour we'd expected (dominated mostly by chanterelles) and the replacement dish for the first course and the dessert were rather disappointing. Discovered a wonderful new champagne in the restaurant (but at more than three times its retail price - we bought some from the cave in Colombe le Sec the next morning).
10.0 Excellent
Cons: There wasn’t any hotel parking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hostellerie La Montagne is a first class restaurant, with beautiful rooms and superb staff, all set in a stunning location. The cost of the room is exceptional value, and the restaurant prices are completely justifiable, but not for the faint hearted. Spending time in the beautiful village and visiting the memorial and museum to General de Gaulle is an added bonus, Using the quiet N19 road between Troyes and Belfort makes this an ideal stop over as a special treat for those driving between the UK and Switzerland.
Cons: The car park is a short walk away, but you can park safely on the road outside.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic food
Cons: Noises of restaurant above our room
7.5 Good
Pros: Restaurant excellent
Cons: Booking .Com rate was 20 euros more than the hotel rate.
6.8 Good
Pros: The dinner was beautifully prepared and delicious. The breakfasts were reasonable but choice of fresh fruit was limited and the orange juice was pasteurised and not freshly squeezed. The dining room was smart and there was an attractive terrace on which to eat and drink in fine weather.
Cons: Our bedroom. It was spacious and had probably been repainted in recent years. But the small bedroom window looked out on a covered area about 20 feet in depth where one could park one's car and only beyond this "garage" area could one catch a glimpse of sunlight and the countryside. Result - a very dark bedroom where it was necessary to use the electric light all the time. The w.c., opening off the bedroom did have a porthole window but the bathroom itself had no window and was equipped with old fitments e.g. a bath with legs and very high sides from which older people would have difficulty in getting out. Drawbacks probably reflected in the relatively modest price of the room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent, rural in an attractive village. Breakfast was average. The food, wine and service were all excellent. The rooms were comfortable with good sized beds.
Cons: The welcome on arrival was poor. There was a notable lack of a 'mine host' and there were no flowers of any description. Very poor Wi-fi connection.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After the TGV got cancelled we decided to drive to Paris. It turned out to be further than expected and we had to find a place to stay. We arrived late. The room was fantastic. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was super friendly and asked if we would like to eat a little in their Michelin star restaurant. It was excellent.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s a great one nighter from our Spanish base to Calais
Cons: The weather was awful and the room took a long while to heat up. The main part of the building bar and restaurant could have been more effectively heated. We missed the patron . The staff were adequate but not exactly over warm and friendly. Gin selection a disaster this year we didn’t feel welcome and we’re treated as just another place to stay. Adequate great wine menu but nobody really there to guide you . Mire could have been done to make you feel cosy and welcome
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant is very good and there is plenty of parking. We also liked the alpacas!
Cons: Our bathroom was probably due for refurbishment but was not terrible.
6.8 Good
Cons: Room 4: the room had a very strong damp, musty smell. We had to open the windows and prop open the bedroom door to air it. In the morning the inside of the windows were covered with condensation so I think there are issues with damp. It was fine for a night but I wouldn’t want to stay longer. The restaurant: We chose this hotel as it had a restaurant, so after a long drive we’d be able to relax and enjoy our evening. I’m vegetarian and gluten intolerant so when I booked (a few weeks before our stay) I sent a request to the hotel to ask if they could cater for me. I received a really positive reply “yes we can provide a vegetarian and gluten free dinner” On arrival we were seated and given menus. The a bread basket and and canapés were brought to our table. I couldn’t see anything suitable for my dietary requirements on the menu so explained to the waitress that I was vegetarian and allergic to gluten and that I’d emailed in advance. She went off to check. When she finally returned she just asked if we’d chosen. So again I said I was waiting to find out what my options were. She seemed perturbed by this and in an very offhand manner said I could just have a salad and some vegetables. I explained again that I’d sent an email and thought that something had been arranged. She huffed and reluctantly went to check with the kitchen. After some time she again returned and said they could do the a salad starter and a plate of vegetables for main. When I said I wasn’t happy and that in vegetables were a side dish not a main meal*, she rolled her eyes, huffed and said that their other customers were usually happy with this. The waitress was incredibly rude and dismissive throughout this discourse so we decided to leave and find somewhere else to eat. On leaving the hotel we found the waitress reporting our complaint to the owner. I again explained that I’d emailed in advance and was expecting to be offered more than just a plate of vegetables.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Horrible place to stay
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I got lost getting off at the wrong motorway exit. I rang the hotel late and amazingly presumably the owner came out to Bar sur Aube at midnight to direct me to the hotel, it was amazing and such grace. I don't know what I would have done, it was dark, in the middle of nowhere and I was so exhausted. I will definitely return and my partner will stay again in June or soon after en route to the UK as well as it's perfectly located off the motorway.
Cons: The fact that Clairvaux wasn't listed on my sat nav, I guess it's too small a place but their brochure shows the name of the town and that is listed on the map I had and in my sat nav.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: The hotel is cozy and broadly clean a bit dusty here and there but as per 2 stars standard. Location was perfect for a overnight stop. The staff was friendly, accommodating, it could benefit them to have multilingual staff although we manage to understand each other with the litlle French that we knew from school.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: we had two interconnected rooms which was perfect for our family of 4. also, because when we arrived, which was very late, but pre-arranged, the owner didn't leave the correct keys at reception, so we had to call the manager to bring us the keys for the room. they done this very quickly, and we then received a free breakfast for all four of us the next morning as a compensation for the inconvenience .
Cons: they made unfortunately the mistake not to leave the right keys for our rooms, so we had to wait in the middle of the night for the keys to be brought to the hotel. But these things happen, and they were very nice and apologetic, and gave us free breakfast the next morning. So, all good!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice clean hotel in good setting
Cons: We arrived around 3pm hotel was locked with a notice stating that due to the grape picking season starting, there would be no restaurant (dinner) facilities available to guests. We discovered that over 100 grape pickers were staying and eating in the hotel - hence no facilities for other guests! An advance warning of this would have been nice as we were travelling with a dog and only stay in hotels billed as dog friendly. With notice, we could have made other arrangements. They let us down badly. Bedroom was on the small side on this occasion with only a 3/4 size bed.
