Pros: Everything! This was a place for someone who was looking to experience beautiful French atmosphere, meet nice people and who loves rich and green nature. Castle was extremely clean, comfortable and has simply adorable owners.
Pros: Very nice and charming location. The easy way to feel like a french landlord in his manor. But don't be too keen - the real owner of this castle is always around
Cons: A bottle of wine on the terrace by the pool would have been nice ... you need to buy it in advance, on the road. Or did we miss something?!
Pros: Beautiful Chateau with very relaxed atmosphere and interesting hosts
Pros: What a lovely place to stay and what lovely hosts. We were made welcome immediately even though we arrived a bit early. The Chateau is beautiful and the grounds are relaxing to walk in. Our Hosts were both charming and interesting.
Pros: You can't compare the Château de Chantelauze to a hotel; it is an experience. Mrs and Mr. Chantelauze are a great host and the tour of their private collection of exquisite objects is a must as it is to take part on their breakfast served at the big table inside the castle.
Cons: It is just about having the right expectation. The town near by is charming but there is no much to see and do. The chateau doesn't have a pool but only a "bassin" as the French refer to a small pound that one can refresh oneself. It is all very charming!
Pros: Quirky and grand at the same time. Owners very friendly and helpful.
Pros: Wonderfully different. A historic chateau on the edge of a beautiful mountain village. (although no bars open in the village). Staff very friendly and helpful.

Pros: Friendly staff. Historical building. Fun in the pool. Local road biking excellent.
Pros: Bed very comfortable Setting stunning Pool excellent
Cons: Quite pricey for only B&B with only fairly simple breakfast
Pros: - the old castle athmospher - breakfast - views - staff
Cons: - no restaurant for a dinner
Pros: The castle was beautiful The room too. Breakfast was ok but we asked for an egg and they said they would give it to us but they didnt. My wife had a problem with her leg and he was going to give us a room up two floors with some terrible stairs so we asked for one lower and he took us to a maginifcent one in the main floor but said it was more expensive so we said no and he showed us one one floor up and we said it was ok and then he charged us much more than what we had agreed with you
Cons: What he charged us and that you cannot eat there you have to travel 20 minutes and back to get food
Pros: This castle is owned by General Lafayette's (French General who fought on the side of America during the Revolutionary War) family. Much bigger than I expected from the pictures, it's a bit off the beaten track but totally worth any trip! The castle entrance is at the end of a street in the hill town of Vollore Ville (population 600). Obear Lafayette who runs the B&B, greeted us from the large front door when we arrived in the parking area and he waved goodbye to us when we left. Our bedroom was located in the 15th Century tower and was very large and well decorated for the period. Our room included a sitting room just off the bedroom, that also enjoyed a view and a large soaking tub, and was attached to a little room next to it that housed the toilet (along with a sink). Just off the other side of the bedroom was another bathroom with a sink and shower. We climbed the stairs in the old tower (which was not a problem for us) to the 2nd floor where our bedroom had an awesome view of the landscape. There are also bedrooms on the main level where the castle boasts numerous sitting rooms that are large and beautifully decorated for the period, many paying tribute to General Lafayette. The dining room is equally large and beautiful with a table that seats 12. Breakfast was very good but all I can really remember is how eloquent the event was, and how I felt like a queen, sitting there alone with my husband at the large table, being served by Obear. We felt welcome and enjoyed the castle immensely, honored to experience a little of the history of General Lafayette, knowing the critical role he played in helping America win the American Revolutionary War. The whole experience was surreal.
Pros: Good place to stay to recharge the batteries. Very interesting history & host very helpful.
Pros: The towers and parts of the existing chateau date back to the 12th century. Such history! The room was lovely and very clean. My room had a small fridge which was nice. The staff/owner was very kind and accommodating. The best part of the place is the view of the valley and mountain range as well as splendid sunsets. All the notes and receipts are written on beautiful, fancy paper, it’s the small things that I enjoy most. The common rooms were setup like a large library and museum. The common areas were always well lit with classical music playing in the background. The living rooms/sitting areas all felt like stepping into such rich family history with all kinds of historical artifacts and family relics.
Cons: There is no food available on site, except for breakfast, and the nearest city is about 20 min drive away. There is one small, local restaurant near the castle. The backyard has so much potential and could be designed/landscaped better to drive traffic and customers to the hotel for the view alone. There are some lounge chairs and tables with umbrellas. The pool was not ready for use, it seemed that it was being cleaned.
Located in Le Brugeron, La Vie en Rose is on a lake, within a 15-minute drive of Parc Naturel Regional Livradois-Forez and Beal Pass. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Fantastic service, stunning apartment excellent food and great value for money.
Cons: It's a very remote place, so your captive to the restaurant.
Pros: Very friendly excellent evening meal and a great breakfast
Pros: This is our second stay enroute to Italy. I love this place, simple, clean, friendly and excellent home cooking. Madam in house and Monsieur in the kitchen. Great team, very helpful and accommodating. They have a new family suite across the road which our family used. STUNNING ! Breakfast was wonderful, fresh everything !! Thank you very much see you next time again ! merci beaucoup, à la prochaine.
Pros: We were able to check in very late due to delayed travel. The breakfast was lovely with many options of breads, fruits and cheeses.
Pros: Fine place to stay
Pros: Very friendly and helpful owners. Very good meals and wine at attractive prices. Quiet and calm in beautiful area, excellent for cycling!
Pros: The photos and descriptions show what appears to be a largish, upscale hotel in an urban area. In fact, it is a cute, pleasant, but very old hotel on a crossroads, reached by a tiny, twisty, extremely rural road In the mountains. The hotel is very popular with motorcycling groups who travel light and are therefore comfortable with staircases and small rooms. The rooms are spotless, with good air circulation, nice mattresses, and quite excellent bathrooms. A little surprisingly, there’s Wi-Fi in the rooms, and it works well. There are two outstanding features: one is that the owner of La Vie en Rose is a hard working, energetic little person who knocks herself out to help and please her clients. She runs things pretty much by herself, with just a skeleton staff, and she is a doll! The second thing is that the hotel’s dining room is locally famous—and with good reason. There is an actual chef in the kitchen, and boy, is he terrific! Dinner was delicious, and the breakfast was huge and beautiful, with flowers on the table, several types of fresh breads, a choice of cheeses, meats, fresh fruits, fine coffee, juices, and local jams and jellies. We truly enjoyed our stay.
Cons: The descriptions did not mention the fact that the hotel is not at all close to Thiers, but in a remote, mountainous region, reached by an extremely pretty but narrow, twisty road. This place is FAR off the beaten path. Actually, this is an advantage, because the situation is very nice, but its remoteness should be part of the description. Also, the rooms are pleasant but minuscule. My husband and I got the deluxe suite, two wee rooms, each with a good twin bed and tall window. We each had only two small bags, but it was difficult to find space to walk around them. Due to the age of the building, this fact cannot be changed, but it should be noted.
Pros: We particularly liked that the apartment was decorated and equipped to high specification, the beautiful, private double bathroom with separate toilet was good. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay at La Vie En Rose again.
Cons: We missed not being able to access the Wifi from our apartment - we had to go to the hotel restaurant to make and receive calls, send photos after our daily visits out. That was our only downside.

Pros: It has character, quiet location good for larger groups friendly and helpful owner, good parking. Nice breakfast.
Cons: Shared bathroom, was a bit tatty. The property is quite remote far from infrastructure, e.g. a restaurant. We struggled a bit with finding it. Went right past it on the first try. A more prominent sign with its name might help.
