Peaceful atmosphere, courteous staff, beautifully appointed room and ensuite, comfortable public rooms. Free parking in the square fronting the hotel. Central location in a town full of history and charm. Did not have its own resturant but there were plenty of reasonable eating places in the town. The TV in room did not appear to have English speaking channels. A mini bar would have been useful.
It's comfortable, spacious and very central to the town. It's the second time we've stayed there this year. It was primarily to visit the town, but had the hotel not been good, we'd have selected another on the second trip.
Very welcoming. They have renovated a bit since our last stay a few years ago Room thermostats not turned up before arrival
Very nice, large, spacy and quiet hotel. The executive double room is large and comfortable. Nice location in old city, central for many trips to other places of interest along the coast and inland. The adjacent restaurant is very good, superb food (but not cheap). Breakfast OK.
It was very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Some of the furniture in the corridors was broken and the displays looked tired, otherwise it was fine.
Building itself is very attractive and there is good parking in the square just by the hotel. English speaking reception staff if you need this. Not very good value for money - rooms were fairly ordinary, some shabby paintwork and bathroom tiling in the rooms - we stayed in 2 different ones plus were allocated a room which we asked to change because the window didn't close securely on the ground floor. There was nothing wrong with this hotel, and the location was great for what we needed, but I probably wouldn't stay there again.
The room was comfortable and the evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. I would have liked parking to be included in the room rate. To be fair the hotel staff when asked where the entrance to the hotel car park was located said I could park free in the square in front of the hotel.
Position Room was small and plain. Things worn. Needs redcoration. No power plug at the desk.
Excellent and comfortable room, pleasant and very helpful staff, very good buffet breakfast with the one reservation below Unusually the offer of bacon, sausage and scrambled egg on the buffet, likely for a largely British clientele. But unfortunately the British influence extended to the scrambled eggs, which were awful and worthy of an English hotel.
The rooms were excellent and the building is very special as is the location near the town's ramparts
The meal was excellent but the room was poor
A very French experience, lovely suite, traditionally decorated. Excellent food, wine and restaurant service No access to room till 3pm, but as we arrived early we were told that we could get in at 1pm, so waited around 45 mins, then told not ready, be another 30 mins, then told come back at three. We wasted a couple of hours doing this.
It is utterly charming, well situated in an interesting and historic part, and the staff and courtesy and design of the rooms are excellent. The rain!
Beautiful setting with lovely grounds making for a relaxing stay.
Centre of town, pleasant staff, good location to visit other locations in area Would have liked to have a final nightcap, about 11.45 in the evening, but advised "c'est ferme". The 4 couples who were in the party are mature, well mannered and we didn't think, that for residents, it was much to ask.
Fantastic firendly staff, excellent quality rooms and very careful attention to detail. We had a family room and it was ideal for us and our two children - very spacious and comfortable.
Central locality in small historic town. Welcoming staff. Quality food.
Family rooms available
It is very central, the rooms were nice, quiet, clean, and the courtyard cozy. The breakfast is probably not worth the 15 euro, but there was no hassle about declining it. It would be nice if the wifi extended to the rooms and not just the lobby.
Pleasant staff, good food and surroundings.
The rooms were tastefully decorated, the food was of an excellent quality and reasonably priced.
beautiful setting and lovely room not enough tea bags and coffee in the room
Had a family room which was large with separate bathroom and toilet. Bedroom and bathroom were very large. Bathroom had large selection of products/towels etc a really good hotel. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and the fruit salad was very fresh. Dinner menu very nice but a bit pricey but that maybe due to area.
Excellent family room, perfect for our needs 15 euros for breakfast seemed expensive
How comfortable the beds were an how clean the room was. It could have had a larger selection of food in the machine, like microwave meals. As the supermarket over the road shuts at 8pm and we got back late one night.
it was quiet, clean and comfortable. The shower was good. Difficult to find - found by chance. The first sign we saw said '1 minute on left' but it was over several roundabouts then eventually on our right.
the friendlyness of the staff
comfortable bed It would have been nice to arrive to a warm room especially as it was January and had pre booked., My daughter who was also on our booking had a 4 month old baby with her and was not happy to find the room unheated.
Good staff ,very clean, great location if you have a car. Outside town and no taxi available.
Covenience for visiting the area Beds very hard and uncomfortable
Welcome ,breakfast,parking,local measls, None
so easy to book in and central for bar/resturants and supermarket more foriegn tv ie in english if possible
Good Location - Restaurant nearby.
easy convienent to find friendly staf the room could have been warmer maybe an extra blanket would have helped
Our room was nice and clean and the heating system was excellent. Breakfast was good, with excellent service. The location is great, being only an hour and a quarter from Calais and half an hour from Le Touquet. Montreuil, and Hesdin, which is half an hour further inland, are both excellent for shopping and eating out. Lock-up parking was offered at €14 a night. We declined and parked by our room. On leaving, our bill included €28 for parking. They said parking by our room was also chargable, and a notice displayed outside stated that. Unfortunately, the writing was small, so we hadn't been able to read it. We'd booked a table for the Saturday night and were greeted cordially, and offered an aperitif on arrival. After our 2 Dubonets arrived we found out they cost €8 each - you can buy a litre for €8.25! We chose the cheapest menu (€40 each). After our starters, it took over an hour for our main courses to arrive. My fish and my partner's beef were both too tough to eat. Sad - we stayed and ate there before, really enjoyed it, and didn't feel overcharged.
The reason we coming back to this hotel is the fantastic resturant - makes it a great weekend treat.
cheeful plite staff
We didn't stay long because we were going further south and the weather was poor. The hotal restaurant was excellent.
Food excellent - menu terroir interesting and good value - excellent cheese table. Attractive courtyard layout - quiet rooms . Bathroom decor
The food The room we had on the first night was cramped and uncomfortable.
The room was okay but we did not eat at the hotel too expensive 14 euros to park overnight was expensive parked on road outside
No pretensions. Got what you paid for. Very relaxed.
Location and staff excellent. we dined in the restaurant and as always it was fantastic. I think the car parking charge at 14 euros is too high. We paid the firstnight but parked in the square adjacent the second, a more reasonable rate and we would have parked both nights.
location surly staff. Very poor food in restaurant - massively overpriced
The food was interesting but pretentious comparing it with the Hotel Montrachet - Pouligny where we stayed for 3 nights it is overpriced.
Food, food and food! The most fantastic, innovative, surprising and delicious dinners and superb, if simple, breakfasts. The staff were friendly and helpful (not always guaranteed in France!). The position at the foot of a fortified and charming town with walkable walls. The location facing a river and pretty countryside in a quiet, upmarket, village. It was expensive but considering the food (did I mention that?) we were happy to pay it.
The setting is lovely beside a river and below the medieval walls. The food was imaginative and very good and with some interesting surprises. The room had fun touches (e.g. lightbulbs with wings) and a nice bathroom. Would recommend going there for dinner, but staying elsewhere nearby. The drinks were very overpriced - 11 euros for a mediocre, small glass of wine, which was listed on the board as being 8 euros. The room was quite expensive for what it was - the bed took up most of the room and you didn't even get a bottle of water without paying for it. The gravel outside meant that anyone walking by was very noisy. Also, the hotel booking said that there was free Wifi throughout the hotel but there was none. When we asked about it, we were just told "You are in the country - what do you expect?" When we mentioned it to the owner the next morning, he just shrugged and didn't say anything. I would have expected better customer service from a hotel that is expensive and advertises itself as something special.
The staff were excellent, welcoming and gracious. And in the room the bed was generous, the linen lovely and the bath robes a treat. The food was superb and we will certainly return. In common with many French hotels, the lighting in the room could be improved.
Ideal situation in the centre of Montreuil Room should have been available from 11am, but the hotel was closed when we arrived at 16.00 until 17.30. We needed to get to our room after a whole day's travelling and couldn't.
Central to the town. Quiet location. Good choice of nearby restaurants. Not too expensive A bit "run down". Slightly "musty"
Basic but clean No facilties for coffee/tea making in room. Stayed on a Sunday evening and there was no restaurant available.
Central location and adequate parking available None
good atmosphere, simple food, good for families
Central location on main square, friendly staff, easy car parking, quiet at night. Convenient restaurant for breakfast and other meals. Tired furniture and decoration. Small TV. Cold room the first night before the central heating was turned on.
Breakfast was good Cental heating was not on room was cold had to ask tobe put on not very good
Location Run down, starting to look shabby.
Only location The decor is horrendous, no shower worked properly. It felt cold and had to request heat to be turned on. No place except bar to go apart from room. Would not rebook
A great setting, peaceful and quiet. Free wifi is only free if you have an account with specific mobile phone providers.
Very comfortable firm bed (for bad backs); plenty of clean towels + bathmat for double room; excellent value for money; ample breakfast & could request cooked dishes; staff friendly, pleasant & helpful; easy to find: blue sign at night; good system of night entry. Beautiful poplar trees at back, owls hooting at night, chickens and cows by day, very relaxing in Sept. Bathroom smelt a bit damp; lack of cnn or English tv channel, but not very important.
(What did you like best during your stay) driving down the road away from the place Hotel was by far the worst and the most expensive, The room had a bath and shower, but nowhere to hang up the shower head, and no shower curtain, Bathroom smelt? Damp, No lift, ok we will have a room down stairs no! We have cleaned all down stairs today, so you must use one up stairs...Hellooooo Disabled people find stair great fun to run up and down, then we get short shift as we dont want dinner or breakfast, Certainly will not use this hotel again
Very helpfull staff A little expensive for the state of the hotel
Staff were friendly food was reasonable location for access to eurotunnel was good Rooms need upgrading, advertised with wifi throughout hotel not so one large one small towel only in double room
the friendliness of the owners, combined with the excellent food and service overcomes the shortcomings of the rooms. Parking was easy.We would all stay there again. A real French two star hotel. there was no tea/coffee making facility in the rooms.
It is a cheapy hotel, therefore the rooms were basic but value for money. The food was certainly ok and one could have paid much more for the equal in a 'posher' hotel Two persons --- one only showergel each day---had to ask for one each--- three times!! Although clean the loo did have a slight hangover of pee! The lighting in the bathroom was one shaver light--- very poor/mean
Pleasant staff, nice food, easy parking, nice grounds Hotel needs updating, very old fashioned bathrooms, poor decorative order. dining room obviously done recently and pleasant
Friendly and attentive staff. No problems parking. Easy to find. Pleasant restaurant. Shabby room and public places E.G. pealing wallpaper, chipped furniture and marks on carpet. The hotel has clearly had no significant refurbishment since it was built around 1978. Thin walls -the loud snoring in the room next door disturbed my sleep. Traffic noise from main road if window opened.
The price I had to ring on my phone to get in. For a minute we did not think it was open. They were unanaware of our reservation. The food was appalling.
It is well positioned and rerasonably priced. This was more like an old fashioned B&B than an hotel. Access is through a narrow door at the side of the bar. Although adequate it was all a bit run down and poorly finished. However not overly expensive. Warning! The stairs (No lift) are lethal. Very steep and narrow and some of the risers in the second flight are extremely high.
Nothing I'm afraid. The room was awful. Dirty, dreadful broken furniture, cramped (considering it was a quadruple room), smelly and dirty toilet the size of a cupboard, bed linen was very crumpled, towels were shabby, bed too short (for a 5'11'' man!)......a real disappointment!
We only used it for an overnight stop on the way to Eurotunnel so unfortunately so didnt have time to do anything except sleep
Well located, nice bar, good breakfast, staff ok. Nice shower cabine in the room The room was tiny (no cupboard), and the bed too small for a tall person like me (1m92).
The location of the hotel is just off the main road, but its also next to the path for the towns rampart walks. The breakfast we thought was a good continental offering. As well as the usual cereals, bread, croissants, coffee etc, there was fruit salad, cheese and ham. The double bed we didn't find comfortable at all, the decor was a bit tired and two wall hooks substituted for a wardrobe. The toilet in the room shall we say was not very private. However the worst point for us was the host played a piano until 01:00 am in the lounge which was below our room. We had a long journey ahead the following day. He should have had more consideration for his guests.
Excellent breakfast and dinner, friendly host, ideal situation in centre of town with rampart walk close by
