Pros: Location was great. The views were stunning. Shirley was extremely helpful and made a gorgeous breakfast with locally sourced ingredients. She was friendly and welcoming but also left us to enjoy our own company. The music over breakfast was a lovely touch. Meant to ask who was singing! The room was amazing with a fabulous private terrace. The plunge bath was brilliant and the toiletries were really luxurious. Slept really well in a lovely comfortable bed. Will definitely book again and will recommend to friends and family.
Cons: Nothing we didn't like.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Shirley gave us a warm welcome although we arrived quite late. Our room was spacious and clean, and we appreciated the foresight and attention to detail which showed in the furnishings and fittings - not only in the room, but in the whole house. We spent a relaxing evening on our private terrace. The garden around the house is a joy. Breakfast was substantial and freshly cooked. We were sorry not to be able to stay for the cookery course the next morning! What is there not to like about this place?

10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful stay in a wonderful environment. I it on the side of the village, with a great view into the nature. Quality of the equipment excellent. Room was sparkling clean, with a very comfortable bed. But best were the very caring helpful host family. When we needed something, they made it possible. A bonus, if you like to try to hit some golf balls yourself, it is right beside the house.
Cons: Generally nothing negative to say. The only condition to be considered is a car is needed to enjoy this place. I haven't seen public transport.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Rachel and her staff have created a serene and idyllic retreat. Even being regulars at such great hotels such as The Mandarin Oriental chain and the Mayfair in London, the total experience of the Chilterns - location, attention to detail, cleanliness, simple yet effective facilities, guest empathy - easily holds it's own. As a de-stress and re-centering experience in this info-overloaded, way-too-accessible world, don't bother yourself with overcrowded foreign beaches, cramped flights, over-glorified facilities etc. You've got the Chilterns View extolling the best of British, gorgeous in any weather!
Cons: Couldn't stay long enough!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here for the Easter bank holiday and what a way to spend it! Hot tub, hammock, bbq and beautiful views across the Oxfordshire countryside. The lodges themselves were so cosy, there were some lovely touches inside such as bath robes, slippers, candles and a log fire. Staff were helpful and friendly when you needed them, but they also left you completely alone which was so nice and made you feel like you could really relax. Highly highly recommend.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This was our third visit of the year, so that probably tells you that we're big fans! These cabins are practically perfect. The peace and tranquility are amazing, the location is like heaven and the hot tub is brilliant. Will definitely be returning again next year.
Cons: Having to leave at the end of the visit.
10.0 Excellent

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staying at the Chilterns' View is an unforgettable experience. We loved the peace and tranquility and spent our time relaxing in the hot tub and cooking on the BBQ. There is nowhere we would rather spend a romantic relaxing break.
Cons: A few more kitchen implements would be useful for those who like to self-cater rather than go for meals out.

7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast fine, nice location.
Cons: Arrival instruction were to phone for help on arrival, but Mobile phone reception was very poor, so potentially awkward. Although I liked the property and location, at £105 per night I think it is a little overpriced.

Cons: Hard to find. Could be better sign posted off the road or better more detailed directions given to guests

Breakfast was outstanding!! We will definitely stay here again x Thanks top rate team !
Cons: ??? Struggling to think what we didn’t like ... having to leave
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast food quality was excellent, however, on the first day we were asked "would you like cereals and fruit OR full English?" leading us to believe it was one or the other. Only the next day did we find out we could have had some of everything. Staff should really be trained better. Bathroom was good and room was very clean. In hot night, as was our case, one must open windows and therefore, be subject to a lot of noise as people leave pub and restaurant. Take ear plugs!
Cons: One evening they took 35 minutes to take our order!
6.3 Good
Pros: The breakfast was excellent.Home made bread. Staff really lovely and helpful.
Cons: THe room was very dusty and the shower needed a good clean with mould remover. The entrance to all the rooms have very steep stairs which were very dirty and needed a good clean and paint.

Overview Reviews

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Came to celebrate daughter's 30th birthday. Sean was so helpful and accommodating finding us somewhere we could arrange a birthday surprise and parcel opening before our evening meal. Candles lit round the presesnts on the table, it was lovely.
6.3 Good
Pros: The food was amazing and the main historic hotel atmosphere was lovely.
Cons: For £110 a night, a treat for us, I was expecting a good quality room. We were given a room that had a foul smell. We soon realised that this was from the shower which was in the corner of the room as opposed to in a bathroom so we couldn’t even close a door. A small heater had been put in the room to clearly try and help with this awful damp smell along with the drafty window. We soon asked the change rooms and with a little grumbling this was done. The room we were moved to was an improvement but I still do not think it was worth £110 for the night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Relaxing
Cons: Shelves for clothes
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast
5.5 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was OK, as was the waiter.
Cons: Worn, dirty carpets and lack of suitable lighting in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: e loved everything about the hotel and our stay with you was very enjoyable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The decor was in keeping with the period of the building and lovely and clean with comfortable room. The staff (and locals) were open and friendly and very helpful and engaging. The surrounding area has lovely walking routes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A comfortable inn with remarkable half timbering inside and outside. The room was simply an up to date hotel room but good and large. The staff were pleasant and helpful, in particular finding a lost item of jewellery -- a real good team!
6.3 Good
Pros: Good location
Cons: Room was very dated and in need of refurbishment!!! The fire door wasn’t secure so anyone could have walked up and opened it from the outside!!!! we were booked into one room but was above the bar, the reception was great and moved us to another room, we were booked into the restaurant but they had booked pretty much the entire hotel in at the exact same time so had to wait an hour for our food, mine was good but my partner had the burger and it looked like it was ordered from the kids menu she was extremely disappointed as was bland and tasteless, compared to all the other food that looked amazing the burger was like it was rushed and thrown at the plate with some old chips. We went for the breakfast which was busy we were sat down and had the continental buffet which was slim pickings only at the very end after seeing lots of cooked breakfast going out, told “oh we’re really sorry we forgot to give you a menu and a cooked breakfast was included” which was infuriating, the check in staff was great and gave us a discount on our stay. The place was just very disorganised.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location in an idyllic village. Lovely bar, restaurant and food. Couldn't fault it.
Cons: My room was a bit tired. Everything worked fine, but it couldn't be described as luxurious. It was fine on this trip as I was on my own, but wouldn't want to stay in this room as a 'treat'. Bed was a standard size double, which I find a bit small for more that 1 person - just my opinion.

Cons: Mind the beams in the restaurant if you are over 6’. Ouch
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very enjoyable evening meal and great breakfast. Very friendly, and helpful staff Noisy location was the only downside. With the windows closed - no problem, but during hot weather with the windows open, the road noise could be an issue.
6.8 Good
Pros: Dinner was very good. bedoom spacious and lounge area was comfortable. Breakfast was generous.
Cons: Several lights not working in room. Winter weight duvet and no alternative which was uncomfortable during the hottest week of the year. No air con or fan.. Toiletries were appreciated but with all the publicity around single use plastic would prefer to see refillable containers.

Cons: Our room experienced loud traffic noise and people’s voices outside talking quite late.
7.0 Good

5.8 Okay
Pros: Staff was friendly. Breakfast was good.
Cons: Bed was very uncomfortable and woke up each morning with a very sore back and shoulders. Shower was poor with very little water pressure and it was nearly impossible to correctly adjust the temperature. Exhaust fan only worked part of the time. Only enough towels for one person even though they knew there were two booked for the room. Floor needed to be vacuumed as there was glitter throughout the carpet.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely old original building. Liked the pictures on the wall.
Cons: Lack of toilet brush
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast not taken. The room was comfortable and very quiet and there was plenty of free parking.
Cons: The shower was very disappointing. Almost impossible to adjust and a very weak pressure. The towels were old and rough and need to be replaced. Not up to standard
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Free breakfast and parking.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Stayed at night before the 100k race: Race to the Stones.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Good location just off M40
Cons: Large wedding meant staff could not cope. Service was very poor. Bathroom so small you could hardly turn. Food average. Warm wine.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds were very comfortable and the courtyard side of the hotel views nice and quiet too so good night’s sleep
Cons: The shower wasn’t great. The food could have been better, a better selection and cheaper.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent for our trip on this occasion. The room itself was a nice size and comfortable. The facilities were modern and useful and we had an enjoyable stay.
Cons: Waiting for our evening meal. The menu appeared interesting and not too complex. However, we had to wait about an hour before the meal arrived which was really unnacceptable. Poor communication from the Restaurant Staff. It turned out that those having dinner in the restaurant were having to wait for the Room Service items which appeared to take priority (the Hotel denied this although it was self-evidently the case as we saw many meals pass us later in the Foyer !) Lack of Sweet Choice was also another issue - again no proper communication with the Customers. After complaining we were offered drinks of our choice to make up for the lack of service - hardly the point ! The Duty Manager listened sympathetically to our case and eventually "waived" the meal/drink costs from the bill. Good, but again, not really the point. (PS. You might "wonder" why this Hotel Kitchen has only a 4 Hygeine Rating (pinned to the side window of the front entrance and NOT in a prominent, proud position ? !!)
5.5 Okay
Cons: If you are having a (loud) party, it is not smart to give out the rooms adjacent to the party venue!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a good hotel to stop at if you have a dog. They have several dog-friendly rooms available and dogs are allowed in the bar area for meals. The room is small but OK. Free Wi-Fi. A Polar EV charger is available outside the hotel. Plenty of free parking. Breakfast the usual buffet available in many UK hotels.
Cons: Although the shower is good, I didn't like the sliding door arrangement. Just personal taste.

Cons: Noisy as bedroom on the main street
4.5 Okay
Pros: The room was quite large and included a bath. Near to the town centre
Cons: The room was overlooking the busy main road and very noisy and the bathroom was needs a a bit of TLC. The room was situated above the hotel up a steep flight of stairs and the handrail was loose.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Our room was quiet, as requested. It was freshly decorated, clean and spacious.
Cons: It was not possible to check-in before 5PM. The pub did not open till then. We were tired from our day walking the Thames Path, and it was raining. The tariff did not include breakfast.

Cons: Stronger WiFi signal in room

Pros: We really appreciated the warm welcome and finding that our bags which had arrived before us had been delivered right up to our studio room. We enjoyed the lovely spacious bedroom and bathroom and the huge bath. All very clean with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. A quiet peaceful oasis at the top of the building and a wonderful place to relax after a hard day of walking on the Thames Trail. It was great to be able to wander across the road to the pub next door for our dinner
Cons: We were somewhat confused about accessing the wifi which didn’t seem to be available.
7.5 Good
Pros: Room was nicely decorated nice fluffy towels and good shower great view from room.
Cons: It was expensive for a room over a pub and no breakfast
5.8 Okay
Pros: The bath and location
Cons: Staff rude not very welcoming Single beds where very comfortable but so slim nearly fell out several times during the night. You could hear everything in the room next door so close together.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was clean and comfortable (although my wife found the mattress less than perfect). The en-suite bath was in need of some cosmetic work but everything worked well. The landlords are very nice people and the pub, which appears to be frequented by locals was nice. Located on the edge of town but a quick walk to shops and some good restaurants. Off-site parking is close and was nearly free on the weekend.
Cons: There was a loud disco across the street which was blasting 1970’s music until about midnight. If you enjoy a rowdy crowd singing along with Donna Summer, you’ll be okay. On the positive side, it just stopped at midnight.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice location. Plenty of character. Nice room and bathroom. Quiet.
Cons: Pricey and no breakfast included, although a full English could be pre-ordered at weekends (had we but known). Attic room was very warm.
3.8 Mediocre

4.5 Okay
Pros: The bedroom was very poor, thread bare carpet , damp patches on the walls , flaking paint on the windows etc . Dreadful. Needs to close and be refurbished . Bedroom corridor disgusting
Cons: The whole hotel is in very poor condition . The breakfast pastry was inedible.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Beautiful location.
Cons: The hotel is undergoing refurbishment over the next 12 months and it's well needed. The room I stayed in (23) was old and tired. Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, not thoroughly clean. Towels were good and clean though and fresh every day. Well made bed, although not the most comfortable.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location was fabulous. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a room at the front with a nice view over the river.
Cons: The breakfast was basic - no croissants, and no fresh fruit. The staff were mostly nice, but the breakfast waiter was clearly bored, and our dirty cereal bowls were not cleared away even after our hot food was served. The whole place is very shabby, although we do understand it is due for renovation soon.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The location is nothing but spectacular and the green between the hotel and the river is just gorgeous.
Cons: Cleanliness is not the best for starters. The hotel is really old and damp with very warn out decoration and carpets. Floors are uneven, rooms aren't spacious and sometimes the smell of damp is rather nasty. During hot weather season it is unbearable to sleep in the bedrooms without having a fan literally on top of you. The hotel was far from fully booked and still the service at the restaurant was really slow and things were missing. I've only eaten at the hotel twice and the first night, at 7 pm they had run out of green beans and the next day I heard a lady asking for white rice and getting a negative reply.
8.3 Excellent

Cons: Hotel communal areas a bit dated. Water pressure poor

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location on the river bank, very peaceful. Extra comfortable beds and pillows. First class bathroom in the Deluxe room. Every member of staff we had dealings with was extremely polite and helpful. The breakfast was very good. Everything we wanted was available, stayed mid week.
Cons: Unfortunately all the other reviews are correct and the main building is in need of refurbishment. There is no working swimming pool - it was drained years ago. I took advice of previous reviewers and had our evening meal in the nearby Six Bells a thatched pub, so cannot review lunch or dinner.
