10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome, friendliness and helpfulness of the hosts, the food was top notch and very well presented. If there was anything you needed to know about the area Janet has a wealth of knowledge. It’s a beautiful guest house, spotlessly clean, and the photographs don’t do it justice. It really didn’t disappoint in any way shape or form. The guest house is very central to all amenities; the beach is only a few minutes walk as is the fun fair so very good for families too! There is also a lovely park for taking walks and also a boating lake. Very good for all and the children would love the little steam train ride that travels around the lake area. There are many restaurants within the vicinity so if you like Indian, Italian, Mediterranean or good old fish and chips there is something there to suit all tastes. The metro station is only a few minutes walk into the town area too. We took the metro to Newcastle for the day on a ‘day saver’ ticket that can be used as many times as you’d like in the day and the cost was only just a little over £5 per ticket per adult. Well worth it! It was our first visit to South Shields and we will certainly be returning.
Cons: There really wasn’t anything we didn’t like. We had a very enjoyable 3 night stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owners, great location, brilliant price , a very comfortable room and a delicious breakfast .

The room was beautiful, it has everything we needed and more. We hadn't booked breakfast but decided to try it and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious. We will 100% be back, South shields has won our hearts and the experience was definitely added to by Janet and Peter's excellent guest house.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly, accommodation was great everything you could need while staying away from home
Cons: Nothing, no faults or problems
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was more expensive than previous times I've booked, but I suppose that's last-minute living for you. The room was very comfy and beautifully presented. We had an access room which caused a few waterlogging issues with the 'wet room style' arrangement, so I felt bad for the cleaners having to mop that up! Staff were very helpful and gave us lots of information about where to eat and drink. Location is great, being a 10 minute walk to Newcastle city centre and a 5 minute walk to the Quayside, where there are several great pubs and good eating places.
Cons: The poor breakfast staff were run a bit ragged. Admittedly we went down for breakfast during the 'busy' period, between 8.30 and 9.30, but several of the items had run out and we had to wait 10+ minutes to get a full breakfast, which we ate in stages, as the food arrived :-). The sausages are a bit gross. I think you should source a good local butcher and invest in some decent Northumberland sausages. Yoghurt is far too watery. Other than that, pretty okay.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. We were travelling with two dogs, our room got changed to a bigger room for the dogs to have more space. The staff were really friendly and very helpful. Location is fantastic, just off Grey Street in the city centre. Amazing value for money! Just perfect!!
Cons: There's nothing we didn't like!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very central location, walkable to shops and 10 minute stroll down to the quayside. Staff friendly and helpful (even loaned brollies as it was raining). Pubs and bars all around but didn't notice too much noise from these in the room itself. Didn't do breakfast (continental) as went to Blakes (on corner Grey St 2 mins away) for full Monty. Hotel will sort taxis if you're going further afield (airport / races) Bar and downstairs areas very pleasant
Cons: Room a little smaller than I imagined but still reasonable size. Kept bumping into telly which was on the wall across from end of the bed! no real issues though and these did not detract and would stay here again

Pros: Excellent location, reasonably priced and fantastic decor.
Cons: The rooms were quite small and there wasn't a lot of storage space. Glasses and biscuits in the room would've been nice.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Bed was comfy
Cons: Paid extra for a premium room, not sure it was one!
7.5 Good
Pros: Great position
Cons: The room wasn’t clean as usual. Asked to change room but have been told they couldn’t do it, besides the room wasn’t set up for two days consecutively even if I told the reception.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful, excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Rooms were very quiet although we were central with plenty going on outside the hotel.
Cons: We could not find fault with anything within the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is 5 minutes from central station and ideal for access to most things in town. It was clean, modern, and inviting. The staff were wonderfully professional and helpful, and we were prewarned about an issue with a room (resulting in a room change) and given complimentary drinks to make up for this. The rooms were lovely and spacious and despite it being full for the weekend for the races and an abundance of stag/hen parties, we did not hear a peep from our rooms. Unbelievable value for money, I look forward to staying here again and have already recommended many people to stay here.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect, right in the city centre and close to the train station. The breakfast had a great selection and fast turn-over. Additional bonus was the bed, luxurious sheets and super comfortable mattress.
Matfen Hall Hotel, Golf And Spa - Newcastle upon Tyne - Building

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Attentive staff. Good breakfasts and evening meals.
Cons: Beds on the soft side. No air conditioning, which is understandable given the age of the house. Fans were provided which helped but room windows weren’t able to be opened.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This was excellent, choice of food, position of room, staff most helpful.
Cons: Nothing at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything especially the food
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place to stay, the staff are so friendly they can't do enough for you. Food and rooms fabulous. Every thing about the place is 1st class.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great, staff very helpful definitely be returning
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location and views were excellent. Staff were well dressed but are over efficient this attitude tends to come over as disinterested and unapproachable.
Cons: The room was too hot even when the thermostat was turned right down and the windows open as wide as they would go. Had to use the provided fan all night the noise and the heat keeping us both from sleeping properly. The food served in the bar was adequate but really the french fries served with steak should not be skinny ones but proper thick ones. Also there seems to be only two disabled parking spaces in the courtyard and although the access and entrance facilities were very good it is a long way from the courtyard to walk to reception. Furthermore adding drinks to the bill that were not ordered is not acceptable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was outstanding and the staff were excellent nothing too much trouble and polite and friendly
Cons: The meals were tasty and reasonable price but sometimes during certain meals they used frozen foods especially the chips
7.5 Good
Pros: - food was very good. Dinner in the formal dining room was faultless (apart from running out of wine - see above)
Cons: - bedroom was very hot and stuffy however they did have a fan and an dehumidifier in the room so at least they tried - no way to turn off heated towel rail in the bathroom which was BOILING! - had to remember to bring your check in slip with your signature on to charge anything to the room, which is a bit inconvenient and old fashioned. Most luxury hotels (which this calls itself) have moved on - formal dining room was formal(!), but also staid, stuffy and old fashioned. Again, others have moved on. - they had run out of every desert wine at dinner and couldn't offer any alternative, which was a bit odd - no plug points near the bed - radio alarm on other side of room from the bed! - staff were pleasant and professional, but it all felt a little staid and overly formal in 2019
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, clean, amazing staff, pristine conditions, style, stunning views, amazing golf course, everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The fine dining was excellent and the staff were absolutely spot on.

7.5 Good
Pros: Shower and bathroom area and beds were comfortable

7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast service/availability on the Saturday was excellent.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Pros: Lovely place with fantastic potential! The rooms are really nice.
Cons: The property is a little far out if you’re wanting city centre but it is close to the quayside. The reception staff when checking in weren’t the most friendly or welcoming. Pros: The hotel was lovely and you had lots of space in the family rooms. Excellent facilities and the staff were fantastic. THey were very friendly and were happy to help with anything. Beds were comfy and we had a lovely nights sleep.
Cons: The only issue we had with this hotel was in the bathroom. The glass shower screen was full.of black mould on the trim. It doesn't take two minutes to clean these. Even once a month. Also the showers in the morning were either scolding hit or freezing cold and would change in seconds.

Pros: The location is fantastic and very different to most coastal towns I’ve visited. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The building itself has a fantastic history and has great character.
Cons: Some elements of the rooms just needed a final touch as refurbishing has been underway. Nothing to detract from our stay though.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and a hotel with fantastic character.
Cons: Of the 3 nights we stayed we paid £13 per head for breakfasts for 2 of the mornings. For the 3 of us this totalled just short of £100. One of our party was a child, who we were told there was no reduction for. The breakfast, in terms of the quality & quantity of food wasn’t worth the additional cost.

Pros: We have stayed here a few times before as we love the hotel and the place but never in a room with a sea view. It was definitely worth the extra money. The room was spacious and the bathroom had a separate shower and bath. We could not fault anything during our stay. Thank you Grand Hotel.

Hampton by Hilton Newcastle - Newcastle upon Tyne - Building

8.9 Excellent (5,822 reviews)
Overview Reviews
One of England’s great cities is Newcastle-upon-Tyne. This city has lots of great things to do and is full of history and personality – there are few places in England that are as welcoming as Newcastle. The Geordies (slang for the locals who live Tyneside) will make the trip memorable but one of the most important things is booking at room at a hotel that takes care of travelers. Besides the experience, one of the keys is having great amenities, and this is where good hotels are separated from great hotels. In the case of Hampton by Hilton Newcastle, the combination of great amenities and excellent service create a truly memorable experience. Hampton by Hilton Newcastle is one of the great places to stay in Newcastle-upon-Tyne as it gets travelers right in the middle of the city. There are many things to do that are within walking distance but perhaps the hotel itself provides the greatest array of options. For business travelers, there are great amenities like the business center and the complimentary WiFi. It’s easy to stay on top of what’s going on. For leisure travelers, Newcastle is a walking city, so after a day spent strolling around the city, it is quite relaxing to rest on a premium mattress after enjoying a nice, relaxing soak in the bathtub. With breakfast included along with a fitness center, the options at this great hotel just never end. Staying at the Hampton by Hilton Newcastle is a wise choice when heading to England’s Northeast.
