convenient and friendly cooperative staff
Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. "Off the beaten track" but not far from town
Very pleasant setting and comfortable and clean accom. A good breakfast
The food was excellent, you have a very good chef who makes good use of local ingredients I always have trouble with being too hot at night with a duvet.
Nice clean room and staff excellent.Lovely pool.Good selection in bar. Buses irregular pm to Cambridge.Taxi option expensive.
food bed single malt
Location, freindly staff, Room was too small, bathroom not big enough, having booked 4 rooms 2 couples outside in modern blocks and the other couple and us inside in 2 small rooms not ideal. room price for bed only for 4 couples we feel was exspensive. looking at the reviews if we had paid £30£-40 less per room like a lot of them we would have been a happier group and would all have stayed for breakfast.
Very friendly staff. Hope they are paid a decent wage!
The staff are curteous. The hotel atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. The standard twin room that I got was, in my opinion, slightly below in standard for the price.
We stayed while there was a wedding on and unfortunately we couldn't enjoy a relaxing drink in the gardens as we felt that we were in the way and also there was not enough seating outside, so had to take our drinks back to the room. We had booked to eat in the restaurant in the evening but unfortunately there was a gas failure,we felt we were not dealt with in a very professional way.
Rooms were very clean and comfortable, location was ideal
Having to pay extra for breakfast and not a very good one!
Well situated near the heart of Cambridge. Old beautifull building. The staff was helpfull. Clean and roomy bathroom. The room was wide enought, but there was no ventilation on. So it was hot during the night and the air was "thick", even if we had window open all the night. And because of this, the trafic noice disturbed.
The hotel is within easy access of the centre of Cambridge and has good car parking facilities The room was very small and the floor shuddered - we wondered whether we were over the boiler?
the charm of the building and the staff, who were all so helpful It might have been helpful to be shown to our rooms for the first time rather than being given dirtections, an offer of help for the luggage might have been helpful
Friendliness/helpfulness of staff. Central location. Good breakfast. We thought the room was maybe a bit too cosy. Decor in general a bit tired and could do with some updating (wallpaper loose in dining room, cistern in bathroom a bit of a pain to get to work) - but do not loose the old world charm the hotel has.
proximity to our meeting pillows and quilt not comfortable (too hard) noisy plumbing (poor sound isolation in general)
Staff were excellent, location was fantastic, and plenty of secure parking.
Very high standard of food in the restaurant in the evening for dinner. Also excellent reasonably priced wine
very comfy room
Good location, friendly staff, and clean. The room decor, doors, bathrooms, lighting, furniture, twin beds (with no option to push them together), no air conditioning (an oscillating fan was located in the closet), two faucet sink with poor functioning faucets, linoleum bathroom floor, and rippled carpet all made the hotel room seem like it was from the 1950s, Also, the channel changing function on the television fluctuated wildly (once I selected a channel, it would work until I changed the channel... at which point the screen would go dark and sound would stop). I would have to shut off the power and restart the television, scroll through the programs, and make a selection, Then when I wanted to change the channel, I would have to repeat the restart process. On my departure day, the wall outlets lost power.
Cambridge is an expensive location by any standards. The hotel in question was generally excellent the only cause for complaint, apart from price, was that breakfast was not included.Bar service could be a bit slow but staff were very friendly. Location was excellent in fact hard to beat in this location and it was worth paying extra for the river view. Lunch in the riverside restaurant was dissapointing but again if you want to relax with a glass of wine and watch the river go by the food will not be your principle concern. As stated above the fact that breakfast was not included for such an amount of money is a bit of a joke.
It was a great central location. A comforatable hotel with leisure facilities. The staff on reception were a bit hit and miss with experience and reception was not always manned.
The location of the hotel was perfect and the comfort and amenities in the room were excellent. I would also rate the buffet breakfast very highly. This is a small point - the quality of the room service meal could have been a little better and the hotel is quite expensive. However, overall the stay was excellent and I really liked this hotel. For a lovely weekend stay in a great location by the river I would definitely recommend it.
Very loud disco to midnight, we were not warned beforehand, so no chance of sleep after long journey. Not acceptable that we were not warned or offered alternative accommadation
The location is excellent. Very close to the city but away from the bustling crowd. The gardens looking out to the river is perfect for a summer wedding. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern with generous supply of toiletries. The internet service is slow in the rooms and rather expensive.
Hotel was fine but price was not. Friend booked the same room for £79 via Secret Room.com, you charged us £199 per night so we are very, very unhappy about that. The price.
Location, leisure facilities & overall ambience
All user friendly, pleasant and helpful staff. Car Park charge
Efficient friendly staff, clean comfortable room with a river view. Very good breakfast. Only negative is paying a £17.50 parking cost which to be fair is made clear on the website, but a bit excessive I feel.
Nice location; comfortable room with great view of river Hotel styling and feel are dated and plain; expensive internet
The guy who runs The Carolina is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable with all the facilities you would expect and the breakfasts are substantial and beautifully cooked, Highly recommended!
The best thing was the coutesy and kindness of the owner.
Clean, friendly staff, good location
A very good value for our money. The owner was kind and informative. When we requested 2 beds in each room rather than Queen/King (we were 4 friends travelling together) he happily rearranged the furniture for us.
Very freindly owner. Service was very good Nothing
The Amabile family is quite... amiable, the English breakfast is delicious, the room is big, quiet and clean (same for the bathroom) It requires a bit of walking to get to the B&B from the station (20-25 mins, and I have a fast pace) and from the center (35 mins). Perfect, if you like jogging... a little less, if you plan on relying on buses (the stop is in front of the B&B, but on Sundays and holidays they pass once every hour).
nice hotel helpful staff
The room was quite nice and the manager was nice. The smell from the kitchen from cooking oil.
Fresh decor, very spacious bathroom, excellent breakfast, off- street parking
Easy to get to. For no reason at all, I was given a room with a disabled bathroom.
There was an uissue over our booking request for disabled friendly room, the person on duty was excellent and helped us to sort things fantastic staff customer servvices Orinal booking request was for twin disabled room this was not reserved even though I had requested both by phone and email when booking
Convenience , value for money , reasonably good condition of room , location next to services Being allocated a disabled persons room rather strange and bathroom took some getting used to over 3 nights. The corridors could do with a refit.I would like the ability to be able to plug a DVD player into the TV screen I note this was blocked off
I was on short business trip. I would not recommend it to a friend, I would to a professional collegue Budget hotel,
Place was ok. hdtv, Wi-Fi Availability, Bed was comfortable. Overall only superficial shortcomings, and "sort-off" value for money.Room was ok. Would have appreciated a bath to compliment the shower, place had a marked odour that was nevertheless not too unpleasant, many chanells did not work, Wi-Fi was advertised but only useful if you are with bt or Orange, which is useless if you are a visitor from abroad. Bed linen was never fitted properly. Overall only superficial shortcomings, and "sort- off" value for money, but I would look somewhere else next time. Very quite considering it was right next to A14 and the big service centre
Receptionists very helpful. Nice to have tea/coffee making facility in room with biscuits!. Do not be conned into buying breakfast voucher you can choose what you want at the self-service which may be less than the voucher.
Good value No issues
Position was good and quieter than some other areas. Having a child who did not have the full number of items for breakfast made the breakfast voucher expensive as we could have paid separately and got it cheaper for the same food.
Nice big shower. Handy to A1 , Cambridge, and motorway services. No toiletries!!!! And no bathmat.
Convenient situation, friendly, efficient staff & excellent shower!
The comfort of the bed, and the breakfast The view of the aircon units from the bedroom window, the fact that the room was chilled on entry on a cold and wet day - and heating took ages to work, the delay in being served tea in a chilly library , the failure to return my call to reserve a table in the bistro which meant we had to go out into the rain to find another restaurant
Service was excellent. Reception staff very accomodating. Restaurant first rate. The room was simple but beautifully presented. There were no glitches, flaws or loose fitting (rare in my limited experience of hotels). It could always be cheaper!
Well located, near to city centre and train station. Nice room, good service. Difficulty in accessing the internet service from the room
Room was fantastic loved the bathroom facilities, drinks range very good, loved the cigar facilities, decor atmosphere very sexy and romantic. The garden area could have been better and the room was too hot for me .
Central location, good food and special Reception seemed unaware of active hotels agreed rates for b&b
It is very difficult to find a clean and decent hotel room in Cambridge that is also quiet and serves good food. Hotel du Vin is the only one that is clean, quiet and has a decent restaurant.
Excellent breakfast - but had to pay on top of a high room rate. Exceptionally poor value for money. Plus the back of the hotel looks onto a 7 storey research labs.
central location, well appointed room, reasonable restaurant poor service in restaurant which was very busy on a Friday night and understaffed
The helpfulness of the staff at Reception was very high. I have an accident with my glasses and needed selotape and a pair of scissors. This was produced very quickly. Directions to a local restaurant was also quickly provided together with a large scale map. Quality of the breakfast can be better.
Ideal location in the center, excellent breakfast, hotel has been fully updated, Internet access is now included/free, the staff was very friendly. I have stayed a handful of times over the past 3-4 years and feel it has been improving. Definitely my first choice when traveling to Cambridge
Lovely room , the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. Valet parking was excellent. Great location next to shops and restaraunts Nothing of note
Very friendly staff Carpets require cleaning in the room. General decor needs refreshing, looks tired and slightly grubby.
Proximity to the event I was going to. Staff not great or particularily welcoming.
Staff were pleasant and helpful Room spacious and facilities good Nice touch to have the magazines to read and the luxuries in the bathroom The lighting in the room was poor - one light inbetween the beds was totally inadequate if you wanted to read in bed - room too dark - an additional standard lamp would have been better. The website indicated that the hotel was near to the Aracde Car Park, giving the impression it was easy to park - in fact it was not. When we arrived the car park was full and we had to spend an age trying to find parking facilities and then walk with our luggage to the hotel. The price also for parking was ridiculous - our main objective during our stay was to drive away from Cambridge each day to stay out of the city as long as we could knowning that when we did return the cost of parking would be far too high. Not something we had bargained for.
very nice staff, extremely good value for money
Pleasant, helpful staff Slowish service in the restaurant
I was held up for three hours in Customs at Heathrow and advised staff that I would not make the first night of a four night stay. They were not helpful in assisting me in finding another Hilton. I specifically was told by the clerk on check out that I would not be charged for the missed night, but discovered that indeed I have been charged and I am writing sepaerately for a refund. Staff in the bar treated me like a vagrant beaucse my room was not ready and I only had casual clothes. It was only when I put my expensive suit on that I received decent service.
The staff were all extremely pleasant and friendly. The room was very large and comfortable and the breakfast was yummy! It is the best possible location for a theatre break as Cambridge Arts and the Corn Exchange are both a very short walk away.
So pleasant and enjoyable!
The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. The common room was friendly, the food amazing, the rooms where clean and comfortable, towels changed daily, and beds turned down daily. The greatest proof of the friendly staff came from a couple who where going to the same wedding as us. Their plane was delayed, and so they got in in the middle of the night. Instead of making this a negative thing, they owner/manager was concerned that they shouldnt have to get up early for breakfast (served til 9 on the weekends) and asked them if they wanted some sandwiches made for them to pick up when they woke up. This customer service seemed to run lik the lifeblood of this B&B. Great value and great service. The only thing that would have made the stay better, would have been if the bed was 10 cm broader. But I'm a big guy, so I cant fault them for that.
It is rather close to the centre of Cambridge (20 minutes by walk), the bus traffic is regular (use day or week rides tickets). The breakfest is really good with variety of dishes. There is no free Wi-Fi in the room, however, the price for 7 days voucher is acceptable.
Comfortable hotel. Nice breakfast. Staff are quite helpful once you push for information. It's a bit of a hike to the city, but there's a bus-stop directly outside and buses are frequent.
Its location and the view from my window. Also a good size room for a single. Perhaps room service a little later.
This hotel is like staying at a favourite auntie's house - it is homely and traditional. The rooms are comfortable and warm and the bathroom spotless and with fluffy towels. Continental breakfast and parking included in price which is good. It is very close to the town and university. The staff are friendly and helpful. Would have preferred a duvet rather than blankets.
Nice food, large room. No smoking, (understandable) No mobile phones, No laptops, in public places, No internet unless you have a pc from the nineties with a 52k modem for dial up!!! Not really suitable for the younger proffesional, great for the oldes.
Efficient, helpful staff
central the reception staff
Very well located. Friendly staff Room was unreassonably hot.
Convenience for city.
Very conveniently placed for the city Reception staff weren't over friendly and a replacement hair dryer that was requested never arrived!
Location very close to the centre of Cambridge Fire alarm went of Sunday morning and hotel was evacuated
Good Parking facilities, good range for the continental breakfast, location of hotel The room was small, it smelt rather badly - not sure of what. Croissants were hard at breakfast.
Staff so kind, room in very good conditions of cleanliness. I missed a hairdryer in the room, the rest ok.
The bed was fantastic, wide as an ocean and sooooo comfortable! The standard of finish in the superior room was top class and it was a real treat to have a jacuzzi bath.
Ground floor disabled room was very good for my elderly mother. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Teamaking facilities in the room would have been good, although it was possible to made a cup in the dining room at night.
This is a nice guesthouse near the railway station (2.0K). There are buses to the city centre every ten minutes on weekdays, every half an hour on Sundays. Anyway, if you don't mind walking, it takes about 55 minutes to the city centre along quite roads. If walking along major roads (there are pavements), you could do it in 45 minutes. The rooms are clean, well-maintained and comfortable. They are more spacious than rooms of other guesthouses in this category (but don't expect mega rooms). Continental breakfast offers a good choice of food (cereals, bread, toast, yoghurt, coffee / tea / orange juice, cakes, fresh fruit). And the lady of the house gives you a warm welcome and service.
The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The room was quiet and well furnished. The continental breakfast was great and you could help yourself to as much toast and cereal as you liked.
Staff was exceptional and quite helpful. She made us feel welcome and comfortable. The light above the sink wasn't working. Or maybe I just couldn't figure out how to turn it on.
Very friendly couple. No extra charge for English Breakfast. A black hair in the egg.
Very friendly en helpfull The heating in the bathroom could't turn down, so very hot (you can get burnt) Internet connection works only outside the room.
Staff extremely obliging, helpful and polite. Good location for City visit on main road with frequent buses. Excellent breakfast
Lovely staff, excellent parking, lovely room, fantastic breakfast, very comfortable stay!
plenty of free parking available. Ajacent Beefeeter offering good value meals and friendly service rooms would benifit from telephone and clock/radio
Easy to book. Standard of room for short break good. We know what to expect before we arrive, the routine is always the same. We never have any problems. I like this short, quick questionnaire. I think the rooms are overpriced. Something around £55 would be better. Yes I know you do have lower priced rooms but they are in places where few people would go for a break. That's all!
Good location just off one of the main roads into Cambridge City - bus stop close by if you don't want to use car. Staff pleasant and welcoming. Speedy check in and found room to be spacious, clean and well equipped. Enjoyed breakfast and again staff friendly and efficient. Would definitely stay again when in Cambridge. Price very keen compared to many city centre hotels.
Friendly staff, promimity to rail station and city centre A little noise at night
Convenience to Town Centre
Hot water and very comfortable bed. Poor cleanliness of bathroom. Rushed breakfast service...hot food brought whilst still eating cereal. Top end rate room asked for, their 'deluxe' room did not seem to warrant the extra money. First impression was a dark and outdated decor.
Clean, comfortable hotel. Good breakfast. No.
Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent breakfast. not applicable, would certainly stay again.
Breakfast was fantastic. Rooms are quaint and pleasant. Easy walk to downtown.
Staff were very helpful Room was a little cramped and quite noisy
The staff were helpful and the free parking within a walking distance of the city was a real bonus
Close to the railway station. The room was very clean and quiet. Nice staff. The room was small to be called “de luxe” and the furniture was old.
Cleanliness of entire hotel- spotless everywhere. Lack of support of mattresses- could do with replacing.
Jackies infectous mood and kindness towards everything. She was helpful kind and very accomodating. I recomend Parkview to all my friends... The area around it is freezing...
It was the ideal location for us and the breakfast was excellent
Friendly, good service
easy parking room was a little jaded, and the window needed fixing
Friendly welcome. Warm rooms Basically a B&B at small hotel prices. Not good value for money. Room very small.
Proprietor was very friendly and helpful. The guesthouse was lovely, clean, comfortable and in a nice quiet location, although still convenient to the centre of Cambridge.
Comfortable bed, quiet location
A very quiet location and comfortable bed. Although the breakfast selection was reasonable, no cooked items were offered. The bathroom and its fittings were tatty and broken.
Very friendly, good food.
You couldn't fault the efficiency of the staff and the room was very clean. The bed itself was comfortable. Well located for what I needed. Too expensive for what was on offer. No clock or alarm in the room. The shower was old and tempremental and leaked. The room was tiny. Walls thin - was kept awake at night by a drip in the next room.
Friendly & helpful staff, clean & comfortable Double room was small for 2 people adequate for 1 person
Cleanliness of Hotel and good food. Availability of car parking and easy access to City Centre. The first evening, there appeared to be a problem with the drains as there was a smell of sewerage in the dining room but this was not apparent on the second evening.
Staff polite and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were very good and service effficient. Room 106 ground floor was near a front door and stairs so a little noisy.
Staff excellent as usual Rooms a bit on small side compared to others I stay at but otherwise good
the bar stayed open late the shower was not very powerful
Nice wedding venue,Clean but basic. Very noisy at night, rooms very close together. Shower over bath not very good & very awkward to get in & out without slipping.
Location to Cambridge, good car park, hotel facilities good, friendly staff. As the hotel is on a main road, constant, continous traffic throughout 24hrs, very difficult to get a quiet nights sleep. Due to being on the ground floor near the fire door, constant banging of fire door as guests came & went during the evening/night.
Friendly staff, good food, nice room. Slightly over priced
General relaxed ambience of the hotel and pleasant staff.
Please write at least 15 words
i like that we had clean linen everyday and comfortable surroundings.
The staff were welcoming. Our room was comfortable, though the purpose of our visit meant we did not spend much time there. Our breakfast was generous, and very tasty. Thanks for allowing us to leave our car in the car park while we went into the city. nothing
We found the hotel a little in need of decoration but it was clean and most importantly all the staff were excellent In need of some redecoration
The cleanliness of the bathroom could have been better, it was looking slightly tired
It was comfortable, clean & was a vey good breakfast. the room was a little cold
Staff friendly and welcoming. Bathroom could do with a bit of work. Toilet flush broken, decor looks tired. Couldn't connect to internet service, wirelessly or wired. But not necessarily their fault.
Staff very cooperative and pleasant. Breakfast was good. Facilities and room were good. Room was new. 20 minutes walk from Cambridge centre. No parking problems. Tv was very cheap and poor
Room was new and generally clean, staff friendly. Room full of mosquitos, tv didn't work properly (poor aerial), no decent sized bath / shower towels, breakfast not cooked properly. Workmen working - drilling and hammering throughout afternoon and morning in room next door. Staff didn't have me booked in on their own system - just a diary!, And the online bookings appeared not to tie up.
Clean and near work site Poor tv reception, leaking shower tray,no heating in bathroom, no food available in the evening despite advertised as restaurant.
Good night's sleep
Very handy for the nearby Ultralase clinic.
The location of rooms to the main building was excellent. The weather was fantastic and opening the door to the beautiful gardens was something we never expected. The room only lacked a mirror in the room itself. Although there was one in the bathroom an additional one would have been useful.
Large room with good facilities. Food excellent. Good location for colleges. Could'nt find way into pub as road layout had changed and not very obvious where to go
It is a Pub and the real ale was very tasty the night of arrival! The room was cold and heating was functional and non existent. Breakfast was not of a good quality, overcooked bacon and eggs.
Room clean and well prepared - beds & pillows very comfortable - staff friendly and helpful - individually cooked breakfast. Staff at the hotel were not aware of booking made with Active Hotels but were helpful and able to find us a room. Rooms only just being compleated and some details outstanding.
The proximity to the centre of Cambridge (1.3 miles) the independence of the room and the excellent breakfast, very good value, not backpack or budget exactly but not far off. The dining room was very cold for breakfast
Impressive exterior to the building and well meaning staff The breakfast was hot well cook and hot plates so the food did not go cold No restaurant facilities in the evening - the only offerring was a bar menu of jacket potatoes, pasty or sandwiches. The 'chef' was stopping work at 8.00 pm presumably health and safety were worried about potential microwave overdose. No facilities, other than a bar which had no background music, no tv and no sky sports - all requirements for a business traveller, hence no customers. We popped in to the bar a 6.30 before going to a meeting and returned aat 9.15 - there had been no custom between those hours and there were no other clients until we left at 10.15 Breakfast was on long tables not separate tables and no table service
Extremely noisy; unfriendly front desk staff; small rooms with outdated furniture and electronic equipment. I left 2 hours after arriving because I tought the noise level was too high. The front desk staff didn't even ask me why I was leaving or if they can do anything to help me. They just took the key ( metal, bulky) cashed the check and said good bye.
the staff were happy to help and the facilities were very good. the room was warm and comfortable
Bath Mat Shower Hooks / Curtain brown stained rust rings these are cheap to buy seemed a shame spoilt bathroom
I found the staff very helpful, nothing was too much for them. The parking was great all in all a very enjoyable stay. Will come again. Everything was spot on.
We were upgraded on the second night due to our complaints into a crown room. This just about reached 4 star standard. The receptionist who upgraded us was very friendly (the only member of the staff who was!) The hotel room we were given was a twin (we had requested a double). It was small shabby and the beds were extremely uncomfortable (broken springs and lumpy pillows). We couldn't be moved as there was no other room available, but were offered no apology or an offer to be moved the second night. The breakfast was average, the scrambled eggs runny and the service awful (we were seated, went up to get some food, came back and another couple had been put at our table - despite our bag and coat being there!). The dinner was also average. The 'gym' was dated and cramped and the changing rooms filthy.
Discreet, quiet and private. Excellent bar and restaurant.
fast service, good decor
Easy to find, Staff very nice, suited our purpose. Hard Bed
The breakfast was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were attractive The room was rather dimly lit and the double bed was rather firm and uncomfortable
A double bed for single occupancy The room was generally clean but they had missed dusting lamps and skirting boards - no tea on tray
