Reservations were made with Travelocity for the hotel casino 'Isle of Capri' in Waterloo. As had happened before there were no rooms when we arrived and upon showing my confirmation papers the clerk after saying there were no rooms suddenly found one only it was a King and I had asked for two queens but they did not have a room with 2 Queen beds. We need them for our sleep masks which are cumbersome to sleep with. There was no microwave and a broken refrigerator door latch and we could not get into it the first night but next morning got it open and there was only enough space for 4 bottles of water. We didn't ask the beds to be changed so they did the towels and glasses and wastebaskets but really is that rather cheap service. They did not even straighten the bed. We were given rooms with cement roof scenery. All we could see was the sky. When you book with a company like travelocity who buy up blocks of rooms you get the worst view ever so they are cheaper supposedly. The WiFi was so slow I never got my e-mails in nor could I play a game or two on the computer. I would not stay at all if it weren't for the convenience of the casino but I think that was the last time we will be staying there. Check out was fast and they offered us a bottle of water as if that was a consolation prize.
The hotel was very clean, service was very good and lunch down in the deli was excellent. Pool was packed with kids on a Sunday and not pleasant that day.
I have stayed here multiple times. I will keep coming back. It is a great place to stay!
My wife and I stayed the night here because it was about one-half of the way on our cross country trip. What we didn't anticipate was an absolutely screaming kid in the room right next to ours. Immediately after check-in I notified the front desk about it and the response I received was that they couldn't do anyting about it. We were both very tired from a long day on the road and they wouldn't move us to a different room because they were 'sold out'.
The hotel is very nice and clean, near shopping center and restaurants.
Thanks for several great stays each time has been memorible. If this is your first time ask about the upgrades they are well worth the extra few dollars.
This was, hands-down, the best place I've ever stayed. I've been to Rome, Amsterdam, Chicago, Minneapolis, Austin, and San Antonio, and the fanciest, nicest hotel I've ever stayed in was in Waterloo, IA! It was very classy with a tiled walk-in shower big enough for 2, very nice decor, and a very 'ritzy' feel. The only downside was the smoking in the casino which we could also smell in the hallways (but it wasn't in our room). Just my wife and I stayed on this trip.
We were travelling from Ohio to IA. About an hour away from Waterloo, IA, I called the Isle hotel to check room availability. I was told there was a room available. I completed the reservation process over the phone and gave them my credit card number. Upon check-in, the desk clerk told us that the room was not available. I told him that I had just called an hour ago. He asked if I called the hotel or the reservation call center. (I didn't know for sure - I got the number off of their website.) The man at the desk offered no apology nor any kind of assistance. So, we dragged our luggage back through the huge parking lot in 5 degree weather at midnight to find another hotel.
The room looked amazing, straight out of a interior design magazine, from the leaf-bladed fan, to the flat screen today, to the large walk-in shower with a bench, everything about the room was awesome. No funny smells, staff was friendly, the buffet;which costed quite a bit, was good, elevators were fast, parking was okay, not the best unless you paid for it, as there is also a casino and valet parking as options. There's a pool-side bar, a restaurant, a buffet, a swimming pool, which was a little smaller than it could've been, a large hot tub. Basically the only thing I didn't like was that some of the other people there were clearly doing drugs or VERY intoxicated, so I really wouldn't recommend this hotel to children, because my father wouldn't let me stay there alone, because he didn't feel safe having his 19 yr old daughter stay there alone, and barely settled letting my little 17 yr old sister stay there, however the doors are very secure and there's even a safe in the closet!! He could've just wanted to stay there because he wanted the shower and the comfy beds, which honestly I considered taking with me and just letting them charge my credit card for, because I've never slept better in my entire life!! If only I were 21, it would've been perfect!!
Love the hot tub and pool. The buffet was also very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Had a nice stay. Hotel staff from the front desk to the wait staff could have been\nmore helpful and friendly, very short with answers or did not know. Getting food\nafter 1 am was poor. Everything was very pricey.
