Large, comfortable and well equipped room. Peaceful rural location. Great breakfast with cheerful serving staff. Difficult to find, but they do provide clear directions. No mention of wi-fi in its own directory.
Very Helpful, advised on local pubs, filled flask for our journey home, even though the weather was very cold that weekend the room temperature was perfect, obviously they had a good heating system
room was big and comfortable and well-equipped cooked breakfast wasn't very generous
Beautiful furnishings, very homely but luxurious at the same time, excellent full English breakfast.
the friendleness of the owners, and the food were superb nothing
the hospitality was second to none
Beryl is set in lovely grounds and the view from the bedroom was lovely. The room was very clean and comfortable with a nice size modern bathroom.
Charming and attentive. Lovely owner always available, helpful, whenever required. Would certainly book again. Nothing at all
Our favourite hotel in Britain - its that good
City centre location - friendly helpful staff - comfortable, clean room - excellent comfortable lounge with open fire, newspapers and drinks service - good breakfast with good service in the dining room not very impressed by the dinner choice, but there are lots of different places to eat within a very short distance
Did not offer any incentive to dine in hotel.
Friendliness and welcome from staff, but at times felt that they were trying to cover too many aspects of the work - needed more staff. Bit overpriced for the room facilities - shower was static and not easy to use. Do some furniture moving to watch TV etc.
Excellent ancient coaching hotel, nicely modernised. Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient.
Room service with a smile! The wallpaper in room 4. It was too busy for the size of the room.
The Staff at the Swan in wells were all really nice, friendly and polite. The hotel over the carnival weekend was very well staffed(maybe for the carnival?) but well run. The staff were always on hand and the reception ladies were also very helpful. Very good service. En suite was a little small in 22 and dated, the room was fine, tv, kettle etc. Budget toilet roll a big let down. I like the good stuff.
I liked the blend of old and new. The public rooms were delightful and the location of the hotel was excellent. I would like to have had more choice and variety on the menu in the restaurant. I think that you need a more light meal/bar snack facility as well in the hotel.
Availability of a car park and the pleasantness of the staff No lift and no offer to carry bags to the room
Location, wonderful breakfast, large room, comfort - good size bathroom, good bed. Nice bar, good parking.
Location was very central and ideal for what we wanted to watch the illuminated carnival on Friday night The bacon at breakfast!!!
friendly staff, pretty room. I would have liked a bath!
It was such a fascinating location. Checking out was done at the hotel across the road but this wasn't made clear.
Our room was fantastic. A great view of the Cathedral, and a magnificently comfortable bed, that did not look out of place. The whole hotel has plenty of character and charm. I don't think there was anything that I didn't like. Though I think the stairs to the upper rooms you have to be stable on your feet, as they are steep.
The convenience to city centre and it was quiet Having to use the hotel opposite for breakfast
Good location directly opposite to the cathedral. Rooms used but comfy. Looked a bit neglected but bearable.
The room which overlooked the cathedral green. The room itself was excellent and the view was amazing!
Friendly and welcoming staff, excellent food in the restaurant, historic and central location parking was a bit of an issue but a minor thing
It's location Very uncomfortable mattress on first night - but room changed for second night. Decor in first room somewhat shabby and worn.
Its nearness to the centre of Wells. View of cathedral west wing from our bedroom. Being in an historic building. Not being able to stop outside to unload luggage. A very old building but attention to detail poor, eg electric fittings in room, dirty bath, having to go across the street for breakfast in a co-owned hotel. No receptionist available for checking out at 9.40 am
Charming location. Not good value for money. Requested 4 poster bed, thought would get nicer room, however not particularly clean, room small, basic, no net on huge window which directly looked over main street and another hotel, so had to keep curtains closed all time and weather very hot, didn't sleep well as no air able to circulate. An old small portable TV, a kettle thats cord was too short, therefore had to boil on the floor and no milk for morning tea!. That morning had breakfast in sister hotel across road, no staff in the Ancient Gatehouse at all, all closed up! Would not recommend this hotel, not good value at all, other hotels in same road but unsure of there prices!
The staff was wonderful. The breakfast was fantastic. The lounge facilities with WIFI were comfortable and easy to use. The bed in the room was very uncomfortable. The matress seemed to be very old
Excellent location, good breakfast The courtyard room was quite cold
Hotel is in an old building opposite a huge Medieval stone gateway and just a few seconds from the cathedral: an ideal location in a beautiful and historical city. My room was clean, comfortable and warm (it was unseasonally cold when I visited). Staff were helpful, friendly and courteous. Breakfast good, with a roaring fire in the breakfast/room restaurant. I didn't eat dinner in the hotel, but the restaurant was busy each night I stayed there. Parking is indeed tight but not a challenge unless you have a huge car or are a nervous driver. It was made more difficult by guests who could or would not park sensibly. Easy to find if you follow the 'City centre deliveries' signs, as per hotel directions. Perhaps a little expensive for its quality, but that is to be expected in a small but tourist-popular UK town/city centre.
visited wells and glasonbury
Staff were excellent. Central location good for our needs. No shower in our room
Very convenient location at the centre of the city Parking facilities Room conveniently separate from the hotel restaurant, bar etc. Excellent restaurant at the sister hotel across the road. The bed in the room was very firm / hard (not comfortable) The heating made a noise (clicking radiator) through the night. Breakfast was average not a great deal of choice.
City centre convenience. On site parking valuable. Staff welcoming and obliging. Breakfast excellent. Dined elsewhere in the evening. Not a lot.
The location. Shower hose in bedroom did not work properly.
Staff were v. helpful with local information and bus schedules. Bed was new and v. comfy. I enjoyed both an eve. meal and the included full breakfast. The room was fine, a single room so small but well equipped. The hotel is being refurbished, so the one drawback was the bathroom. Hopefully, it's next on the list. While everything worked, it clearly has not been updated yet.
Location in the centre of Wells easy walking for main sightseeing the market. Also a number of resturants within a short walk. Benefits from having a car park.
The service was first class from first to last. The restaurant facilities are very good with a gourmet burger/steak bar in the hotel and a full restaurant available in the sister hotel opposite. It is superbly located for the cathedral and town centre. We would have preferred the room to be a little larger and to have included a bath. Even Travelodge manages to achieve this and they charge significantly less. (On the other hand the superb location more than compensates for this).
the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location was beautiful. The room was comfortable and well appointed. Another option for dining would be nice as well as a place to get snacks after hours.
Everything it was wonderful could not fault it.
Helpfulness and friendliness of staff of the staff I did not like the way the gentleman in the restaurant (we assumed the manager) barged in front of me to reprimand the duty hostess. We had observed her for at least 30 minutes and had commented to each other on the excellent job she was doing as the restaurant was becoming busier. Disappointed the cleaner was in our room as we returned from breakfast.
we were only there for a very short night stay, so can not realistically comment.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The hotel was up market & stylish. You could have walked about in designer, formal or leisure wear and no-one would have batted an eye. 100% for cleanliness. The food was excellent and catered for all tastes.
Nice new stylish rooms, decent food Noise on Saturday night until 1am - avoid staying on Saturdays due to wedding receptions.
Staff were enthusiastic to help make our stay enjoyable New Hotel with a few teething problems, when all problems sorted out, this is a good hotel and I will definitely return The large ugly picture of a cow on bedroom wall (we covered this with a large bath towel) The safe was not secured to the wall (I could have carried this under my arm) For those that like bathroom privacy, the bathroom window into the bedroom may not be your thing Small wardrobe space to hang clothes for two people
The hotel & rooms were beautiful. The pool was nice & clean. The location was lovely. I was not able to benefit fully from the use of the pool with my children due to time restrictions. I did not find the staff easy to talk to. The childrens menu for my stay was not available. I had a leaking tap in my room. I did not think paying an extra £40 for the tea/coffee & toiletries package was worthwhile.
The setting was beautiful and I really liked the gym. The staff were all very friendly and the room was comfortable and well-designed. Thought it was very cheeky that you added £24 for breakfast that I didn't eat be 'default'. The reason I specifically took a room without breakfast is because I was going out for a meal with family nearby. Also it was very hard to reach reception by telephone - once I waited a full ten minutes.
Absolutely everything, the hotel staff were friendly, helpful, polite. The hotel itself is fantastic, the stay not long enough!!
Lovely building. My colleague arrived at 20.10 hrs after being held up in traffic. I advised that he would there around that time. The hotel information stated dinner finished at 20.30hrs but because the hotel was quiet, the kitchen staff decided to go home early so we had to find somewhere to eat outside of the hotel. Call me naive, but I thought hotels were supposed to provide a service.
The hotel had decor which fitted with the style of the building. It was very comfortable and the staff were friendly and pleasant. The only thing I would say was that I missed having a bath but the shower was more than adequate.
Wonderful listed Georgian building. Large rooms. Bags of atmosphere. Very good dinner. Lovely location on edge of small town..
Character filled building and large rooms. The bathroom and general room decor needs updating. Downstairs areas are very clean and fresh, our room wasn't in comparison. Also, a cooked breakfast would have been nice for no additional charge instead of continental.
Breakfast Very nerow "double bed"
The Beds were so comfortable and the breakfast perfect nothing
Great food and friendly staff Hotel still being renovated
A very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in very tasteful surroundings.A Lovely old house with attractive gardens (Still being worked on one side). The room with kingsize bed was very comfortable and the breakfast(My choice of scrambled egg and Sausage) was freshly cooked and delicious. I was sorry we could not have dined there the previous evening .I also appreciated the Fridge in the room which was well stocked. None
None Booked the hotel for two nights and a meal on the Friday...... Told I could not have the confirmed second night then told I could not have the meal on Friday............ Needless to say I went to another hotel that could meet our requirements
Beautiful Georgian House with lovely squashy sofas in lounge. Lovely room and bathroom. Good food and friendly staff.
exellent spacious room with character, good food, friendly staff and superb position for wild life. Only minutes from Glastonbury which has a number of good pubs and restaurants. nothing
All of the hotel staff were polite and friendly. The complimentary tea/coffee/biscuits/spring water and especially the port & sherry were very welcome after a hard day's sightseeing! I was also pleased to see that the hotel appears to be wheelchair friendly, an important factor for the family staying in the room next to ours.
Best poached eggs in the world. Very efficient check-in/out. Very friendly staff. Local jam, art, etc on display and available to buy. Nice looking house. Big room. Free wi-fi. Room was very cold, shower didn't work, bath took a long time to fill. Car park was down a muddy poorly lit track.
Positive & friendly attitude of the staff
Very welcoming staff/owner, quiet location, spacious room, good breakfast there is nothing in Meare, not even a pub, so a car is a necessity, Glastonbury, Street and Wells an easy drive away
the restaurant was closed
I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights when visiting Glastonbury and Wells. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Very beautiful and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choices. The hotel is situated in a very peaceful location and ideal for exploring Summerset. Absolutely recommendable.
The Food was excellent & the bed very comfortable Although the only member of staff we met was very nice. She seemed disorganised. No info in the room..no phone. V. little hot water
Friendly owners and a lovely setting
Very friendly all round. The food was excellent, it was easy to find and we would be more than happy to stay there again.
The historical settings The restaurant staff are not aware of good customer skills. We had a meal and when we decided to end it with a dessert, we were told the kitchens had already been closed. Nobody had informed us
Breakfast didn't like the bucket catching rainwater in my bedroom, didn;t like the windows that wouldn't close nor the central heating that couldn't be turned down and old sponge pillows.
The building was built in the 15th century - and you can feel that when you first glance it, when you walk in, when you walk around, and even the room we were staying in was all crooked and ancient - but with all the modern facilities you would need, a perfect bathroom, convenient bed, lots of rooms to put your places in (tons of drawers). Staff was very friendly! The view from the room was not too good - through a tiny window I could see only the back of the rest of the buildings. Also, de food was quite delicious - but quite dear according to other places I've dined in the UK.
Food was particularly good - rooms newly decorated - shower excellent small rooms
Friendly service, great location. no complaints
I was given an upgrade to a wonderful suite of rooms! really very good! The room was up a curved staircase and whilst I was having a good day with my condition I could manage to get up . However on a bad day and using my crutches I wouldnt be able to. There was a huge airconditioning unit on the roof of extension one floor below. It kept switching on and off every few minutes all night making sleep nearly impossible! I raised this in the morning and was given a £15 reduction in the fee. They said they usually turn it off at night - it ruined my stay
Hotel location - perfect! Dining room closed on Sunday night!!! No TV remote in room. TV not tuned up properly.
I liked the old character and the food was fantastic. I thought the decor was great and the beds were really comfortable we stayed in a room at the front and the room was very bright from the street and hotel outside lights they need black out fabric backing the blind. The staff were polite but when we left we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay.
Very friendly and courteous staff. Decor needs a major facelift, food cools very quickly, Wi-Fi poor; Glastonbury closes very early, and runs on Central London prices.Limited food menu
Olde World charm. Good selection of ale Poorly lit bathroom mirror and none whatsoever in bedroom
