Room was cold with the heating set to max. No heating in bathroom and v.cold. No hot water! Cold shower on was not good; you could stay a travellodge and get hot water! My breakfast order ended up on another table and had to re-ask for it twice.
Check-in and check-out were efficient. The room itself was clean. The spare blanket was in a protective plastic cover which was not aired, meaning the blanket had a stale smell. I know the hotel can't help it, but the cathedral near the hotel chimed every 15 minutes throughout the night. I suppose the hotel could have informed people of this in advance.
A spotlessly clean room with very good facilities which ensured a most comfortable night's sleep.
A nice old hotel with a fine staircase, helpful staff and an excellent breakfast. Ideal for visiting the Cathedral. parking easy. Ready for redecoration.
Easy to get to on foot from the station and within walking distance of shops, restaurants and tourist attractions Staff were slghtly dismissive and I felt that aking me if I would like a cooked breakfast was an afterthought.
Clean tidy, staff very polite Needed wifi and spent 4 hrs without any success or help from staff. Very noisy due to traffic
Central location, Noisy road outside bedroom during working hours
Good staff, good location - 'old school' hotel A bit scruffy...
Central location, free parking Lack of interest in my requirements (I asked for interlinked rooms, or at least next to each other, as we have kids of different ages - not only were we separated, but initially even on different floors...even though there were plenty of room available), high street noise and no air conditioning
Central location. A little noisy if your room was facing the street. Staff were very nice and helpful. A greater number of staff would have been an advantage.
Location and service The room was very hot. We shut down the radiator but failed to note that an electric heater was on at full blast. When sleep became impossible during the night, we realised what was happening, and turned off the heater. It then took 40 minuteas for the room to cool.
This is a terrible place. The service was disgraceful. The man in charge was rude, arrogant and only interested in taking money. After our terrible experience here I would recommend this place to be shut down. I would tell anyone and everyone to steer well clear. It is very over priced and the staff are useless - we couldn't even get directions to the hotel from the so called reception.
Accessibility A bit of Fawlty Towers about the hotel
Very nice room, but bath very small. Good location for discovering Ely. Breakfast service was slow (one poor school age girl on her own). Dinner was poor, web site advertises a lively new chef, his food was neither.
Location. Faded elegance, which some would find charming.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the food was excellent
Staff were friendly and accommodating. We had dinner at the hotel which was good as was the selection for breakfast. For visiting Ely the location is excellent very easy walking distance. The hotel is certainly not AA**** as stated. The general appearance is looking tired and dated the pictures on the web site do not reflect the current state of the hotel. We booked a double bedded room and ended up with a twin but the staff could not really explain why especially as they had only a few guests staying. This hotel could be really good it's location and the quality of the food offered is good, however, the service especially from the owner/manager was a little 'Faulty Towers' on occasion. I would reccommend it to friends but with the proviso that you 'take it as you find it' - interesting!.
Excellent Dinner & Breakfast Room clean and tidy but a little dated
Had to rearrange accomodation when Ely had no water supply. Thankfully was able to get a room at the Nyton. Room was cold. Sink was in the bedroom. Room was above bar, so quite noisy.
Warmest welcome and loveliest room; breakfast at their beautiful dining room was memorable too. I really hope to stay there again. I liked everything there, but if you are a busy traveller, it would be more convenient if you go there by your own car.
The excellent service. No
Very friendly helpful landlady, lovely setting Can hear people in adjoining room very easy (thin walls)
Room was good and clean, breakfast was very good and the owners very friendly. Bathroom was very small and shower lacked power.
Everything - very friendly welcome, spotlessly clean and comfortable, lovely breakfast.
What did i like best? The friendly disposition of the hosts above anything else, a lovely couple who really made you feel welcome. The room may have been quaint with a decorative taste perhaps not for everyones pallet but having stayed in a few hotels on my tavels Baileys definitely had personal touches which elevate it above the others. The room was a little cold and the t.v could have been a little bigger.
The homely atmosphere and friendliness. Also the feeling that nothing was to much trouble.
The owners were extreamly courtious, polite and friendly with a vast knowledge of the surrounding areas. It was an ideal base for a wonderful weekend.
It was very welcoming and cosy. Quite a superb stay
Decent quailty food at breakfast. Lovely gardens with birds. Overly strict hours of arrival, breakfast and departure. A little more chintzy than expected. Tired decor. Breakfast ambience not relaxed. Cramped shower/toilet facilities.
Roomy, central, Saw no staff in the hotel! Person at restaurant showed us in, but we were unsure that this was a member of staff. Front door regularly left open, and felt vulnerable as hall was unattended and gave access to rooms so anyone from the street could enter unhindered.
Tea/coffee making facilities provided. The place was clean. Staff were friendly. No breakfast included. Room was cold. Check in was at the restaurant underneath the guest house. Sunday morning no staff were available to ask for information.
There is no breakfast but readily available on high street.
Room had lots of character... lovely beams English lacking from staff
This is not a hotel. It is beds, with no breakfast, right in the very centre of the beautiful Cathedral City of Ely, in Cambridgeshire. My niece's wedding was in St Mary's Church, and the Ely Guest House is on St Mary's Street, and also a stone's throw from The Lamb Hotel, where the reception took place. I had breakfast at this hotel!! I could not have chosen a handier place, given that I travelled by train, and therefore was on foot. Also, quite unplanned by me, my single room was changed for a double - plenty of room for my long legs!! This Is not a complaint. a small building in the centre fo an ancient Cathedral City, is itself going to be ancient. The Ely Guest House seemed to be of half-timber construction, with little narrow stairs. I am now older, and found this not very easy....
It was a lovely room in a wonderful building. Very clean and full of character. No toilet paper, major problem. I had to go to the Lamb to use their toilet on Sunday morning.
It is very convenient, being 2 minutes walk away from the cathedral and the shops There were no bathroom facilities in the room, not even a washbasin.
central location. comfortable bed and warm room. could only access one channel on the tv. ensuite bathroom very cramped.quite expensive in comparison to other hotels stayed in.
It advertised itself as B&B, but does not provide breakfast!
The beds were comfortable, the shower efficient and it was in a very good location (200 metres fron cathedral) No breakfast (although on b&b guides), no shower gel, minimal tea and coffee facilities
