Great location, clean and large room In need of refusbishment
The view It is very rundown. The floors sloped, the bed was very hard and uncomfortable, the curtains were faded and dirty and the patio doors were stuck with gaffer tape. The bathroom was smelly with no enamel on the bath so was dirt stained. Needs refurb!!
Room was perfect with a wonderfully luxurious bathroom and superb view
Comfortable quality furnishings and great bathrooms Nothing
watching the sun go down and sharing a bath with a close friend.
The warm welcome from the staff when booking in and throughout our stay, the wonderful sea view from our room and the excellent food.
the location is excellent, good standard of rooms, friendly staff and steam room! A touch to expensive and the spa could do with updating.
Good Location, Well decorated rooms, modern bathroom.Plenty of Car Parking, Excellent Breakfasts' Outdated Dress code for Dinner. No changing Facilities for indoor pool etc.
Fabulous views from all public rooms. Our bedroom and bathroom. Could sit in the bath and have a sea view.
Great location with wonderful views across the beach. Good room, we were in one with a four poster bed. Great bathroom with giant bath. Clean tidy and well decorated. Also very pleasant leisure facilities with pool, jacuzzi and steam room The staff seemed very keen to repeat the fact that a jacket, shirt and tie were required for dinner, with jeans and trainers not being allowed which was very clearly worded on the web site. At the grand old age of 50 I feel capable of reading and appearing suitably attired without reminders. There was also a question as to whether I realised it was £36 each for dinner? Having paid just under £500 for two nights b&b I felt it unecessary to question my abilty to pay. Having made more than one ref to the dress code it was interesting to note that 4 of the 6 couples dining near us all had jeans on? Unfortunately the dinner itself was also dreadful. A very unusual menu selection was then delivered badly. Our starter and main was fish and the menu stated boldly that all vegetables and dishes were lightly cooked. Unfortunately both items had been overcooked, kept on a plate under a hot lamp and prepared before we had sat at our table. We asked the waitress to remove the main course without eating it and indicated that there was nothing else on the menu that was remotely appealing. The waitres was very surprised, said that she was surprised and indicated how unusual it was,. The plates went and we did not see another member of the restauarant team again for the whole evening. (Not even to apologise let alone perhaps offer coffee?)it was also disapointing that the whole £72 was still on my bill when we checked out despite the receptionist being aware of our dissatisfaction. There was apparently no one on the hotel staff able to take responsibilty for offering a reduction in the cost. All complaints were required in writing to the hotel owner who is the only person who can make these decisions when she visits once a week? Also there appeared to be lack of communication as I had been emailed directly by reception prior to travelling asking me if I wanted to book a table because they were busy. I replied, requested a table for 8 pm and received a reply saying that it had been made ( plus a reminder that no jeans were allowed and I must wear a jacket and tie) unfortunately no note had been made? Perhaps we should have taken this as a sign
Location was stunning. Very friendly, efficient staff. Excellent food with a very welcome option of having it cooked in a more 'plain' manner, which older people prefer at times. Hotel getting very slightly 'tired'. Weather was awful, but not hotels fault.
Excellent restaurant, breathtaking views and peace and quiet. Also excellent leisure centre - pool and hot tubs. Decor not quite perfect - the odd corner of peeling wallpaper, the odd light bulb not working. The bar never seems to be staffed. I thought the 'Maitre D's manner like that at McDonalds, I.E. saying all the things but with no sincerely. Apologies if this is just a mistaken impression.
Limitted choice of food
The level of service provided by the staff. There tends to be a large number of older stiff upper lip residence.
Comfy beds We paid â£180.00 bed and breakfast and I was a but disappointed with our room, for the money it was a bit small. My father recommended it to us as he has stayed a number of times and it was our ten year wedding anniversary.
In some hotels some single rooms can be little more than broom cupboards with views over the kitchen/car park but my room had a balcony and a superb view over Saunton beach. Also, I had the very warm indoor pool to myself most of the time. The gym was a bit cramped and not particularly well equipped.
Highly recommented, beautiful hotel and views, we were lucky to have lovely weather which added to make it a most relaxtion weekend, we will go back later in the year,
The view Wasnt given the room I booked, reception staff were absolutely appauling, one of them was swearing to her friend over the counter talking about boyfriends etc at full volume, they were extremely rude and when I told them I booked a sea facing room and was given a room facing a brick wall, they really didnt care. the corridors and stairways smelt like a museum which hadnt been cleaned for some time. hugely overpriced!!!!!
The cottage was wonderful. Everything, from the kitchen utilities to the cosy bed was very well thought out and designed. Wifi would have been a nice to have, however, I noted from the welcome notes that this was far to expensive. I think the rate we paid was quiet high, but worth it for a treat. The swimming pool was a little too busy for its size and the mixed changing room wasn't great. However, Im sure if the weather had been better it would have been empty!
Welcome excellent. Resturant breakfast very varied choice to a high standard. Evening dinner once again varied and menu changed daily, the waiting staff most helpful. As we booked late on the internet there were only two rooms left unfortunately outside of the room was a large air extraction unit, the noise between 7am and 11pm was unacceptable it was very hot but we could not have the windows open.
some staff were very friendly but not all. Food was not very good and the service at breakfast was also poor. A number of staff were milling around but no came to offer any service.
Attention to detail. Meals taken were very good.
Deluxe rooms spacious, big and comfortable bed and english breakfast superb. Pillows could have been a bit better but better than other hotels I have stayed in. Staff extremely friendly, informative and helpful. not sure if smaller rooms would suit. heating not 24/7. no bath in ensuite. No seating lounge or relaxation seating in room. Weather turned very cold, wet and extremely windy weather during our stay and there was nonwhere suitable to relax.
My wife and I thourougly enjoyed our 4day stay at The Woodlands,so much so that it was a difficult decision not to extend our visit by another day.The room we had overlooking the back garden was very large and very comfortable, the shower was excellent, and the breakfasts cooked by Chris were the best English breakfasts my wife and I have ever tasted. We found the proprietors at the Woodlands very friendly and amiable and all these factors really combined to make our visit one to remember, and we will certainly return again in the future
The nice owners/staff.They made you feel at home, nothing was to much for them. The room we had was comfortable and had all one could want.Breakfast very good and prompt.Very clean and tidy.
Friendly staff, clean and tidy room and hotel. Very good breakfast. None

Friendly service coupled with very lovely accommodation. Would definately recommend it to others!
The friendlness, it is a lovely hotel. The food is great, and freshly prepared. I was very relaxed and it felt like home away from home.
good value, very relaxed and warm welcome throughout home from home feeling No
Everything was excellent. The room was beautiful, lovely white bed linen, very clean and very spacious. The breakfast was very good and we could decide when to have it (brilliant when your on holiday). We were made to feel very welcome and we had a very nice stay.
Excellent service, good size room well furnished with all amenities available, comfortable bed, good position for town centre.
Very attentive without being overpowering, very willing to help with local attractions, cinema visits etc. Friendly hotel and staff.
friendliness of owners and excellent food not really
The food was excellent and the service was personal and friendly. So much choice at breakfast. I recommend the smoked haddock all included in the price.

Atention to detail by owners No late notice evening meals available
very nice staff and good breakfast. A good base for touring area
The hotel owners are a wonderful couple who can't do enough to help - thanks to the weather and the cancellation of the Oldenburg we were able to enjoy a second night of their warm hospitality and amazing breakfast!
Friendly service - and attention to detail
The room was spotlessly clean. We were not disturbed during our stay and full english breakfast was wonderful. Hosts were friendly and atmosphere good. Hotel was brilliant but walk to quay is down a hill, well worth the walk however, up hill on way back might prove too much for some.
Plenty of parking, friendly people & decent coffee with breakfast.
friendly, helpful service. good breakfast, nice room.
Helpful and friendly hosts who provided a marvellous breakfast, and could also organise a packed lunch if required. Well maintained and spotless B&B. Excellent location away from the noise on the quayside (but only 5 minutes walk away). Great pub across the road that had real ales and good food.
Made very welcome, beauiful room with a wonderful view, best breakfasts i've had in a long time There were no bad points
The hotel is immacualtely clean and the decor is pleasing. The parking was free. The bedroom was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good, the fresh fruit was a very nice touch. Sandy and Dave were very friendly and helpful, even to the extent of bringing breakfast time forward for us. I thought the guest house is extremely good value for money.
Very pleasant stay and greeted by the owners who were both warm and welcoming......................lovely breakfast!
the friendliness of the owners and the cleaniness of the rooms the breakfast time was to early and should be more flexible
room immaculate, owners could not have been friendlier, breakfast excellent. Highly reccommended. no.
Amongst the very best in our experience of B&B accommodation, with the addition of the most caring of proprietors. We arrived with a vehicle problem and a cellphone for which there is no signal within the West Country and were instantly rescued by Dave and Sandy. We would not hesitate to recommend Burnside to any comfort seeking couple.
Location good. Staff helpful. Room cleanliness poor, damp.
very friendly and welcoming host, excellent breakfast
Very friendly and welcoming host. Perfect room and a perfect location and very reasonable prices. Would recommend to anyone and everyone. Nothing
We loved the relaxing feel of the guest house ,the lounge was very welcoming and cosy . The breakfast was cooked to order and delicious .It made a good base for exploring north devon and was a pleasure to come back to . no .
Very friendly host, great room, excellent breakfast, good location only a few minutes walk from major Ilfracombe attractions. Some skill is needed to park (I got help doing a turn round so not in the end a problem)
We felt very welcome
Friendly owners, lovely breakfast, hope to return soon
We felt really welcome and they were really relaxed about everything. The room looked really nice but they could have given a bit more attention to the bathroom.
Quite and peacful stay. Norbury House is situated at the top of a hill. Easy going into Ilfracombe which takes 15 minutes, hard on your legs when coming back.
Room 3 had great views. If your not into hill walking do not book this accomodation as it is abit of a climb after a day walking around the town. Not recommended for the elderly!
