8.8 Excellent
Pros: A long established Victorian bed and breakfast. The current owners, James and Lewis had only just taken over the business as a going concern in April 2019 with our visit just at the start of the "off season" in mid October. We were warned that redecorating of the public rooms had over run and it was clear from the bare walls that work was still very much in progress. The guest house was a little spartan, but there was an honesty bar, selection of DVDs and public lounge. In the bedroom was a small refrigerator stocked with complimentary bottled water with a selection of chargeable beers and soft drinks. Tea/Coffee making facilities. Small flat screen TV with DVD player. Excellent WiFi. Enjoyable full English breakfast. The package deal price was very reasonable and certainly good value for money.
Cons: The bedroom was compact with a standard size double bed. The ensuite bathroom was "bijou" with an oddly placed shelf very close to the basin. Shower worked OK, but hot water took a while to run. Bathroom fittings were bargain basement. The premises was certainly looking very "tired", but no doubt the ongoing redecorating will address this issue.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel with very welcoming and knowledgeable hosts.
Cons: Bed could have been a little more comfy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved all of it. I can only echo other reviewers comments. Wonderful hosts. Charming and quirky rooms with little personal touches to make you feel at home. Beautiful location, right beside a quiet little, pebbly cove. You can hear the waves crashing on the beach. The breakfast was very very tasty and Jane and Chris were happy to cater for any changes you requested. The bed in room 1 was so comfortable and the bathroom was huge with a powerful walk in shower and a separate roll top bath. Another bonus, there was oodles of shelving for toiletries etc. My pet hate is where you have to balance everything on basin or toilet cistern.
Cons: absolutely nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I'm reluctant to share the wonder of Newbury beach lodge incase I can't get booked in again. Should I let others know about the warm and happy vibe, the kindness of our hosts, the comfort of the rooms, the delicious breakfasts, the great location. Maybe I should keep this little gem to myself

7.9 Good
Pros: The Dorchester was very welcoming - it was clean, warm and comfortable. Breakfast was nice and had a good selection to choose from. And thank you for the soya milk!
Cons: How the curtains hung meant that there was a large gap between the wall and curtain which meant that the first morning light broke through. We solved this by lifting the curtain up and propped on the window ledge. It would help if the prices for room snacks were more visible - perhaps mount on the wall?
5.8 Okay
Pros: Host's superb, breakfast excellent but sadly the cleaning of the room let the hole week down, bed was like concrete, not once was our room cleaned and we had to buy some cleaning products and do the bathroom ourselves, sadly it ruined our week. Filthy to be honest, sad but very true.....
Cons: Our room wasn't cleaned, it was absolutely filthy in places, yes some people would say your at the end of the season... But is that an excuse for staying in filthy room's, No... If you can't be asked then get someone who can as this spoiled our break, basic cleaning....

Sharon and Daryl were most welcoming and pleasant and spoke to each one of the guests each morning. A really enjoyable weekend and a beautiful place to stay.
Cons: The only thing I did not like even though it did not change my opinion of the place was the bed! It was not the most comfortable of beds I have ever slept in as it was quite lumpy and gave me a bad back each morning. My fault that I did not mention it but was so pleased with everything else felt it was unfair to complain about the bed

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Set in a beautiful hillside location overlooking Ilfracombe. We stayed in the Garden Room, complete with attached balcony and views over the town and the hotels extensive gardens, including outdoor pool! The room is of exceptional size and the host, Nicky, could not do enough for us. She met us on arrival and ensured we had all the information we needed for a short, relaxing break. It was my wife's birthday and a lovely bottle of wine was waiting for us in the room. A lovely touch. The breakfast room was delightful and the breakfasts were cooked to order (at a time of your choosing) with a great choice of cereal, toast, juices and yoghurts also on offer. The hotel itself dates back to 1792 and there is parking available on site. Nicky went the extra mile again by ensuring our space was closest to our room as I have mobility issues. The Garden Room, incidentally, is on the ground floor. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. We had to cut short our visit by a day but we will definitely revisit this beautiful part of England. Thanks Nicky. You are an asset to both the hotel and the town.
Cons: The weather. Not even Nicky can control that. At least not yet;
10.0 Excellent

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very nice and choice of cereals and juices was good. Fresh fruit and yogurts were also excellent. Toast was served hot and Anchor butter at room temperature rather than like concrete blocks was a nice touch. Conserves were also excellent served in glass jars with a variety of choices. Host was nice and friendly and we were offered more toast at both sittings. Hot tea and coffee was served promptly on arrival. The room was spotless and we were upgraded to a family room on the ground floor at no extra cost. Flat screen TV was larger than usual and extra sockets were available for mobile phones etc. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. A mini bar with soft drinks, bottles of wine etc were all available using a key provided with your door key which was an excellent addition we hadn't been offered before in addition to this the prices were very reasonable, (£1 for a can of coke/7 up) not a rip off like you normally experience with mini bars!
Cons: No choice of menu other than full English or beans on toast or egg on toast. All other places we've visited have given options like kippers etc. Toilet seat was light plastic and kept moving. Bottom edges of shower black and needed cleaning.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I couldn’t find any faults with the hotel, the hosts upgraded us as soon as we arrived free of charge because they had a quiet weekend, thank you so much! Our room was decorated lovely, the bathroom was modern and clean and the bath was so relaxing! We had a great view over the sea. The breakfast was lovely, I’m very fussy but even I was satisfied, the vege sausages were great (not your usual mushed vegetables made into a sausage shape). The hosts were so welcoming and friendly and they couldn’t do enough for you! I was sceptical about the location as the hotel was on a hill but the walk to and from the sea front was quicker and easier than I imagined. Overall what a wonderful stay at Cairn house!
