We enjoyed our night at this hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful. Resturant very good. Note that not all facilities ie. bistro and bar are open all year.
It has a swimming pool which could be nice in hot weather Bathroom could have been cleaner, service in restaurant was poor. No comfortable chairs in bedroom.
Very central. Rom was a good size. Nothing
lovely location in a pretty town, kind staff, professional
Very riendly staff and good, comfortable, quiet rooms. We recommend.
Reception did not open until 730
Location Food was poor compared with previous years - new chef?
The restaurant is very good. The rooms are somewhat dated.
On site parking - on site restaurant - convenient for stop-over en route back to UK - quiet room with no traffic noise - pleasant town. Slightly run down - especially bedroom. Short of staff (though it must be said that they were always polite, worked very hard and tried thier best to keep up) Plastic flowers on the dining room tables.
The location and the staff The bed was old, lumpy and very uncofrtable.
Professional staff, friendly, welcoming and accommadating. Especially appreciated the straight forward carte menu. Would go again. Although comfortable the bathroom could be updated.
Friendly welcome, excellent cuisine, beautiful garden, swimming pool and quiet setting No
staff are very helpful and along with the style of the hotel provides a unique ambience for a stay. We were very disappointed with the cost of food drink and wine etc Some years ago we had an excellent stay at the hotel and enjoyed an excellent table d'hote menu. Having stayed at some excellent hotels in the Sawday's guide on our 10 day trip around France the Hotel now we feel is not providing as good value as it once was. We spoke to fellow guests who felt the same, consequently we dined away from the hotel after our first night on all inclusive menus of 30 - 40 euros of excellent quality and with good wines from 18 euros upwards.
Like the garden and the hotel staffs were great, very helpful and friendly. No fridge in the room, the street from the main road is not easily recognizable.
I expected a 4 star hotel, but la Tonnellerie cannot be classified as such. Maximum a 3 star, and even then the bathroom needs a thorough renovation. The quality of the food in the restaurant was absolutely not up to standard. Hardly any choice on the menu card, and the prices were far too steep for food that was pre-cooked, without any imagination. Fortunately we ate the rest of our journey in far better restaurants and for much lower prices.
Great quiet setting, and outstanding interest by staff Had to go outside for dinner
Very friendly and helpful staff and management, excellent food, comfortable rooms and charming atmosphere.
excellent staff and very helpfull.
we have stayed there before and like it very much it is a great shame that they have closed there restaurant
Very pretty, individual and interesting, with lots of character. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful, also the owner. The food was excellent and the courtyard garden was a lovely sunny spot to have a drink/snack. Just a pity the weather wasn't good enough for the pool to be open. Only one thing - our room had an unpleasant smell of stale smoke, although the room our children stayed in was fine.
Outdoor pool,if small was nice. Luckily the hotel was not busy. The attached Spa was not included, despite the feeling that it was from the website. Cottage rooms are not really for 4 people, but 1 night was fine. Too much noise caused by tiled floor!
Nice setup and facilities. Bathroom moldy.
The food was excellent in restaurant, views across golf course, bedrooms and price of overnight stay. The slow service in the restaurant.
We felt that it met our needs as a pure stop-over location. It was handy for the autoroute, had a pool and dining facilities.
The environment and the staff politeness. Not to get my room at my arrival time, 1 p.m, even if it was precised on the booking receipt.
easilly accessible location, staff OK food very common and restricted breakfast offer (few over cooked pastries and pre-packed cheese - pretty disappointing). open wine of very poor quality. very uncomfortable mattress.
The children enjoyed the golf facilities
We stayed here in a cottage for one night with a toddler as a stop from London to Montpellier. It was great to be able to put the toddler to bed upstairs and then cook ourselves dinner downstairs without disturbing her. The room was clean. The swimming pool was clean and warm for a post-breakfast dip in the morning before another day in the car.
Reception staff was helpful; we got a cottage at a better location than the one we first got (close to parking and road) when we asked for it. Cleanliness could be better, cottage equipped only basically.
Cottage was a good size for a family of 4
Very nice old world appeal-we took photo's of the distintive hallway and staircase.
The incredible sense of history of the place as a former abbey, our room was large and beautifully decorated with antiques. It felt like we were staying in a museum. There was no elevator and the stairs were very worn down. Of course they were the original stairs and had been used over the centuries but they were also dangerous in spots. This issue could be delat with by installing a small elevator just to get the baggage up and down and a sign asking guests to watch their step.
Location in the town of Beaugency, great for an evening walk. Hotel was unusual which the children liked. Rooms could do with refurbishment. Rooms setting could be a little spooky for younger children.
Wonderful hotel. Just stunning. Beautiful rooms. Lovely atmosphere. Lovely staff. Two beautiful lounge rooms and a bar. The breakfast room was beautiful. I took photos of every room! Breakfast (inclues champagne!) was well worth the price. Lovely fresh breads and cheeses. They also served hot food. The hike up the grand staircase with luggage was a small price to pay. Would definitely stay here again.
Hotel in a historic environment, in the hart of the Loire region A hotel with a lot of potentiel that can be a very charming hotel. At this moment it needs a freshing up ( especially the outside : garden, painting, main entrance,...). Once inside it is ok although the bathroom is also rather old. Personnaly I did not have any problem, but the reception staff only knows the french language.
The abbaye itself is beautiful and the ambience is very nice; it has an interesting history. The staff is indifferent. The breakfast is overpriced, but it is very difficult to find anything else in the neighborhood.
Very unusual, very interesting experience. It has a different kid of charm and character that you don't find in normal hotel, even compared to another Chateau.
Fantastic hotel in great setting. Rooms are beautiful. You could just imagine monks living there at one time. The staff were awful. Miserable and unhelpful. Did not listen to any complaints.
Old interesting place Beds are a bit soggy
Nicley situated on the River Loire, lovely medieval feel to the area
The room was really nice and the people very friendly. We were advised to go to a restaurant in the village only to find it was closed every Monday which was the day we were there. Having said that we would happily return if in the area.
We had a gorgeous room in this B&B and the couple who owned it were fantastic - very helpful and genuinely nice people.
Our room was very comfortable and clean. The owner was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for places to visit and recommendations for places to eat. It was a great base to explore the many chateaux of the region. A very enjoyable few days stay. We would certainly return if we were in this region again.
Lovely bathroom. Good restaurant - fairly priced. Travelling with our dog and they were very accommodating. Room was up in the hotel attic which made it seem rather small. Toilet was very small - stuck in the eaves and in need to redecoration (hole in the wall). Asked to change room - happy to pay extra to upgrade - but they were full.
Very nice dinner at the restaurant; good value, quality Rooms were simple, not well equipped by today's standards.
On arrival, we were told we could not dine in the castle because a wedding was taking place. The hotel bar has several drinks listed on their menu that were no longer available. Finally, the rooms had only baths with no shower except for a hand-held one for which no shower rail was available.
Friendly helpful staff. Superb evening meal. Good parking.
Excellent location on the way South, with a good restaurant
Attractive building with interesting furnishings and in a spectacular location. The food was very good and the staff attentive. There were very few staff on duty and we needed to find someone to serve a drink before dinner.
The setting in the woods and the hospitality from the pesonnel.
Beautiful Hotel.Fabulous setting. Food was expensive and is supposed to be gastronomic, it wasn't. Service was poor. Near main road so get rooms at back of hotel.
This is a quaint village hotel - rather drab from the outside, but has a charming small garden at the back where we ate a delicious evening meal. The chef uses herbs and spices from the garden and the food had a very interesting twist. A family run hotel, and we felt very relaxed and welcome there with our own two children. Our quadruple bedroom was fine - with a lovely, decadent marble shower room, and everything was clean. The only minor downside was that our (very nice) room overlooked the main village road - which was actually quite busy from early on in the morning. A number of lorries use this route and thundered past the bedroom, making it noisy.
Friendly, helpful welcome in fluent English. An excellent nearby restaurant was recommended for dinner. Very easy access to the town. Comfortable room and a good breakfast. No
Breakfast and the dining room were superb;location excellent but bedroom facilities coud have been better.
The location was superb, the hotel had everything required for an overnight stay although I must say the bathroom definately needed an update. Just the bathroom !
Location was good The bathrooms were poor and looked like they had been forced into already small rooms
Hotel manager was excellent - helpful and kind.
The manager suggested we could park our 5 bicycles in the yard which was secure. The hotel is in a mess.Rooms are basic and small.
Very quiet, pleasant outlook to garden, very good breakfast, convenient for autoroute
Although we booked a triple room we were given a clean newly renovated family room on ground floor with access to lovely walled garden. Breakfast buffet included home-made yoghurt & croissants and fresh fruit. Family run hotel - owners helpful Close proximity to nuclear power plant. Hotel is on busy national route, although we did not hear traffic in garden courtyard. Parking only for 2 vehicles. Automatic toilet light that switches off after about a minute of "no movement" - not suitable for a family room - could scare younger children if they are suddenly in total darkness.
Clen, curtyard Only one waiter in restauran and bar
Lovely garden and situation of hotel. No meals available on Sunday evenings - not notified of this when booking - also no reception after 4pm on the Sunday for our arrival. We were emailed a door code but this was after we had leave uk and no longer had access to email. Fortunately we phoned before 4pm and received a door code. No drinks of any kind available on our arrival - not even a kettle in the room. No bar or restaurant facilities until morning - with 2 small children eating out in the evening was far less convebnient and I would not habve booked for a Sunday night stay if I had been informed of the closed restaurant.
Quiet room at back overlooking enclosed pretty garden. Garden and restaurant safe for children Free parking nearby Room a bit small
The garden has a small pond with fishes, which is not fenced. So it's unsafe to let small children play in this garden unattended.
Beaugency is small enough to drive in and out of easily and makes a good overnight stop or base for the Loire valley. Hotel has lovely garden and serves good food on terrace. Meal service a bit slow and teething problems with new bathroom fittings, but staff responded quickly to put things right.
Absolutely nothing I have lived in Europe for 3 years and this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Bathroom was very moldy as were parts of the room. Door locks were flimsy - another guest entered our room by mistake in the middle of the night. Room was stuffy and there were no windows to open - only the door opened. Hotel Restaurant was horrible - service and food.
The room was very clean and comfortable. It took ages to get any hot water for the shower.
