Next escape: Saint Lucia

Get comfortable and picture yourself hiking, exploring rainforests, relaxing on the beach and snorkeling in a volcanic paradise. That’s what Saint Lucia is all about.

Since we’re all at home right now (and the only tan we’re getting is through the kitchen window), we figured the least we could do is help you imagine your next beach escape. For your next escape, we’ll be “diving” into the clear blue waters of this Caribbean island.

1. It’s home to the world’s only drive-in volcano.

Yep, you read that right. You can rent a car, drive on up to the sulfur springs and cover yourself in volcanic mud. (Trust us, after this, you’ll never look at a drive-thru the same way.) In the meantime, if you’re feeling ambitious, DIY your way to an in-home mud bath and imagine you’re in Saint Lucia.

2. The mountains make for phenomenal hiking.

When it’s time to travel again, we’ll all definitely be ready to spend some time outside. An incredible (and challenging) option is Gros Piton Trail, with some serious climbing but incredible views that make it all worth it. Plus, you’re in a tropical rainforest, so you’ll be surrounded by wildlife and lush foliage along the way.

3. The views are even better underwater.

If you miss snorkeling (or even scuba diving), you’ll love it here. There’s an abundance of reefs, shipwrecks and snorkeling locations that’ll make you wish you lived here full time. We like Anse Chastanet Beach, which features a diverse reef that you can easily access from shore.

4. Saint Lucia’s beaches are unmatched.

But for a lively beach scene with plentiful restaurants and bars, you’ll want to head to Reduit Beach on Rodney Bay.

5. Get ready to eat.

And last but not least, who doesn’t like food? The local cuisine is a tasty mix of French, Indian, African and British fare that is sure to rival your current “local” cuisine de kitchen. Callaloo soup is a must-try. Prep for your future Saint Lucia adventure by making this local favorite at home.
