Your trip across the South Texas Plains will take you to San Antonio, Goliad, Laredo and McAllen. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover so hop in your car and start exploring!

Day 1: Exploring San Antonio

Your first stop in the South Texas Plains will be San Antonio. With nature escapes, boat tours and delicious meals, you won’t want your time here to end!

The Alamo

A trip to the South Texas Plains isn’t complete without a visit to The Alamo. The area pays homage to the Battle of the Alamo in 1836 allowing visitors to stroll around, learn the history and view relics from the past.

Government Canyon State Natural Area

Located on the north side of San Antonio, this expansive 12,000-acre area offers the perfect nature refuge. With over 40 miles of trails and a playscape for kids, you can easily spend the entire day roaming the area.

Japanese Tea Garden

The once-abandoned limestone rock quarry has now been transformed into peaceful, serene gardens. With free admission and pets allowed, there is no reason to pass up this relaxing, mindful stop!

La Gloria Pearl

With four locations in San Antonio alone, La Gloria is inspired by sharing authentic Mexican street food with locals across the city. The Grayson Street location has outdoor seating with riverside views, making for the perfect dining experience.

GO RIO San Antonio River Cruises

Tour the backwaters of San Antonino on boats painted in vibrant colors that pay homage to Mexican folk art. Friendly and entertaining guides will highlight interesting points of interest along the ride making for an educational and entertaining experience!

Day 2: Relaxing in Goliad and Rockport

As you continue your journey through the South Texas Plains, stop in Goliad and Rockport to enjoy local eateries, learn some history and stroll around amongst nature.

As you venture into Rockport, stop by Goose Island State Park to take in the views along St. Charles and Aransas bays. While there, you need to visit the Big Tree – one of the largest live oak trees in the entire country!

Day 3: Taking in Laredo

As you arrive and make yourself at home in Laredo, be sure to take in the Mexican influence in the area as you admire the stunning architecture, local shops and Mexican-inspired cuisine.

If you’re traveling with kids, the Imaginarium of South Texas is definitely worth the stop. With a range of interactive and hands-on experiences, kids of all ages will enjoy spending the afternoon here.

El Capataz

San Agustín Plaza

The San Agustin Cathedral sits at the center of the plaza creating a stunning backdrop for the area. As you explore the local shops and restaurants, you’ll be charmed by the Mexican influence on the area.

Day 4: Discovering McAllen

Your final stop across the South Texas Plains will be in McAllen. While here, you’ll get to learn more about Texas’ famous history, enjoy refined meals and escape in nature.
