The flight was supposed to depart at 8:50 pm. We had two announcements that the flight was delayed, but besides that, no information was given. I had to ask TSA officials what the problem was, because no updates were being given. In fact, the gate agents disappeared for over an hour at one point. The airport restaurants closed before our flight departed, so we were starving. It was also freezing in the airport. We left more than two hours later. This was a horrible experience.
Curaçao airport is a mess. Understaffed, overcapacity. We had to stand in line for 3:30 hours, in 2 lines; 1. Immigration, 2. Curaçao airport tax, which was not included. Both lines were understaffed, during busy days. The airport itself is way over capacity. Once you reach the gates, there's was no place to sit and rest. Mind you, I only had carry-on luggage.
For a 30 minute return flight, it was a complete hassle.
Old planes, which actually had lots of leg room! The Inselair baggage handler in the Customs Hall (lost and found) was awesome, helpful and friendly!
Multiple flight CANCELATIONS and multiple flight CHANGES! We had one cancellation and two changes to our flight from MIA to Bonaire. One of the itinerary was 26 hours in duration to get to a destination that was originally 5 hours duration. Returning there was one change, one cancellation and a 9+hour delay for he final flight. We opted to fly back on American because we would all miss connections and have costly hotel stays, change fees, etc. Now we are working with Insel to get a refund on our return flight. All that being said, Insel would not help anyone with rescheduling, sent us to multiple desks to get a refund and after the fourth desk which was Customer Service we were told only Corporate could issue a refund and we had to do it in writing. Further, some folks were given food vouchers, one gal was lucky enough to get a hotel voucher for a missed connection in MIA, others got nothing! We did get food vouchers, but no hotel vouchers for a night in MIA due to the 9+ hour delay.....we were told the reason for the delay was "the plane is not here until tonight". Really? We were also told our original flight was canceled 3 months prior, yet no one notified usor any of he othere passengers. Insel could have avoided all thsee issues if they actually sent a notification.......
