Cons: "A humiliating flight experience. Even though we paid for seating on the plane, we also paid for luggage. We arrived with 2 standard trolleys and before boarding the plane they forced us to send them. It did not help that I explained that in the suitcases there were things we needed for flying, valuables, and fragile objects. The crew member was rude and forced us to pull out our belongings: a laptop, a professional camera with a big lens, two books, two porcelain items we bought and we were afraid to send in the big suitcase, two bottles of drinks and two sandwiches. Passports and wallets. I begged the crewman to let me go with at least one suitcase, but he replied rudely that he did not care !!! There was a lot of room on the plane, in the cells. The crew agreed with me. They tried to help and brought me an orange garbage bag so I could put all my belongings in it ... really humiliating !!!"

While there were other options available, easyJet slightly undercut the competition to sell a ticket for a seat which they never indicated was standby. Since my trip was only for the day, taking the next flight half a day later wasn't a great option. I attempted to check in but was presented with an unhelpful error and then told me the situation at the airport checkin. Inside Luton terminal, there is no easyJet representative to speak with past the security checkpoint until you arrive at the front of the line for your flight boarding. The suspense and lack of service was unnerving. Some passengers might appreciate a small compensation for the inconvenience of taking the next flight. If you absolutely need to be somewhere, don't buy a last minute ticket on easyJet. They don't tell you if you're buying a real ticket or just a standby spot."

Cons: "On the return trip from London to Munich, I was fine with not knowing gate until 40 minutes before departure time, but then we entered a queue, were told the flight was delayed 9 minutes and then herded into a holding pen for over 30 minutes - possibly 45. I had a heavy backpack and did not know how much time I would be in that situation crowded by people. A plane arrived, disembarked, there was more time, and people were then let on from the front and back of the plane, with no direction which created chaos in the boarding process. The lack of communication and "herding" will significantly reduce the chance of me flying EasyJet in the future."

When I flew with them just 4 days earlier FROM Tel Aviv, I was allowed to board with both a carry on and a hand bag, as I usually do with other international carriers and flights. With the return flight, however, you needed to pay for a service called "speedy board" to allow it. So, at the gate, they've told everyone to squeeze all their belongings into a single carry-on item, regardless of the weight and volume. They wouldn't even allow me to carry my DSLR camera separately, even though international flight regulations regard photography equipment as a separate item you're allowed to board with. After this craziness, all passengers were cramped in a hall between the terminal gate and the boarding gate. We waited there for an hour, and it was hot, humid and dense, with no chairs. Only 5-10 minutes before the scheduled departure, they started boarding passengers on the plane, what caused a 50 minutes delay in the take-off. Bottom line: Poor boarding conditions and vague baggage policy."

The boarding gates did not have facilities for handicapped people on wheelchairs, or people with children in pushchairs, who had to carry them down through all the stairs to the boarding gate and then wait. They should be told in advance of those limitations and not allowed to take the pushchairs on the plane, I think."

They told me that I was slowed one checked baggage and one cabin baggage that would be charged about €40 if it was over 30 kilos (which it was not). At the airport wizz air said that I had chosen online booking (which I had not) and therefore I had to pay a €30 fee. Also they said I had no checked baggage allowance and was charged an additional €150 !!!!"

Website is awful to attempt to online check in. Crazy that they charge for check in at the airport if you cannot get their site to work. Customer service phone call also costs a quid a minute. It's almost as if they are proud that they screw you if you encounter any difficulty or you've made a mistake in the complicated boarding pass emailing procedure."

Cons: "The check in process is absurd. I did not have a chance to check in on my phone beforehand, so I waited in line to check in at the desk. At my turn, the woman behind the desk was annoyed with me for not checking in and told me I had to go speak with another office (though she did not clarify why) and then come back to her. The airport was small, so lines for check in, security, this other office, and those seeking food were all merged into one large group. This second office didn’t open for another 40 minutes so I was thankful I’d arrived early. Standing in line, those around me all figured out why we were there: this was the line to pay extra fees. Apparently if one doesn’t check in beforehand, there is a fee. Ok, I had a few euros left. Nope, it was €68.20 to check in at the airport desk. I took my receipt and went back to the first line, she printed me a boarding pass and I was able to get through security. The fee to check in at airport was more than the cost of my ticket."

We had to wait to get to the airport, then they said we were too late (we were 90 minutes early). They raped us with 110 pound fee, which was more then we paid for the tickets. Then because we were “late” by their definition they wouldn’t let us take our carry on into the cabin. They forced us to check it. Then on the plane they wanted to charge for a diet drink. We are usually pretty laid back but by this time we were both pretty upset. Obviously."

We were kept standing until 19.35 (when the flight was scheduled to depart) and then the door was opened, just for us to sit on the staircase waiting to be admitted into the plane for another 20 minutes. I understand delays and unforeseen events, but no rep had the courtesy of telling us why we had been kept waiting this way, on the contrary we were told to move further down the stairs so we can make more room, resulting in being crammed one next to each other. Eventually at around 8 pm we were finally allowed to get on the plane. Not a cool experience, especially when Luton is 2hrs away from London so the passengers had already spent at least 3-4 hours on the road to get to the airport."

The next surprise came when I tried to check-in early while on vacation, for my flight to Athens. Apparently another $50 if we didn't check-in early (before the airport). My computer wasn't working on the website for some reason, so I was stressed. Fortunately able to check-in using my husband's computer. But then I was stressed because we couldn't print-out the tickets and I thought that they would charge us another arm-and-leg. They didn't, but the poor couple next to us in line had to pay the $50 extra per person for not checking in early - Rediculous! 3. There were about 5 long lines to go thru for check-in, basically showing/reshowing passports...it took forever! And so crowded. Rediculous! I will NEVER fly RyanAir"

Cons: "Our flight ended up almost 3 hours late which caused us to miss our flight home. When we asked for assistance and explained our situation they simply said there was nothing they could do. She even jokingly shared advice on a place to eat since we were probably not going to make it home that day. This delay cost us another night in a hotel and a couple thousand for tickets on another flight the following day. When we complained to the service desk at the airport they offered no help, we actually had to go to airport information to find out how to file a complaint. I highly recommend you choose another airline."
Cons: "I tried to do the check in on my phone and it showed that i did it. But when I got to airport I found out I did not do correctly and needed to pay 50 euro extra per ticket. It was confusing and I had not been prepare to use internet too much on my vacation abroad. This made it very confusing and difficult to try and do emailing on my old phone. And Not something any of the other flight bookings I made required. Or had such a high charge for not doing. Why isn't just buying ticket enough? Why did I need to do an added checkin, with such a high cost. And the people at airport were not understanding or helpful at all. What a hassle and pain to spend same amount as ticket itself practically."

Poor service at the terminal, with unfriendly staff, no proper instruction about what to expect in terms of all the hidden fees for bags and other items, and an unorganized boarding process. The plane itself was clean, but very cramped, and the process of forcing random seating is just totally meaningless. The flight is already so overbooked that there is no chance any seats would be left unfilled, yet you split up couples, families and friends by forcing them to pay for assigned seats. Very poor customer service. There are many who say the money saved is not worth the hassle if you are not flying alone, and I agree with that. The one good thing I can say is that there were no problems with the baggage handling, but again, this is to be expected, not applauded. Poor quality service, Ryanair, as evident by the fact that your own employees were voicing their complaints to several passengers about the company. This should really be improved, but given that they are not under any significant competition, and people need a way to get to the islands, it is unlikely this will happen. I hope that my negative review, as many others, will force the management to make necessary changes to improve the service provided."

Cons: "The boarding process is ridiculous. First they force you to check-in online. We had a very spotty internet connection on Santorini (on an island - shocker!) so it took me almost an hour to get the app to finally let me check-in. Then they forced us to print out our boarding passes (they wouldn't allow electronic boarding passes for non-eu members). Unfortunately our small villa didn't have a working printer. So...we were charged $18 per person just to print out the freaking boarding passes. Are you kidding me??? Absolutely asinine. Then we had to go through a ridiculous line to drop our bags, another ridiculous line to get our passports checked (and this was a domestic flight), then we had to sit on the floor because the waiting area ran out of seats, then forced to stand outside in the heat for another 10-15 minutes waiting on the bus. Uggh. One of the worst experiences I've had flying (and I've been to 46 countries)..."

Cons: "I understand this is a budget airline; however, they trap you with non-stated fees. I received an email letting me know that if I did not check in online in advance, we would have to pay €50 each to check in at the airport. So I checked in online for my entire group in advance and when we arrived, we were told we had to pay €18.60 each to print our boarding passes because the airport wifi was not strong enough to refresh and pull up our online passes. I wouldn't even be able to change the outcome in the future because there was no printer available at our rental house and apparently only one printer for the airline. This is just completely outrageous, especially for a 30 minute flight. Avoid this airline at all costs."

Cons: "The actual airport in Santorini is a zoo and everything takes far longer than it should. There are countless lines to wait in and huge inefficiencies in the way they operate. This causes frustration but Ryan Air only added to that tenfold. They nickel and dime their customers for everything including charging 62 Euro for in person check in. They then charge for overweight and oversized bags but these are based on their unorthodox weight and size restrictions. The worst part of all of this is that after going through 3 lines, you then find out your bag is too big and are forced to go back to the gate agent to start the process over. The flight left late because of these delays. This airline is a joke and I would not recommend flying with them to my worst enemy!"

So our original cost of the 2 tickets was a reasonable combined 110 euros, but then they hit us with an additional 180 euros for suitcases and boarding tickets. Felt totaled screwed over"

Cons: "The Greek ATC strike cancelled all flights for 2 days but my flight on Monday had not yet been cancelled although my flight out of Athens on American was cancelled and replaced with a much earlier flight so Monday on Ryanair would not work for me. There was no way on earth that I could get in touch with any human or even online Chat (no one available - ever). The website would not let me make a change - not even to reduce my luggage from 1 bag to zero. No refund because they show me as having flown on the flight! Tried faxing headquarters and no response. Wow what a total rip-off!!!"

Cons: "This airline sent an email indicating that security at the Santorini airport would take 2.5 hours when in reality it was Ryan Air's inefficiency that took that long. I've never had a boarding process take so long, be so inefficient, and the crew be so lacking in customer service. They also were on the PA for almost the entire 50 minute flight trying to sell products which was irritating at best on an 0825 flight. Fly another airline out of Santorini...Ryan air was terrible and the hidden costs for check in and bagggage are ridiculous."

Cons: "Check-in desk in Athens airport opened late, and I was forced to pay the luggage charge (pre-paid during on-line booking of flight) a second time. The boarding process at the gate was chaotic and unprofessional. My seat in the plane was cramped and uncomfortable. We were never offered any refreshments, but the cabin crew had time to hawk beauty products and raffle tickets for charity then stand around for the rest of the flight chatting, sharing pictures from their friends, etc. As I stated in my previous post about the outgoing (ATH to RHO) leg of this trip, I will never deal with RyanAir again."

Cons: "I booked my ticket while on vacation in Greece, 3-days prior to departure. Upon booking, I was informed that I should print my boarding pass upon arrival at JMK. When I arrived at JMK, there were no Ryan Air self Serv kiosks so I had to go to the check in counter. After awaiting in line, the staff was very rude in telling me that I needed to go to another terminal and pay SkyServ 18,6€ to print a paper boarding pass. Then, they gave me a receipt at SkyServ and I had to stand in line again and deal with rude staff again to pick up my paper boarding pass. The fuel per passenger cost less for the short JMK to ATH flight than the cost of printing my paper boarding pass. Should I start packing a printer in my luggage?"

Cons: "We arrive to the Santorini Airport at 6 a.m. for a 8:10 a.m. flight. The first issue that we experienced was a charge for checked bags over 20 kilograms, the initially fee is 43 euros with an additional fee for each kilogram above 20 you are required to pay 9 euro. After shuffling our bag around, we paid the 43 euro. Although we had electronic tickets, they tried to make us to print the tickets for 18 euro. After we worked through that, we proceeded to our "gate." Shortly before our flight, they delayed it in 10 minutes increments, then 20 minute increments until the departure time was rescheduled for 10 AM. Once 10 AM arrived, the flight was delayed again from 10 AM to 5 PM. At that time, I left security to speak to a representative of Ryanair and she informed me that she GUARANTEED the flight would depart at 5 PM. I proceeded to ask her that if it did not, if she could immediately provide me a refund so that we could take the 7:15 PM ferry to Athens for our departure flight to the United States. She agreed she would. As the departure time approached for our 5 PM flight they once again delayed. We immediately went to receive our refund and she informed is that because it was not canceled, she could not provide a refund, which was not what she had previously told me. We then decided to take a cab to the port and purchase tickets for the ferry. Shortly after we left, we were told the flight was delayed time and time again until at least 1:45 AM. I'm not sure if the flight ever went out or if it was ultimately canceled. I would never recommend flying Ryanair. The only positive after 12 hours in the overcrowded, rundown, Santorini airport, a 20 Euro cab ride to the port, and 5 hours on an extremely turbulent ferry boat, Ryan air did refund our ticket and baggage fees. They did not refund us for any other expenses. Avoid them at all cost."
