Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (and other international ports of arrival) have put in place additional measures to screen passengers arriving, departing or transiting through Ethiopia. Screening may include temperature measurements, completing a health screening questionnaire and answering questions from health officials. This will include checks on recent travel to affected areas and accommodation details for self-isolation. Travelers will also be tested again prior to leaving the airport.
Travelers with a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result are subject to a mandatory 7-day self-isolation at their home and also required to give sample upon arrival.
Travelers who tests positive for the virus but displays only mild symptoms will be required to remain in self-isolation for a further 14 days (where possible). They may be tested again prior to the end of self-isolation. If they cannot self-isolate they will need to stay at a government designated isolation center until they have recovered and tested negative with follow up tests. Those with more serious symptoms may be taken to a government designated isolation facility or hospital for treatment.
Travelers without a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result are subject to a mandatory 14-day self-isolation. The first 7 days will be at a government-designated facility at their own expense and the remaining 7 days at home.
Travelers with an onward ticket to another destination may transit in Ethiopian airports, as long as the transit time is under 72 hours. Travelers transiting for 8 hours or less can remain in the departure lounge of the airport. For transits over 8 hours, you will be taken to a designated transit hotel for the duration of your stay. Transit travelers are subject to medical screening.

Shuttle service could have been mentioned. The area of the airport I would need to get to in Chicago was not known. Although thr flight to Chicago was by far not full Iwas denied my request to take my roll on on the flight. It fits under seat. I am 70 and had to run across the airport."

Cons: "It was SO hot on plane, I was miserable the whole flight. It started out with a delay on the tarmac due to the air conditioning not working. We had to wait for maintenance to fix that. That wasn’t a big deal to me. We didn’t have a connecting flight to catch, so we were understanding....things happen. The problem for me began when HOT air was blowing on my legs the WHOLE flight. I was miserable! They only had pizza for purchase which did NOT sound appetizing in that heat. It was a terribly long flight and I was so happy to land and get off!!"

Cons: "We we're delayed at customs and missed our flight. We were told we were re-booked on a flight, so we ran across the airport, with two small children, to make that flight only to be told that weren't actually re-booked and needed to go standby. We then waited in line at customer service for two hours to be informed that United won't pay for a hotel. The customer service rep. did offer that if we wanted to take our kids across the airport, now at 11:30 at night, we could look for a United Supervisor in Terminal E, and if we were lucky enough to find one, they might override the policy and cover the hotel. Really! I understand that United doesn't have control over customs, but United did book an international flight with just over an hour layover, knowing that any slowdown in customs means missed flights. That's fine. The problem I have is when it happened, United's Customer Service model was to provide misinformation, incredible slow service, and what seemed like a complete lack of interest by United employees to do anything to make the situation better. There were no supervisors at the service counter, only 1 representative for an hour or so, and when the other representatives showed up, they were discussing going on break and going home. All with a very long line of people stuck in the airport waiting to get some help. I could accept this as an isolated instance, but since booking this trip, I have been getting the same level of service over the phone while trying to submit a refund request for my son who did not join us on the trip. United's 24 hour refund policy has taken 6 weeks and many hours online and on the phone and I still have no idea what the status of that request is, and apparently neither does anybody at United. The interaction I have had with your employees have been friendly and courteous, but extremely time consuming, with a lot of incorrect information and no resolution. Very mediocre at best."

You would think their customer service efforts would be stronger right now given everything that has happened recently but I guess not..."

It was not a service dog in the sense that it was all over the place--on my feet and in the aisle where it tripped a stewardess more than once and she told him it couldn't be in the aisle. So it pushed over to my seat because the guy was just to big to share his legroom. It shredded napkins the man dropped which a trained dog would not do. it bounced his tray table up causing him to drop his two vodkas. I had to have the stewardess tell him to move his arm and body out of my seat so I could stow my tray for landing. When waiting for my ride outside the dog was off lease and ran into the pickup lanes where the man had to chase him down. A true service dog would never behave like that."
