Austria has opened its borders to travelers arriving from the Schengen Area, the UK, or from Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican. However, travel from outside of the EEA remains restricted for travelers who are not nationals of an EU/Schengen/ country or the UK, and flights remain suspended from certain areas.
Austrian nationals, permanent residents, D-visa holders, and EEA nationals and their immediate family members may still enter Austria. Diplomats, humanitarian aid workers, people traveling on business, healthcare professionals, and members of emergency/rescue/ambulance crews may also enter the country, and travelers with an immediate connecting flight may transit through the country.
For travelers who may enter the country, the Austrian government has created a list of areas which it considers to be at elevated risk for COVID-19. Anyone traveling to Austria from one of these areas in the last 10 days must be able to present at the border a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 test result issued within 72 hours prior to arrival. Without this document, entry will be refused for anyone without a valid Austrian residence permit.
Austrian residents without a valid medical certificate may enter the country, but will be required to self-isolate for 10 days. Coronavirus tests, which provide the medical certificate, are available for €120 per test on arrival at Vienna and Salzburg airports for travelers with a valid Austrian residence permit. Travelers can present a negative test result to shorten the self-isolation period.
Travelers transiting through Austria without medical certificate are permitted if they can show proof that they are just transiting.
There are currently 57,580 active cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in AT and 3,184 deaths as of Dec 1 2020

Pros: "The flight time was short"
Cons: "Cabin crew seemed cold and distracted I was done of the last to board because I came off a connecting flight. And I was made to check my carry-on at the gate, however when I boarded the plane I saw plenty of overhead room. The carry-on bag that I had to check was scoffed."
Pros: "The entertainment can stream a large library of movies to your device"
Cons: "Seats only marginally comfortable, weather delays caused us to leave very late (although I made my connections, many did not)."
Pros: "Staff was cool and insured a fast boarding"
Cons: "Rickety plane, lots of squeaking and other sounds. Seats are about just as terrible as the any other airline"
Pros: "Check in and boarding went very smoothly. The crew was very attentive. They came through the cabin several times with the drink cart. And after dinner was served, gave everyone a bottle of water. Good choice of movies, food was good and the light breakfast was actually very filling. Excellent croissants. Overall great flight."
Pros: "The captain was diligent to keep us informed of the flight progress."
Cons: "Another major airline’s equipment failure delaying our pushback! In spite of that, our crew delivered us to FAT on time!"
Cons: "Again, a late flight. Plane not at airport yet. Haven't boarded yet!"
Pros: "Friendly staff, comfortable seats (considering). No issues with seating which was a welcome change for me."
Pros: "That we landed."
Cons: "Stuard needs to articulate his english better. Food was awful even for a plane. Broken headphones, broken monitors. Staff with bad attitude."
Cons: "One of the stewardesses was very unpleasant as she was ha doing out drinks and snacks. When I asked her a question she was very rude."
Pros: "Good flight."
Cons: "When I arrived to get boarding passes for my family of 5, the flight was overbooked of which I had to pay an additional $241 for our seats. What a ripoff! Not happy with Kayak and will use another travel agency."
Pros: "Nice crew and ground staff. With the right credit card (United Explorer or better) boarding is a snap."
Cons: "Lack of personal space is a fact of life for air travel unless one can afford the good seats. Plus, why do I always sit behind a crying, screaming child? I know it's no fun for anyone involved and it's just part of life, but maybe next time I'll be more fortunate. Flying in economy is truly like riding in a very big Greyhound Bus! It beats driving, but not by much. I wish trains were more plentiful and affordable."
Pros: "My flight attendants on my flight were wonderful and so was the boarding crew at San Fran's airport to Las Vegas were awesome as well. The space I had on my connecting flight to vegas was awesome and the feature it had to charge devices were a nice too."
Cons: "The crew at the front desks and at the boarding area for my flight from Anchorage, AK, to the San Fran airport however, were extremely rude. The rating for the crew is a 2 because although my flight attendants were awesome, but the service given to me and to my fellow flyers by the Customer Service Agents/Reps at the front desk and the training of a newbie at the gate, when boarding at the Anchorage, Alaska, airport was terrible. They were extremely unprofessional and did not seem to care that the tones of their voices, their facial expressions, as well as their body language, showed that they lacked the manners and knowledge of compassion, respect and courtesy. Their rotten attitudes were insufficient at making the customers/guests of the airlines feel comfortable before flying. I did not appreciate being spoken to the way some of the reps did."
Pros: "Crew members are very kind and thoughtful."
Cons: "They must be notified 4-5 hours delay departs departs before arrived airport. I left at 3:30 heatherton circle, dacula. Ga. To airport. After that I got the airplane has been delayed, and my flight schedule has completely change. I don't want think about it because I'm very tired ."
Pros: "The United agent's help on Saturday morning from Savannah was excellent."
Pros: "The plane didn't crash"
Cons: "You pay for everything- including wi fi. Cheapest, saddest flights I've ever had. Never again flying United."
Pros: "The crew was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Water and drinks were offered regularly. For those who had the app there was inflight entertainment. We paid for plus size seats and had enough leg room."
Cons: "I believe that on the long flights built in entertainment screens should be standard. Most people did not have the app and many spent 8.5 hours without anything to do. Food is not offered on this long flight unless you pay for it. You must walk to the very back of the plane where the food is in warmers. I got a hamburger and it was a bit dried out. Could have been worse...just hard to handle since tomato, lettuce and condiments were on the side. A larger person sat next to me and took use of the armrest between us which made me feel like I lost 4 inches of my personal space."
Cons: "There were too many pretzels in the snack mix and not enough of the yummy orange things"
Pros: "Awesome Illy coffee and stroopwaffel cookie for my flight to Guatemala for my first medical mission trip on a snowy cold morning was a welcome snack. It was so much better than the snack mix or nut packs that you usually get."
Pros: "Fun crew"
Cons: "Tiny aisle, hard seats"
Cons: "We had to wait over two hoirs for them to het us a plane. They allowed United Staff members to dead head to Scranton amd bumped paying costomers. They flight attended stopped her speech to make a mother keep her infant quiet. The The agent at the gate continued to give false information on the delays."
Pros: "Crew were great"
Cons: "$27 for a double Jack and (1/2 a can) Coke and a beer seems excessive."
Cons: "Lots of delay, not so friendly flight attendants"
Cons: "Lost my luggage and gave me wrong information , where I missed my flight and had to wait several hours to get home"
Pros: "Wheelchair service was so helpful for my mother."
Cons: "Over an hour mechanical delay at ALB. We barely made it to our connection. Pretty tense considering I was with an elderly confused mother who would not have dealt well with a delay from Newark to Denver."
Cons: "After you get used to Jet Blue, it's tough to fly with United where there is no inflight entertainment unless you bring your own gadget. There are no in-flight snacks other than a tiny bag of mini pretzels or over-priced "snack boxes" for purchase. For short flights this is fine, but for 5 hour flights, it's a bit stingy. The biggest frustration with United is the small space. If you are a small child, great, but for adults, it's just terribly uncomfortable. Truly a "herded animal" experience."
Pros: "Fight was on time. Crew very pleasant. No complaints"
Cons: "The sits where very uncomfortable. And the snack is awful."
Pros: "On time coming & going. Friendly"
Pros: "We booked our trip on United and they were the most accommodating airlines for the deaf (3 deaf in our group of 6) by far. They made sure we were all set, came by our seats to ask if we needed anything, etc. I will definitely fly United every chance I get."
Pros: "LOVE the plane! CLEAN!! New and BEAUTIFUL!!!!"
Cons: "Sat and listened the WHOLE trip except when drinks were being served to the private lives of the flight attendants. The didn't pick up trash so everyone had to place their ice and semi full drinks in the nets when it got bumpy for the landing. I watched the flight attendants the whole time- they got paid to converse about everything- here is proof- one flight attendant was complaining that she only had 4 days of vacation and that she never gets called to work- I think I can guess why- and that she has talked to Kaitlyn- I think that was her bosses name?? But she wasn't given more hours. I wish I had ear plugs. The African American lady was so unkind and uncaring. She scollded another African American lady for coming to the back to throw away her trash. She hurt the lady's feelings and made her mad too. The folks on the plane seemed to be too much of a deflection to their personal conversations, but they were successful at ignoring everyone. We had to be careful to not spill liquid on our carry on etc and not hit the cups and such with our knees on the way out. I usually fly Southwest and want to write a letter telling them how great their service is! I apologized to the cleaning crew as the flight attendants told us to not worry about our drinks"the cleaning crew" will get it. How unprofessional to treat others that way. Stop talking! You can get A WHOLE lot done when you aren't sharing your personal life and opinions with each other!"
Cons: "Over 3-hour delay. Various text messages including one that indicated the flight was leaving 5 minutes earlier; then it was delayed again!"
Pros: "Entertainment available; happy that it was free; blanket and pillow"
Cons: "The seats are uncomfortable to sleep in so I didn't sleep at all from San Francisco to Bradley; wished my seat had somewhere to plug my phone"
Pros: "The actual flight was good. Didn't eat or drink so don't know. The less than perfect rating was because we left an hour late. Don't know how they handled folks with connecting flights but that can be a very stressful situation."
Cons: "That it was late"
Pros: "Plain pilot profecional"
Cons: "Plain to old"
Pros: "Awesome Staff, planes on time, Food was good, staff collected trash separately to recycle"
Cons: "Lost my luggage and no response, All my clothes, medicine, cosmetic in the bag. Please rush it . You guys spoiled my trip."
Cons: "There was a sick passenger on board. The crew spent 40 minutes trying to convince him to get off the plane. He refused and after 40 minutes, they left him on and we finally left the gate."
Pros: "Crew did an excellent job of taking care of a patient with a medical issue."
Cons: "Everything was good!"
Pros: "Once on the aircraft everything was just fine"
Cons: "First of all it was delayed, no big deal but once i checked in I wasn't even assigned a seat. I try to find an agent at the boarding gate and none to be found. They finally arrive 30 min before take off and then assign me a middle seat when I specifically picked my seat weeks earlier and of course was one of the last people to board barely enough time to search for a place for my bag and get to my middle seat in the back of the aircraft. Not even a sorry or any type of compensation for a terrible experience"
Pros: "The flight attendant was pleasant, and the flight and landing were smooth."
Pros: "The non stop flight was nice."
Cons: "Everything on the plane was broken, the seats, ear phones, it was an old plane, WIFI broken, so you couldn't watch a movie. The bathrooms were GROSS!"
