As the world’s leading travel search engine, we’ve dug into our more than one billion consumer flight searches to shed a light on COVID-19’s impact and the road to travel’s return. From destinations with the largest declines in year over year search to emerging signs of recovery, here’s the latest on what air travel looks like in the midst of a global pandemic.
About the data
The data below represent indexed flight search volume across KAYAK brands in the listed origin countries. The data will be updated daily to reflect week over week and year over year changes in traveler interest. For year over year comparisons by day, we compare to the same day of the week from the same week in the previous year. For example, we’d compare Tuesday, March 3, 2020 to Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
Ups and downs: the destinations travelers are searching for this holiday season
These are the destinations where travel is starting to recover compared to their 2019 levels.
Our chart shows travel trends for the holiday season by looking at flight searches from November 22, 2020 through January 6, 2021. Recovery for each destination is shown as a percentage of searches when comparing to the same period last year. For example, if there were 50 searches on November 22, 2019, and only 1 flight search on the same day in 2020, then the destination has recovered 2%.
