For travelers who love to experience the world, but want to travel more sustainably, here’s one way KAYAK can help you make conscious decisions about flying. Introducing our CO2 filter – which allows you to sort flight results by their environmental impact. Working with Atmosfair, a non-profit organization focused on CO2 mitigation and action on climate change, we allow travelers to sort their flight search by those flights with the least CO2 emissions rating.
Here’s how to find it:
After you kick off your flight search, look for our filters at the top that quickly sort your results (by length, time, price, or quality of the flight). We’ve added “Least CO2” – and once clicked, this sorts flights by their CO2 emissions.
Once selected, we’ll also show you the average amount of CO2 emitted per traveler for your route – as a way to stay informed about your impact and how the flight you select will impact your own carbon footprint.
Atmosfair helps us calculate the impact of each flight by taking into account the aircraft and its size, the number of stops along your route, which cabin class you designate, and other factors about the airline’s environmental ratings. This cocktail of information is what helps us show you the impact of your trip – as well as options to help lessen the load.
If sustainability is important to you when you travel – our new tool can help you keep tabs on your footprint, while actively providing ways to manage its impact on your own.
