The top trending 2019 March Break destinations for Canadians by province

Is it just us, or has January and February felt like the longest year? If you’re ready to get away, make this March Break one for the books. We took a deep dive into our data to find out where Canadians are heading this year, and the results run the gamut. From far-flung tropical locales to domestic city breaks, we’ve broken out the top searches destinations by province. (Sorry, Prince Edward Island, Northwest Territories and Yukon, we didn’t have enough data for you — but you can take your pick from the below hot spots or set your sights a bit off the beaten path). Wherever you choose, one thing is for certain — there’s no time like the present to plan your March Break travel

What we learned:

    • The West Coast has its sights set on Bali. Searches to this Indonesian hot spot are on the rise with Western Canadians, especially those from BC, where KAYAK searches saw a whopping 157% increase in travel searches for March Break compared with last year.
    • Las Vegas wins big with Western Canada. Perennially popular Las Vegas is popular for March Break travel, especially with those coming from Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
    • Warm weather beckons East Coasters. Two Florida cities top March Break searches by Canadians coming from the East. Folks from Newfoundland and Labrador are showing increased interest in Orlando, while those from Nova Scotia are heading to Tampa. Pro tip: The two cities are a little over an hour’s drive from one another, so search flights to both and compare prices. If you’re planning on renting a car anyway, you could save some money on the flight.
    • New flight route puts Martinique on the map. With a new flight route on Norwegian added between Montreal and the French Caribbean island of Martinique, there was a 226% increase in searches compared with last year. Unfortunately, this flight route will be cut on March 31, meaning now’s the time to take advantage of these low-cost flights. (But, good news, Air Transat and Air Canada Rouge will continue to fly the route.)

Methodology

KAYAK considered flight searches conducted on the CA KAYAK site from January 1 through February 15, 2019 for spring break travel (March 2 through April 21, 2019). To compare year over year search findings, KAYAK looked at flight searches on the CA KAYAK site between January 1 through February 15, 2018 for travel between March 3 through April 22, 2018. All searches were pulled from KAYAK’s internal database.
