When I picked a category it showed Ford Edge or equivalent. I got Nissan Kicks, which is definitely not comparable. The car was very sluggish on the hilly highways in Ecuador where I vacationed. The price was the same, though.2.0 Poor

The car was nice and exactly as we had reserved. Great customer service. Easy to get to from the airport by shuttle.Cons:
Required insurance and would not accept the prepaid insurance we bought through Kayak. You also only get 100KM per day, so extra charges can add up.10.0 Wonderful

I liked two things about Avis 1) Originally I booked car via Rentalcars.com. They had confirmed my booking and 1 day before pick up they cancelled it without even sending me email or letting me know! I chat with their support and they said: Sorry, we cannot help you. WTF?! So I had to arrange everything after arrival - at Avis counter there was very nice guy with fluent English that helped us a lot finding a good deal that would be similar to original booking. Thanks again Mr. Francisco P.! Great help! 2) Our car got some engine issue by the end of our trip in the middle of the national park. Avis call center was helpful and they brought us new (much bigger car) in several ours with no question or extra charge. So: Avis rulez - I will use it again next time Rentalcars.com sucks - never more2.0 Poor

Refused me service even though I agreed to a $5000 hold on my debit card. Had to take a 6 hour cab ride for $275. Thanks for leaving me stranded at the Quito airport at 4 AM Avis!6.4 Okay

Nothing about this experience to likeCons:
Avis does not honor rentals done through Kayak. Avis don't recognize the car size that Kayak gave me or the insurance I signed up for through Kayak. I ended up spending almost 3 times the amount that quoted through Kayak. I will never do business with neither Avis nor Kayak again. The burrito with a competitive market place is that I choices. I will do what I can to spread the word so other people don't need to experience the same8.0 Very good

Pros:
From the begging of the rental, it was a disaster. Two hours into the trip the AC went out in he car. I called their support number only to be made to wait 2 hours so they could send a guy without tools to put his hand infront of the vent and confirm that the AC did not work. Then to be told they dis not have another car to give me. When I finally arrived at Guayaquil (where they had another car for me 240 miles away) the people at the counter had left more than 10 minutes early and forced me to lose an extra day. But the best part was the way Ivan Quillupangi (fleet manager), tried blaming me for scratches on a car that were marked on the paperwork pre-rental and for three tire blow outs due to low air pressure (that was also marked on the paperwork). Not only that but questioning why I changed out the tires intead of calling, even after I advised that the tires blew in an area with no reception at 11:00pm on the side of a mountain. I liked the way that when I told them the brakes in the car were pulsating the response from them was that it was impossible because they had just changed them; however, they left the old brake rotors that were warped and caused the pulsating and lack of stopping power. I liked that once I got back to their Guayaquil office and showed them all this they said that although they can see what I am telling them, the guy on the phone 250 miles away that can't see says different that the proof of pictures, paperwork and items present. When I claimed the scratches were on the paperwork, they said that it was a "misprint" when I showed them the warpage on he brake rotors they pretended not to understand telling me the brakes had been changed. when speak My if the tires they said well you could have hit something and when I asked them to show me what exactly makes them say that or to show me on the tire or rim any impact point, they simply shrugged and said that that is what the guy from Quito (who'd never seen me or the car) said. Last but not least they expected me to provide good customer service by taking the car to and from the airport for inspections. Lastly when I got to the airport they did not have a comparable vehicle for me (7 passenger SUV) and merely had a compact, and expected me to provide a new deposit (after having given $2,400.00 on the current car). In short I was left at the airport stranded without a car. To add insult to injury Hertz ecuador has nothing to do with Hertz US. In all Inlost 4 days out of my trip dealing with their problems and spent an additional 3 days without a car, was forced to buy flights from Guayaquil to Quito and cancel parts of my trip.Cons:

Everything was horrible. Service, the quality of cars were miserable. the first car that I got broke down within 20 minutes in the middle of the highway and the replacement refused to go above 40 km/hr. The customer care giggled throughout my panic stricken phone call when the car broke down in the middle lane of a highway when cars were moving at 90km/hr. The engine started emitting smoke. The local agency officials giggled and ridiculed me, in Spanish language assuming that I do not understand anything, for being a women driver. I had to ask them to stop and remind them that I do understand the language even if I do not speak it. Then the giggling and smiling stopped. They refused to return the car before the contract was up. But I could not drive the car cause it was in such a bad condition. They have sexists employees who spent more time making fun of me than trying to solve the problem. I had to leave the car at the location without any written acknowledgement for the return and file an official complain with both Thrifty and better business bureau to get my money back including the deposit which should have been returned with the car. I finally went to Avis who gave me a car in a perfect condition which could easily be driven even in mountainous roads. One location in Quito
