I arrived just shy of midnight, so I was redirected to the Avis counter. The Avis representative was superb! He was friendly, humorous, and helpful. I paid in advance for a car seat, but there wasn’t one available upon arrival. I accepted the next best thing, a booster seat - though it’s really not nearly as safe (or possibly even legal) for my 3yo. As for the vehicle, the only one remaining was a larger SUV than I’d requested. That was a pleasant surprise - thank you! As my stay in SC went along, I realized I needed to extend my reservation. That process was so easy and pleasant. All in all, I am beyond pleased with my experience. Thank you all for having wonderful staff and vehicle options.

Pick up was great and quick! Vehicle was great except it pulled to the right, needed an alignment or something. Drop off at airport - not so good. Hard time finding someone who spoke English, long walk to the shuttle and I was with my elderly mom who needed a wheelchair, and they were in a hurry for me to remove our bags and leave the car. Totally different from the pick up

The employees at the richmond airport Budget office we're not very friendly they gave me an SUV instead of a car and SUV was a Ford not a Toyota Corolla like I asked for it was raining heavily I did not understand the car and I was not comfortable with an SUV but it was the car that they gave me and since other people were waiting in line for another car I felt I needed to just go ahead and take it I brought it back I believe the next day and said please give me a car I was afraid to drive the SUV I'm very comfortable sedans and especially Toyota brand the Ford controls were completely different from the Toyota brand and did I mention how rude the Richmond Virginia employees were at the Richmond airport unbelievable ! when I was returning the SUV the lady taking the car said what is the mileage and I said oh that's a good idea let me look at the mileage too what is that mileage? And she said oh so you're gonna do my job now huh? Excuse me? I mean was that necessary such attitudes I found not only from the budget Avis employees but just the large majority of staff in Customer Service positions were just plain rude and had such attitudes I don't know what made them so unhappy I had just met them so it wasn't my fault I just didn't understand why they were so unhappy in their jobs so leave if you hate the job there's no reason to be rude when someone has done nothing to you .

The car was returned with a full tank of gas, as confirmed by the Budget associate. However when I reviewed my emailed receipt, I noticed I was charged the refueling fee. Contacted Budget customer service, and they quickly agreed to refund the overcharge.

Pros:

I liked the roominess of the vehicle. The ability to connect my Android device to the HUD via bluetooth or USB was very helpful.

Cons:

I don't love the RAV4's Ecoboost(?) feature. It felt like the car stalled at every stoplight, and the gas pedal wasn't very responsive then would jump after pressing hard.

Rented car through kayak and had a check box for insurance. But turned out that the insurance was not through the car rental co. Not some 3rd party

Cons:

I will be careful now and add the Insurace At the company site. Don’t fall for this.

Pros:

The pickup was not at the Appleton Airport. I landed and went straight the Hertz counter and was told that I rented from Hertz half a mile down the road. They told me they could not change the rental and that I'd need to get an Uber to take me to the other Hertz location. I could however return the rental to the airport location. I won't rent from Hertz again and I will tell everyone I know about this experience.

Cons:

They could have switched the rental or at the very least given me a ride to the other location. I had to pay my Uber driver $10 for the inconvenience that Hertz caused me.

Pros:

I went to the wrong Hertz counter. I went to the one at the airport but I really had rented it from a counter about a 20 minute walk away. The woman behind the counter went way out of her way to ensure that I got to the right place comfortably. She was incredible.

Cons:

I rented the car on Saturday to be brought back on Sunday. The woman at that counter did not tell me that the office would be closed on Sunday. I did not know how to return the car and did not feel confident that I did the right thing and was worried about being charged extra.

The staff in Appleton were very helpful and friendly. I ended up there very late due to flight cancelationsa and they waited up for me.

Cons:

When I signed up for a car rental, I was led to Appleton even though I wanted to rent at Greenbay airport. Fortunately, I ended up flying into Appleton because of cancelation of Detroit to Greenbay flight. Unfortunately, ALamo wouldn't let me drop the car off at GreenBay for my return flight. for some ridiculous reason, I had to drive the car 25 miles south to Appleton and turn around and drive back to GreenBay with the same car. Otherwise the cost of my car would have gone up by 300%. this is the kind of coporate lack of common sense that makes it very inconvenient for customers. I didn't appreciate having to add 50 miles and one hour to my drive to the airport.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
