Pros:The staff at Avis was very professional, kind and friendly. The rented car was spotless and in great working order.
Cons:Their additional charge for insurance DOUBLED the cost of the rental. We rented at Alamo and the insurance was $18.00/day, and at Avis, it was $48! The car and the service at both businesses were very similar. This unexpected, additional expense left us feeling like we were taken advantage of by Avis.
Pros:Avis was clean and efficient
Cons:We got a great promotional deal on our Avis rental – we were quoted a price that was only $30 in total for seven days. Of course but we weren't told until we arrived was that there was a mandatory Insurance package that actually cost 300 US! If we tried to opt out, Avis still had to put in an HUGE hold on our credit card. None of this would've been a big problem – if we had been advised in advance.
I was disappointed to find out that I had to pay more for insurance than the daily rate. Daily rate $30, insurance $70 per day ???
Pros:Car was good, achieved its purpose.
Cons:This was my first time renting a car. I am not sure how it usually works, but it would be nice to book your all in price online during the booking process. I booked my car for about $100, got to the Avis in Puerto Vallarta, and was introduced to the insurance options you must buy. Not knowing what was the norm, I was convinced to buy some insurance, leading to an all in purchase of $350... Didn't want to take any chances down there so I did want insurance, but tripling my cost seems excessive.
The car battery died. Car was not very clean. Windshield washer was empty.
