Car was incredibly basic without even Bluetooth connectivity. However, the price I paid was very low too and the car, although basic, was of a very good standard. Helpful staff and quick service. Car spotlessly clean.

I pointed out a scratch on car and was told too small to denote on the sign out sheet and not to worry and on return Budget charged me for the scratch.

The pickup process could be easier. No indication as to where to go to find the car. Asked a lady who pointed us in the general direction. Then had to manhandle our suitcases up stairs because of no elevator or ramp. People running the rental lot were less than welcoming. Car was adequate. Ran well and it was very clean inside.

Pros:

Easy pick up and drop off

Cons:

The cars speakers were messed up, the light for the clock and stereo system didn’t work, there was no back up camera. Most of all the steel light bugged me as I couldn’t see anything on there and then on the last day the light appears! So dumb

I had a ride arranged to go pick up the car only to find out there were no cars available. Waste of time and money as well as not having a car next day for planned trip.

The rental counter at the Bakersfield airport told me they had no cars available, however, two other people in the airport came up and told me they had been told the same thing but if you sat down and made an online reservation there would miraculously be cars. I tried this and sure enough, I drove off in a car. The laziness of the customer service agents to turn away customers is astonishing. The car I received was not the model I had booked and it had not been cleaned in quite awhile. The inside windshield was so dirty it was hard to see through at night and in the rain.

Pros:

He offered me a free gas if I agreed to drive a different vehicle class from what i reserved to LAX. Thought it was a great deal.

Cons:

Turns out, he never entered that information into the system or the paperwork. I got charged $35 at LAX for gas in spite of what was promised. At the lAX Avis counter, they told me I had to deal with the Bakersfield AVIS person to get it cleared up. I called, and the Bakersfield AVIS location doesn't pick up, and the call goes to AVIS national reservation. After holding for 10 minutes, reservation says I have to talk to Customer Service. After waiting another 10 minutes, customer service says I have to contact that same Bakersfield location to have them verify what i said. When I said that the number keeps redirecting me to AVIS national, the customer service agent hung up on me.

Pros:

great price, friendly staff. the price was very affordable for a one way rental from Bakersfield to LAX. Car was clean and fresh on the inside.

Cons:

limited amount of cars. they were out of cars when we showed up 2 hours before our scheduled pick up time. Had to come back during our scheduled pick up time and the car was ready. Not their fault but would have been nice if there were a few extra cars to accommodat changing schedules of customers.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
