I've admired this hotel for many years as a passer by and finally had the opportunity to make a reversation to attend the annual Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain. I've stayed at many historic hotels over the years and they are all pretty much the same. Don't go for the comfort the bathroon was far to small and the bed was as hard as a slab of granite. The complimentary breakfast was fair but the service was horrible.
The Green Park Inn was shuttered and slated for demolition. Kind of a sad story for a hotel on many a must-stay list. A pair of brothers have purchased and restored the hotel without going overboard. Sometimes a remodel of a historic property can be so overdone, the charm is smoothed right out of the place. The hotel is well over 100 years old, so some of the doorways and floors are not quite straight, but everything is freshly updated. We were given an upgrade to a king suite with jacuzzi when our queen room was unavailable. Bed was firm, but comfortable. The hotel was packed for the Appalachian State University homecoming, but it was quiet in our room. Not all the front desk staff is very friendly, but the owner ran into us several times and was a delight.
