Pros:

Anna-Cristina was very helpful and patient even though the line was long and she was the only attendant due to COVID regulations.

Cons:

I wasn't aware that I needed to retrieve the car at Hertz at the Cagliari Airport even though I rented from Dollar (unless I missed it in the fine print somewhere, but it wasn't obvious). Another attendant would have been helpful as it was quite a long line and I waited over 30 minutes, but I understand this may have been due to COVID regulations for staffing. The check engine "(!)" yellow light came on a few days before my return, and the roadside assistance employee told me over the phone that I should explain this to an attendant upon return. I ended up returning the car 1 day early before the scheduled time, and wanted to confirm the early return/ensure that I would be charged accordingly, as well as explain the check engine light situation, but no one was there when I returned the car and I wasn't sure which number to call since I made the reservation through Dollar but it was actually via Hertz.

The car feels like a manual when youre driving and its REALLY difficult to pick up and give it gas.

Pros:

We paid the insurance beforehand, and at the airport we did not get the car. Dollar rentals were run by hertz, and the hertz employees said they cannot help us, and that the dollar policies have not been met, regarding the fact that we ha electronic credit cards (something along these lines, they were speaking mosty italian).

Unfortunately they did not make it clear that unlike other international companies you must have a PHYSICAL international driver’s license to rent the car. Additionally they have zero flexibility for arrival time despite attempting to call multiple times. Ended up not giving me a refund either after not accepting my virtual intl drivers license and physical American one

They didn't have a car for us when we got there because we arrived a few hours late due to a delayed flight. They said it was a no show so they gave the car to someone else and then tried to charge us double to get another car. And they still charged us for the one they gave away and have not refunded

Finding the pick up and drop off was a nightmare and we lost hours of time. Not clear where to catch the shuttle bus in Rome. The locations are not proper on google maps and the address provided exists near the wrong airport in Milan. We loat 1. 5 hours. Also, terrible experience with Marco in Milan, so rude. Receptionists were nice. Car was fine.
